<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

for chimney or ventilation hood
The present invention relates to a hood for chimneys, for hoods, for ventilation shafts etc ... and which removes from the opening of the chimney etc ... any untimely influence of external air currents.
We already know convertible tops characterized in that the opening of the chimney is arranged inside a rigid envelope which covers it.
The oapotes of this type are provided with a certain number of slits, holes etc ... and fulfill their task, that is to say to produce a certain pressure at the opening of the chimney or well, only when the wind is blowing in defined directions or at defined angles of inclination. For other angles of the wind, they no longer work, because they give birth
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
at a pressure instead of a depression, in the case that the wind blows from below or from above, for example. In addition, they most often include a lot of parts so as to be expensive in terms of purchase and maintenance and they are not protected against rainwater, which can enter them. The hood of the present invention overcomes these drawbacks.
According to the invention, the mouth pipe of a chimney having a circular or square section, for example, is capped with a simple hood, open downwards only, having a circular or polygonal horizontal projection, for example, and which protects the opening of said pipe against projected water and rain. At a suitable distance and below this apote there is a disc or a disc-like body.
The area of the horizontal projection of this disc may be equal to or less than the area of the,
EMI2.1
horizontal projection of the top. The disc prevents air currents rising along the hose from entering the interior of the convertible top and producing pressure there. On the contrary, it laterally expands currents of this kind and, at the same time, the gas rising in the well and exiting the apote.
From such a top, the gases escape through the single slit formed between the top and the disc, independently of any external air current which is directed against them.
The hood can have various shapes. Through
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
for example, a round exhaust pipe may be capped with a triangular prismatic cap whose sides are fixed tangentially to this pipe; or else above a square exhaust pipe there is a cap of the same square and in diagonal arrangement with respect to said pipe and the edges of which may be bevelled or rounded, the arrangement being made in such a way that the Midpoints of the four inner sides of the cap touch the outer, four ridges of the prismatic exhaust pipe. At these points of contact, the pipe and the bonnet are connected to each other, so special brackets are not required.
The horizontal projection of the afferent disc and located below the cap can have any shape, circular or square, for example. Instead of the disc, we can also empby the upper surface of the edge of the chimney or the ventilation shaft and which will be horizontal or inclined downwards to a certain extent. The lower edge of the hat is then arranged at such a height above this surface that the air currents directed upwards cannot penetrate into the hat.
According to the present invention and in the case of a chimney or a polygonal and thick-walled ventilation shaft and which is capped with a polygonal cap in a diagonal arrangement, the upper surface of the edge of the well may be. greater than the horizontal projection of the hat.
This is so because in this oas-oi, the body of the
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
Thick-walled chimney or vent wells should replace the disc to deflect rising air away from inside the bonnet.
Compared to the dimensions of the cap it must have such an extensive upper brim surface that the underside of the cap, the secondary orifice, is protected against the entry of air currents which die down towards the cap along side walls of the body and then the chimney or ventilation.
The hat can be moved and adjusted in the direction of its axis so that the height of the exhaust slit, i.e., the effect of the convertible top, can be adjusted at will. In addition, guide walls, vanes or supports can be arranged which connect the cap and the disc to one another.
The accompanying drawing shows schematically some embodiments of the present invention. Fig. 1 shows a vertical section of a round chimney hood, FIG. 2 shows a vertical section of a hood mounted on a round pipe. Figs. 3 and 5 show vertical sections made by a square hood provided respectively with a square disk and a circular disk, Figs. 4 and 6 being the corresponding planes.
The oreux shaft of a round chimney a (Fig.l) is extended at the top by a pipe b. Above this pipe, there is a closed cap at its upper end (o) and connected to said pipe by means of supports (d) Uniformly distributed and which
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
serve as guide vanes in the space separating the pipe and the cap D. is arrangement being made in such a way that there is formed a single secondary mouth, that is to say the annular slot h.
These radial guide vanes can also be substituted for vertical supports, for example, which adapt tangentially to the cap.
By modifying the dimensions and proportions of these with respect to parts c, a and h, any desired effect can be achieved.
Fig. 2 shows a chimney or ventilation hood, the same round, and which is mounted on a round shaft. The hood consists of a cylindrical pipe and an oyliudric cap c which covers this pipe. Below the cap, there is an annular disc which is connected to the pipe, and which carries vertical and radial guide vanes g serving as supports. Between the lower edge of the oha- skin c and the upper surface of the disc f, there is therefore formed an annular split 1 comprising: several channels leading into the interior of the cap. The upper end of the pipe is in Fig.
2 closer to the bottom of the hat g than in Fig.l and in this way, the mouth of the pipe estsoustraite more efficiently to the influence of the winds acting in the vicinity of the annular slot through which the gases escape.
Figs. 3-6 show the diagonal arrangement of a .0 prismatic square cap. above a square well b and which is provided with a square or circular disc 1. The square disk f, whose corners
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
can be detached, is also arranged diagonally to the cap ,, Claims.
1) Chimney or ventilation hood with a cap covering the mouth or closed, characterized in that it is arranged below the cap (c) a disc (f), or a body resembling a disc, whose surface is used to guide the wind and whose horizontal projection area is not greater than that of the horizontal projection of the hat.
