Abstract
The present invention relates to an improved wood and charcoal cooker which has a system for easily discharging ash and other unburnt solids as well as a secondary air supply installation for burning all combustion gases, thereby improving the efficiency of the combustion process. improved thermal efficiency of the cooker. In the present improved wood and charcoal cooker, the hot secondary air is injected above the primary combustion flame in order to burn all the primary combustion gases emitted which significantly improves the thermal efficiency of the cooker which exceeds then 90%. Due to the excellent efficiency of our improved wood and charcoal cooker, the consumption of solid fuel is low; thus the present wood and charcoal cooker makes it possible to save 80% of wood compared to a traditional "3 stones" cooker.
Description
The present invention relates to an improved and efficient cooker which is fired with wood or charcoal and which draws in by natural draft of the primary air to burn the solid fuel and of the secondary air to burn the gases and particles emitted. during the primary combustion of wood or charcoal, hence the double combustion. The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that 2 million people, mostly women and children, die each year in developing countries as a result of inhaling toxic fumes and fine particles released by traditional wood cookers. said 3 stones which have a mediocre thermal efficiency, less than 10%. Hence the need for the implementation of efficient wood and charcoal cookers capable of reducing the smoke and particle emissions emitted by traditional wood cookers. Most of the improved wood and charcoal cookers on the market have two main drawbacks, which are: difficulty in cleaning and removing ash and unburnt solids; an absence of secondary air supply to burn off all the combustion gases. In conventional improved cookers ash and unburnt solids are discharged by overturning the cooker; furthermore, unburned combustion gases are released from the cooker, which decreases the thermal efficiency of the cooker. The primary combustion of wood here has a thermal efficiency which is still low, much less than 50%. In view of the above, a real need exists for an improved wood and charcoal cooker which has a system for easily removing ash and other unburnt solids as well as a secondary air supply installation in order to burn all the flue gas, thereby improving the thermal efficiency of the improved cooker. The gases emitted by the heated wood burn at a very high temperature with an efficiency which is potentially very close to 100%. Such a cooker has a high efficiency, over 90%, using wood and charcoal. The technical advances of the present improved wood and charcoal cooker as well as the objectives pursued are visible in the following description and the drawing (FIG. 1) which is appended.
The most rudimentary system for cooking with wood is the 3 stone fireplace. Depending on the way it is managed, its yield varies from 3 to 15%. The 3 stone fireplace is often exposed to the wind and gives off flames which are not adapted to the size of the pot. There are more sophisticated cookers that improve performance and ease of use. They are made of sheet steel or clay, with more or less complex shapes that each time save a little yield and therefore reduce the amount of firewood. The principle of an improved 5 wood cooker is simple, it consists in creating the best possible wood combustion conditions in order to obtain the maximum energy from it. Such a cooker has a combustion chamber of a dimension adapted to the power of the cooker, air intakes of the right size corresponding to the power of the cooker and arranged in the right places, and as far as possible allows the pipe 10 of the flame around the pot to maximize heat exchange and energy recovery. One of the best known improved cookers is the “rocket stove”; it allows to divide by 3 the consumption of wood compared to a 3 stone fireplace. This type of cooker can also be made from clay. The best known and most widely used charcoal cooker is the Malagasy cooker. Although simple and inexpensive, the Madagascan cooker is not economical on charcoal because a large part of the energy is radiated outwards, and therefore lost, the cooker not being isolated. The efficiency of a Madagascan cooker hardly reaches 25%. In addition to their thermal yields which are not high enough, these single combustion wood and charcoal cookers have difficulty in cleaning and removing ash and unburnt solids; and they lack a secondary air supply system to burn off all flue gases. In these conventional improved cookers the ash and unburnt solids are very often removed by overturning the cooker; furthermore, unburned combustion gases are released from the cooker, which decreases the thermal efficiency of the cooker. The object of our invention is to overcome these shortcomings by providing a system for easily removing ash and unburnt solids; installing a secondary air supply system to burn off all primary combustion gases; all of which lead to a significant increase in the thermal efficiency of our dual combustion wood and charcoal cooker.
