- the adaptive driving mode control unit 11 executes adaptive driving mode control provided in the vehicle.
- adaptive driving mode control include, but are not limited to, cruise control (CC: Cruise Control, constant speed control), adaptive cruise control (ACC: Adaptive Cruise Control, constant speed driving/intermediate distance control), and automatic speed control device (ISA: Intelligent Speed Adaptation). While adaptive driving mode control is being executed, the vehicle automatically drives at a target vehicle speed and does not steadily exceed the target vehicle speed.
- the first determination unit 12 determines that the settings of the saddle-ride type vehicle can be changed if predetermined criteria are met. "If predetermined criteria are met" can be, for example, but is not limited to, if a predetermined condition is met when adaptive driving mode control is in an execution state. In the case of adaptive driving mode control, the setting of the saddle-ride type vehicle is, for example, the target speed of the vehicle.
- the second determination unit 13 determines whether the driver's action corresponds to a predetermined refusal action.
- the refusal action may be, for example, an acceleration operation or a deceleration operation.
- the acceleration operation or the deceleration operation may be, for example, a rotation operation of the accelerator grip 41.
- the deceleration operation may be an on/off operation of the brake lever switch 43 or an on/off operation of the brake pedal switch 44. Note that, instead of the operation of a switch such as the brake lever switch 43 or the brake pedal switch 44, a sensor capable of detecting the operation of the switch may be mounted on the vehicle, and the second determination unit 13 may make a determination based on the detection by the sensor.
- the refusal action may be, for example, a movement of the driver captured by the camera 2.
- the refusal action may be a movement of the driver's head (e.g., shaking the head from side to side) or a movement of the driver's arm (e.g., raising and lowering the elbow).
- the setting unit 14 sets a target value during execution of adaptive driving mode control.
- the target value can be a target speed that is set when the lever 54 is tilted.
- the set target value can be visible, for example, on the display 51.
- the target value can also be a damping force setting for the shock absorber.

- the type of setting is the type of target value that can be set by the setting unit 14 (target value for CC, target value for ACC, target value for ISA, target value for shock absorber, etc.). For example, if the refusal action is a rotation operation of the accelerator grip 41, the target value for CC is maintained or changed. If the refusal action is an overclose, the target value for ACC is maintained or changed. If the refusal action is a driver's action, the target value for the shock absorber is maintained or changed. In this way, multiple options can be provided for maintaining or changing the settings.
- the refusal action may also include the operation of a specific switch.
- the storage unit 16 stores predetermined modes of refusal actions.
- the control unit 1 can change or maintain the vehicle settings when the notification unit issues a notification.
- the notification unit can be, for example, but is not limited to, a display 51 or an indicator light 52.
- the display 51 or the indicator light 52 can notify the driver that the first determination unit 12 has determined that the vehicle settings can be changed.
- the first determination unit 12 has determined that the vehicle settings can be changed" is synonymous with "the target value set by the setting unit 14 can be changed.”
- the target value set by the setting unit 14 can be changed means, for example, that when the adaptive driving mode control is CC, when the camera 2 captures an image of a speed limit sign during automatic driving at a target vehicle speed and the control unit 1 recognizes the speed limit sign, the target vehicle speed can be changed to a speed that satisfies the speed limit.
- the driver can reject the notification from the notification unit.
- the second determination unit 13 determines whether the driver's action corresponds to the rejection action stored in the memory unit 16. If the second determination unit 13 does not determine that the driver has rejected the notification, that is, if the driver does not reject the setting change, the control unit 1 performs control to change the setting. For example, the control unit 1 changes the target vehicle speed to a speed that satisfies the speed limit. The setting unit 14 sets the changed target speed. On the other hand, if the second determination unit 13 determines that the driver has performed a refusal action, that is, if the driver has refused to change the setting, the control unit 1 performs control to maintain the setting. For example, the setting unit 14 leaves the target vehicle speed as it is.
- control unit 1 transmits a command signal to at least one of the driving force output device 6, the brake device 7, and the damper device 8 to generate at least one of acceleration/deceleration, braking force, and damping force. This makes it possible to realize adaptive driving mode control based on the changed target speed.
