<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

The present invention relates to an improvement to gyratory crushers and, more particularly, to those of the type in which the shaft driving the grinding nut, called the pendulum shaft, is controlled by means of gears.
It is known that in order to obtain, using a gyratory crusher, substantially cubic chippings, which are those whose use is the most widespread, it is necessary to impart to the grinding wheel a very high speed of rotation. Indeed, its surface being polished like that of the stationary grinding member, when it rotates slowly, the products obtained are substantially flat, whereas if its speed is high, the disintegration force applied to the material treated is exerted suddenly in many directions and combines

with a kind of trituration which causes the materials to appear at different angles before being discharged, this treatment resulting in the products having a roughly cubic shape.
Until now, in crushers of this type, the pendulum shaft of which is controlled by means of gears, the control shaft was generally mounted in a cantilever manner, generally with an external bearing; this shaft carried at the end, inside the frame, a pinion attacking a crown whose teeth were directed upwards and which was integral with the eccentric carrying the pendulum shaft. The diameter of the crown must therefore be large enough to be able to include the hub in which this eccentric turns, hence limiting the speed of rotation.
The present invention, which makes it possible to avoid these drawbacks, relates to a gyratory crusher of this type in which the control members comprise a shaft arranged transversely in the frame and passing through the latter from one wall to the other. In a preferred embodiment, the transverse shaft passes below the lower end of the pendulum shaft and carries a pinion engaged with a toothed crown gear facing downwards and integral with the sleeve carrying the shaft. pendulum.
One of the main advantages of the device according to the invention lies in the possibility of considerably reducing the diameter of the toothed ring gear and, consequently, of obtaining a corresponding increase in its speed of rotation. On the other hand, the control shaft being carried in two bearings better withstands the forces to which it is subjected. This arrangement also makes it possible to provide it with two pulleys arranged symmetrically with respect to the axis of the device so that the control can be done at will to the right or to the left,

screening, handling, or other annexes.
One embodiment of the invention has been described below by way of example and illustrated in the accompanying drawing which shows a sectional elevation view through the vertical axis of the apparatus.
In a frame or casing, generally designated by 1, there is mounted a box 2 in which a cylindrical sleeve 3 can turn on the outside and the cavity of which is eccentric. The pendulum shaft 4, which carries the grinding nut 5 cooperating with the ring 6 and which, in its upper part, is inclined with respect to the axis of the whole of the apparatus, is engaged at its base 7 in the sleeve cavity 3.
A transverse shaft 8, mounted in bearings 9, and 10 formed in the housing 1, passes below the lowest point of the pendulum shaft 4-7. A pinion 11, keyed on the shaft 8, is engaged with a crown 12 integral with the sleeve 3 and having its teeth facing downwards. Thanks to this arrangement of the crown 12, it can be seen that the latter can have a much smaller diameter than if it were turned upwards and controlled from the top.
Two pulleys 13 and 14 are keyed on the shaft 8, any one of them being able to be used to drive the shaft 8 and the crusher while the other is used to control ancillary devices.
In another embodiment, the transverse control shaft, disposed laterally with respect to the pendulum shaft and completely passing through the frame as in the previous example, carries an endless screw engaged with a toothed wheel. replacing the sprocket shaft drive crown.
