<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

Clip for slates
This invention relates to a clip for fixing slates to metal frames. Its purpose is to provide it with a fastener ensuring the fixing of the slate and its maintenance in position, by means of a nail of the type of flat-head nails generally used for nailing slates on wooden supports, but it is essentially distinguishes from known fasteners by the fact that it secures the nail, relative to the metal support so as to prevent any lateral deviation.
For this purpose, the clip is constituted by a piece of thin sheet metal suitably folded back on itself dewlap to be able to spring and to be fixed by clamping on the iron of the frame and has, on its dorsal face, an eyelet, formed by stamping for example, and serving as a guide for the nail which passes through the slate and which is fixed on the iron of the framework by folding around it.
Under these conditions, the nail, or other flat-headed rod, @
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
crossing the slate is maintained in a position adjacent to the iron of the frame, without the possibility of displacement relative to the latter, by the eyelet of the clip fixed by pressure on the iron.
The attached drawing shows,. by way of example, a clip constructed according to the invention.
Figure 1 is a sectional view of the clip *
Figure S is a rear view and Figure 3 a plan view.
Figure 4 shows the cooperation of the clip with the rod or nail used for fixing the slate.
The clip a is formed by a sheet of copper, or of another suitable metal, folded into b so as to present a beak c making it spring. In the dorsal face d is formed an eyelet e obtained by cutting and pushing back the central part of the back of the clip.
This clip is used as shown in figure 4, in combination with a rod f of square or round section provided with a flat head g and filling the office of the ordinary nail used, for the fixing of the slates * - These slates i are placed in the usual way .on frame irons h, after having previously fixed, on the end of the wing of the iron (of an angle iron, for example) the clip a held in place by tightening the tab c making a spring. The holding in position of the slate i is then ensured by the passage of the rod f through the slate and into the eyelet e after which the end of this rod is folded in j around the iron h forming part of framing.
As it is easy to realize, under these conditions, the rod (or the nail) q is held against the structural iron h in two different places, on the one hand, by the end j curved around of the lower flange of the iron and, on the other hand, by the eyelet e of, the staple a, so bare the slate i is secured against any displacement- @
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
ment which could tend to move the rod f away from the vertical branch or upper branch of the iron h or to deflect this rod laterally along this iron. This results not only in great ease of placement and fixing, but also greater safety from the point of view of the solidity of the roof.
