Odor trapping with a ventilation pipe preventing emptying.
Odor traps are known in which the two legs are connected by a ventilation pipe which is intended to prevent the closure from being emptied in the event of a suction effect occurring in the downpipe of the sewer pipe or the like. The previous devices of this type have the disadvantage that the ventilation pipe connected on the one hand to the inlet pipe and on the other hand to the highest point of the outlet pipe of the closure opens into the inlet pipe very deep below the highest water level that is possible in the odor trap, that the liquid the odor trap can be completely or largely sucked out of the cap in the event of a suddenly occurring strong suction effect before the ventilation pipe takes effect, so that the device serves its purpose of preventing the cap from being emptied,
only very imperfectly fulfilled. According to the invention, this disadvantage is eliminated in a simple manner in that the end of the ventilation pipe opening into the inlet pipe of the closure is only slightly below the highest liquid level of the closure. In the event of a suction effect, the liquid level in the odor trap only drops very slightly, because the opening of the ventilation pipe located under the liquid is then exposed, and only air is then sucked in via the drain pipe. This ensures that a larger amount of the liquid can never be sucked off.
In the drawing, an odor trap equipped with the device according to the invention is illustrated schematically in section with part of the downpipe.
1 is the downpipe of a sewer pipe, which is connected by a drain pipe 2 to the individual odor traps 3, the inlet pipe 4 of which, depending on the system in question, carries the pouring shell (sink or the like) for the waste water. According to the invention, the ventilation pipe 5 protrudes into the inlet pipe 4 of the closure and its mouth is located a little below the highest possible liquid level 6 in the odor trap determined by the horizontal part of the pipe 2. The pipe 5 leads to the outside through the closure 3 and opens with its second end into the drain pipe 2.
If there is a strong suction effect in this due to the water flowing off in the downpipe 1, the connection created by the pipe 5 prevents the closure 3 from being emptied, since the liquid level in the closure only drops to the mouth of the pipe 5 in the pipe 4 and then only Air is sucked in through the pipe 2.
