- the rotation of pulley 110A is transmitted to pulley 110B via timing belt 116, causing pulley 110B to rotate. In this way, the power PW2 of the drive unit 60 is transmitted from pulley 110A to pulley 110B.
- pulley 110B The rotation of pulley 110B is transmitted to pulley 112A via connecting shaft 122, and pulley 112A rotates together with pulley 110B.
- the rotation of pulley 112A is transmitted to pulley 112B via timing belt 118, causing pulley 112B to rotate. In this way, power PW2 of drive unit 60 is transmitted from pulley 112A to pulley 112B.

- the pulley 112A connected to one end 82 of the link member 70B and one end 100 of the link member 72B via shafts 86 and 122 does not rotate relative to the base arm 52 (i.e., the hand base 32).
- the pulley 112B connected to the other end 88 of the link member 70B and the other end 104 of the link member 72B via shafts 90 and 124 does not rotate relative to the base arm 52 (hand base 32).

- timing belt 118 rotates around pulley 112A.
- the teeth on the inner circumference of timing belt 118 sequentially mesh with the teeth on the outer circumference of pulleys 112A and 112B, causing timing belt 118 to rotate relatively on the outer circumference of pulleys 112A and 112B.
- This meshing between pulleys 112A and 112B and timing belt 118 allows timing belt 118 to rotate around pulley 112A, thereby allowing link members 70A, 70B, 72A, and 72A to be rotated by drive unit 58.
- Tensioning mechanisms 64A, 64B, and 64C apply tension to timing belts 116, 118, and 120, respectively.

- Each of tensioning mechanisms 64A, 64B, and 64C has arm portions 128 and 130, and a pair of rotating members 132A and 132B.
- Arm portion 128 (first arm portion) is a flat, linearly extending member.
- Arm portion 130 (second arm portion) is formed integrally with one end of arm portion 128 and is perpendicular to arm portion 128 to define a generally T-shaped outer shape.
- a long hole 130a is formed in arm portion 130.

- the arm portion 128 of the tensioning mechanism 64A is fixed to the shaft 86, thereby being installed adjacent to the pulleys 110B and 112A.
- the arm portion 128 of the tensioning mechanism 64A is positioned so that it extends along the extension direction of the timing belt 116 in the section between the first pair of pulleys 110A and 110B.
- the arm portion 130 of the tensioning mechanism 64A is positioned so that it extends intersecting (specifically, approximately perpendicular to) the extension direction of the timing belt 116 in the section between the first pair of pulleys 110A and 110B.
- the rotating members 132A and 132B of the tensioning mechanism 64A sandwich the timing belt 116 from the outside in the section between the first pair of pulleys 110A and 110B, applying tension to the timing belt 116. These rotating members 132A and 132B rotate relative to the arm portion 130 as the timing belt 116 rotates.
- the arm portion 128 of the tensioning mechanism 64A may also be located adjacent to the pulley 110A.
- the arm portion 128 of the tensioning mechanism 64B is installed adjacent to the pulley 112B. In this state, the arm portion 128 of the tensioning mechanism 64B is positioned to extend along the extension direction of the timing belt 118 in the section between the second pair of pulleys 112A and 112B. On the other hand, the arm portion 130 of the tensioning mechanism 64B is positioned to extend so as to intersect (substantially perpendicular to) the extension direction of the timing belt 118 in the section between the second pair of pulleys 112A and 112B.
- the rotating members 132A and 132B of the tensioning mechanism 64B clamp the timing belt 118 from the outside in the section between the second pair of pulleys 112A and 112B to apply tension to the timing belt 118, and rotate relative to the arm portion 130 as the timing belt 118 rotates.
- the arm portion 128 of the tensioning mechanism 64B may also be located adjacent to the pulley 112A.
- the arm portion 128 of the tensioning mechanism 64C is attached to the shaft 124 so as to be rotatable relative to the shaft 124, and is installed adjacent to the pulley 114A. In this state, the arm portion 128 of the tensioning mechanism 64C is positioned to extend along the extension direction of the timing belt 120 in the section between the third pair of pulleys 114A and 114B. On the other hand, the arm portion 130 of the tensioning mechanism 64C is positioned to extend so as to intersect (substantially perpendicular to) the extension direction of the timing belt 120 in the section between the third pair of pulleys 114A and 114B.
- the rotating members 132A and 132B of the tensioning mechanism 64C clamp the timing belt 120 from the outside in the section between the third pair of pulleys 114A and 114B to apply tension to the timing belt 120, and rotate relative to the arm portion 130 as the timing belt 120 rotates.
- the arm portion 128 of the tensioning mechanism 64C may be located adjacent to the pulley 114B. The operator can adjust the tension applied to the timing belts 116, 118, and 120 by adjusting the distance between the rotating members 132A and 132B of the tensioning mechanisms 64A, 64B, and 64C.
