例えば、特許文献1には、基材への密着性に優れ、残存モノマー量が少ない硬化膜を得ることができる硬化膜形成方法として、記録媒体上に重合性モノマーを含む硬化性組成物を付与する組成物付与工程と、上記硬化性組成物に2種以上の活性エネルギー線を照射する照射工程と、を含み、上記照射工程における活性エネルギー線として、加速電圧が130kV以下の電子線を少なくとも用い、上記照射工程において、上記電子線を吸収線量20~75kGyとなるように照射する硬化膜形成方法が開示されている。
一方、環境配慮の観点から、非浸透性基材上に画像が記録されてなる画像記録物をリサイクルすることも検討されている。上記リサイクルを目的とし、上記画像記録物をアルカリ水溶液に浸漬し、非浸透性基材から画像を剥離することが検討されている。この場合の画像の剥離性(以下、アルカリ剥離性ともいう)が要求される場合がある。
これらの要求に関し、画像の密着性を向上させようとするとアルカリ剥離性が低下する場合があり、また、画像のアルカリ剥離性を向上させようとすると密着性が低下する場合がある。

本開示において、アルカリ剥離層とは、非浸透性基材と画像との間に介在し、アルカリ水溶液と接触した場合に、非浸透性基材から画像を剥離させる機能を有する層を意味する。
アルカリ剥離層は、アルカリ可溶性を有することが好ましい。
ここで、アルカリ可溶性とは、固体物質を85℃の1.5質量%水酸化ナトリウム水溶液に浸漬した場合に、固体物質が分解若しくは溶解し、固体状態を保てなくなる性質を意味する。
詳細には、本開示の画像記録方法によれば、非浸透性基材上にアルカリ剥離層及び画像がこの順に配置された構造を有する画像記録物が得られる。得られる画像記録物は、画像と非浸透性基材とのアルカリ剥離層を介した密着性に優れ、かつ、アルカリ剥離層にアルカリ水溶液を接触させた場合の非浸透性基材からの画像の剥離性に優れる。
本開示の画像記録方法は、非浸透性基材上にアルカリ剥離層形成用インクを付与する工程を含む。
本開示において、非浸透性基材とは、ASTM試験法のASTM D570で吸水率(単位:質量%、測定時間:24時間)が0.2未満である基材を指す。
樹脂基材としては、特に制限はなく、例えば熱可塑性樹脂の基材が挙げられる。
樹脂基材としては、例えば、熱可塑性樹脂を、ボトル等の立体形状、シート形状、フィルム形状等の各種形状に成形した基材が挙げられる。
表面処理としては、コロナ処理、プラズマ処理、フレーム処理、熱処理、摩耗処理、光照射処理(UV処理)、火炎処理等が挙げられるが、これらに限定されるものではない。
これらの非浸透性基材を用いた画像記録では、画像の密着性及びアルカリ剥離性が要求されることが多いので、本開示の画像記録方法を適用する意義が大きい。
非浸透性基材へのアルカリ剥離層形成用インクの付与は、塗布法、インクジェット法、浸漬法などの公知の方法を適用して行なうことができる。
塗布法としては、バーコーター(例えばワイヤーバーコーター)、エクストルージョンダイコーター、エアードクターコーター、ブレードコーター、ロッドコーター、ナイフコーター、スクイズコーター、リバースロールコーター、グラビアコーター、フレキソコーター等を用いた公知の塗布法が挙げられる。
インクジェット法の詳細については、後述する電子線硬化用インクジェットインクを付与する工程を付与する工程に適用され得るインクジェット法と同様である。
本工程で用いられるアルカリ剥離層形成用インクは、前述の通り、アルカリ剥離層を形成するためのインクである。
以下、アルカリ剥離層形成用インク(以下、「剥離インク」ともいう)の好ましい態様を説明する。
剥離インクは、酸基を含む化合物を少なくとも1種含有することが好ましい。
これにより、形成されるアルカリ剥離層の機能(即ち、非浸透性基材と画像との間に介在し、アルカリ水溶液と接触した場合に、非浸透性基材から画像を剥離させる機能)がより効果的に発揮される。この理由は、酸基を含む化合物を含有するアルカリ剥離層中において、酸基を含む化合物がアルカリと反応して塩を形成することにより、アルカリ剥離層の水溶性が向上するためと考えられる。
酸基を含む重合性化合物としては、酸基を含む重合性モノマー(即ち、即ち、酸基と重合性基とを含み、分子量が1000以下である化合物)が好ましい。
