Verfahren zur Gewinnung von Kalium aus Kaliumfluorid.
Es wurde gefunden, dass sich Kalium aus Fluorkalium mit Hilfe von Magnesium gewinnen lässt.
Dieses Verfahren bietet ganz erhebliche technische Vorteile, da die Reaktion schon bei etwa 500 C beginnt und sich bei eben beginnender Rotglut glatt und mit guter Ausbeute zu Ende führen lässt. Zweckmässig arbeitet man in einer indifferenten Atmosphäre oder noch besser bei vermindertem Druck ; als Gefässmaterial ist Eisen geeignet. Das auf diese Weise gewonnene Kalium ist sehr rein. Der Reaktionsrückstand kann in bekannter Weise auf reines Magnesiumfluorid oder auf Flusssäure und Magnesiumsalze auf- gearbeitet werden.
Beispiel.
Ein Gemisch von 90 g scharf getrocknetem Kaliumflorid und 18 g Magnesiumgriess wird in einer eisernen Retorte bei 11 mm Druck auf 500-700 C erhitzt. Von 540 C an destilliert das Kalium über und wird in Form von Kugeln in der mit Paraffinöl beschickten Vorlage aufgefangen. Die Ausbeute an Kalium beträgt 48 g ; es enthält nur kaum nachweisbar Spuren von Magnesium.

It has been found that potassium can be obtained from potassium fluoride with the help of magnesium.
This process offers considerable technical advantages, since the reaction starts at around 500 C and can be completed smoothly and with good yield when the red heat just begins. It is advisable to work in an indifferent atmosphere or, even better, at reduced pressure; Iron is suitable as a vessel material. The potassium obtained in this way is very pure. The reaction residue can be worked up in a known manner on pure magnesium fluoride or on hydrofluoric acid and magnesium salts.
Example.
A mixture of 90 g of sharply dried potassium fluoride and 18 g of magnesium semolina is heated to 500-700 ° C. in an iron retort at a pressure of 11 mm.
