<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

PORTHOUSE FOR LEISURE VEHICLES
The present invention relates to a window for recreational vehicles, in particular for motor homes, comprising a frame fixed in a wall of the vehicle and serving as a housing for a window pane.
These portholes, which are generally installed on the vertical walls of a motorhome, are most often made in a fixed version with either safety glass or double acrylic glazing.
Being stationary is a disadvantage in itself, especially in hot weather.
Admittedly, there are also portholes with projectable windows with opening towards the outside of the vehicle, the opening towards the inside not being achievable because of the obstruction and risks of accident. However, the opening of the window by projection towards the outside can only take place during the parking of the vehicle because, the window would risk being torn off or being at the origin of accidents so that the portholes to Projectable panes are even, for security reasons, prohibited in certain countries. In other words, despite an existing need, there are, to date, no motorhome portholes for traveling with windows open.
The aim of the present invention is to fill this gap and to provide a window for recreational vehicles, in particular for camper vans, which allows traveling with open windows, which is simple, which is not bulky and which is harmless, neither for the occupants of the vehicle, nor for others.
To achieve this objective, the invention proposes a porthole of the kind presented in the preamble and which is essentially characterized in that the frame comprises at least one part in the form of an arc of a circle and in that the pane comprises at least one sector. sliding corresponding to said part of the frame and capable of
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
pivot around an axis of rotation forming the center of said circular arc, the sliding sector being offset axially with respect to the rest of the glass and connected thereto by said axis of rotation.
It is therefore possible to open the window, at will, on a maximum surface corresponding to that of the sliding sector by simply pivoting it around its axis.
According to a preferred embodiment, a seal is arranged between the radial edges of the sliding sector or sectors and the rest of the window, this in order to ensure a certain thermal insulation between the exterior and the interior when the window is closed. This seal is preferably fixed on the edges of said rest of the glass and is in rubbing contact with the sliding sector or sectors. This joint can consist of a simple brush or a rubber profile.
The sliding sector is preferably provided with a lock cooperating with the frame in order to be able to lock this sliding sector in a determined position.
According to a preferred embodiment, the frame has a circular shape, while the sliding sector and the rest of the glass each have the shape of a semicircle.
Said rest of the glass is preferably fixed relative to the frame, but can also slide relative to the latter.
Other features and characteristics of the invention will emerge from the detailed description of a preferred embodiment presented below, by way of illustration, with reference to the appended drawings in which: FIG. 1 is a front view and from the outside of a window according to the present invention and
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
FIG. 2 represents a vertical section through the window of FIG. 1.
The porthole shown in the figures comprises a circular frame 10 consisting of an aluminum or plastic profile which is simply placed in a circular opening of a wall 12 of a motorhome with the interposition of a seal 14 The fixing is carried out, on the inside, by fixing lugs 15 screwed onto the profiled frame 10 and covered by a finishing cover 16 made of synthetic material. The assembly is therefore very simple and no longer involves screws or screw covers outside the bay.
In the embodiment shown, the window 18 is made in two parts, a fixed upper part 20 and a sliding lower part 22. Each of these parts has the shape of a semicircle. In the embodiment shown each of the two parts 20 and 22 is executed in acrylic double glazing but could also be executed in securit glazing.
The fixed upper part 20 is held in a groove in the profiled frame 10 by means of a seal 24. The pivoting sector 22 is guided in a profiled seal 26 also housed in a groove in the profiled frame 10.
The sliding sector 22 is connected to the fixed sector by means of a rotation axis 28 disposed in the center of the window and allowing the sector 22 to be pivoted around this center of rotation 28. To allow the mounting and sliding of the sector 22 this must, of course, be offset axially relative to the fixed part 22 which is preferably on the outside, while the pivoting sector is on the inside of the motorhome.
To avoid the penetration of water through the space between the two sectors 20 and 22 the fixed part 20 is
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
located in the upper part of the window, while the pivoting sector 22 is arranged in the lower part, when it is in the closed position.
To ensure, in the closed position of the window, a certain thermal insulation between the exterior and the interior and to avoid the penetration of insects or dirt through the space between the fixed part 20 and the sliding sector 22 this space is closed by a gasket 30. This gasket 30 which may be in the form of a brush or a rubber profile is fixed to a gasket holder 32 engaged on the diametrical edge of the fixed sector 20.
To prevent the porthole from being able to be opened from the outside, the pivoting sector 22 is provided along its diametrical edge with a lock 34 which makes it possible to lock the position of the pivoting sector 22, in the closed position, relative to the frame 10 for example using a sliding bolt 36 which can be actuated manually against the action of a spring and cooperating with a notch 38 provided in the frame 10. This same lock 34 could also be used to block the pivoting sector 22 in different opening positions, providing in frame 10 suitable notches for the penetration of the bolt of the lock 34.
The embodiment described above with reference to the figures is only an exemplary embodiment and may be subject to numerous variants. Thus, for example, instead of providing a fixed half and a sliding half, the two halves could be designed to slide, which would allow the opening position to be moved from the lower part to the lateral or upper half of the window. .
Instead of providing the sliding sector in the form of a semicircle, one could also consider the
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
presence of two sectors each having the shape of a quarter of a circle.
The invention is also not limited to a circular window. The porthole could for example have the shape of a semicircle with two window frames, one being fixed, the other being sliding.
In general, the window can have any shape, provided that its frame comprises at least one part in the form of an arc of a circle for housing a pivoting sector of the window which is connected to the rest of the window by an axis of rotation. In the extreme, the porthole could even form the door of a motorhome, one of the corners of this door being designed in the shape of an arc of a circle for housing and sliding a pivoting sector of a window.