エチレン性不飽和基としては、(メタ)アクリロイル基、ビニル基、アリル基、又はスチリル基が好ましく、(メタ)アクリロイル基又はビニル基がより好ましい。
剥離インクは、形成されるアルカリ剥離層の機能をより向上させ、かつ、画像と非浸透性基材との密着性をより向上させる観点から、酸基を含む重合性化合物を少なくとも1種含有することが好ましく、酸基を含む重合性モノマーを少なくとも1種含有することがより好ましい。
また、前述のとおり、酸基を含む化合物は、分子量1000超の高分子化合物であってもよい。分子量1000超の高分子化合物は、重合性基を含んでいてもよい。
分子量1000超の高分子化合物としては、市販品を用いてもよい。
市販品としては、例えば、
Rahn社製「GENOMER 7151」(カルボキシ変性ポリエステルアクリレート)、
東亞合成社製「ARUFON(登録商標) UF-5000」、
等が挙げられる。
剥離インクは、画像と非浸透性基材とのアルカリ剥離層を介した密着性をより向上させる観点から、重合性モノマーを少なくとも1種含有することが好ましい。
ここで、重合性モノマーとは、重合性基を含む分子量1000以下の化合物を意味する。
ここでいう重合性モノマーは、前述した酸基を含む重合性モノマーであってもよいし、酸基を含まない重合性モノマーであってもよい。
酸基を含む重合性モノマーについては、酸基を含む化合物の一態様として既に説明したとおりである。
以下、酸基を含まない重合性モノマーを中心に、重合性モノマーの好ましい態様及び具体例について説明する。
重合性モノマーの分子量の下限は、例えば、58(メチルビニルエーテルの分子量)である。
単官能の重合性モノマーは、重合性基を1つ含む化合物であれば特に限定されない。単官能の重合性モノマーは、硬化性の観点から、単官能のラジカル重合性モノマーであることが好ましく、単官能のエチレン性不飽和モノマーであることがより好ましい。
多官能の重合性モノマーは、重合性基を2つ以上含むモノマーであれば特に限定されない。多官能の重合性モノマーは、硬化性の観点から、多官能のラジカル重合性モノマーであることが好ましく、多官能のエチレン性不飽和モノマーであることがより好ましい。
多官能のエチレン性不飽和モノマーとしては、例えば、多官能の(メタ)アクリレート化合物及び多官能のビニルエーテルが挙げられる。
この場合、画像のアルカリ剥離性をより向上させる観点から、剥離インクに含有される重合性モノマーの全量中に占める多官能の重合性モノマーの割合は、好ましくは30質量%以上であり、より好ましくは50質量%以上であり、更に好ましくは60質量%以上である。
上記多官能の重合性モノマーの割合は、100質量%であってもよい。
この場合、剥離インクに含有される重合性モノマーの全量中に占める、2官能の重合性モノマー及び3官能の重合性モノマーの合計の割合は、好ましくは30質量%以上であり、より好ましくは50質量%以上であり、更に好ましくは60質量%以上である。
上記2官能の重合性モノマー及び3官能の重合性モノマーの合計の割合は、100質量%であってもよい。
この場合、剥離インクに含有される重合性モノマーの全量中に占める2官能の重合性モノマーの割合は、好ましくは30質量%以上であり、より好ましくは50質量%以上であり、更に好ましくは60質量%以上である。
本開示の剥離インクが重合性モノマー(即ち、酸基を含む重合性モノマー及び/又は酸基を含まない重合性モノマー)を含有する場合、本開示の剥離インクは、電子線硬化用インクであることがより好ましい。これにより、画像の密着性がより向上する。
本開示において、画像を得るための最終的な硬化(即ち、上記電子線の照射による硬化)を、「本硬化」と称することがある。
本開示において、本硬化の前に、紫外線(例えば、LED光)によるピニング露光によってインクを硬化させることを、「仮硬化」と称することがある。
本開示における電子線硬化用インクは、電子線の照射によって本硬化させることを目的とするインクであるが、ピニング露光によって仮硬化する性質を有していてもよい。
上記少なくとも一方を満足するインクは、紫外線の照射によっては硬化が不十分である場合がある。しかし、上記少なくとも一方を満足するインクは、電子線の照射によれば、十分に硬化され得る。
溶出しやすい成分としては、低分子量の化合物(例えば、分子量500未満の光重合開始剤)が挙げられる。
