In den letzten Jahren haben sich wiederholt folgenschwere Explosionen in städtischen Abwasserkanälen ereignet, durch die nicht nur Kanäle auf weite Strecken zerstört, Fondern auch Menschenleben vernichtet worden sind. Als Ursache dieser Explosionen ist in allen Fällen das Eindringen von leicht entzündbaren Flüssigkeiten. insbesondere Benzin, in das Kanainetz festgestellt worden. Mit dem Verbrauch solcher Flüssigkeiten in chemischen Wäschereien. Automobilgaragen und dgl. hat auch die Gefahr von Explosionen in den Abwasserkanälen so zugenommen. dass die Sicherung des Kanalnetzes gegen das Eindringen von Benzin und dgl. dringend gefordert werden muss.
