EMI2.1
Figure 1 : schéma' général de J.f installat1<fn'f .".;
Figure 2 : schéma partiel de l'inverseur fin de course.
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

"Mechanical installation for the control of bells"
The present invention relates to an installation for controlling bells, the aim of which is to allow the use of motors of the strictly minimum power necessary and capable of possibly allowing slipping of the belts without repercussions on the operation of the mechanism.
The invention consists in using a very high gear transmission between the motor and the bell and in reversing the direction of rotation of the motor by means of an inverter actuated by a device reproducing exactly the oscillations of the bell and not those of transmission. the invention is described below with reference to the figures of the appended drawing, which represent:

EMI2.1
Figure 1: general diagram of J.f installat1 <fn'f. ".;
Figure 2: partial diagram of the limit switch.
Considering these figures, the bell 1 is suspended as usual from a cross member 2 fixed on the suspension axis 3.
To facilitate movement and reduce the frictional vibration in the bell, axis 3 is mounted on ball bearings 4. A first large diameter pulley 5 is fixed to the cross member 2, connected by a belt 6. to a pulley of smaller diameter 7. This pulley 7 is wedged on the same intermediate shaft 8 as another pulley of larger diameter 9. The latter is finally controlled by belt 10 directly by the motor 11 which will be generally an electric motor of very low power. The operation of the device is such that the driving action is felt during the downward part of the oscillation of the bell, so that as a result of the slowing down of the bell in its upstroke, it is caught and struck by the clapper. at its highest point.
This operating mode has the effect of reducing the intensity of the strike of the clapper on the bell, and consequently the danger of cracking. The reversal of the movement is obtained as follows:
Against the pulley 5 is fixed a second grooved pulley 12 on which a cable 13 is wound, passing over the references 14 required by the arrangement of the installation, and the other end of which is wound on the rim 15 of a particular member, this rim 15 is the outer part of a kind of barrel enclosing a spiral spring 16 attached to a pin 17, in such a way that, by virtue of its elasticity and the support that it takes on this axis 17,
to keep the cable 13 taut particularly when the cable tends to be relaxed by the return of the bell. A weight 18 keeps a cable 19 stretched over the pulley 20 of the reverser and winding on the axis
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
17, so that lesmouvements of the pulley 12, that is to say of the bell 1, are faithfully reproduced by the cable 19 through the intermediary .du cable 13 and the barrel, spring 15-16. Consequently, this device is independent of any slipping of the transmission belts 6 and 10 and the reverser only operates when the bell reaches the point of its travel determined beforehand.
The inverter 21, which is shown in side view in Fig. 1, and in plan in Fig. 2, is any type of inverter in which a contact is moved as a result of the movement of the pulley 20 and makes the necessary connections to reverse. the direction of rotation of the motor and in accordance with the nature of the supply current of the latter.
This installation achieves the following advantages:
The bell rolling is smooth and quiet and decreases the bell reactions to the building. On the other hand, thanks to the very high gear ratio, it is possible to use a very low power motor which can possibly operate without a starter and which consumes very little current. The particular reversing device eliminates the drawbacks which could result from any slippage in the transmission. The transmission being done by belts and not by toothed wheels and chain, is notably simpler and less expensive.
The adjustment either of the winding diameter of the cable 19, on the axis 17, or of the diameter of the pulley 20 or of the diameter of the rim 15, makes it possible to give the oscillation of the bell - any amplitude that one longed for.