本開示の画像記録方法により、前述した非浸透性基材としての樹脂製の飲料容器又は樹脂製の食品包装材料に対して画像を記録する場合には、マイグレーション(即ち、画像からの成分の溶出)を抑制する意義が特に大きい。
電子線硬化用インクである態様の剥離インクは、高分子開始剤X(即ち、分子量500以上の水素引き抜き型重合開始剤)を少なくとも1種含有することが好ましい。
これにより、剥離インクの硬化性がより向上するので、形成されるアルカリ剥離層の機能がより向上する。
高分子開始剤Xの分子量が500以上であることは、マイグレーション抑制のに寄与する。
高分子開始剤Xが水素引き抜き型であることは、電子線の照射に対する硬化性に寄与する。
高分子開始剤Xとしてのチオキサントン化合物としては、下記式(S1)で表される化合物が挙げられる。
高分子開始剤Xとしてのベンゾフェノン化合物としては、下記式(S2)で表される化合物が挙げられる。
具体的には、

電子線硬化用インクである態様の剥離インクは、高分子開始剤X以外の重合開始剤を少なくとも1種含有してもよい。
ただし、マイグレーション抑制の観点から、剥離インクの全量に対する高分子開始剤X以外の重合開始剤の総含有量は、1質量%未満であることが好ましい。
ここで、「剥離インクの全量に対する高分子開始剤X以外の重合開始剤の総含有量は、1質量%未満である」との概念には、剥離インクが、高分子開始剤X以外の重合開始剤を含有しない場合(即ち、総含有量が0質量%である場合)も包含される。
低分子開始剤としては、例えば、
ビス(2,4,6-トリメチルベンゾイル)フェニルホスフィンオキシド(例えば、IGM Resins B.V.社製のOmnirad 819)、
2-イソプロピルチオキサントン、
等が挙げられる。
低分子開始剤については、例えば、国際公開第2021/193230号の段落0070、0072、0076、及び0077を参照できる。
剥離インクは、更に、分子量500以上のアミン(以下、「高分子アミン」ともいう)を少なくとも1種含有してもよい。
この場合、高分子アミンの含有量は、好ましくは、剥離インクの全量に対し、0質量%超5質量%以下であり、より好ましくは0.1質量%~5.0質量%である。
高分子アミンとしては、例えば、下記式(X)で表される化合物が挙げられる。
〔式(X)中、R1、R2、及びR3は、それぞれ独立に、水素原子又は置換基を表す。但し、R1、R2、及びR3は、式(X)で表される化合物の分子量が500以上となるように選択される。〕
また、R1、R2、及びR3が、(メタ)アクリロイルオキシ基を含むことも好ましい態様である。

高分子アミンの分子量の上限は、好ましくは10000であり、より好ましくは7000であり、更に好ましくは5000である。
この場合、高分子アミンとして、分子量1000以上のアミンと、分子量500以上100未満のアミンと、を併用してもよい。
高分子アミン中に占める、分子量1000以上のアミンの割合は、好ましくは50質量%~100質量%であり、より好ましくは60質量%~100質量%であり、更に好ましくは80質量%~100質量%である。
剥離インクは、更に、シリコーン系界面活性剤を少なくとも1種含有してもよい。
ここで、シリコーン系界面活性剤とは、シロキサン構造を含む界面活性剤である。シリコーン系界面活性剤としては、例えば、BYK-UV3500、3505、3510、3530、3570、3575、3576、3760、378、375、306、333、377、330、307、342、302、300、331、325、320、315N,326,322(以上、BYK社製);TEGORad2100、2200、2250、2300、2500、2600、2700、2010;TEGOGlide100、110、130、406、410,411,415,420,432,435,440,450,482、A115、B1484、ZG400;及び、TEGOFlow300、370、425、ATF2、ZFS 460(以上、エボニック社製)が挙げられる。
シリコーン系界面活性剤の含有量の上限は、インクの全量に対し、好ましくは10質量%であり、より好ましくは5質量%である。
剥離インクは、更に、シリコーン系界面活性剤以外のその他の界面活性剤を少なくとも1種含有してもよい。
