본 발명은 전고체 전지용 양극 및 이를 포함하는 전고체 전지에 관한 것으로, 집전체; 상기 집전체 상에 양극 활물질층을 포함하고, 상기 양극 활물질층은 양극 활물질, 화학식 1의 고체 전해질 및 바인더를 더 포함하고, 상기 양극 활물질은 양극의 기공도를 감소시키고, 이온 전도도 및 전기 전도도를 향상시킬 수 있는 효과를 갖는다. [화학식 1] LiaPbScCldXe 상기 화학식 1에서, 4≤a≤7, 0≤b≤1, 3≤c≤5, 0≤d<0.3 및 d<e≤3이고, X는 Br 또는 I이다.

Description

전고체 전지용 양극 및 이를 포함하는 전고체 전지
본 출원은 2024년 7월 26일자 한국 특허출원 제10-2024-0099100호에 기초한 우선권의 이익을 주장하며, 해당 한국 특허 출원의 문헌에 개시된 모든 내용을 본 명세서의 일부로서 포함한다.
본 발명은 전고체 전지용 양극 및 이를 포함하는 전고체 전지에 관한 것이다.
리튬 이차전지는 IT 모바일 기기를 비롯한 휴대용 기기의 전원으로 폭넓게 사용되고 있으며, 최근에는 소형 리튬 이차전지에서 중대형 이차전지로 시장이 본격적으로 성장하고 있다. 특히 자동차용 전지로서의 사용이 급격히 증가하고 있는 추세이다. 리튬 이차전지가 전기 자동차의 전원으로 사용하기 위해서는 높은 에너지 밀도와 고출력 특성이 요구되며, 특히 안전성의 확보가 중요시되고 있다.
기존 리튬 이차전지는 액체 상태의 비수계 유기 전해질을 사용하고 있으며, 이는 발화와 폭발의 위험성을 가지고 있다. 실제로 이를 적용한 제품의 폭발 사고가 지속적으로 발생하고 있기 때문에 이러한 문제점을 해결하는 것이 시급하다.
전고체 전지는 이러한 유기 전해질을 고체 전해질로 대체한 것으로 전극 및 전해질 등 전지의 구성요소가 모두 고체로 이루어진 전지로서, 수용하고 있는 고체 전해질 자체의 높은 안전성에 기인하여 발화 및 폭발의 위험성을 원천적으로 해결하는 것이 가능하다.
전고체 리튬 이온 이차전지의 고체 전해질로 사용되고 있는 후보로는 겔 타입의 폴리머 전해질, 황화물계 고체 전해질, 산화물계 고체 전해질 등이 있는데 그 중에서도 황화물계 고체 전해질은 1X10-2 S/cm 이상의 높은 리튬 이온 전도도의 값을 보이며, 5V 이상의 넓은 전위 창을 가지고 있어 극한 환경에서도 특성의 열화가 적으며, 고에너지 밀도의 리튬 이온 이차전지 설계에도 큰 이점을 가지고 있다.
전고체 전지는 고체 전해질을 사용하므로 전고체 전지의 양극 활물질층은 리튬 이온 전도 경로를 위하여 고체 전해질을 포함해야 한다. 따라서, 전고체 전지에서 양극 활물질층은 양극 활물질, 바인더 및 고체 전해질을 포함한다. 전고체 전지의 양극의 기공도 감소, 이온 전도도 개선 및 전기 전도도를 개선하고, 전고체 전지의 에너지 밀도를 개선하기 위해서는 양극 활물질층에 포함되는 고체 전해질의 구조 등을 개선해야 하며, 이에 대한 연구가 필요한 실정이다.

상기 목적을 달성하기 위하여,

본 발명의 전고체 전지용 양극은 브롬 또는 요오드가 과량으로 포함된 고체 전해질을 포함함에 따라, 양극의 기공도를 감소시키고, 양극의 이온 전도도 및 전기 전도도를 향상시킬 수 있다.
또한, 본 발명의 양극을 포함하는 전고체 전지는 에너지 밀도가 우수한 효과를 가질 수 있다.

이하, 본 발명을 보다 자세히 설명한다.
전고체 전지는 액체 상태의 전해질 대신 고체 전해질을 사용하는 것으로, 리튬 이온의 전도 경로를 확보하기 위해서 양극 활물질층은 고체 전해질을 포함한다. 본 발명에서는 양극 활물질층에 포함되는 고체 전해질을 개선하여 기공도가 낮고, 이온 전도도 및 전기 전도도가 향상된 전고체 전지용 양극을 제공하고자 하였다.
