Estergruppen in Tropinon überführt.

Process for the preparation of tropinone monocarboxylic acid esters.
In the # Journal of the Chemical Society "Volume 111/112, (1917), p. 762 et seq., Robert Robinson has described a process for the preparation of tropinone. It consists in that succinic dialdehyde is mixed with salts or parents of the Aeetondicarboxylic acid and condensed with methylamine and the reaction products are converted into tropinone by splitting off the carboxyl or ester groups.
The transition to tropinone monocarboxylic acid esters, which are known to be of considerable industrial importance, encounters difficulties after the process mentioned, insofar as the pure preparation of monocarboxylic acid esters through the formation of tropinone as a by-product is difficult to carry out industrially.
The new and important observation has now been made that tropinone monocarboxylic acid esters are obtained when starting from acetone dicarboxylic acid and condensing its salts with succinic dialdehyde and methylamine. The condensation product splits off carbonic acid very easily and gives tropinone monoarboxylic acid ester according to the reaction equation:

Example: According to Harries, Ber. 34 1 [1901], p. 1494, an approximately 10% solution of