- the visual sensor 14 captures an image of the item W to be grasped by the robot hand 30.
- the visual sensor 14 is, for example, a three-dimensional visual sensor, and has an imaging sensor such as a CCD or CMOS, and an optical lens such as a focus lens.
- the visual sensor 14 supplies image data of the captured item (three-dimensional point cloud image data, range image data, etc.) to the control device 16.
- the visual sensor 14 may be fixed at a predetermined position, or may be fixed to the wrist flange 26b or the robot hand 30 (e.g., the hand base 32) and moved by the robot 12.
- the control device 16 controls the operation of the robot 12 and the visual sensor 14.
- the control device 16 is a computer having a processor (CPU, GPU, etc.) and memory (ROM, RAM, etc.).
- the control device 16 performs a gripping operation in which the robot hand 30 grips and picks up items W stacked in bulk in a container C, as shown in FIG. 18. The gripping operation is described below.
- each gripping mechanism 50 is in the storage state ST ( Figures 4 to 9).
- the control device 16 When performing a gripping operation, the control device 16 first operates the visual sensor 14 to capture an image of the item W in the container C. Next, the control device 16 acquires position data of the imaged item W based on the image data captured by the visual sensor 14, and operates the robot 12 based on this position data to bring the robot hand 30 closer to the item W to be gripped. As a result, the robot hand 30 enters the container C, and the gripping portion 36 of the robot hand 30 abuts against the item W to be gripped and grips it.
- the control device 16 then operates the robot 12 to retract the robot hand 30 outside the container C and remove the item W held by the gripper 36 from the container C.
- the control device 16 then operates the drive unit 58 of each gripping mechanism 50 to deploy the movable arm 66 to the deployed position EP1 ( Figures 14 to 16), and operates the drive unit 60 to deploy the movable arm 68 to the deployed position EP2.
- each gripping mechanism 50 enters the expanded state EX, and as shown in FIG. 19, the gripping portion 54 provided on the movable arm 68 comes into contact with the item W being gripped by the gripping portion 36. In this way, the item W being gripped by the gripping portion 36 is gripped by the gripping portions 54 of the multiple gripping mechanisms 50. Through this gripping operation, the item W can be removed from the container C.
- the control device 16 may first operate the drive unit 58 to place the movable arm 66 at the deployed position EP1, and then operate the drive unit 60 to place the movable arm 68 at the deployed position EP2.
- the control device 16 may simultaneously operate the drive units 58 and 60 to simultaneously move the movable arms 66 and 68 toward the deployed positions EP1 and EP2.
- the control device 16 may operate the drive unit 58 to start an operation to deploy the movable arm 66 to the deployment position EP1.
- the control device 16 may deploy the movable arm 66 to the deployment position EP1 while the robot hand 30 is being retracted, and after the robot hand 30 has been retracted outside the container C, operate the drive unit 60 to deploy the movable arm 68 to the deployment position EP2.
- the control device 16 may operate the drive units 58 and 60 simultaneously to deploy the movable arms 66 and 68 to the deployment positions EP1 and EP2 while the robot hand 30 is being retracted.
- the control device 16 operates the robot 12 to perform a transport operation to transport the item W gripped by the robot hand 30 to a specified storage location.
- the item W gripped by the gripper 36 is supported by the gripper 54 of the gripping mechanism 50, which suppresses vibration of the item W during the transport operation and thereby prevents the item W from falling. In this way, the item W gripped by the gripper 36 can be stably transported to the storage location.
- the gripping mechanism 50 includes a first gripping portion 54 and a link mechanism 56.
- the link mechanism 56 is configured to be deployable from a stored state ST, in which the first gripping portion 54 is stored at a position on the base end side of the robot hand 30, to an deployed state EX, in which the first gripping portion 54 is deployed to a position on the tip end side of the robot hand 30 and brought into contact with the article W.
- the link mechanism 56 can be placed in the stored state ST, allowing the first gripper 54 to be stored at the base end of the robot hand 30. This prevents the components of the gripping mechanism 50 from interfering with environmental objects such as the container C.
- the first gripper 54 by deploying the first gripper 54 at the tip end of the robot hand 30, the item W can be securely gripped by the gripper 54.
- the robot hand 30 has a second gripping unit 36 that can grip an item W.
- the link mechanism 56 stores the first gripping unit 54 at a position closer to the base end than the second gripping unit 36 in the stored state ST, and deploys the first gripping unit 54 to a position closer to the tip end than the second gripping unit 56 in the deployed state EX.
- the link mechanism 56 has a first movable arm 66 and link members 70A, 70B, 72A, and 72B.