전고체 전지용 양극
본 발명은 집전체; 및 상기 집전체 상에 위치하는 양극 활물질층;을 포함하는 전고체 전지용 양극에 관한 것으로, 상기 양극 활물질층은 양극 활물질, 하기 화학식 1의 고체 전해질 및 바인더를 포함하는 것일 수 있다.

상기 화학식 1에서,
4≤a≤7, 0≤b≤1, 3≤z≤5, 0≤d<0.3 및 d<e≤3이고,
X는 Br 또는 I이다.
따라서, 상기 화학식 1의 고체 전해질은 LiaPbScCldBre 또는 LiaPbScCldIe 일 수 있다.
상기 화학식 1에서 d는 0≤d<0.3이며, 바람직하게는 0<d<0.3일 수 있다.
또한, 상기 화학식 1에서 e는 d<e≤3이며, e≥7d일 수 있다. 상기 e≥7d일 경우 d는 0이 아니다. 상기 화학식 1에서 d<e≤3 및 e≥7d임에 따라 상기 화학식 1에서 X는 과량으로 포함되는 것일 수 있다. 상기 화학식 1에서 X가 과량으로 포함됨에 따라 상기 화학식 1의 고체 전해질과 양극 활물질의 접촉 면적이 증가하여 양극의 이온 전도도 및 전기 전도도 개선 효과를 얻을 수 있으며, 그에 따라 상기 양극을 포함하는 전고체 전지는 향상된 에너지 밀도를 얻을 수 있다.
따라서, 전고체 전지용 양극의 낮은 기공도를 확보할 수 있으며, 이온 전도도 및 전기 전도도를 향상시킬 수 있다. 만약, 상기 e가 e≤d이거나, e<7d이면 X가 과량으로 포함된 것이 아니므로 상기 효과를 얻을 수 없다. 또한, 상기 e는 바람직하게는 0.5≤e≤3, 가장 바람직하게는 0.5≤e≤1.5일 수 있다.
상기 화학식 1의 고체 전해질은 양극 활물질층 총 중량에 대하여 3 내지 30 중량%로 포함될 수 있다. 구체적으로, 상기 화학식 1의 고체 전해질의 함량은 3 중량% 이상, 5 중량% 이상, 7 중량% 이상 또는 10 중량% 이상일 수 있고, 30 중량% 이하, 25 중량% 이하, 20 중량% 이하 또는 10 중량% 이하일 수 있다. 상기 화학식 1의 고체 전해질의 함량이 3 중량% 미만이면 양극의 이온 전도도 및 전기 전도도 향상 효과가 미미할 수 있고, 30 중량%를 초과하면 양극 활물질 및 바인더의 함량이 상대적으로 감소하여 전지 성능이 저하될 수 있다.
상기 양극 활물질은 전고체 전지의 종류에 따라 달라질 수 있다. 예를 들어, 상기 양극 활물질은 리튬 코발트 산화물(LiCoO2), 리튬 니켈 산화물(LiNiO2) 등의 층상 화합물이나 1 또는 그 이상의 전이금속으로 치환된 화합물; 화학식 Li1+xMn2-xO4(0≤x≤0.33), LiMnO3, LiMn2O3, LiMnO2 등의 리튬 망간 산화물; 리튬 구리 산화물(Li2CuO2); LiV3O8, V2O5, Cu2V2O7 등의 바나듐 산화물; 화학식 LiNi1-xMxO2(M = Co, Mn, Al, Cu, Fe, Mg, B 또는 Ga; 0.01≤x≤0.3)으로 표현되는 Ni 사이트형 리튬 니켈 산화물; 화학식 LiMn2-xMxO2(M = Co, Ni, Fe, Cr, Zn 또는 Ta; 0.01≤x≤0.1) 또는 Li2Mn3MO8 (M = Fe, Co, Ni, Cu 또는 Zn 임)으로 표현되는 리튬 망간 복합 산화물; LiNixMn2-xO4로 표현되는 스피넬 구조의 리튬 망간 복합 산화물; LiCoPO4; LiFePO4; 황 원소(Elemental sulfur, S8); Li2Sn(n≥1), 유기황 화합물 또는 탄소-황 폴리머((C2Sx)n: x=2.5 ~ 50, n=2) 등의 황 계열 화합물 등을 포함할 수 있지만, 이들만으로 한정되는 것은 아니다.
