<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>
<Desc/Clms Page number 8>
<Desc/Clms Page number 9>
<Desc/Clms Page number 10>

The present invention relates to improvements to hand grippers, applying more particularly to nutcrackers arranged in such a way that the two branches being pushed by a spring in the direction of opening towards the elements. end stop, the angular closing travel is limited by another stop, which ensures, at a given distance from the joint, a constant crushing stock exchange, and prevents the fruit from being crushed at the same time. time that the hull is broken.
The present description will be made for a nutcracker, but the invention can be applied to other crushing pliers or to pliers intended to cause on pieces of irregular dimensions and deformable a clamping of constant amplitude.
This nutcracker is rnuni shovels conical or more generally flared in a direction parallel to the axis
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
articulation, so that in use one can benefit from this constant crushing stroke whatever the size of the fruit engaged in the apparatus, the fruit in fact penetrating more or less into the shovels, but its distance to the articulation always remaining the same.
This nutcracker will generally have two sets of shovels, one intended for smaller fruits, for example hazelnuts, and the other for larger fruits, for example walnuts, these two sets being located on the lead side that the operating branches with respect to the joint which is thus placed at the end,
The particular advantage of the device, compared to that in which the articulation is placed between the branches and one of the sets of shovels, lies in the fact that if it is necessary to break a small amount of determined hardness, a certain force, the force on the joint is greater than that necessary to break the shell of the nut when this joint is located between the shovels and the branches,
whereas the force on this articulation is on the contrary lower when this articulation is placed on the other side of the shovels.
The advantage is particularly appreciable for a device with nelles, in which the fruit can remain towards the opening of the Délies when it is relatively large, or on the contrary, move towards the other end if it is small. , because then a torsional force is added to the bending force to which the joint is subjected. There is therefore particular interest in putting the joint under the most favorable conditions from the point of view of resistance, which makes it possible to reduce the sections or to produce the same on a less resistant material, and in particular to use for this kind of light metals.

Figure 16 shows an alternative stop to opening.
Figure 16 bis shows a cross section of the nutcracker shown in Figure 16.
Figure 17 shows a variant of the device of Figures 16 & 16 bis.
- Figures'I, Ibis, and I ter represent an embodiment of the invention.
The nutcracker consists of two branches 1 and 2 fitted with two sets of shovels 3 3 '4 4', and articulated around an axis 5.
These branches are returned to the opening position by a spring 6. The opening stop is made along the faces 7 7 'formed respectively on each of the branches, and the closing stop is effected by contact of the legs. 8 8 'nipples. The joint is established as shown in Figure 2.
Each branch is hollowed out over about half of the total thickness to form two parts fitting into each other; a shoulder screw 9 is used to assemble them, the head of which will preferably be slightly recessed, as shown in Figure 2, so that the surface serving as a support for the head of the screw does not not suffer the effects of polishing, and remains as it was machined, well perpendicular to the axis.
The shoulder 9 made on the screw (Fig. 2 & 2 bis)
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
allows you to block it so that it forms a body with one of the branches without tightening the other by the head.
- The shoulder screw will preferably be shaped as shown in Figure 2a with a clearance 10 separating the threaded portion of the screw.
This avoids the drawback resulting from the fact that it is impossible to shape the thread up to a shoulder, which requires clearing the entry of the screw into the threaded branch and reduces the carrying surface of the thread. shoulder.
- The direction of threading will be such that, when an effort is made to break a shell, the screw tends to tighten.
Figures 1 bis and I ter show that there is a kind of shell over the entire height at the end of each branch, enveloping the joint, which is preferable for contact with the hand (which often keeps the fruit in, place) and helps to increase the resistance of the joint.
Figures 4 & 4 bis show the scoops 4 and 3 '-mitted with striations such as 13 intended to retain the fruit; these shovels are reinforced by ribs 14 & 15, connecting with them by fillets of sufficiently large radius, of the order of 4 or 5 M / m at least, to promote polishing.
Also to facilitate polishing, the upper and lower parts of the shovels, instead of being separated as shown in Figures 9 & 8 which will be discussed later, will preferably be connected to each other by flat parts, or to each other. low concavity, such as the surface limited to the contour a, b, c, d, e, f, g, (See Fig. 1 & 3) the edge e, f, g, being however softened and connected with the upper parts h, and lower k veins.