また、その他の界面活性剤としては、例えば、アクリル系界面活性剤、フッ素系界面活性剤等が挙げられる。
剥離インクは、必要に応じて、上記成分以外のその他の成分を含有していてもよい。その他の成分としては、例えば、有機溶剤等が挙げられる。
ここで、「剥離インクの全量に対する顔料の含有量は、1質量%未満である」との概念には、剥離インクが、顔料を含有しない場合(即ち、含有量が0質量%である場合)も包含される。
剥離インクは、インクジェットインクであることが好ましい。
剥離インクがインクジェットインクである場合には、剥離インクの次に付与される画像記録用のインクもインクジェットインクであることから、画像記録装置の構成を簡略化できる。
また、剥離インクがインクジェットインクである場合には、画像を記録しようとする領域など、必要な領域にのみ剥離インクを選択的に付与できるという効果も奏される。
インクジェットインクである場合の剥離インクの粘度は、0.5mPa・s~30mPa・sであることが好ましく、2mPa・s~20mPa・sであることがより好ましく、2mPa・s~15mPa・sであることが好ましく、3mPa・s~10mPa・sであることがさらに好ましい。
粘度は、粘度計を用いて25℃で測定され、例えば、東機産業社製のTV-22型粘度計を用いて測定される。
表面張力は、表面張力計を用いて25℃で測定され、例えば、協和界面科学社製の自動表面張力計(製品名「CBVP-Z」)を用いて、プレート法によって測定される。
剥離インクを付与する工程は、非浸透性基材上に付与された剥離インクに対し、波長300nm~波長395nmの放射線(即ち、紫外線(UV))を照射することを更に含んでもよい。
この放射線の照射は、ピニング露光として有効である。
即ち、ピニング露光としての上記放射線の照射により、非浸透性基材上に付与された剥離インクを仮硬化させることができる。これにより、電子線の照射による本硬化の効果がより効果的に得られ、その結果、得られるアルカリ剥離層の機能がより向上し、また、画像と非浸透性基材とのアルカリ剥離層を介した密着性もより向上する。
UV光源として、好ましくはLED(Light Emitting Diode)光源である。
また、剥離インクの反応率は、75%以下であることが好ましく、50%以下であることがより好ましく、40%以下であることが好ましく、30%以下であることがより好ましく、25%以下であることがさらに好ましい。
インクに対する活性エネルギー線の照射終了までの操作が施された基材を準備する。この基材のインク膜が存在する領域から20mm×50mmの大きさのサンプル片(以下、照射後サンプル片とする)を切り出す。切り出した照射後サンプル片を、10mLのTHF(テトラヒドロフラン)中に24時間浸漬し、インクが溶出した溶出液を得る。得られた溶出液について、高速液体クロマトグラフィーにより、重合性モノマーの量(以下、「照射後モノマー量X1」とする)を求める。
別途、基材上のインクに対して活性エネルギー線を照射しないこと以外は上記と同じ操作を実施し、重合性モノマーの量(以下、「未照射時モノマー量X1」とする)を求める。
照射後モノマー量X1及び未照射時モノマー量X1に基づき、下記式により、インクの反応率(%)を求める。
インクの反応率(%) = ((未照射時モノマー量X1-照射後モノマー量X1)/未照射時モノマー量X1)×100
本開示の画像記録方法は、非浸透性基材上に付与された剥離インク上に、顔料及び重合性モノマーを含有する電子線硬化用インクジェットインク(以下、「画像用インク」ともいう)を付与する工程を含む。
剥離インク上に付与された画像用インクを、後述の電子線を照射する工程において本硬化させることにより、画像が得られる。
本工程で付与される画像用インクは、1種(即ち、1色のインク)のみであってもよいし、2種以上(即ち、2色以上のインクからなるインクセット)であってもよい。
画像用インクの付与は、インクジェット記録方式を適用して行う。
インクジェット記録方式による画像用インクの付与は、画像を記録し得る方式であれば特に限定されず、公知の方式を用いることができる。
インクジェット記録方式としては、例えば、静電誘引力を利用してインクを吐出させる電荷制御方式、ピエゾ素子の振動圧力を利用するドロップオンデマンド方式(圧力パルス方式)、電気信号を音響ビームに変えインクに照射して放射圧を利用してインクを吐出させる音響インクジェット方式、及び、インクを加熱して気泡を形成し、生じた圧力を利用するサーマルインクジェット(バブルジェット(登録商標))方式が挙げられる。
