"MACHINE AUTOMATIQUE A OUVRIR ET FENDRE LES PEAUX. ."

<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

"AUTOMATIC SKIN OPENING AND SPLITTING MACHINE." The object of the invention is an automatic machine for opening and splitting the skins, rabbit skins for example, and it is characterized by a control system which acts to move a conical half-mandrel away from a fixed half-mandrel. so thatß the skins having been previously placed on the two close-coupled half-mandrels, are opened by the movement of the mobile half-mandrel, then stretched to the. hand, after opening them, following a line going from top to bottom.
To replace the manual operation of chucks, applied in rudimentary machines, various mechanisms have been designed to allow faster work. In some-
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
Some of these devices, the driving of the movable part of the mandrel, for its opening, is obtained by a pinion acting on a rack, while the closing of the same movable part takes place under the action of a return spring . the present invention relates to a particularly robust control system and thanks to which the movements of the movable half-mandrel both for opening and for closing, are effected smoothly and flexibly
In principle, this system includes:
1 - A connecting rod wedged on a shaft carrying a drive wheel and a crank, one end of which is connected to the connecting rod, and the other end secured to the mobile half-mandrel,
2 - A device for driving the flywheel by an endless belt passing over a driving pulley and tensioned voluntarily to the Moven of a pulley moving under the action of a control pedal acting in both directions.
3 - A return by counterweight carried by the aforementioned flywheel which is wedged so as to leave, for its neutral position, an interval between the two half-mandrels. By way of example the practical realization of these improvements will be described with reference to the accompanying drawing in which:
Fig. 1 is a partial vertical and longitudinal section of the machine, this section passing through the axis of the mandrels ,.
Fig. 2 is a plan view of the machine .-- with parts in section.
Fig. 3 is a side view of the machine with cutaway parts,
Fig. 4 is a view of the transmission.
The machine comprises a hollow frame 1 on which is screwed by means of screws 3 a sleeve 2 making the section rectangular.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
In this sleeve slides a parallelepipedal part 4, also hollow which constitutes a carriage.
The sleeve 2 forms with the half-mandrel 5 fixed a single molten part. Similarly, the carriage 4 forms with the mobile half-mandrel @ a single molten part. The carriage 4 has at 7 a stop whose face is slightly in front of the contact face 61 of the mobile mandrel which, by stopping against the projection 8 of the frame, prevents the two half-mandrels from joining. perfectly so as to leave an interval in which a knife will be inserted with a view to slackening the skin mounted on the half-mandrels. A large and short cylinder 9, surmounted by a cap 10, passes through a circular opening 11 made in the man-ohon and is presented in a slideway 12 pierced in the upper part of the carriage.
This cylinder 9 is fixed to the sleeve per its cap by means of screws 13 and serves for two slots. It allows, if removed, the inspection and lubrication of the interior parts / and it limits the stroke of the movable sleeve in its movement away by serving as a stopper at one end of the slide 12.
Lubricating grooves 14 are provided in the body of the sleeve.
The back and forth movement of the movable half-mandrel is caused by the rotation alternately in one direction and in the other of a flywheel 15 which drives the shaft 16. This shaft carries a crank 17 which can constitute with it a .only forged part. This crank is articulated at 18 with the fork end of a connecting rod 19, the other end of which can oscillate around a shaft 20 integral with the carriage.
A loose belt 21 passes over the flywheel 15 and over a driving pulley 22. It is tensioned by a small pulley 23 rotating around the axis 24 and which is maneuvered by pressing the pedal 25 with the tip of the foot or with the next heel
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
that one wants to act on the steering wheel or. release it. To this end, the pedal 25 can rotate about the axis @ 25, thus driving a crank 27, one end of which is shaped like a forschette is articulated to a connecting rod 28. This connecting rod is in turn articulated at the end in the form of a fork. fork of another crank 39 keyed by the shaft 30.
This shaft 30 drives an arm 31 split onto it, and in the end of which the shaft 24 is engaged.
When the pulley 23 does not press on the belt, the flywheel returns to its initial position under the effect of a counterweight 32 which is screwed onto this flywheel.