상기 양극 활물질은 상기 양극 활물질층 총 중량에 대하여 65 내지 95 중량%로 포함될 수 있다. 구체적으로, 상기 양극 활물질의 함량은 65 중량% 이상, 70 중량% 이상, 75 중량% 이상 또는 80 중량% 이상일 수 있다. 95 중량% 이하, 90 중량% 이하, 85 중량% 이하일 수 있다. 상기 양극 활물질의 함량이 65 중량% 미만이면 전지 성능이 저하될 수 있고, 95 중량%를 초과하면 물질 전달 저항이 커질 수 있다.
상기 바인더는 양극 활물질층을 구성하는 성분들 간 및 이들과 집전체 간의 결착력을 보다 높이는 것으로, 당해 업계에서 공지된 모든 바인더를 사용할 수 있다.
예를 들어 상기 바인더는 폴리비닐리덴 플루오라이드(polyvinylidenefluoride, PVdF) 또는 폴리테트라플루오로에틸렌(polytetrafluoroethylene, PTFE)을 포함하는 불소 수지계 바인더; 스티렌-부타디엔 고무(styrene butadiene rubber, SBR), 아크릴로니트릴-부티디엔 고무, 스티렌-이소프렌 고무를 포함하는 고무계 바인더; 카르복시메틸셀룰로우즈(carboxyl methyl cellulose, CMC), 전분, 히드록시 프로필셀룰로우즈, 재생 셀룰로오스를 포함하는 셀룰로오스계 바인더; 폴리 알코올계 바인더; 폴리에틸렌, 폴리프로필렌를 포함하는 폴리 올레핀계 바인더; 폴리 이미드계 바인더; 폴리 에스테르계 바인더; 및 실란계 바인더;로 이루어진 군으로부터 선택된 1종, 2종 이상의 혼합물 또는 공중합체를 사용할 수 있다.
또한, 상기 바인더는 상기 양극 활물질층 총 중량에 대하여 0.1 내지 5 중량%로 포함될 수 있다. 구체적으로, 상기 바인더의 함량은 0.1 중량% 이상, 0.5 중량% 이상 또는 0.8 중량% 이상일 수 있고, 5 중량% 이하, 4 중량% 이하, 3 중량% 이하, 2 중량% 이하 또는 1.5 중량% 이하일 수 있다. 상기 바인더의 함량이 0.1 중량% 미만이면 양극 활물질층 내에 포함된 물질들 간의 결착력 향상 효과가 미미하여 전극 시트가 제대로 형성되지 않을 수 있고, 5 중량% 초과이면 양극의 이온 전도도 또는 전기전도도가 저하될 수 있다.
상기 양극 활물질층은 추가로 도전재를 포함할 수 있다. 상기 도전재는 전고체 전지의 내부 환경에서 부반응을 방지하고, 당해 전지에 화학적 변화를 유발하지 않으면서 우수한 전기전도성을 가지는 것이라면 특별히 제한되지 않는다.
예를 들어 상기 도전재로는 흑연 또는 도전성 탄소를 사용할 수 있으며, 예컨대, 천연 흑연, 인조 흑연 등의 흑연; 아세틸렌 블랙, 케첸 블랙, 덴카 블랙, 써멀 블랙, 채널 블랙, 퍼네이스 블랙, 램프 블랙, 서머 블랙 등의 카본블랙; 결정구조가 그라펜이나 그라파이트인 탄소계 물질; 탄소 섬유, 금속 섬유 등의 도전성 섬유; 불화 카본; 알루미늄 분말, 니켈 분말 등의 금속 분말; 산화 아연, 티탄산 칼륨 등의 도전성 위스키; 산화 티탄 등의 도전성 금속 산화물; 및 폴리페닐렌 유도체 등의 도전성 고분자;를 단독으로 또는 2종 이상 혼합하여 사용할 수 있으나, 반드시 이에 한정되는 것은 아니다. 바람직하게는, 상기 도전재는 기상성장탄소섬유(vapor-grown carbon fiber, VGCF)을 포함할 수 있다.
