<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

Central heating boiler.
Central heating boilers are currently divided into three categories depending on the nature of the fuel they are intended to burn: solid, liquid or gas.
For the manufacturer, it is expensive to build three entirely different types of boilers in order to meet the demands of the buyers, and on the other hand the buyers are embarrassed in their choice, because if the solid fuels are still currently those whose use is the most widespread, fuel oil and especially gas offer such advantages that their use is destined to become widespread.
The object of the present invention is to provide a boiler for central heating, hot water distribution and
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
similar uses, which can burn solid, liquid or gaseous fuels indifferently, with very slight modifications to switch from one fuel to another, and with excellent efficiency in each case. We immediately see the advantages of a boiler designed in this way, both for the manufacturer who will be able to concentrate his production on a single type of boiler, and for the buyer who will be allowed to transform his heating installation at low cost. he wishes to adopt a fuel different from that for which the boiler was originally intended.
According to the invention, the boiler comprises, on either side of a central space open from top to bottom, two halves each having their own water and smoke circulation system, and upper and lower supports. - Lugs capable of removably supporting, in the central space, the first either a cover, or an oil burner, or a heating body with water circulation, and the second either a grid or a refractory screen, or a series of gas ramps. To adapt the boiler to the fuel chosen, it is therefore sufficient to suspend from the supports those of the components mentioned which are suitable for this fuel.
Depending on the case, the central space will serve as a store and home for the solid fuel, or as a combustion chamber for oil or gas, a part of this chamber being able to be occupied by the additional heating body, suspended to the upper brackets and connected to the water chambers of the boiler halves. The addition of such a heating body significantly increases the heating surface of the boiler without increasing its size and, moreover, as it acts as a boiler by being exposed directly to the A
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
heat from the flames, the water it contains heats up quickly and circulation in the heating circuit is activated.
Preferably, the upper and lower supports are constituted by projections or tabs on the walls of the boiler halves, and these halves themselves are formed by juxtaposed elements constituting, in the known manner, water chambers and flues. alternating smoke.
In order for the invention to be fully understood, an embodiment thereof will be described below, shown by way of example in the appended drawing in which FIGS. 1 to 5 show, in vertical cross section through the flues, the same boiler differently equipped depending on the nature of the fuel to be burned.
In all the figures, a and b denote the two halves of the boiler surrounding the central space ± which, when the boiler is not fitted, is free from top to bottom. Each half a or b comprises a certain number of juxtaposed elements forming between them smoke flues 1 which alternate with water chambers not visible in the drawing and are connected by a chimney flue 2, while the chambers of water communicate through an outlet duct 3 and a return duct 4. The central space c. throttled in the middle of its height, opens out at its lower part in which open the flues 1 of the two halves of the boiler.
Two rails 5, of U-shaped section, placed in parallel on the foundation 6, maintain the desired alignment and spacing of the elements a and b; only the front and back elements of the boiler extend over the entire width of the latter to enclose the space c at the front and at the rear.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
In the space ± protrude on the walls facing the halves a and b, cleats d and e made of cast iron with the elements and constituting the upper and lower supports, respectively, intended to support the removable equipment components of Boiler.
In Fig. l, which shows the boiler equipped to burn small-caliber coal, the lower supports e carry a speed hump grate 7 on which rests the fuel filling the space c which is closed by a cover 8 placed on the upper brackets d. The upper constricted part of the space c serves as a store for the reserve fuel which burns on the grate 7 in its lower flared part, at the inlet of the flues 1.
To burn large-caliber coal or coke, the grate 7 can be replaced by a flatter grate 9, as shown in fig. 2.
In the case of fig. 3, the upper tabs d support an oil burner 10 which obstructs the top of the space c, in which it launches its flame from top to bottom towards a refractory screen 11, in a speed hump, carried by the lower tabs e and plugging the underside of the space c.
This thus forms a combustion chamber from which the flames, divided by the screen 11 into two symmetrical currents, escape through the flues 1.
Instead of a vertical burner 10, it is advantageous to use a horizontal burner 12 arranged at the front or at the rear of the boiler and injecting the oil into the lower flared part of the space c, like the shows fig. 4, because it is then possible to accommodate in the upper part of this space c an additional heating body 13 suspended from the
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
upper tabs d and connected by ducts 14 to ducts 3 of halves a and b of the boiler. With a conical cross section, this heating body or boiler 13 offers a large surface area for the heat radiated by the flames of the burner and it significantly increases the efficiency of the boiler without additional expenditure of fuel. With the burner 12, use is made of a refractory screen 15 of flat shape.
Fig. 5 shows the boiler equipped for gas heating. It is provided in this case with a series of gas rails 16 supported by the lower tabs e, and also comprises an additional heating body 13 suspended from the upper tabs d. The use of the body 13 is particularly useful for gas heating owing to the fact that the increase in the heating surface thus produced makes it possible to obtain rapid heating of the water to the operating temperature when the boiler is switched on, this which is an important condition for saving gas heating.
Although it is preferable, for the ease of construction and assembly of the boiler, to form the latter of juxtaposed elements as described above, it goes without saying that the invention is not limited to this embodiment, nor to the other details of execution described and shown by way of example.
