- Lithium secondary batteries have a problem of low safety, while having excellent electrical characteristics.
- lithium secondary batteries generate heat and gas due to decomposition reactions of active materials and electrolytes, which are battery components, during abnormal operating conditions such as overcharge, overdischarge, exposure to high temperatures, and electrical short circuits, resulting in high temperature and high pressure. The condition of further accelerates the decomposition reaction, and eventually causes ignition or explosion.
- battery evaluation tests that evaluate heat generation behavior during internal short circuits are, for example, UL standards for lithium batteries (UL1642), guidelines from the Battery Industry Association (SBA G1101-1997 Lithium Secondary Battery Safety Evaluation Criteria Guideline), etc.
- a heating element is inserted inside the battery cell and internal heat is generated by the heating element, a method in which an internal separator is pre-pierced and chemically treated to melt at a constant temperature, and a certain type of There was a method of inducing an internal short circuit by inserting a metal material and applying an external force to tear the separator.
- the shape of the product actually used is different due to the heating element inside the cell and the external heating source. Due to this, there was a problem that properties may be different from existing products and desired reactions may not occur due to side reactions caused by chemical reactions inside the cell.
- the present invention has been devised to solve the above problems, and a secondary battery for testing and a manufacturing method thereof for precisely evaluating internal short circuits to a minute level inside the battery without physically deforming the battery cell structure, and a method for manufacturing the same.

- a fully charged evaluation battery is first prepared, an internal short circuit is generated, and the behavior of the battery is evaluated.
- the battery is discharged and the voltage decreases, and tests are conducted until the voltage decreases below a certain value to evaluate whether or not there is a rupture, voltage, temperature, etc. of the battery.
- an insulator made of wax is placed between the positive and negative electrodes to physically separate the positive and negative electrodes. . Then, when the battery is charged and discharged and the internal temperature of the battery rises to the melting point of the wax, the wax is removed and the positive and negative electrodes come into direct contact, causing a short circuit inside the battery.
- the conventional internal short-circuit induction device creates a hole by perforating a part of the separator. After inserting a metal block such as copper into the hole, a wax layer is interposed on one side of the metal block.
- the positive electrode plate is attached to the portion of the separator where the wax layer is not interposed, and the negative electrode plate is attached to the wax layer.
- a secondary battery for evaluating short-circuit induction includes a positive electrode, a negative electrode, a separator disposed between the positive electrode and the negative electrode, and a short-circuit inducing member at a predetermined portion on one or both sides of the separator, wherein the short-circuit inducing member is connected to a metal pattern layer. It may have a structure in which an insulation wax covering the metal pattern layer is applied.
- the secondary battery for evaluating short-circuit induction of the present invention includes a short-circuit inducing member therein, and the internal short-circuit inducing member serves as a kind of switch and is activated by an external mechanism such as an increase in temperature or pressure. That is, the separator coupled to the short-circuit inducing member is deformed due to external pressure or temperature rise in the test process or actual use of the battery, and when the temperature rises above a certain condition, the insulating layer is melted and the negative electrode and the positive electrode are melted through the short-circuit inducing member. This leads to an internal short circuit.
- a predetermined area on one or both sides of the separator indicates a test area to be evaluated for an internal short circuit of a secondary battery
- the formation area of the short-circuit inducing member is in the range of 1 ⁇ m 2 to 1000 mm 2 , 1 ⁇ m 2 to 100 mm 2 range, It may be in the range of 1 ⁇ m 2 to 1 mm 2 , 100 mm 2 to 100 mm 2 , or 1 ⁇ m 2 to 100 ⁇ m 2 . If the formation area of the short inducing member is smaller than the above range, there is a problem in that the manufacturing process of the short inducing member to be coupled to the corresponding area increases.
- the area of the separator including the short inducing member widens and the battery Accurate evaluation may be difficult because side reactions occur due to unwanted internal chemical reactions. Meanwhile, the area may be appropriately changed according to the type and characteristics of the secondary battery and the purpose of evaluating the short circuit inside the secondary battery.
- the metal pattern layer serves to induce an internal short circuit by contacting the positive and negative electrodes and electrically connecting the positive and negative electrodes. That is, the pattern of the metal pattern layer may be formed by a fine patterning method.
- a pattern width of the metal pattern layer may range from 1 nm to 100 ⁇ m. When the pattern width of the metal pattern layer is less than 1 nm, the difficulty of the fine patterning method increases and the manufacturing efficiency decreases, and the metal pattern layer may be easily separated or deformed and destroyed even with a weak external force. On the other hand, when the thickness exceeds 100 ⁇ m, fine control of the density of the metal pattern may be difficult.
- the thickness of the metal pattern layer may be 1% to 200% of the pattern width of the metal pattern layer.