상기 도전재는 상기 양극 활물질층 전체 중량을 기준으로 0 중량% 초과 5 중량% 이하로 포함될 수 있으며, 구체적으로 상기 도전재의 함량은 0.1 중량% 이상, 0.5 중량% 이상, 1 중량% 이상, 1.5 중량% 이상 또는 2 중량% 이상일 수 있고, 5 중량% 이하, 4 중량% 이하 또는 3 중량% 이하일 수 있다. 상기 도전재를 포함하지 않으면 전기전도도 향상 효과를 기대하기 어렵거나 전지의 전기화학적 특성이 저하될 수 있으며, 5 중량%를 초과하여 너무 많으면 상대적으로 양극 활물질의 양이 적어져 용량 및 에너지 밀도가 저하될 수 있다.
본 발명의 일 실시예로, 상기 양극 활물질층은 양극 활물질, 상기 화학식 1의 고체 전해질 및 바인더를 포함하는 양극 활물질층 형성용 조성물을 집전체 상에 도포하여 형성된 것으로, 상기 조성물은 용매를 포함하지 않는 것일 수 있다. 따라서, 본 발명의 전고체 전지용 양극은 건식 양극일 수 있다.
본 발명의 다른 실시예로, 상기 양극 활물질층은 양극 활물질, 상기 화학식 1의 고체 전해질, 바인더 및 용매를 포함하는 양극 활물질층 형성용 조성물을 집전체 상에 도포 및 건조하여 형성된 것으로, 본 발명의 전고체 전지용 양극은 습식 양극일 수 있다.
상기 양극 집전체는 양극 활물질층의 지지를 위한 것으로, 우수한 도전성을 지니고 리튬 이차전지의 전압영역에서 전기화학적으로 안정한 것이라면 특별히 제한되는 것은 아니다. 예를 들어, 상기 양극 집전체는 구리, 알루미늄, 스테인리스 스틸, 티타늄, 은, 팔라듐, 니켈, 이들의 합금 및 이들의 조합으로 이루어진 군에서 선택되는 어느 하나의 금속일 수 있고, 상기 스테인리스스틸은 카본, 니켈, 티탄 또는 은으로 표면 처리될 수 있으며, 상기 합금으로는 알루미늄-카드뮴 합금을 바람직하게 사용할 수 있고, 그 외에도 소성 탄소, 도전재로 표면 처리된 비전도성 고분자, 또는 전도성 고분자 등을 사용할 수도 있다.
상기 양극 집전체는 그것의 표면에 미세한 요철을 형성하여 양극 활물질과의 결합력을 강화시킬 수 있으며, 필름, 시트, 호일, 메쉬, 네트, 다공질체, 발포체, 부직포체 등 다양한 형태를 사용할 수 있다.
상기 양극의 기공도는 0.1 내지 40%일 수 있다. 상술한 바와 같이 상기 양극 활물질층은 상기 화학식 1의 고체 전해질을 포함함에 따라 양극 활물질과 상기 화학식 1의 고체 전해질의 접촉 면적이 증가하여 상기의 기공도를 가질 수 있다. 그러므로 본 발명의 양극은 이온 전도 경로(path)가 효과적으로 형성된 것일 수 있다.
또한, 상기 양극의 이온 전도도는 60℃에서 1X10-6 내지 1X10-3mS/cm일 수 있으며, 전기 전도도는 1X10-6 내지 1X10-3mS/cm일 수 있다. 상술한 바와 같이 상기 양극 활물질층은 상기 화학식 1의 고체 전해질을 포함함에 따라 양극 활물질과 고체 전해질의 접촉 면적이 증가할 수 있다. 그에 따라 본 발명의 양극은 상기와 같이 우수한 이온 전도도 및 전기 전도도를 가질 수 있다.
전고체 전지
본 발명은 양극; 음극; 및 상기 양극과 음극 사이에 고체 전해질층;을 포함하는 전고체 전지에 관한 것으로, 상기 양극은 상술한 본 발명의 양극이다.
상기 음극은 음극 집전체 및 상기 음극 집전체 상에 위치하는 음극 활물질층을 포함하는 것일 수 있다. 또한, 상기 음극은 상기 양극과 마찬가지로 필요에 따라 도전재 및 바인더를 포함할 수 있다. 이때 음극 집전체, 도전재 및 바인더는 전술한 바와 같다.
상기 음극 활물질은 리튬 이온(Li+)을 가역적으로 흡장(intercalation) 또는 방출(deintercalation)할 수 있는 물질, 리튬 이온과 반응하여 가역적으로 리튬 함유 화합물을 형성할 수 있는 물질이라면 모두 가능하다.