- the first movable arm 66 is movable between a first storage position SP1 corresponding to the stored state ST and a first deployment position EP1 corresponding to the deployed state EX and positioned further distal than the first storage position SP1 (in this embodiment, axially downward), and moves the first gripping portion 54.
- link members 70A, 70B, 72A, 72B have one end 74, 82, 92, 100 rotatably mounted relative to the hand base 32, and the other end 78, 88, 98, 104 rotatably connected to the first movable arm 66.
- Link members 70A, 70B, 72A, 72B guide the movement of the first movable arm 66 between the first storage position SP1 and the first deployed position EP1.
- the first gripping portion 54 can be effectively deployed and retracted by the movement of the first movable arm 66 guided by the link members 70A, 70B, 72A, and 72B. It is also possible to omit the link members 70A, 70B, 72A, and 72B and rotatably attach the movable arm 66 directly to the hand base 32 (or base arm 52).
- the gripping mechanism 50 further includes a base arm 52 that is fixed to the hand base 32 and to which one ends 74, 82, 92, 100 of the link members 70A, 70B, 72A, 72B are rotatably connected.
- a base arm 52 that is fixed to the hand base 32 and to which one ends 74, 82, 92, 100 of the link members 70A, 70B, 72A, 72B are rotatably connected.
- the gripping mechanism 50 can be easily installed on the hand base 32. Furthermore, by storing the first movable arm 66 so that it faces the base arm 52 in the first storage position SP1, the first movable arm 66 can be stored more compactly in the first storage position SP1. Note that the base arm 52 may be omitted, and the movable arm 66 may be rotatably attached directly to the hand base 32.
- the link mechanism 56 has a pair of link members 70A and 70B, 72A and 72B arranged parallel to each other, with one end 74 and 82, 92 and 100 connected at a distance in the extension direction of the base arm 52 (in this embodiment, the axial direction).
- the pair of link members 70A and 70B, 72A and 72B guide the first movable arm 66 to move between the first storage position SP1 and the first deployed position EP1 while maintaining an attitude parallel to the extension direction.
- the risk of the first movable arm 66 interfering with environmental objects (such as container C) when the first movable arm 66 is deployed and retracted can be reduced. It is also possible to omit one of the first pair of link members 70A and 70B and one of the second pair of link members 72A and 72B.
- the link mechanism 56 is provided with a first gripping portion 54 and further includes a second movable arm 68 rotatably connected to the first movable arm 66.
- the second movable arm 68 rotates between a second storage position EP2 ( Figure 4) corresponding to the stored state ST and stored so as to face the first movable arm 66, and a second deployment position EP2 ( Figure 14) corresponding to the deployed state EX and positioned further distal (axially lower) than the second storage position EP2.
- the first gripper 54 can be deployed to a position further towards the tip of the robot hand 30, thereby enabling the gripper 36 to reliably and stably support the item W being gripped. Furthermore, even if the item W has relatively large dimensions, the first gripper 54 can reliably grip the item W.
- the second movable arm 68 may be omitted from the link mechanism 56, and the first gripper 54 may be installed on the first movable arm 66.
- the gripping mechanism 50 has a first drive unit 58 and a second drive unit 60.
- the first drive unit 58 is fixed to the hand base 32 and generates a power PW1 that rotates the link members 70A, 70B, 72A, and 72B relative to the hand base 32.
- the second drive unit 60 is fixed to the hand base 32 and generates a power PW2 that rotates the second movable arm 68 relative to the first movable arm 66.
- the drive unit 60 may be omitted, and a second power transmission mechanism may be provided that transmits the power PW1 generated by the drive unit 58 to the above-mentioned power transmission mechanism 62.
- the power PW1 of the drive unit 58 will simultaneously deploy and retract both of the movable arms 66 and 68.
- both drive units 58 and 60 may be omitted, and the operator may manually deploy and retract the movable arms 66 and 68.
- the first drive unit 58 is connected to one end 74 of the link member 70A, and the second drive unit 60 is positioned closer to the base end (upper axial direction) than the first drive unit 58. In this way, by positioning the second drive unit 60 closer to the base end, the weight of the tip end of the robot hand 30 is reduced, thereby reducing the burden on the robot 12.
- the gripping mechanism 50 further includes a power transmission mechanism 62 that mechanically connects the second drive unit 60 and the second movable arm 68 and transmits the power PW2 generated by the second drive unit 60 to the second movable arm 68.
- a power transmission mechanism 62 that mechanically connects the second drive unit 60 and the second movable arm 68 and transmits the power PW2 generated by the second drive unit 60 to the second movable arm 68.