- the thickness of the metal pattern layer means the thickness from the contact point between the metal pattern layer and the separator. If the thickness of the metal pattern layer is less than 1% of the pattern width of the metal pattern layer, even if the insulating layer is melted, it is difficult for the metal pattern layer to contact both the anode and the cathode at the same time, which may cause a short circuit.
- the width of the pattern layer exceeds 200%, the volume of the short-circuit inducing member including the metal pattern layer may increase, and a short circuit inside the battery may occur even in a sensitive reaction.
- the metal pattern layer may be a metal material that does not react with components such as an electrolyte and has good electrical conductivity, and may be made of a single metal of any one of aluminum, copper, and titanium, and includes one or more of the above metals. may be made of an alloy. Preferably it may be aluminum or copper.
- the metal pattern layer may be composed of a single layer of a single metal layer of any one of aluminum, copper and titanium or a single layer of an alloy layer including any one or more of aluminum, copper and titanium, and the metal layer and the alloy layer are multi-layered. It may be a composite layer that is laminated.
- the insulating layer may be a wax layer, and when the secondary battery reaches a certain temperature, it is easily melted and exposes a metal pattern layer covered by the insulating layer to induce an internal short circuit due to contact between the metal pattern layer and the positive and negative electrodes. On the other hand, when the secondary battery does not reach a certain temperature, it serves as an insulator to prevent a short circuit during charging and discharging of the battery, thereby preventing a short circuit from occurring when the negative electrode and the positive electrode are electrically connected through the metal metal pattern layer.
- a thickness of the insulating layer may be 101% to 200% of the thickness of the metal pattern layer.
- the thickness of the insulating layer is within the above range, the structure of the insulating layer is not easily destroyed even when the short-circuit inducing member receives an external force, and structural stability may be obtained.
- the insulating layer is a layer covering the metal pattern layer and may have a thickness equal to or greater than that of the metal pattern layer. If the thickness of the insulating layer is less than 101% of the thickness of the metal pattern layer, the metal pattern layer cannot be sufficiently covered, and the insulating layer is easily melted even when a small amount of heat is supplied, exposing the metal pattern layer, resulting in unwanted internal short circuits. It can be. On the other hand, if the thickness of the insulating layer exceeds 200% of the thickness of the metal pattern layer, the volume of the short-circuit inducing member may increase, and unwanted side reactions may occur due to chemical reactions inside the battery due to continuous heat source supply to melt the insulating layer. There are problems in that some wax may remain and interfere with short circuiting, and evaluation takes a lot of time.
- the insulating layer may be freely selected according to a set temperature that causes a short circuit as long as it is not involved in the chemical reaction of the battery, and may be a hydrocarbon mixture including an insoluble alcohol fatty acid ester and an alkane having 1 to 40 carbon atoms, , Specifically, a paraffin-based compound having 1 to 40 carbon atoms is preferred in view of the melting temperature.
- the paraffin is sensitive to heat generation, and when melted, short-circuits the inside of the battery, can quickly lower the temperature of the battery, and has the advantage of not causing side effects such as battery performance degradation and capacity reduction.
- paraffin is a general term for paraffin wax or liquid paraffin made of paraffinic hydrocarbons, and these materials are weakly reactive and resistant to chemicals.
- the paraffin wax is a colorless translucent solid and is also referred to as solid paraffin
- liquid paraffin is a colorless liquid.
- paraffin wax since the wax layer exists in a solid state to electrically insulate the cathode and the anode, paraffin wax, which is solid paraffin, can be used.
- the main component of paraffin wax is a straight-chain paraffinic hydrocarbon, which can be expressed as CH 3 (CH 2 )nCH 3 .
- the number of carbon atoms is in the range of 16 to 40, and the main component is 20 to 30 carbon atoms.
- the melting point of paraffin wax may vary depending on the degree of purification and components within the range of 47 to 65 ° C. Paraffin contained in the paraffin sheet serves to prevent overheating by absorbing ambient heat and melting. Therefore, in consideration of the heat of fusion, it is possible to use paraffin having a melting point suitable for the need.
- the paraffin according to the present invention exhibits high fluidity (low viscosity) when melted, it is easily melted when the temperature of the battery rises and may cause an internal short circuit.
- additives may be further included in the insulating layer within a range that does not impair physical properties such as paraffin and does not affect the operation mechanism of the battery, thereby improving performance such as the meltability of the porous wax layer.
- the melting temperature of the insulating layer is determined according to the components or composition of the wax constituting the insulating layer, preferably 40 to 80 ° C, more preferably 50 to 70 ° C. If the temperature at which the internal short-circuit occurs is less than 40°C, an unwanted internal short-circuit may occur at the temperature at which the battery is actually used. Since abnormal phenomena occur due to side reactions, there is a problem in that it is difficult to see the effect of a pure internal short circuit.