예를 들어, 상기 음극 활물질은 결정질 인조 흑연, 결정질 천연 흑연, 비정질 하드카본, 저결정질 소프트카본, 카본 블랙, 아세틸렌 블랙, 케첸 블랙, 수퍼-P, 그래핀(graphene), 섬유상 탄소로 이루어진 군으로부터 선택되는 하나 이상의 탄소계 물질, Si계 물질, LixFe2O3(0≤x≤1), LixWO2(0≤x≤1), SnxMe1-xMe´yOz(Me: Mn, Fe, Pb, Ge; Me´: Al, B, P, Si, 주기율표의 1족, 2족, 3족 원소, 할로겐; 0<x≤1; 1≤y≤3; 1≤z≤8) 등의 금속 복합 산화물; 리튬 금속; 리튬 합금; 규소계 합금; 주석계 합금; SnO, SnO2, PbO, PbO2, Pb2O3, Pb3O4, Sb2O3, Sb2O4, Sb2O5, GeO, GeO2, Bi2O3, Bi2O4, Bi2O5 등의 금속 산화물; 폴리아세틸렌 등의 도전성 고분자; Li-Co-Ni 계 재료; 티타늄 산화물; 리튬 티타늄 산화물 등을 포함할 수 있지만, 이들만으로 한정되는 것은 아니다.
또한, 상기 음극은 음극 집전체 및 상기 음극 집전체 상에 위치하는 금속-탄소 복합 입자를 포함하는 코팅층을 포함하는 것일 수 있다. 이는 음극 활물질을 포함하지 않는 무음극(anodeless)를 뜻하는 것일 수 있다.
상기 음극은 전고체 전지 충전시 리튬 이온이 상기 코팅층을 통과하여 음극 집전체 표면에 도달하고, 이들이 전착되어 리튬 금속층을 형성하는 것일 수 있다.
상기 금속-탄소 복합입자는 탄소 입자와 금속 입자가 상호간 부착되어 있거나 어느 하나의 표면에 다른 하나가 코팅되어 있는 형태를 갖는 것일 수 있으며, 물리적 또는 화학적으로 결합되어 있는 것일 수 있다.
상기 탄소 입자는 천연 흑연, 인조 흑연, 하드 카본, 소프트 카본, 카본 블랙, 아세틸렌 블랙, 케첸 블랙, 채널 블랙, 퍼네이스 블랙, 램프 블랙, 서머 블랙, 탄소 나노 튜브, 플러렌, 탄소 섬유, 불화 카본을 포함할 수 있다.
상기 금속 입자는 친리튬 특성 금속(lithiophilic metal)인 것으로서, 예를 들어 Ni, Cu, Ag, Au, Pt, Al, Zn, Bi 등을 들 수 있으며, 이 중 하나 또는 둘 이상의 조합일 수 있다. 상기 친리튬 특성을 갖는 금속을 도입함으로써 집전체 표면에 안정적이고 균일한 리튬층을 형성하는데 유리하다.
상기 음극은 바인더 용액 및 상기 복합 입자를 혼합하여 코팅층 형성용 슬러리를 제조한 후, 상기 슬러리를 음극 집전체 상에 도포 및 건조하여 제조되는 것일 수 있다. 이 때 상기 바인더는 당업계에서 사용되는 통상의 바인더가 사용되는 것일 수 있다.
상기 고체 전해질층은 고체 전해질이 층 형태로 이루어진 것이며, 고체 전해질은 상기 화학식 1의 고체 전해질이거나, 상기 화학식 1과 상이한 고체 전해질일 수 있다. 상기 화학식 1과 상이한 고체 전해질은 황화물계 고체 전해질, 고분자계 고체 전해질 및 산화물계 고체 전해질로 이루어진 군으로부터 선택되는 1종 이상을 포함하는 것일 수 있으며, 바람직하게는 황화물계 고체 전해질을 포함하는 것일 수 있다.
상기 황화물계 고체 전해질은 황(S)을 함유하고, 주기율표 제1족 또는 제2족에 속하는 금속의 이온 전도성을 갖는 것으로서, Li-P-S계 유리나 Li-P-S계 유리 세라믹을 포함할 수 있다.
