<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
(fig. 2).
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
REVENDICATIONS

"Anti-skid device for automobiles to be mounted on the wheels of vehicles of all weights, when the roads are covered with ice and black ice."
The present invention relates to an anti-slip device for a tire, consisting in particular of projecting elements intended to be mounted on the tread surface of said tire.
The object of the invention is to provide an anti-slip device which can be placed quickly on the wheels and which satisfies the requirements of safety when driving, on a road covered with ice, sleet or snow, vehicles provided with this device. sitive.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
To this end, in the anti-slip device according to the invention, the aforementioned protruding elements are constituted by metal pegs fixed to a frame which has attachment means for its mounting on a wheel fitted with a tire, the end of the metal parts, intended to come into contact with the road, having sharp edges.
According to a particular embodiment of the object of the invention, the aforementioned cutting edges are formed by a polygonal contour of the aforesaid end of the aforementioned metal plugs.
According to a particularly advantageous embodiment of the device according to the invention, the aforementioned outline of the end of the metal parts has a triangular shape.
Other details and features of the invention will emerge from the description of an anti-skid device for a tire, given below by way of non-limiting example with reference to the accompanying drawings.
FIG. 1 represents a perspective view, with cross section of a tire mounted on the wheel and provided with a device according to the invention.
FIG. 2 is a cross section of a device according to the invention, with a protective strip.
Figure 3 is a plan view of a special washer according to the invention.
In the various figures, the same reference signs designate identical elements.
The anti-slip device according to the invention comprises projecting elements formed by bolts 1 fixed to a flexible frame described below. The heads 6 of the bolts 1 have sharp edges formed by the triangular outlines thereof. In addition, the surfaces of these heads, intended to come
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
in contact with the road, are milled and have grooves 7 further increasing the number of cutting edges of the heads 6 and creating raised parts which are lodged in the ice, this action occurring under the effect of the speed and the weight of the vehicle.
The aforementioned frame consists of flexible steel attachment bands 2. These bands are folded back after passing through the openings made in hooks 3 and their ends are held by bolts 1. (fig. 2). The bands 2 can be joined by crosses 8 (fig. 1) made up of tapes of a-
2 1 cier, which like the bands / and bolts / are preferably anti-rust. The bolts 1 pass through the ends and the crossing points of the elements forming the crosses. The device is mounted on a tire 10, after having deflated the latter at least partially. The rim of wheel 5 has a flange 4 which can either be obtained by stamping, or be attached to the rim, or even be a simple free crown which is placed against the rim.
The simplest solution is the flange provided for the construction of the wheel as shown in Figure 1, but free flanges are also satisfactory. The hooks 3 are hooked under the rim 4, and the fixing takes place automatically when the tire is re-inflated.
The bands 2 are then arranged so that their longitudinal axis is in a diametral plane of the wheel. In addition, the bolts are staggered and they are distributed so that their axes lie in three planes parallel to the axis of the wheel.
The bolts 1 are fixed to the frame, by means of nuts 11 and with the interposition of washers 12. When fixing the bolts, the grooves of the bolts, the axes of which are in each of the aforementioned planes parallel to each other, will be placed.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
while the grooves of bolts whose axes are in neighboring planes are perpendicular to each other.In addition, the grooves of bolts are made so as to end at an angle of the triangular contour and are arranged, for bolts the axes of which are in the exterior planes, substantially parallel to the axis of the wheel. The hooks have, at the place of attachment to the fastening bands 2, a rounded face to avoid any danger of breaking the steel band 2.
This rounded part can be obtained in a very simple way by making a cut in the hook and by turning the lip thus obtained; many other means are, however, possible to obtain the rounded face.
. Protective strips 13 are furthermore provided between the attachment strips 2 and the tire. These bands can be rubber, felt or any other fabric. They are fixed, for example, by riveting, to the bands 2. These bands not only prevent deterioration of the tire, but they also allow silent operation to be achieved. To complete this effect, we can also provide bands of this kind on the internal face of the bands 2, at the location where they rotate around the hooks.
The same rivets can be used to fix the protective strips then provided on either side of the strips 2. Finally, in addition to the washers 12, rubber washers can be provided which double them.
FIG. 3 represents a special washer 14 having ears 15 pierced with holes 16 for the fixing of chains or other fastening means replacing the fastening bands 2 and the braces 8.
It should be understood that the invention is in no way limited to the embodiment described above, and that many modifications can be made thereto, without departing from the scope of the present patent application. .
One could, in particular, provide, instead of the special frame described above, a frame formed by another arrangement of the constituent elements referred to in the description. We for-
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
For example, the cross-pieces 8 would be omitted, the frame being simply formed of the bands 2. It would also be possible to provide a frame formed by a continuous band placed on the rolling surface of the tire.
On the other hand, it would be possible to provide, on the contact surface of the head of the bolts, asperities formed by raised corners of the heads. Any other shape, other than triangular, may be provided for the contour of the bolt heads. The bolts could be secured by pins, thus avoiding any possibility of loosening. Instead of bolts, other forms of metal plugs such as rivets could be used.
These anchors can be made of ferrous metals or of other materials.
Separate hooks can be attached to the edges of the wheels, either by welding, riveting or bolting, in order to cooperate with the hooks 3.
