<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

"IMPROVEMENTS AT SURE.TE RAZORS"
Safety razors are usually constructed with a guard extending beyond the cutting edge of the blade, the protrusions being serrated or otherwise arranged to provide the limit clearance necessary for the operation of the blade. Different types of safety razors are generally used both single and double edged, the blade being in all cases constructed and mounted on the support so that the cutting edge is parallel to the edge of the blade. keep.
The present invention relates to safety razors in which the guard has a rectilinear edge and comprises teeth of equal length from one end to the other, the razor being, for use, moved according to
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
a trajectory perpendicular to the edge of the guard so that it tends to stretch or flatten the user's skin and prevent the blade from penetrating the skin or cutting the user, as can happen if the razor is moved. in a direction other than that which is perpendicular to the edge of the guard.
Such perpendicular movement of the cutting edge of the blade against the bristles to be raaer tends to tear off the bristles while cutting them, and the object of the present invention is to allow such movement of the guards or supports. having a rectil'igne edge of the above kind, in a direction perpendicular to this edge but inclined relative to the edge of the blade so as to decrease or avoid the tendency of the razor to pull out the hairs.
According to the invention the blades for safety razors are made, in part, in the usual manner and arranged to be fixed rigidly, but in a removable manner, on supports having a straight edge guard comprising teeth of 'Equal length from end to end as known or otherwise suitable.
However, instead of the sharp edge (s) of the blade being positioned or disposed relative to the securing means so as to be parallel to the guard, said cutting edge (s) is or are arranged so as to that they are slightly inclined in relation to said guard, whereby, when the support is moved over the face of the user with the desired perpendicular displacement, a cutting effect, or a combined effect, cutting and shearing will be obtained, which will result in a smooth and easy shave.
Said shaving, or combined shaving and cutting effect may also be obtained, by giving the edges of the safety razor blades of the above kind either a curved, concave or convex profile, or
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
a serrated or wavy profile, and by mounting these blades on a guard whose edges are straight and parallel and have teeth of equal length from one end to the other.
The invention will be more particularly described with reference to the accompanying drawings in which the various la = $ have been shown larger than life.
In these drawings, FIG. 1 is a plan view of a flexible double-edged blade of the known type.
Fig. 2 shows a blade of the same type improved according to the invention, this blade being shown in FIG. 3 in the position it occupies on guard.
@ Figs. 4 to 6 representing three construction variants of a blade of the same type, constructed according to the invention.
Figs. 7 and 8 showing two forms of construction of a single-edged blade according to the invention.
Fig. 1 of the drawings shows a flexible blade a of the well-known double-edged type, in which the cutting edges b, b are parallel to the line of centers c on which are centered the circular hole d, to receive the clamping screw and the two holes ee (generally non-circular), which must receive the dowels or goujona carried by the clamping plate (not shown) for the relative positioning of the blade on the guard f with the edges b parallel to the edge of said guard. as clearly shown in the drawings, the manipulation handle being integrally formed with the guard.
The holes e, e, pegs or position, instead of being arranged on the line of centers c, are, con-
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
formally with the present invention, arranged on a line of centers g passing through the hole d but inclined with respect to the line of centers c, so that said all ± are to the right and to the left of the line g, at a distance indicated in x, whereby the edges of the blade are arranged, with respect to said positioning holes, or vice versa, so that, when the blade is in position on the support, the edges b of this blade are inclined relative to the edges of guard 1 ..
which are rectilinear and have teeth f1 of equal length from one end to the other and perpendicular to said edges, as is clearly shown in FIG. 3. the inclination being governed by the play between the edges of the guard and the clamping piece, the cutting edges thus being completely free.
Snr fig. 4, a similar result is obtained by placing the holes e, e on the line of centers of the blade, but by giving the edges b1 of the latter a convex profile, each of these edges thus being inclined in two directions with respect to the edge of the garda on either side of the transverse axis like this, is clearly shown in the drawing.
The same result can be obtained, but with inclinations in the opposite direction, giving the edges b2 a concave profile comma. shown in fig. 5. while in fig. 6, which represents a blade whose edges b3 have a wavy profile, each blade edge tilts in more than two directions with respect to the edges to keep these said guard edges being, in all cases, straight and having teeth fl of equal length from one end to the other and perpendicular to said edges *,
Fig. 7 shows a blade h with a single sharp edge, of the kind whose relative position on the guard is obtained by applying the edge i
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
against stops carried by said guard.
Such. Blades can be constructed in accordance with the present invention by providing a stop at an angle so that the blade automatically assumes a position where the cutting edge i is inclined with respect to the straight edge of the guard to which this blade is applied., such as shown, the teeth of said guard being formed as in the previous examples.
We are shown in fig. 8 an example of a razor blade ± with a single cutting edge, arranged to be fixed to the support by its posterior edge e, in this case, the bard m is inclined, as seen in n, with respect to said posterior edge e .
Thanks to these means, the existing safety razors will be of a smoother and easier action, without this affecting the safety which is their characteristic.
It goes without saying that the invention has been described and shown only for explanatory purposes but in no way limiting and that it will be possible to make modifications of detail without altering its spirit.
