<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

ANTI-DRIP NOZZLE FOR PACKAGING UNIT
OF A FLUID BEHAVIOR
The present invention closes with an anti-drip nozzle for a metering unit for packaging a product with fluid behavior.
It is known to use metering units of the volumetric type for filling and packaging a product with fluid behavior in containers which are transferred one after the other below a dispensing nozzle of the unit. dispenser for filling.
Submerged nozzles are known which avoid drips, but which undoubtedly represent an element of slowing down the process of filling the containers, requiring an introduction phase and an extraction phase of each individual container.
There are also known nozzles which flow above the mouth or opening of the container, provided inside with a plurality of small holes allowing, once the thrust due to the distribution of the product supplied to be terminated, retain the liquid, avoiding drops due to a phenomenon of surface tension with the formation of what is called a meniscus. Such nozzles, if they prevent drops on the one hand, on the other hand slow down the filling process by presenting a useful cross-section of product passage which is reduced and constituted solely by the sum of the surfaces of individual holes.
This phenomenon is especially highlighted if the container to be filled has a relatively small inlet opening, such as that of a bottle or a container of this type.
The object of the present invention is to provide a drip-free nozzle for a dosing unit which allows a high conditioning and filling speed, without having to be introduced into the container and without it being of complicated and costly construction, like the nozzles. known submerged, and without the long filling time like that of the meniscus effect nozzles mentioned above.
This object of the invention. and others, are achieved by means of an anti-drip nozzle for a metering unit for packaging a fluid behavior product, of the type which can be removably positioned below the metering unit and which distributes the product. above the mouth of a container to be filled, characterized in that it is constituted by a hollow body, provided with an inlet hole which can be aligned, with a lower distribution opening constituted in unity do-

threshold, and an outlet hole which can be aligned above the mouth of the container to be filled, a shutter element of the outlet hole being arranged in the hollow body,
the shutter element being held in the normally closed position by a pushing element and capable of being moved into the open position by the pressure of the product each time it is sent to the interior of the hollow body by the metering unit.
The operating and structural characteristics, and the advantages of a nozzle according to the invention, will be better understood on reading the description which follows, which is given by way of example and without character.

tion of the container.
Referring to the figures, there is shown, at least in part, a metering unit, indicated as a whole at 11, which sucks a product with fluid behavior 12 from a supply container 13 and discharges it inwards. of a cylinder 14 of a pumping unit in which a movable piston 15 is mounted.
A closing element, indicated as a whole at 16, is of the rotary type and acts as a tap which selectively intercepts and connects the supply line 13 to the cylinder 14 or to a chamber 17 in axial alignment with said cylinder 14 and arranged in the lower part of the body 18 of the metering unit 11. To this end, an internal bent channel 19 which connects during the aspiration phase of the product to be conditioned the supply line 13 with the cylinder 14, and another channel 20

which connects the cylinder 14 to a nozzle, constituted according to the invention and indicated as a whole at 21, during the phase of dispensing the product in an underlying container (not shown), are formed in the rotary closure element 16 .
The nozzle 21 is constituted by an external hollow body 22, formed, for example, in two halves and disposed in the body 18. of the metering unit 11 in correspondence with a bore 23 of an outlet opening 24 of

chamber 17 of the metering unit.
The hollow body 22, fixed for example by screwing in the bore 23, comprises a through entry hole 25, for example of circular section, which can be aligned with the opening 24 and with the chamber 17 of the body 18, as well as with the other channel 20 of the closing element 16, when the latter is arranged so as to connect the cylinder 14 to the nozzle 21.
The hollow body 22 is further provided with an outlet hole 26, for example of circular cross section, which can be aligned above the mouth of a container (not shown) to be filled.
Inside the hollow body 22 is disposed a shutter element 27 intended for the outlet hole 26 and which is normally maintained in the closed position inside the outlet hole 26. by a pushing element, constituted for example by a spring 28. The shutter element 27 can be moved axially and brought to an open position by the pressure of the product 12 each time it is introduced into the hollow body 22 of the metering unit 11 passing through the element 16.
More specifically, in the example shown, a closed chamber connected to the outside of the hollow body 21 by a vent pipe 29 is formed inside the hollow body 22. The chamber comprises a bell-shaped portion 30, into which the vent pipe 29 opens, which is closed by a flexible membrane 31 constituting a wall part of this chamber.
The membrane 31 forming the wall supports the shutter element 27, which is of substantially cylindrical shape and arranged perpendicular-
EMI3.2
ment to the membrane and whose axis is coaxial with the axis of the bell-shaped part 30.
The bell-shaped part 30 and the membrane 31 are placed above one. annular flange 32 used both for centering and for supporting them relative to the hollow body 22 of the nozzle 21.
The annular flange 32 is in fact provided with radial elements or ribs 33, turned radially inwards and supporting a bushing 34 inside which the shutter element 27 can rotate freely and move axially, while in Correspondence of the internal end of the bell-shaped part 30 is constituted by a blind hole 35 in which is received, in rotation and movably in the axial direction, a shank 36 extending coaxially with the obturating element 27.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
The tail 36 also collaborates as a means of centering the spring 28, keeping it in position so that it acts between the membrane 31, with the interposition of a thrust washer 37 held by a pressure nut 38, and the internal end of the bell-shaped part 30 which is provided with a cylindrical projection 39 in the form of a

chon where is the blind hole 35. Thus, the spring 28 is held, at one end, by the pressure nut 38 and, at the other end, by the cylindrical projection in the form of a sleeve 39.
An anti-drip nozzle intended for a metering unit according to the present invention is therefore of simple construction and functions perfectly.

In fact, during the operation of the metering unit 11, when the rotary closure element 16 is positioned so that its second channel 20 is in axial alignment with the cylinder 14 and with the inlet hole 25 of the nozzle. 21, and when the piston 1. 5 is moved down

in the direction of the arrow. 40, the product 12 enters the hollow body 22 of the nozzle 21.
The pressure of the product 12 acts on the membrane
31 and, compressing the spring 2S, withdraws the sealing element 27 from the outlet hole 26, allowing the product 12 to exit in the direction of the underlying container (not shown).
When the descent of the piston 15 is complete, the closing element 16 is turned to 90, so that the connection between the cylinder
14 and the nozzle 21 is interrupted and that the aspiration of the product 12 in the supply line 13 is authorized by the intermediary of the bent channel 19.
A residual quantity of product 12 remains in the chamber 17 closed by the shutter element 27 which is pushed back by the spring 28 so as to close the outlet hole 26. The movement of the membrane
31 is possible due to the presence of line 29 which allows
The exhaust of the air contained in the chamber formed by the membrane
31 and by the bell-shaped part 30.
The advantage of a nozzle according to the present invention is that at the moment when the pressure caused by the product discharged by the piston 15 ends, the nozzle 21, or better the outlet hole 26, is closed by remote control. shutter 27 without the slightest drop formation.
An anti-drip nozzle according to the present invention is, as can be easily seen, of relatively simple construction and guarantees,

thanks to the dimensions of the outlet hole 26, a passage section of the product thanks to the product is well suited during the distribution phase. At the same time, the distribution of the product is thus allowed by the dosing unit directly above the mouth of the containers, making the filling time minimal.