以下、画像用インク(即ち、顔料及び重合性モノマーを含有する電子線硬化用インクジェットインク)について説明する。
画像用インクは、顔料を少なくとも1種含有する。
顔料は、通常市販されている有機顔料及び無機顔料のいずれであってもよい。
顔料としては、例えば、伊藤征司郎編「顔料の辞典」(2000年刊)、W.Herbst,K.Hunger「Industrial Organic Pigments」、特開2002-12607号公報、特開2002-188025号公報、特開2003-26978号公報及び特開2003-342503号公報に記載の顔料が挙げられる。
着色顔料としては、シアン顔料、マゼンタ顔料、イエロー顔料、及びブラック顔料が挙げられるが、その他の色相を有する顔料であってもよい。
例えば、画像用インクを付与する工程において、少なくとも2種の画像用インクを用いる場合、少なくとも2種の画像用インクは、白色顔料を含有する白色インクと、着色顔料を含有する着色インクと、を含んでもよい。この場合、着色インクは1種のみでも2種以上であってもよい。例えば、2種以上の着色インクとして、シアン顔料を含有するシアンインク、マゼンタ顔料を含有するマゼンタインク、イエロー顔料を含有するイエローインク、及びブラック顔料を含有するブラックインクからなる2種以上を用いてもよい。
顔料分散液は、顔料を分散剤を用いて液状媒体中に分散させることにより得られる液体であり、顔料、分散剤、及び液状媒体を少なくとも含む。
液状媒体としては、例えば有機溶剤が挙げられる。
また、液状媒体は、画像用インクに含有させる重合性モノマーであってもよい。
なお、顔料として、自己分散性顔料を用いる場合には、インクに分散剤を含有させなくてもよい。
分散剤としては、例えば、高級脂肪酸塩、アルキル硫酸塩、アルキルエステル硫酸塩、アルキルスルホン酸塩、スルホコハク酸塩、ナフタレンスルホン酸塩、アルキルリン酸塩、ポリオキシアルキレンアルキルエーテルリン酸塩、ポリオキシアルキレンアルキルフェニルエーテル、ポリオキシエチレンポリオキシプロピレングリコール、グリセリン脂肪酸エステル、ソルビタン脂肪酸エステル、ポリオキシエチレン脂肪酸アミド、アミンオキシド等の分子量1000未満の低分子量分散剤が挙げられる。

画像用インクは、重合性モノマーを少なくとも1種含有する。
画像用インクに含有される重合性モノマーの具体例及び好ましい態様(インク中における好ましい含有量を含む。以下同じ。)は、前述した剥離インクに含有され得る重合性モノマーの具体例及び好ましい態様と同様である。
画像用インクに含有され得る上記以外のその他の成分の具体例及び好ましい態様(インク中における好ましい含有量を含む。以下同じ。)は、前述した、電子線硬化用インクである態様の剥離インクに含有され得る成分の具体例及び好ましい態様と同様である。
本開示の画像記録方法では、画像用インク及び剥離インクの少なくとも一方が、この条件X1を満足することが好ましく、画像用インク及び剥離インクの両方が、上記条件X1を満足することがより好ましい。
本開示の画像記録方法では、画像用インク及び剥離インクの少なくとも一方が、この条件X2を満足することが好ましく、画像用インク及び剥離インクの両方が、上記条件X2を満足することがより好ましい。
画像用インクを付与する工程は、非浸透性基材上に付与された画像用インクに対し、波長300nm~波長395nmの放射線(即ち、紫外線(UV))を照射することを更に含んでもよい。
この放射線の照射は、ピニング露光として有効である。
即ち、ピニング露光としての上記放射線の照射により、画像用インクを仮硬化させることができる。これにより、電子線の照射による本硬化の効果がより効果的に得られ、その結果、得られる画像の濃度がより向上する。
本開示の画像記録方法は、非浸透性基材上に付与された画像用インクに対し、電子線を照射する工程を含む。
本工程では、少なくとも、非浸透性基材上の画像用インクに対して電子線を照射する。
