<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
On comprend, que lorsque le couvercle est mis en place sur la boite (fig. 1 et fig. le)', il vient prendre appui verticalement d'une part par sa partie fl, sur la partie supérieure de la branche ± de la collerette et, d'autre part par sa partie f, sur la branche interne montante c2 de cette même collerette ;
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

"Metal box with waterproof closure"
The subject of the invention is a sealed metal box, ensuring the maximum opening compatible with the use of a flange, at the same time as perfect sealing of the closure and great rigidity of the edge. upper part of the box body, while leaving great ease of opening and allowing the box to be reused almost indefinitely despite multiple openings and closings, without causing any deterioration.
This box is characterized first of all by the special shape of the collar crimped on the upper edge of the body, and which ensures a double elasticity of the closure in both directions: horizontal and vertical.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
It is also characterized by the special arrangement of the cover, which, acting in combination with the special collar above, has three ranges of closures, namely two vertical surfaces which rest respectively on the lower and upper internal faces. of the collar and a horizontal bearing resting on the horizontal edge of the same collar.
This combined arrangement of the flange and the cover thus provides, thanks to this triple closing support, an absolute tightness of the closure. On the other hand, the double elasticity of the collar, which remains perfectly in use, allows both an easy and practical opening of the cover, as well as the practically indefinite reuse of the closure.
The accompanying drawing shows the arrangement of the transmission system established in accordance with the invention.
Fig. 1 is a vertical section of the box closed by its cover and partially sectioned in height.
Fig. 1a is a detail section of the bezel set on the upper edge of the box body, and of the cover in the closed position.
Fig. 2 is a section through the cover separated from the box.
Fig. 3 is the vertical section of the box without its cover.
Fig. 3a is a detail section of the collar.
As seen in this drawing, the body of
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
box a provided with its usual crimped bottom b, has, on its upper edge, an added collar o crimped on oe edge. The main branch o of this collar, which rests on the body a, is extended, on the one hand, upwards by a part ol folded over and crimped on the outside on this body and, on the other hand, inwards by a curved and rising part c2, itself folded back at its upper part so as to form a horizontal branch which stops at a certain distance from the main branch c, leaving a certain interval opposite it d.
The cover e, in the form of a cap, is extended on its outer edge, by a rising vertical rim f, extended by a part fl, also vertical, but with a diameter a little greater than that of the lower part f. Between the two vertical parts f and fl of the rim of the cover there is a small horizontal connecting part f2. Finally, the upper end of the rim of the cover ends in a small rolled part f3. which, as we will see later, is used to open the lid *
It will be understood that when the cover is in place on the box (fig. 1 and fig. Le) ', it comes to bear vertically on the one hand by its part fl, on the upper part of the branch ± of the collar and, on the other hand by its part f, on the rising internal branch c2 of this same collar;
in addition, it comes, through its part f2, to put pressure on the folded horizontal part of the branch c2 of the collar. However, due to the free space d left between this horizontal part
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
and the main branch c of the collar, the latter yields slightly both in the horizontal and in the vertical direction and, thus forming a sort of spring, ensures the energetic application of the bearing surfaces of the cover on the elements of the collar, thus achieving a triple elastic closure which ensures perfect tightness of the closure.
This closure will be obtained very easily by simply pushing the cover into the collar ending the box body by hand.
The opening will also be done very conveniently by introducing any flat object, preferably metallic, for example a simple coin. in the interval left between the rolled edge f3 of the cover and the upper bead of the collar. For this purpose, the upper part fl of the rim of the cover will be made sufficiently high to provide this necessary gap for ease of opening.
Thanks to the flattened shape of the internal turning over of the collar, the latter only takes up the smallest space inside the upper part of the gearbox body, which leaves, as can be seen, the maximum opening for the box. In addition, this collar, crimped on the upper edge of the gearbox body, significantly reinforces this edge, which offers all the desirable rigidity and thus avoids the otherwise frequent deformations of the edge.
It goes without saying that the details of execution which have been described above and which have been shown in the appended drawing, have only been shown by way of non-limiting examples of the invention. and that this one is
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
susceptible of all variations. Thus, the shape of the folding of the collar crimped with the upper edge of the box could, of course, be achieved in a somewhat different manner from that described above provided that it still ensures, thanks to a gap left free between its branches, a double elasticity both in the vertical direction and in the horizontal direction.