- the refusal operation is an acceleration operation or a deceleration operation
- the first determination unit 12 determines that the vehicle speed can be reduced and the notification unit issues a notification, and the driver performs an acceleration operation
- the control unit 1 can perform control to maintain the speed without reducing it.
- the first determination unit 12 determines that the vehicle speed can be increased and the notification unit issues a notification, and the driver performs a deceleration operation
- the control unit 1 can perform control to maintain the speed without increasing it. For example, suppose that the speed indicated by a speed limit sign is lower than the target speed, and therefore the target speed can be reduced, and the display 51 notifies the driver.
- the control unit 1 maintains the target speed and continues automatic driving at that target speed. Also, suppose that the speed indicated by the speed limit sign is higher than the target speed, and therefore a notification that the target speed can be increased is received from the display 51. In this case, if the driver, viewing the display 51, performs a deceleration operation (e.g., rotating the accelerator grip 41 toward the closing side, gripping the brake lever switch 43, or depressing the brake pedal switch 44), the control unit 1 maintains the target speed and continues automatic driving at that target speed.
- a deceleration operation e.g., rotating the accelerator grip 41 toward the closing side, gripping the brake lever switch 43, or depressing the brake pedal switch 44
- the target damping force can be changed, and the notification unit can notify the driver that the target damping force can be changed.
- the driver can refuse the notification from the notification unit. If the driver refuses, the control unit 1 performs control to maintain the target damping force. On the other hand, if the driver does not refuse, the control unit 1 performs control to change the target damping force.
- the setting unit 14 sets the changed target damping force.
- the control unit 1 sends a command signal to the damper device 8, which generates the changed damping force in time with the vehicle running over a bump.
- control unit 1 switches the suspension control mode from hard to soft. After the vehicle passes over a bump, the target damping force is changed again, and the suspension control mode is switched from soft to hard.
- the camera 2 captures an image of the road surface ahead while the vehicle is traveling and the control unit 1 recognizes a bump.
- FIG. 2 is a flowchart showing the processing of the driving assistance method of this embodiment.
- the description will be given taking as an example a case where the vehicle is traveling at a constant speed in CC, the camera 2 captures an image of a speed limit sign, and the control unit 1 recognizes the speed limit sign.
- the first determination unit 12 determines whether the target speed set in the CC can be changed (step S1). This determination is based on the recognition result of the control unit 1. If the target speed cannot be changed (No in step S1), constant speed driving at the set target speed is maintained (step S4), and the process of FIG. 2 ends. On the other hand, if the target speed can be changed (Yes in step S1), the notification unit notifies the driver that the change is possible (step S2). Next, the second determination unit 13 determines whether a refusal action has been input, i.e., whether the driver has performed a refusal action (step S3). If a refusal action has been input (Yes in step S3), the control unit 1 maintains the target speed (step S4).
- the setting unit 14 does not change the setting, and constant speed driving at the target speed continues. Then, the process of FIG. 2 ends.
- the control unit 1 changes the target speed (step S5).
- the setting unit 14 sets the target speed based on the recognition result of the control unit 1.
- the control unit 1 sends a command signal to at least one of the driving force output device 6, the brake device 7, and the damper device 8 to generate at least one of acceleration/deceleration, braking force, and damping force. This starts adaptive traveling at the changed target speed.
- the processing in FIG. 2 ends.
- the process of FIG. 2 is repeated while the vehicle is running. Furthermore, depending on the type of the refusal action, the process of FIG. 2 is performed for the type of setting selected by the selection unit 15.
- the speed when the speed can be reduced, the speed can be maintained by accelerating, and when the speed can be increased, the speed can be maintained by decelerating, thereby preventing changes that the driver does not want and realizing driving assistance that does not feel strange to the driver.
- the driver's actions captured by the imaging unit as rejected actions, it is possible to prevent changes that the driver does not want, and to realize driving assistance that does not cause discomfort to the driver.