本工程では、非浸透性基材上の画像用インク及び剥離インクに対してまとめて電子線を照射してもよい。剥離インクが電子線硬化用インクである場合、画像用インク及び剥離インクに対してまとめて電子線を照射することにより、画像と非浸透性基材とのアルカリ剥離層を介した密着性をより向上させることができ、また、アルカリ剥離層からのマイグレーションをより抑制できる。
電子線の照射条件は特に限定されない。
電子線の照射における加速電圧は、例えば50kV~200kVであり、好ましくは50kV~110kVである。
電子線の照射における線量は、例えば10kGy~100kGyであり、好ましくは線量30kGy~90kGyである。
電子線の照射における処理スピードは、例えば1m/分~200m/分である。
記録方法Aは、画像用インクを2種以上用いる方法である。
記録方法Aにおける画像用インクを付与する工程は、非浸透性基材上に付与された剥離インク上に、2種以上の画像用インクを付与する。
記録方法Aにおける電子線を照射する工程は、上記2種以上の画像用インクに対し、電子線を照射する。
記録方法Aによっても、本開示の画像記録方法による効果が得られる。
着色顔料を含有する着色インクとしては、シアン顔料を含有するシアンインク、マゼンタ顔料を含有するマゼンタインク、イエロー顔料を含有するイエローインク、及びブラック顔料を含有するブラックインクが挙げられる。
白色インクと着色インクとの組み合わせが好ましく、
白色インクと、シアンインク、マゼンタインク、イエローインク、及びブラックインクからなる群から選択される1種以上と、の組み合わせがより好ましい。
2種以上の画像用インクが、白色顔料を含有する白色インクと、着色顔料を含有する着色インクと、を含み、かつ、
画像用インクを付与する工程は、非浸透性基材上に付与された剥離インク上に、白色インクと着色インクとをこの順に付与する
態様である。
かかる好ましい態様では、非浸透性基材上の白色インク由来の白色画像を背景として、この白色画像上に、着色インク由来の着色画像(例えば、文字画像、図形画像等)を記録できる。これにより、視認性に優れた着色画像が得られる。
かかる好ましい態様の記録方法Aを、飲料容器に対する画像記録に適用した場合には、飲料に接触しない、容器の外側に画像を記録できる。
同様に、かかる好ましい態様の記録方法Aを、食品包装材料に対する画像記録に適用した場合には、食品に接触しない、包装材料の外側に画像を記録できる。このため、飲料又は食品分野の画像記録に好適である。
本開示の非浸透性基材用インクセットは、
剥離インク(即ち、アルカリ剥離層形成用インク)と、
画像用インク(即ち、顔料及び重合性モノマーを含有する電子線硬化用インクジェットインク)と、
を含む。
本開示の非浸透性基材用インクセットによれば、前述した本開示の画像記録方法を実施できる。
従って、本開示の非浸透性基材用インクセットによれば、前述した本開示の画像記録方法による効果と同様の効果が得られる。
「部」は、質量部を意味する。
以下に示すシアン分散物D1Cの組成に示す各成分を、分散機モーターミルM50(アイガー社製)に入れ、直径0.65mmのジルコニアビーズを用い、周速9m/sで4時間分散を行うことにより、シアン顔料分散物D1Cを得た。
マゼンタ分散物D1M、イエロー分散物D1Y、ブラック分散物D1K、及びホワイト分散物D1Wについても同様にして調製した。

画像記録装置として、以下のシングルパスインクジェット記録装置を用意した。
シングルパスインクジェット記録装置には、テーブル搬送系上に、搬送経路に沿って、シングルパス方式のインクジェットヘッド(詳細には、富士フイルムダイマテックス社製のSambaヘッド、1200npi、最小液適量2pL;以下、単に「ヘッド」ともいう)を6個配置し、各ヘッド間、及び、最下流ヘッドの下流に、ピニング露光用のLED光源(385nm、4W)を配置した。
各ヘッドに、インクCL1、インクW1、インクC1、インクM1、インクY1、及びインクK1を、上流側からこの順の配置となるように導入した。
最下流ヘッドの下流に配置されたピニング露光用のLED光源の更に下流に、本硬化用の電子線(EB)照射装置アイ・コンパクトEB(アイ・エレクトロンビーム社製)を配置した。
<シアン単色の画像記録>
搬送テーブル上に画像記録直前にコロナ処理を施した非浸透性基材(詳細には、フタムラ化学社製の太閤PET、厚さ50μm;以下、単に「基材」ともいう)をセットした。
