Description
<Desc/Clms Page number 1>

<Desc / Clms Page number 1>
Process for the preparation of a dimethylphenylbenzylammonium disulfonic acid.
It has been found that dimethylphenylbenzylammonium disulfonic acid, which is very valuable for printing purposes, is formed when halomethyl or dimethyl sulfate is allowed to act on methylbenzylbenzyl disulfonic acid, which is obtained by sulfurizing methylbenzylaniline according to the method of D. R. P. No. 69777.
It is known that ammonium compounds can be obtained from tertiary bases and haloalkylenes. However, this process fails even with amines of very low basicity. In the present case, the basic properties have disappeared altogether due to the two sulfo groups. The feasibility of the procedure could not be foreseen.
Example: A solution of 400 parts of the neutral sodium salt of methylbenzylaniline disulfonic acid, which is obtained by sulfurizing methylbenzylaniline, is used