구체적으로, 상기 황화물계 고체 전해질은 Li6PS5Cl, Li6PS5Br, Li6PS5I, Li2S-P2S5, Li2S-LiI-P2S5, Li2S-LiI-Li2O-P2S5, Li2S-LiBr-P2S5, Li2S-Li2O-P2S5, Li2S-Li3PO4-P2S5, Li2S-P2S5, Li2S-P2S5-SiS2, Li2S-P2S5-SnS, Li2S-P2S5-Al2S3, Li2S-GeS2 및 Li2S-GeS2-ZnS로 이루어진 군으로부터 선택되는 1종 이상을 포함하는 것일 수 있으며, 바람직하게는 Li6PS5Cl, Li6PS5Br 및 Li6PS5I로 이루어진 군으로부터 선택되는 1종 이상을 포함할 수 있다. 상기 Li6PS5Cl, Li6PS5Br 및 Li6PS5I는 아지로다이트형(Argyrodite type) 고체 전해질일 수 있다. 또한, 상기 황화물계 고체 전해질은 미량의 원소들이 도핑된 형태일수 있으며, 예를 들어 Li6PS5Cl에 브롬(Br)이 추가적으로 도핑된 것일 수 있다.
상기 고분자계 고체 전해질은 리튬염과 고분자 수지의 복합물 즉, 용매화된 리튬염에 고분자 수지가 첨가되어 형성된 형태의 고분자 전해질 재료인 것으로서, 약 1x10-7 S/cm 이상, 바람직하게는 약 1x10-5 S/cm 이상의 이온 전도도를 나타낼 수 있다.
상기 고분자 수지의 비제한적인 예로 폴리에테르계 고분자, 폴리카보네이트계 고분자, 아크릴레이트계 고분자, 폴리실록산계 고분자, 포스파젠계 고분자, 폴리에틸렌 유도체, 폴리에틸렌옥사이드와 같은 알킬렌 옥사이드 유도체, 인산 에스테르 폴리머, 폴리 에지테이션 리신(agitation lysine), 폴리에스테르 술파이드, 폴리비닐 알코올, 폴리 불화 비닐리덴, 이온성 해리기를 포함하는 중합체 등이 있으며 이 중 하나 이상을 포함할 수 있다. 또한, 상기 고분자 전해질은 고분자 수지로서 PEO(poly ethylene oxide) 주쇄에 PMMA, 폴리카보네이트, 폴리실록산(pdms) 및/또는 포스파젠과 같은 무정형 고분자를 공단량체로 공중합시킨 가지형 공중합체, 빗형 고분자 수지 (comb-like polymer) 및 가교 고분자 수지 등을 예로 들 수 있으며 이 중 1종 이상이 포함될 수 있다.
상기 고분자 고체 전해질에 있어서, 전술한 리튬염은 이온화 가능한 리튬염으로서 Li+X-로 표현할 수 있다. 이러한 리튬염의 음이온으로는 특별히 제한되지 않으나, F-, Cl-, Br-, I-, NO3 -, N(CN)2 -, BF4 -, ClO4 -, PF6 -, (CF3)2PF4 -, (CF3)3PF3 -, (CF3)4PF2 -, (CF3)5PF-, (CF3)6P-, CF3SO3 -, CF3CF2SO3 -, (CF3SO2)2N-, (FSO2)2N-, CF3CF2(CF3)2CO-, (CF3SO2)2CH-, (SF5)3C-, (CF3SO2)3C-, CF3(CF2)7SO3 -, CF3CO2 -, CH3CO2 -, SCN-, (CF3CF2SO2)2N- 등을 예시할 수 있다.
상기 산화물계 고체 전해질은 산소(O)를 포함하고 주기율표 제1족 또는 제2족에 속하는 금속의 이온 전도성을 갖는 것일 수 있다. 예를 들어, LLTO계 화합물, Li6La2CaTa2O12, Li6La2ANb2O12(A는 Ca 또는 Sr), Li2Nd3TeSbO12, Li3BO2.5N0.5, Li9SiAlO8, LAGP계 화합물, LATP계 화합물, Li1+xTi2-xAlxSiy(PO4)3-y(여기에서, 0≤x≤1, 0≤y≤1), LiAlxZr2-x(PO4)3(여기에서, 0≤x≤1, 0≤y≤1), LiTixZr2-x(PO4)3(여기에서, 0≤x≤1, 0≤y≤1), LISICON계 화합물, LIPON계 화합물, 페롭스카이트계 화합물, 나시콘계 화합물 및 LLZO계 화합물 중 선택된 1 종 이상을 포함할 수 있다.