基材を搬送速度50m/minにて搬送させ、搬送中の基材に対し、インクCL1用のヘッドからインクCL1(剥離インク)を網点率100%のソリッド画像状に付与し、付与されたインクCL1に対し、ピニング露光として、インクCL1用のヘッドの下流側に配置されたLED光源によってUV(紫外線)照射を施した。ピニング露光の条件は、UVを0.40W/cm2の照度にて0.024秒照射する条件とした(以下、ピニング露光は全てこの条件で実施した)。
ピニング露光が施されたインクCL1上に、インクC1用のヘッドからインクC1(シアンインク)を、網点率100%のソリッド画像状に付与し、付与されたインクC1に対し、インクC1用のヘッドの下流側に配置されたLED光源によってピニング露光を施した。
次いで、基材上のインクCL1及びインクC1に対し、アイ・コンパクトEB(アイ・エレクトロンビーム社製)を用い、加速電圧90KV、照射線量60KGyの条件で、EB(電子線)照射を施し、これらのインクを硬化させた(以下、「本硬化」ともいう)。
シアン単色の画像記録物について、以下の評価を実施した。
結果を表1に示す。
画像記録物におけるシアン画像に対し、ISO2409(クロスカット法)に準拠したクロスハッチテストを実施し、以下の評価基準に従って、非浸透性基材に対するシアン画像の密着性を評価した。
このクロスハッチテストでは、カット間隔を1mmとし、1mm角の正方形の格子を25個形成した。
下記評価基準において、密着性に最も優れるランクはAである。
下記評価基準において、格子が剥がれた割合(%)は、下記式によって求められた値である。下記式における全格子数は25である。
格子が剥がれた割合(%)=〔(剥がれが生じた格子数)/(全格子数)〕×100
A:格子が剥がれた割合(%)が0%であった。
B:格子が剥がれた割合(%)が0%超10%以下であった。
C:格子が剥がれた割合(%)が10%超50%以下であった。
D:格子が剥がれた割合(%)が50%超90%以下であった。
E:格子が剥がれた割合(%)が90%超であった。
画像記録物を、85℃の1.5質量%水酸化ナトリウム水溶液中に浸漬させ、剥離状態を目視で観察した。画像記録物を浸漬させた時点から、シアン画像が基材から完全に剥離するまでの時間を剥離時間とした。
剥離時間に基づいて、アルカリ剥離性の評価を行った。剥離時間が短いほど、アルカリ剥離性に優れるといえる。評価基準は以下のとおりである。
下記評価基準において、アルカリ剥離性に最も優れるランクはAである。
A:剥離時間が5分以内であった。
B:剥離時間が5分超10分以内であった。
C:剥離時間が10分超15分以内であった。
D:剥離時間が15分超30分以内であった。
E:剥離時間が30分超であった。
画像記録物におけるシアン画像の部分から、面積0.01m2のサンプルを切り出し、切り出したサンプルのシアン画像の表面に、水:エタノール=70:30(体積比)の混合液を10mL滴下した。
混合液が滴下されたサンプルを、滴下された混合液が揮発しないようにガラス密閉容器に入れ、40℃で10日間放置した。
10日間放置後、上記滴下された混合液中へのソリッド画像からの溶出成分の全溶出量(以下、マイグレーション量とする)を測定し、下記の評価基準に従って、評価を行った。
マイグレーション量の測定は、10日間放置後に、水-エタノール混合液を揮発させ、残存成分の質量を測定することにより行った。
下記評価基準において、マイグレーションが最も抑制されているランクはAである。
A:マイグレーション量が0ppbである。
B:マイグレーション量が0ppb超10ppb以下である。
C:マイグレーション量が10ppb超1ppm以下である。
D:マイグレーション量が1ppm超10ppm以下である。
E:マイグレーション量が10ppm超である。
シアンインクの組成の一部及び剥離インクの組成の一部の少なくとも一方を、表1に示すように変更したこと以外は実施例1と同様の操作を行った。
結果を表1に示す。
表1には、シアンインク及び剥離インクの各々について、組成の一部のみを示している。表1に示されていない成分の種類及び量は、全実施例において共通である。

剥離インクの組成の一部を、表1に示すように変更したこと以外は実施例1と同様の操作を行った。
この比較例1のインクは、酸基を含む化合物を含有しない、アルカリ剥離層を形成できないインクである。
