Process for the manufacture of vinyl fluoride The manufacture of vinyl fluoride
from acetylene and hydrogen fluoride, apart from the difficulty that it prepares
To get both substances to react at all takes special effort because
a complete implementation of the acetylene cannot be achieved and the boiling points
of acetylene and vinyl fluoride are so close together that the vinyl fluoride
from which acetylene is difficult to separate.
It has now been found that vinyl fluoride is technically more advantageous
Way, if you add hydrogen fluoride to vinyl chloride and from the so
obtained fluorochloroethane splits off hydrogen chloride. The accumulation of hydrogen fluoride
of vinyl chloride is easy and can be carried out with good yield if with an excess
is carried out on hydrogen fluoride at moderate pressure. This is the vinyl chloride
about 7o% in fluorochloroethane and 20% in an oil. The recovery
of the unreacted vinyl chloride and the separation of the reaction products is quantitative
possible. The fluorochloroethane can now be briefly heated to higher temperatures,
z. B. by passing through a pipe in weak red heat or by treating with
Alkali, expediently alcoholic alkali, under pressure at slightly increased
Temperature can be split off hydrogen chloride. Depending on your choice
the
Conditions will be 5o to 70 °% of the fluorochloroethane in vinyl fluoride and only one
a small part converted into vinyl chloride, while about 10 to 20 per cent. unchanged
stay. The reaction products can easily be separated by distillation.
It is known that by adding hydrogen chloride to vinyl chloride
in the presence of aluminum chloride or ferric chloride, ethylidene chloride is obtained. the end
This as well as from ethylene chloride can be known by heating to higher
Temperatures, e.g. B. by passing the vapors through red-hot pipes or by treating
Produce vinyl chloride with aqueous-alcoholic alkali lye. It is also known
that you can get from i-dichloro-2-chlorodifluoroethane by treatment with alcoholic alkali
i-dichloro-2-difluoroethylene can be obtained. Those known reactions left, however
no conclusion to the method according to the present invention, as is known
between the behavior of fluorine and chlorine towards organic compounds and
also the behavior of organic fluorine compounds and organic chlorine compounds
there are considerable differences. This is also evident in the present case, for example
already in the fact that one energetic for the addition of hydrogen chloride to vinyl chloride
Conditions, e.g. B. Use of higher temperatures or strong catalysts required,
while hydrogen fluoride can be converted to vinyl chloride without the use of such auxiliaries
can accumulate. It is also surprising that when using hydrogen halide
Measures on the fluorochloroethane essentially only produce hydrogen chloride

could not provide any clue as to that reaction from the strong with
Halogen-laden i-dichloro-2-chlorodifluorethane is assumed and is known
an accumulation of halogen atoms significantly affects the behavior of organic compounds

15 Atm. steigt. Der Autoklavinhalt wird über eine Natronlaugenwäsche entspannt.
Man erhält g kg Fluorchloräthan (Kp78o = i6°).
Example In an autoclave 5 kg of hydrogen fluoride and 10 kg
Vinyl chloride with heating q. Stirred to 5 hours, the pressure being down to zo to
15 atm. increases. The contents of the autoclave are depressurized by washing with sodium hydroxide solution.
One receives g kg of fluorochloroethane (Kp78o = 16 °). The fluorochloroethane is with a
Speed of 1 m / sec passed through a tube made of chrome-nickel steel, in its
first half the gas is heated to 500 ° and in the second half about 6oo °

emerging vapors are rapidly cooled and the acid that is split off is removed.
Then the vapors are dried and condensed. You win by distillation
from the condensate 3 kg of vinyl fluoride and about 1 kg of vinyl chloride.