본 발명의 전고체 전지용 양극의 양극 활물질층은 상기 화학식 1의 고체 전해질을 포함한다. 상기 화학식 1의 고체 전해질은 0≤d<0.3, d<e≤3 및 e≥7d인 것으로 Cl은 미량으로 포함되고, X(Br 또는 I)가 과량으로 포함된 것이다. 따라서, 상기 화학식 1의 고체 전해질과 양극 활물질의 접촉 면적이 증가하여 양극의 기공도를 감소시키고, 이온 전도 경로(path)가 효과적으로 형성되어 양극의 이온 전도도 및 전기 전도도를 향상시킬 수 있다. 그에 따라, 상기 양극을 포함하는 전고체 전지는 개선된 에너지 밀도를 얻을 수 있다.
이하, 실시예를 통해 본 발명을 더욱 상술하지만, 하기 실시예는 본 발명을 예시하기 위한 것이며, 본 발명의 범주가 이들만으로 한정되는 것은 아니다.
<전고체 전지용 양극 제조>
실시예 1.
양극 활물질(NCM 811), 도전재(카본 파이버), 고체 전해질(Li6PS5Cl0.1Br0.9) 및 바인더(폴리테트라플루오로에틸렌)를 포함하는 양극 활물질층 형성용 조성물을 제조하였다. 상기 양극 활물질층 형성용 조성물을 양극 집전체에 도포하여 집전체 상에 양극 활물질층이 형성된 양극을 제조하였다.
비교예 1.
고체 전해질로 Li6PS5Cl을 사용한 것을 제외하고는 상기 실시예 1과 동일하게 실시하여 양극을 제조하였다.
비교예 2.
고체 전해질로 Li6PS5Cl0.5Br0.5를 사용한 것을 제외하고는 상기 실시예 1과 동일하게 실시하여 양극을 제조하였다.
실험예 1. 전고체 전지용 양극의 기공도 측정
상기 실시예 1, 비교예 1 및 비교예 2에서 제조한 전고체 전지용 양극의 기공도를 측정하였다. 상기 기공도는 상기 각각의 양극을 2X2cm2로 타발한 후 무게와 두께를 재어 측정하였으며, 결과를 도 1에 나타내었다.
상기 기공도 측정 결과에서, 실시예 1의 기공도는 12.1%로 측정된 반면, 비교예 1의 기공도는 14.3% 및 비교예 2의 기공도는 15.1%로 측정되었다. 즉, 실시예 1의 전고체 전지용 양극의 기공도는 비교예 1 및 2의 전고체 전지용 양극의 기공도 보다 낮은 결과를 보였다.
상기 비교예 1의 양극 활물질층의 고체 전해질은 X를 포함하지 않으며, 비교예 2는 d가 0.5이며, e가 0.5인 것으로, 비교예 1 및 2의 양극 활물질층은 상기 화학식 1의 고체 전해질을 포함하지 않는 것이다. 그에 따라 양극 활물질과 고체 전해질의 접촉이 증가하지 않아 비교예 1 및 2의 전고체 전지용 양극은 실시예 1의 전고체 전지용 양극 보다 기공도가 높은 결과를 보였다. 반면, 실시예 1의 양극 활물질층은 상기 화학식 1의 고체 전해질을 포함하므로 양극 활물질과 고체 전해질의 접촉이 증가하여 낮은 기공도를 보였다.
실험예 2. 전고체 전지용 양극의 이온 전도도 및 전기 전도도 측정
상기 실시예 1, 비교예 1 및 비교예 2에서 제조한 전고체 전지용 양극의 이온 전도도 및 전기 전도도를 측정하였다. 상기 이온 전도도 및 전기 전도도 측정은 Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy(60℃, 0.01-106Hz)로 측정하였으며, 결과는 하기 표 1에 나타내었다.

상기 표 1의 결과에서, 실시예 1의 전고체 전지용 양극의 전기 전도도 및 이온 전도도는 비교예 1 및 2의 전고체 전지용 양극 보다 우수한 결과를 보였다. 상기 실험예 1에서 상술한 바와 같이, 상기 비교예 1 및 2의 양극 활물질층은 상기 화학식 1의 고체 전해질을 포함하지 않는 것이다. 그에 따라 양극 활물질과 고체 전해질의 접촉이 증가하지 않아 비교예 1 및 2의 전고체 전지용 양극은 전기 전도도 및 이온 전도도가 실시예 1의 전고체 전지용 양극 보다 낮은 결과를 보였다.
실시예 1의 양극 활물질층은 상기 화학식 1의 고체 전해질을 포함하므로 양극 활물질과 고체 전해질의 접촉이 증가하여 우수한 전기 전도도 및 이온 전도도를 나타내었다.