- the power transmission mechanism 62 includes pairs of rotatable pulleys 110A and 110B, 112A and 112B, and 114A and 114B, and timing belts 116, 118, and 120 stretched around the outer peripheries of the pairs of pulleys 110A and 110B, 112A and 112B, and 114A and 114B.
- the power transmission mechanism 62 transmits the rotation of one of the pairs of pulleys 110A and 110B, 112A and 112B, and 114A and 114B (pulley 110A, 112A, 114A) to the other of the pairs of pulleys 110A and 110B, 112A and 112B, and 114A and 114B (pulley 110B, 112B, 114B) via timing belts 116, 118, and 120, thereby transmitting power PW2 from one to the other.
- This configuration allows the power transmission mechanism 62 to be realized with a relatively simple mechanism.
- the power transmission mechanism 62 may have any mechanism other than pulleys and timing belts, such as a multi-stage gear mechanism.
- one pulley 112A of the second pair of pulleys 112A and 112B is rotatably mounted on one end 100 of the link member 72B, and the other pulley 112B is rotatably mounted on the other end 104 of the link member 72B.
- first drive unit 58 rotates the link member 72B, each of the second pair of pulleys 112A and 112B does not rotate relative to the hand base 32.
- the timing belt 118 rotates relatively on the outer peripheries of the second pair of pulleys 112A and 112B, thereby allowing the first drive unit 58 to rotate the link member 72B.
- This configuration prevents the timing belt 118 from interfering with the rotational movement of the link member 72B (i.e., the revolution of the pulley 112B), thereby preventing loss of power PW1 generated by the first drive unit 58.
- the gripping mechanism 50 further includes tensioning mechanisms 64A, 64B, and 64C that apply tension to the timing belts 116, 118, and 120 by clamping them from the outside in the sections between the pairs of pulleys 110A and 110B, 112A and 112B, and 114A and 114B.
- timing belts 116, 118, and 120 prevents the timing belts 116, 118, and 120 from loosening in the sections between pairs of pulleys 110A and 110B, 112A and 112B, and 114A and 114B. This allows for effective transmission of power PW2.
- the tensioning mechanisms 64A, 64B, and 64C may be omitted. In this case, the operator simply selects timing belts 116, 118, and 120 that can apply the appropriate tension depending on the length of the sections between pairs of pulleys 110A and 110B, 112A and 112B, and 114A and 114B.
- the tensioning mechanisms 64A, 64B, 64C each have a first arm 128, a second arm 130, and a pair of rotating members 132A and 132B.
- the first arm 128 is attached to one of the pulleys 110A, 112A, 114A or the other of the pulleys 110B, 112B, 114B, and extends along the extension direction of the timing belts 116, 118, 120 in the section.
- the second arm 130 is fixed to the first arm 128 and extends in a direction intersecting the extension direction.
- the rotating members 132A and 132B are attached to the second arm 130 so as to be displaceable along the second arm 130.
- the rotating members 132A and 132B clamp the timing belts 116, 118, 120 from the outside to apply tension, and rotate relative to the second arm portion as the timing belts 116, 118, 120 rotate.
- tension can be continuously applied to the timing belts 116, 118, 120 during rotation without interfering with the rotation of the timing belts 116, 118, 120.
- the tension applied to the timing belts 116, 118, 120 can be adjusted by displacing the positions of the rotating members 132A and 132B along the second arm portion 130.
- the first gripping portion 54 is described as being provided as a separate member from the movable arm 68.
- this is not limited to this, and the surface 68c of the movable arm 68 may be brought into contact with the article W being gripped by the gripping portion 36 to support the article W.
- the surface 68c of the movable arm 68 constitutes the first gripping portion.
- the surface of the movable arm 66 may be brought into contact with the article W being gripped by the gripping portion 36 to support the article W. That is, in this case, the surface of the movable arm 66 constitutes the first gripping portion.
- a third movable arm may be rotatably provided at the tip 68b of the second movable arm 68, and the first gripping portion 54 may be provided on the third movable arm (or on both the second movable arm 68 and the third movable arm).
- the surface of the third movable arm may function as a first gripping portion, abutting against the object W being gripped by the gripping portion 36 to support the object W.
- the second gripping portion 36 may be omitted from the robot hand 30.
- the gripping mechanism 50 can grip the object W with the first gripping portion 54 by deploying the link mechanism 56 to the deployed state EX.
- a gripping mechanism 50 that supports an item W gripped by a gripping portion 36 of a robot hand 30 to prevent the item W from falling, comprising: a first gripping portion 54 that abuts against the item W to support the item W; and a link mechanism 56 that can be deployed from a stored state ST in which the first gripping portion 54 is stored at a position on the base end side of the robot hand 30, to an deployed state EX in which the first gripping portion 54 is deployed to a position on the tip end side of the robot hand 30 and abuts against the item W.
