Abstract

Método para producir el polipéptido, una planta transgénica, una composicion farmacéutica que comprende un polipéptido antimicrobiano tal como el definido. Reivindicacion 1: Un polipéptido que tiene actividad antimicrobiana, seleccionado del grupo que consiste en: (a) un polipéptido que comprende la secuencia de amino ácido de SEC ID NO:1: Gly-Phe-Gly-Cys-Asn-Gly-Pro-Trp-Ser-Glu-Asp-Asp-Leu-Xaa-Cys-His-Xaa-His-Cys-Lys-Ser-Ile-Lys-Gly -Tyr-Xaa-Gly-Gly-Tyr-Cys-Ala-Lys-Gly-Gly-Phe-Xaa-Cys-Lys-Cys-Tyr; donde Xaa en la posicion 14 es Arg o Lys; Xaa en la posicion 17 es Asn o Arg; Xaa en la posicion 26 es Arg o Lys; Xaa en la posicion 36 es Val o Leu; y (b) un fragmento (a) que tiene actividad antimicrobiana. Reivindicacion 16: Un método para matar o inhibir el crecimiento de células microbianas que comprende poner en contacto las células microbianas con un polipéptido antimicrobiano tal como se definio en cualquiera de las reivindicaciones 1-5. Reivindicacion 17: Un método para el tratamiento de una infeccion microbiana que comprende administrar a un ser humano o a un animal un polipéptido de cualquiera de las reivindicaciones 1-5 en una cantidad eficaz para tratar la infeccion microbiana.
