<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
Fig. 1 est une vue latérale d'un fauteuil dit "transatlan- tique" établi conformément à l'invention;
Fig. 2 est une vue analogue d'une chaise repliable;
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

PATENT OF INVENTION ------------------ ADVANCED FOLDING SEATS
The invention relates to folding seats and it relates in particular to seats of this type, the seat of which itself is made of a flexible material, such as armchairs.
"transatlantic" and similar chairs.
In the arrangements proposed hitherto, it has been customary to constitute the arm supports of the seats of the type in question either with the aid of two elements articulated between them, or with the aid of a single element articulated at one end '. at the base of the seat and at its other end at the back of this seat.
The object of the invention is above all to improve the existing arrangements by constituting each of the arm rests using a single element, combined with the frame of the seat in such a way that the inclination can be adjusted. of the seat back.
To this end, it consists in articulating each of the arm supports, on the one hand to the base of the seat, and on the other hand to a sliding pivot, moving in a slide made in one of the uprights of the seat back.
It also consists, in the case of folding chairs, in providing this slide with detents in which
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
engage the sliding pivots of the ends of the arm supports in order to fix the position of the backrest.
It also consists, in the same case of folding chairs, in preferably bringing the sliding pivots together so that they can be hooked together by means of a single maneuver.
Apart from these main provisions, it also includes various other more ancillary and structural provisions which will emerge more clearly from the additional description which follows of certain preferred embodiments, shown, by way of example, in the drawing. annexed in which
Fig. 1 is a side view of a so-called "transatlantic" chair constructed in accordance with the invention;
Fig. 2 is a similar view of a folding chair;
Fig. 3 is a view on a larger scale showing, in partial perspective, the mode of assembly of the sliding pivots.
Referring to fig. 1, 1 and 2 designate elements of the seat which are articulated to one another at 21. Element 1 is extended by an element 11 forming part of the backrest frame, and to which is articulated at 3 a counter plug 4 used to adjust the position of the backrest,; which comes to rest in the notches 5 of element 2.
At the anterior end of this element 2 is articulated, preferably by interposing an intermediate piece 8, a one-piece arm support, 6, joined to - the piece 8 by a pivot 7. the other end of the arm support 6 carries a pivot 9 which is engaged in a slide 10 of the element 11, the arrangement being such that the pivot 9 can slide freely, without play, in the slide 10.
The seat is completed by a seat proper in flexible material, designated by 11, and fixed to crossbars 111 and 112 bringing together two sets identical to those previously described and arranged parallel to each other. In operation, when it is desired to modify the position of the backrest 11 of the seat, the counter plug 4 is brought into the appropriate notches 5, and simultaneously the pivots
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
sliding 9 move in the slide 10. When folding the seat, the strut 4 is released from the notches 5, the element 2 is brought into coincidence or parallel to the element 1, and the sliding pivots move simultaneously in the slide 10, the latter being extended sufficiently to allow this maneuver.
In the arrangement of FIG. 2, there are also the elements 1 and 2 of the base of the seat, which are articulated together at 21. Between the elements 1 and 2 a system of articulated connecting rods 12 is arranged so as to fix the open position.
On the element 1 is articulated at 12, an element 11 forming part of the backrest frame and this element 11 comprises a slide 10, which, in this case, is provided with stop notches 13.
A one-piece arm rest, 6, is hinged to the front end of element 2 of each of the parallel assemblies which have been described, and each of the arm rests 6 carries at its rear end a sliding pivot. 9 engaged in the slide 10, this pivot being such that it can also engage in the notches 13 of this slide.
A seat proper, in flexible material,! 1, completes the arrangement.
Under these conditions, the base of the seat being brought into its open position, the inclination of the backrest elements 11 can be controlled by bringing the sliding pivots 9 into one or the other of the notches 13 of the slides 10. .
To facilitate this maneuver, the sliding pivots 9 are preferably joined together, this connection being able to be ensured in any suitable manner, but advantageously with the aid of a bent rod 14 shown more clearly in FIG. 3, this rod being able to turn around its ends forming journals.
When it is desired to tilt the backrest further than it is shown, the sliding pivots 9 are released from the upper notches 13, to bring them into the lower notches 13. To fold the seat, the sliding pivots 9 are released from the notches 13, and held in the slide 10, while the system of articulated connecting rods is acted on.

abutments 12 and that the lower ends of elements 2 and 1 are brought towards each other. Under these conditions, the seat folds up, elements 2 and 1 folding against the elements 11 of the backrest, while the sliding pivots 9 move in the slide 10.
As goes without saying and as we have already suggested, it is understood that the embodiments more specially described and represented are only examples, and that we could add modifications without departing from their principles of establishment.
