Process for the preparation of a blue-green vat dye of the perylene series.
The invention relates to a process for the preparation of a blue-green vat dye of the perylene series.
It is known that treating 1'12 dibenzoyldioxyperylene with anhydrous aluminum chloride in the presence of oxidizing agents, such as manganese dioxide, gives a vat dye that turns green from a blue vat of cotton. A similar product is obtained in a similar manner by fusing perylene l 2 quinone with benzoyl chloride and anhydrous aluminum chloride. Such a reaction product serves as a starting material for the present process.
Surprisingly, it has been shown that this product is improved in an outstanding manner when treated with alkylating agents under certain conditions.
The colorations with the new product are characterized by the great luminosity of the shade and have excellent fastness properties.
Example: One part by weight of the green dye obtained by the above process is mixed with 30 parts by weight of nitrobenzene to form a fine paste and four parts of anhydrous potassium carbonate and three parts of dimethyl sulfate are added to the suspension.
The mixture is heated to 80-90 ° C., the color of the reaction liquid gradually changing from brown-violet through violet to blue-green. After 2-21 / 2 hours of action, the process is ended, and either after destroying the unchanged dimethyl sulfate, the nitrobenzene is blown off with steam or alcohol is added and the mixture is filtered. washes with alcohol and water.
When dry, the dye is a dark blue-green powder which dissolves in concentrated sulfuric acid with a red-violet color. With dilute caustic soda and sodium hydrosulfite, the dye gives a deep blue and red fluorescent vat from which cotton grows blue; the color changes to a bright blue-green in the air.
In high-boiling solvents such as nitrobenzene, α-chloronaphthalene and the like. the dye partially dissolves, the solutions are blue and have red fluorescence.
