<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

"Lid closure for boxes and other containers"
The invention relates to a lid closure for boxes and other containers. Its purpose is to provide a closure such that the cover adapted to the box is locked therein so that it cannot open by itself as a result of shocks received from the outside or otherwise, but that one can always open the box by applying pressure in opposite directions on the edge of the lid.
The closure can also be screw-type, a special execution of the engaged parts then producing a locking of the thread while, in spite of this, the cover fits gently on the box, so that, although the box is
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
closed securely and hermetically, the cover can be easily removed.
The invention essentially consists in that, when the boot is closed, a bead formed directly at the free edge of the boot or the cover, or both, allows this or these edges to extend elastically in the axial direction of the box. As a result of this extension of the bead, its outside diameter decreases, so that the cover can easily be pushed onto the box. The cover is slightly bulged at its periphery, at the place that the bead of the box finally reaches when the lid is pushed in completely, and it is in this bulge of the lid that the bead of the boot is housed, thus locking the cover on the boot.
It is essential, both for the locking and for the opening of the boot, that the bead is located directly at the free edge, because this arrangement makes possible the elastic extension of the bulge in the direction of the axis. longitudinal of the box.
The closure described above has the particularity of being able to be opened easily if pressure is exerted at two diametrically opposed places on the edge of the boot. The box opens suddenly under the action of such pressure. According to a particular embodiment, to prevent this pressure from being produced by other boxes already packed, the upper edge of the box is made to have an S profile, by forming a bead and a groove therein, and that, when the box is closed, the lower edge of the cover is housed in the lower groove, set back from the body of the boot.
The invention is shown by way of example in the accompanying drawing, in which:
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
Figo 1 is a schematic sectional view of the open box with the lid on top of the box.
Figo 2 is another embodiment of Fig.l.
Figo 3 is a schematic plan view of the box.
Fig. 4 shows a screw-on box, the box being shown in elevation and the cover in section.
Fig. 5 is a schematic sectional view of a part of a box which can be closed by the cover shown in FIG. 4.
In Figure 1, 1 denotes the stamped sheet metal box which is terminated at its upper edge by the bead 2.
As shown in the drawing, the free edge of the box at the same time forms the free edge of this bead. The complementary cover is designated by 3; it is slightly flared at its lower edge 4, and has at its upper edge a circular bulge 5. When the cover 3 is pushed onto the box 1 in the direction of the arrow P, the bead 2 first comes into contact with edge 4, then as the cover 3 sinks in, the bulge 2 undergoes an extension in the direction of the double arrow p1 taking the shape exaggeratedly shown by the dotted line 2a. This being the case, the cover can be pushed all the way onto the box until the bead 2 or 2a finally reaches the bulge 5 of the cover and comes to rest there, relaxing slightly.
The cover is thus locked on the boot and cannot be removed by simple traction. It is even necessary to exert pressure on the edge of the box in the direction of the arrows P2, in two diametrically opposed places, as shown in FIG. 3, so that the cover jumps out of the box while lifting.
Figure 2 shows the embodiment which prevents the box from opening under the action of forces which @
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
would accidentally act on the outer edge. In this embodiment, the edge of the boot has a groove 7 and a bead 7 following one another.
In this embodiment, the bead 7 also takes the shape indicated by the dotted line 7a, when the cover 3a is pushed onto the box. In this case, the cover has an edge 8 rolled towards the outside which, together with the adjoining parts, is completely housed in the hollow of the groove 6, when the cover 3a is pushed fully into the box. . Thanks to this arrangement, it is impossible that, for example when boxes are packed in several stacks, one of these stacks exerts on the edge of a neighboring box a pressure which could make it open by itself. .
In Fig. 4, 1b designates the upper part of a boot, the bead 9 of which constitutes a thread. The corresponding cover 3b has at its lower edge an internal bulge or groove 10 also forming a screw thread.
This groove 10 constitutes the internal thread, while the bead 9 constitutes the external thread. When the cover 3b is screwed onto the box 16, the lower edge 11 of the cover 3b finally comes into contact with the edge 12 of the box 1b.
As the bulge 10 may extend slightly, as in the embodiment described above, along the longitudinal axis of the box, it is possible to screw the cover a little further on the box. box to thereby ensure a hermetic seal and at the same time to produce a locking of the screwed closure, due to the extension of the screw thread which takes the shape indicated by the dotted line 10a.
Lid @
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
3b can also be screwed onto a box shown in FIG. 5; in this embodiment, the screw thread can also, due to the firmness of the bulge 10b, undergo a slight extension along the longitudinal axis of the box which makes it possible to obtain the same advantages as those described above .