실험예 3. 전고체 전지용 양극의 방전 용량 및 수명 특성 측정
상기 실시예 1, 비교예 1 및 비교예 2에서 제조한 전고체 전지용 양극의 방전 용량 및 수명 특성을 측정하였다.
방전 용량 및 수명 특성 측정은, 전고체 전지용 양극을 60℃의 온도에서 CCCV 모드로 0.33C로 4.25V가 될 때까지 충전하고, 정전류로 3.0V까지 방전하여 50회 충·방전을 진행하였을 시의 용량 유지율로 측정하였다. 방전 용량 결과는 도 2, 수명 특성 결과는 도 3에 나타내었다.
상기 실험예 1에서 상술한 바와 같이 상기 비교예 1 및 2의 양극 활물질층은 상기 화학식 1의 고체 전해질을 포함하지 않는 것이다. 그에 따라 상기 실험예 1 및 2의 결과에서 비교예 1 및 2의 전고체 전지용 양극은 기공도가 높고, 전기 전도도 및 이온 전도도가 낮은 결과를 보인 반면, 실시예 1의 전고체 전지용 양극 활물질층은 상기 화학식 1의 고체 전해질을 포함하므로, 실험예 1 및 2의 결과에서 양극의 기공도가 낮고, 전기 전도도 및 이온 전도도가 우수한 결과를 보였다.
따라서, 기공도가 낮고, 전기 전도도 및 이온 전도도가 높은 실시예 1의 전고체 전지용 양극은 방전 용량 및 수명 특성이 우수한 결과를 보였다. 그러나 기공도가 높고, 전기 전도도 및 이온 전도도가 낮은 비교예 1 및 2의 전고체 전지용 양극은 상기 실시예 1 보다 방전 용량 및 수명 특성이 낮은 결과를 보였다.
이로부터 양극 활물질층이 상기 화학식 1의 고체 전해질을 포함하면 양극 활물질과 상기 화학식 1의 고체 전해질의 접촉이 증가하여 양극의 기공도를 감소시키고, 이온 전도도 및 전기 전도도를 향상시킬 수 있음을 알 수 있었다. 또한, 상기 효과로 인하여 양극 및 이를 포함하는 전고체 전지의 에너지 밀도를 개선시킬 수 있음을 알 수 있었다.

Claims (10)

  1. 집전체; 및
    상기 집전체 상에 위치하는 양극 활물질층;을 포함하는 전고체 전지용 양극으로서,
    상기 양극 활물질층은 양극 활물질, 하기 화학식 1의 고체 전해질 및 바인더를 포함하는 전고체 전지용 양극:

    LiaPbScCldXe
    상기 화학식 1에서,
    4≤a≤7, 0≤b≤1, 3≤z≤5, 0≤d<0.3 및 d<e≤3이고,
    X는 Br 또는 I이다.
  2. 제1항에 있어서,
    상기 화학식 1에서 0<d<0.3인, 전고체 전지용 양극.
  3. 제2항에 있어서,
    상기 화학식 1에서 e≥7d인, 전고체 전지용 양극.
  4. 제1항에 있어서,
    상기 화학식 1에서 0.5≤e≤3인, 전고체 전지용 양극.
  5. 제1항에 있어서,
    상기 양극 활물질층은 양극 활물질층 총 중량에 대하여 65 내지 95 중량%의 양극 활물질, 3 내지 30 중량%의 상기 화학식 1의 고체 전해질 및 0.1 내지 5 중량%의 바인더를 포함하는 것인, 전고체 전지용 양극.
  6. 제1항에 있어서,
    상기 양극 활물질층은 추가로 도전재를 포함하는 것인, 전고체 전지용 양극.
  7. 제6항에 있어서,
    상기 도전재는 양극 활물질층 총 중량에 대하여 0 초과 5 중량% 이하로 포함되는 것인, 전고체 전지용 양극.
  8. 제1항 내지 제7항 중 어느 한 항의 양극; 음극; 및 상기 양극과 음극 사이에 위치하는 고체 전해질층;을 포함하는 전고체 전지.
  9. 제8항에 있어서,
    상기 고체 전해질층의 고체 전해질은 황화물계 고체 전해질을 포함하는 것인, 전고체 전지.
  10. 제9항에 있어서,
    상기 고체 전해질은 상기 화학식 1의 고체 전해질과 같거나 상이한 것인, 전고체 전지.
