  Verfahren zur Herstellung von Zelluloseverbindungen.

   Die Erfindung betrifft ein Verfahren zur Herstellung neuer Zelluloseverbindungen. Es hat sich gezeigt, dass beim Zuzammenbringen von merzerisierter Zellulose mit Chloressigsäure oder   Halogenpropionsäure   oder Homologen dieser Säuren in Gegenwart von   Ätzalkalien   neue Zelluloseverbindungen der genannten, organischen Säuren erhalten werden, deren Alkaliund Amoniaksalze sich in kaltem und heissem Wasser unter Quellung zu einer klaren, viskosen Flüssigkeit leicht lösen, dagegen unlöslich sind in Alkohol, Azeton, Äther,   Benzol ;

  Process for the production of cellulosic compounds.

   The invention relates to a method for producing new cellulose compounds. It has been shown that when mercerized cellulose is brought together with chloroacetic acid or halopropionic acid or homologues of these acids in the presence of caustic alkalis, new cellulose compounds of the organic acids mentioned are obtained, the alkali and ammonia salts of which swell in cold and hot water to form a clear, viscous liquid easily dissolve, but are insoluble in alcohol, acetone, ether, benzene;
When evaporating, the aqueous solutions leave behind skins of a solid nature, which resemble those of glue or

   Resemble gelatine and are difficult to burn. they can be used as a gelatine substitute,
Example: 200 g air-dry, mercerized cellulose are moistened with 100 g 2opta sodium hydroxide solution and left to stand for two hours.

   Then the sodium salt of this acid, corresponding to 345 g of monochloroacetic acid, suspended in 400% alcohol, is stirred in and the mixture is stirred for a further hour. kneaded. Samples are then taken and tested for complete water solubility.

   As soon as this point is reached, the lye is pressed out and freed from salts and alkalis by washing with dilute alcohol of about 90% and neutralizing.

   The product obtained looks like the starting material, it dissolves clearly in cold and hot water, with which it forms viscous solutions: that of the sodium salt produced in this way, the new. Cellulosic compound of monochloroacetic acid, which can be produced by treatment with stronger acids, forms the only cellulosic, white, fibrous product that is insoluble in cold and hot water, but easily soluble in alkalis.

   With the metal oxides of copper, lead and aluminum, the acid forms insoluble salts in water.