結果を表1に示す。
本硬化として電子線(EB)を照射することに代えて、紫外線照射装置(製品名「CSOT-40」、4KWメタルハライドランプ1灯、GS日本電池社製)による紫外線の照射を行い、かつ、剥離インクの組成の一部を、表1に示すように変更したこと以外は実施例1と同様の操作を行った。
結果を表1に示す。
シアンインクの組成の一部を、表1に示すように変更したこと以外は実施例1と同様の操作を行った。

インクCL1(剥離インク;即ち、アルカリ剥離層形成用インク)の付与及びピニング露光を行わなかったこと(即ち、アルカリ剥離層を形成しなかったこと)以外は実施例1と同様の操作を行った。

非浸透性基材上に剥離インクを付与する工程と、
非浸透性基材上に付与された剥離インク上に、顔料及び重合性モノマーを含有する電子線硬化用インクジェットインクである画像用インク(この実施例では、シアンインク)を付与する工程と、
非浸透性基材上に付与された剥離インク及び画像用インクに対し、電子線を照射する工程と、
を含む画像記録方法を実施した実施例1~8では、得られた画像記録物において、画像と非浸透性基材との密着性に優れ、かつ、画像のアルカリ剥離性に優れていた。
また、本硬化を、EBではなくUVで行った比較例2では、硬化が不十分であり、各種評価を行うことができなかった。
また、比較例2に対し、高分子開始剤XであるSC7100を、分子量500未満の低分子開始剤(819及びITX)に変更した比較例3では、硬化を十分であり、各種評価を行うことができたが、画像の密着性が低下した。この理由は、本硬化を、EBではなくUVによって行ったためと考えられる。
また、剥離インクを使用せず、アルカリ剥離層を形成しなかった比較例4では、画像のアルカリ剥離性が低下した。
<多層画像の画像記録>
実施例1の「シアン単色の画像記録」における、インクC1の付与及びインクC1に対するピニング露光の操作に代えて、
インクW1の付与(網点率100%)及びインクW1に対するピニング露光、
インクC1の付与(網点率50%)及びインクC1に対するピニング露光、
インクM1の付与(網点率50%)及びインクM1に対するピニング露光、
インクY1の付与(網点率50%)及びインクY1に対するピニング露光、並びに、
インクK1の付与(網点率50%)及びインクK1に対するピニング露光
をこの順に実施する操作に変更したこと以外は、「シアン単色の画像記録」と同様にして、多層画像の画像記録を実施した。
即ち、この多層画像の画像記録においても、シアン単色の画像記録と同様に、アルカリ剥離層の形成及び最終のEB照射(即ち、本硬化)は実施した。
ここで多層画像は、網点率100%のホワイト画像と、ホワイト画像上に配置されたコンポジットブラック画像と、を含む。コンポジットブラック画像は、網点率50%のシアン画像、網点率50%のマゼンタ画像、網点率50%のイエロー画像、及び網点率50%のブラック画像が積層された構造の画像である。
多層画像の画像記録物について、前述したシアン単色の画像記録物について実施した評価と同様の評価(即ち、密着性、アルカリ剥離性、及びマイグレーション量)を実施した。
結果を表2に示す。
多層画像の画像記録物における多層画像(即ち、コンポジットブラック画像)の濃度を、コニカミノルタ社製FD-7を用いて測定した。
測定した結果に基づき、下記評価基準にて、多層画像の画像濃度を評価した。
A:画像濃度が1.8以上であった。
B:画像濃度が1.5以上1.8未満であった。
C:画像濃度が1.5以下であった。
各インクの付与直後のピニング露光の有無を、表2に示すように変更したこと以外は実施例101と同様の操作を行った。
表2中の空欄は、該当するピニング露光を行わなかったことを意味する。
また、各インクの付与直後とは、該当するインクが付与された後であって、次のインクが付与される前を意味する。
本硬化として電子線(EB)を照射することに代えて、メタルハライドランプによる紫外線(UV)の照射を行ったこと以外は実施例1と同様の操作を行った。
UV照射は、比較例2におけるUV照射と同様の条件にて実施した。
結果を表2に示す。
これに対し、本硬化を、EBではなくUVで行った比較例101では、前述の比較例2と同様に、硬化が不十分であり、各種評価を行うことができなかった。