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
The conicity or the widening of the shovels, and the distance of those constituting one of the sets will be determined so that the smallest spacing of the large ones corresponds approximately to the greatest spacing of the small ones, which ensures the continuity of dimension in the hulls. likely to be subjected to breaking by the device.
- The part laterally limiting the small shovels intended for hazelnuts will end with projecting ridges such as bp (Fig. I) which can be used to break the shell of the almonds by penetrating this serrated ridge, which requires less effort than the breaking by support of concave parts.
To this end, these shovels will be extended so that the two symmetrical edges, such as b p, approach downwards, and that their average distance corresponds to the average size of the almonds.
Figures 4 & 4 bis show that the body of each of the branches, taking the form of a rib connecting to the shovels, is of greater section in line with the small shovels so that. ,, in the together, its shape approximates that of a solid of equal fatigue, thereby saving material weight.
As shown in FIG. 2 ter, the articulation will optionally be constituted by a central part integral with one of the branches and penetrating into the end of the other which will then be formed as a yoke.
In the arrangement shown in Figs. 5, 5bis, 5b, 5a, 6 & 7 the stop on opening, instead of being done on 2 elements of the branches coming into contact with each other is done by contact of these branches with a plate 16, carrying 16 'and 16 "nozzles.
<Desc / Clms Page number 8>
This plate may have the shape shown in Figs. 5 & 5 bis, or that shown in FIG. 5b, of which FIG. 6 is the projection, or that shown at 17 in FIG. 5a. The plates 16 or 17 are mounted floating on the cylindrical part of the cap screw as shown in FIG. 6, the shoulder of the screw pressing on the branch and not on the plate.
- Instead of a single plate inserted between the branches, it is possible as shown in Figs. 9, 9, & 10 & II have, on the top and the bottom, two plates such as 18, the parts 30 and 30 'of which form a stop on the surfaces 19 19' formed on the branches.
The assembly is made either by means of a shoulder screw whose shoulder rests on the face 20 (see Fig. 10) of one of the plates, or by an ordinary screw 21 as shown in this same Fig. 10.
The Screw is stopped to prevent its loosening by any appropriate means, for example by a punch made at 22.
The plates 18 could be reduced to a single one, each of the branches then ending in a yoke intended to receive this plate, like the right branch in FIG. 2 ter.
- The branches of the nutcracker can be made of stamped metal. (The above relates more specifically to branches obtained by molding.)
Figure 12 shows a nutcracker as well
<Desc / Clms Page number 9>
established, the latter having no shovels, one of which is shown separately in FIG. 14. Notches such as 23 & 24 will be provided in said branches, in which the shovels will engage which will then be fixed in position, or by deformation of the metal, as shown in FIGS.
15 & 15 bis, or by electrical welding points along axes 33 & 34 (Fig. 15 ter.) Which would dispense with the need for notches 23, 24 which would be replaced by tabs such as 25,25 bis.
One of the branches will be placed towards its end at the location of the articulation, so that the 2 end parts can penetrate inside the corresponding ones of the other branch, or, in contralto, alternate with they.
The stopper on closing will be made either on folded-over parts, and superimposed 26 (Fig. 12, 13 & I3bis) forming nipples similar to the nipples 8 of fig. I these studs in two thicknesses being able to be enveloped by the spring 6, the stop at the opening being done elsewhere, for example at 27 (Fig. 12.)
Fig. 13 gives a very rough picture of what the flâne 'to cut out would be.
Figure 15 bis shows the section of one of the branches to the right of a nipple.
It is also possible to make the opening stopper and the closing stopper between a rivet 37 fixed to one of the branches @ @ as shown in FIGS. 16 & 16 bis, and
<Desc / Clms Page number 10>
ends of a buttonhole 35 shaped on the other branch, the spring being arranged for example as shown at 6 '
Figure 16 bis is a section along A B of FIG. 16.
The rivet could be replaced as shown in Figure I7 by a bent part of one of the branches such as 28 moving in a buttonhole 35 a; the folded part can serve as a support for the opening spring 6 a, which would thus be well enveloped by the folded elements of the branches.
In all the variant embodiments, the closure stop may be made on the end of the branches opposite the articulation, parts designated by 36 & 36 'in FIG. 16, the distance of these points in the open position being that which corresponds to the required angular travel.