The apparatus that we describe in this document is an improved and efficient cooker which is fueled with wood or charcoal and which draws in by natural draft of the primary air to burn the solid fuel and of the secondary air to burn gases and particles emitted during the primary combustion of wood or charcoal. The present invention describes an improved wood and charcoal cooker which has a system for easily removing ash and other unburnt solids as well as a secondary air supply installation to burn off any combustion gases, thereby improving the thermal efficiency of the cooker improved. In the present improved wood and charcoal cooker, the hot secondary air is injected above the primary combustion flame in order to burn off any primary combustion gases emitted thereby significantly improving the thermal efficiency of the cooker which results in a significant improvement in the thermal efficiency of the cooker. then exceeds 90%. Due to the excellent efficiency of the present improved wood and charcoal cooker, the consumption of solid fuel is low; thus the present wood and charcoal cooker saves 80% of wood compared to a traditional 3 stone cooker.
This wood and charcoal cooker (Figure 1) is composed of a cylindrical metal enclosure (1) which constitutes the combustion chamber. The present improved wood and charcoal cooker retains heat well inside the cooker by virtue of the earthen thermal insulation (3) which covers its entire interior surface. The present wood and charcoal cooker has handles (5) provided with rods of solid insulating material (4) which facilitate the transport of the cooker even in operation. The present wood and charcoal cooker is supplied with solid fuel (wood or charcoal) by two opposing slots (8) made on the side wall at mid-height of the cooker. The present wood and charcoal cooker 30 has two metal tabs (9) fixed on the two side slots and inclined towards the interior of the cooker; these metal tabs support the pieces of combustible wood. The present improved wood and charcoal cooker has a circular flat metal box (11) which communicates with the exterior (13) and on which the pieces of wood or fuel charcoal rest. Two cylindrical metal tubes (7) extend from the flat metal box and carry secondary air to the hot flue gases. The present improved wood and charcoal cooker has, inside, a metal cap (6) in the shape of a Laval nozzle which channels the combustion gases and accelerates the flame to the bottom of the pot. A small rake (14) is supplied separately with the Improved Wood and Charcoal Cooker to scrape the hearth from the firebox and discharge ash and unburned solids to the outside of the cooker through a semi-circular slot ( 10) made 10 on the side wall of the cooker at the height of the combustion chamber. The present improved wood and charcoal cooker is closed at its base. The present wood and charcoal cooker rests on four metal legs (12) in inverted V welded to the structure of the cooker. The present improved wood and charcoal cooker has a pot support grid (2) specially designed to aid in drawing combustion gases regardless of the diameter of the pot base.
Lors de la combustion du bois, le bois se décompose 25 thermiquement en charbon de bois et en différents gaz, principalement du CO2 et deThe wood or charcoal must be very dry before being introduced into the hearth of the cooker and if possible have a diameter of less than 3 cm to burn efficiently and produce a good flow of heat which rises to the pot. To start the wood heating quickly, however, a smaller wood diameter will be used. Avoid introducing too much wood or charcoal into the cooker hearth as this does not allow good mixing of the solid fuel and the combustion air essential for good combustion. A larger diameter of wood or charcoal, 3 to 4 cm, can be used in cases of long cooking. During the combustion of wood, the wood is thermally decomposed into charcoal and various gases, mainly CO2 and carbon.
Combustible gases, mixed with the primary air, ignite and produce a vigorous flame. In most conventional improved cookers more than half of the fuel gases do not burn in the primary air. In the present improved wood and charcoal cooker, the hot secondary air is injected above the primary combustion flame in order to burn off any flue gases emitted thereby significantly improving the thermal efficiency of the over-sized cooker. then 90%. Due to the excellent efficiency of the present improved wood and charcoal cooker, the consumption of solid fuel is low; thus the present wood and charcoal cooker saves 80% of wood compared to a traditional 3 stone cooker.