- the driver can refuse the change without having to move his or her eyes to operate a switch, etc., so that changes that the driver does not want can be easily prevented.
- the driver's actions can be captured with high precision, improving the accuracy of determining whether or not the driver has performed a refusal action.
- the vehicle speed as the target speed
- the vehicle can travel at a speed that is comfortable for the driver.
- the vehicle to the damping force setting of the shock absorber the vehicle can be driven with a damping force that is comfortable for the driver.
- the vehicle to the target speed and the damping force of the shock absorber the vehicle can be driven at a speed and damping force that is comfortable for the driver.
- the driver can easily select the type of setting that he or she wishes to change or maintain, thereby realizing driving assistance that does not feel strange to the driver.
- the present invention is not limited to motorcycles, but can also be applied to saddle-type vehicles such as scooters, saddle-type three-wheeled vehicles, saddle-type four-wheeled vehicles, and motorized bicycles.
- the drive source of the vehicle may be an internal combustion engine, a rotating electric machine, or a combination of these.
- the power source for the rotating electric machine may be a secondary battery, a capacitor, or a fuel cell.
- the prime mover that drives the drive source may include a fuel injection device, a motor, or the like.
- the vehicle settings maintained or changed by the control unit 1 may include settings related to the control of the prime mover (for example, a mode related to the output characteristics of the prime mover).
- a brake control mode can be prepared according to road surface conditions.
- the brake control modes include, but are not limited to, first to third brake control modes.
- the first brake control mode is a brake control mode for driving on road surfaces with a high road friction coefficient, such as dry road surfaces.
- the second brake control mode is a brake control mode for driving on road surfaces with a low road friction coefficient, such as wet road surfaces.
- the third brake control mode is a brake control mode for driving on special road surfaces, such as manholes, fallen leaves, puddles, and cobblestone roads (Belgian roads).
- the setting unit 14 can set a target braking force during execution of adaptive driving mode control (or manual driving mode control).
- the vehicle settings maintained or changed by the control unit 1 can include settings related to switching between multiple types of brake control modes (settings related to braking effectiveness).
- the notification unit notifies the driver that the first determination unit 12 has determined that the brake control mode can be switched and the driver does not refuse, the control unit 1 switches the brake control mode. Furthermore, if the driver refuses to operate the brake control mode, the control unit 1 maintains the brake control mode. The same can be done to maintain or change the target braking force.
- the vehicle settings that the control unit 1 maintains or changes can include a mode related to the damping characteristics of the suspension, a mode related to height control, and the like.
- the vehicle settings are maintained or changed based on the object recognized in the image captured by the camera 2.
- the vehicle settings can also be maintained or changed taking into account the measurement results of a LIDAR (Laser Detection and Ranging) or radar installed in the vehicle.
- LIDAR Laser Detection and Ranging
- the present invention can also be applied to the case of switching from manual driving mode control to adaptive driving mode control (e.g., CC, ACC, ISA). That is, the notification unit notifies the driver that the first determination unit 12 has determined that switching from manual driving mode control to adaptive driving mode control is possible, and if the driver does not refuse, the control unit 1 can switch to adaptive driving mode control. Also, if the driver refuses, the control unit 1 can maintain manual driving mode control.
- the camera 2 may be configured to operate constantly while the vehicle is traveling, or may be configured to operate when a predetermined condition is met while the vehicle is traveling.
- the predetermined condition may be, for example, but is not limited to, that the vehicle speed exceeds a predetermined value.
- the vehicle sensor 3 is used to detect the vehicle's running state.
- a position determination means for determining the vehicle's running position may be introduced. Examples of the position determination means include, but are not limited to, a GPS (Global Positioning System) and a GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System).
- the position determination means may be used to track the change in the vehicle's running position over time, determine the vehicle speed, and apply this to adaptive running mode control.

しかし、車両に設けたLIDAR(Laser Detection and Ranging)やレーダの測定結果を加味して車両の設定の維持又は変更を行うこともできる。
位置判断手段としては、例えば、GPS(Global Positioning System)やGNSS(Global Navigation Satellite System)があるが、これらに限定されない。
