Description

Composition of Chinese traditional medicine for the prevention of transport stress
in sheep
TECHNICAL FIELD
The invention belongs to the technical field of veterinary drugs, and particularly relates to
a traditional Chinese medicine composition for preventing sheep transportation stress.
BACKGROUND
During the sheep breeding, breeders have to purchases sheep from other places in pursuit
of good breeding of meat sheep. Sheep procured may experience various transportation
stress symptoms, including colds, coughs, runny nose, watery eyes, skipping food, rotten
mouth, and dysentery after long-distance transportation, environmental and feeding
management changes, etc. There is a high risk of mass casualties if sheep with such
symptoms were not treated in a timely manner, which may further result in large
economic losses to the sheep farmer. Currently, there are drugs available in the market to
treat the symptoms of transport stress in sheep, but even if the symptoms of transport
stress are treated, the growth and development of sheep are already affected to a certain
extent.
At present, the common prevention and treatment measures for transportation stress are to
buffer the transportation stress reaction with sedative and tranquilizing chemicals, but the
use of chemicals can easily cause drug residues and damage to the stomach, kidney, liver
and other viscera of sheep, which is not conducive to the growth of sheep.

medicines with strong fire, then boil with slow fire after decoction, and pour out the
liquid medicine; Then concentrating the liquid medicine into a paste and carrying out
alcohol precipitation, recover the ethanol in the filtrate after finish, then perform
concentration and spray drying on the rest liquid mixture to obtain dry powder;
(3) Weigh Rhizome of Swordlike Atractylodes, Radix Paeoniae Rubra, Herba
Pogostemonis, mentholum and Folium Isatidis to mix and grind into powder, soak the
obtained medicine powder in water, then filter to obtain liquid medicine;
(4) Mix the medicine powder obtained in the step (1) with the dry powder obtained in the
step (2), and add with the liquid medicine obtained in the step (3), stir the mixture before
