Process for the production of easily ignitable candle wicks.

The subject of the present invention is a new process to make candles made of stearin, wax, paraffin or any other material more easily ignitable by suitable impregnation of the free outer wick ends. The aim here is to remedy the well-known problem that the new candles are difficult to ignite. The new method differs from the proposals previously made in this regard, e.g.

   B. the impregnation of such wicks with oxygen-rich substances, such as saltpeter, potassium chlorate, or with highly flammable substances, such as sulfur 11. without when burning
 EMI1.1

According to the method of this invention, the wicks to be used are soaked at their outer free ends, which are not to be embedded in the candle substance, by immersion or in any other suitable manner with a solution of celluloid in acetone. Since the solvent acetone is quite volatile, a short one is sufficient.

Drying out in the air in order to obtain a firmly adhering celluloid coating on the cotton fiber of the wick, which due to the extremely easy inflammability of this substance is sufficient to quickly remove the soaked wicks when they come into contact with a burning match
 EMI1.2

The new process is very cheap for factory operation, since the evaporating acetone can easily be recovered and used again to dissolve celluloid for the same purpose.

The celluloid coating produced in the manner indicated on the cotton fiber of the wick is very thin; In addition, with the natural elasticity of cotton, there is no danger that the wicks prepared in this way could ignite due to pressure or impact. The processing of the wicks produced according to the present process into candles takes place in the generally accepted manner.
