- the GSDF of the DICOM standard is defined so as to establish visual linearity.
- GSDF is derived from the Barten-Model, which is based on the human visual characteristics of image presentation.
- JND index defines the smallest luminance difference for a given target that is discernible to an observer of the image as 1 JND, and the JND index results in a luminance difference for which one step in the JND index is the discrimination zone. It is a value that In the embodiment, the JND index based on the Barten-Model is used, but the present invention is not limited to this. An index corresponding to the luminance difference may be used.
- the image display system 100 of this embodiment includes an image display device 1 and an information processing device 2, as shown in FIG.
- the image display device 1 includes an image processing unit 1A, a luminance processing unit 1B, an operation unit 1C, a request determination unit 1D, a LUT (Look Up Table) 1E, a storage unit 1F, an image display unit 1G, an optical A sensor 1H and a sensor control unit 1I are provided.
- the image processing section 1A, the luminance processing section 1B, and the request determination section 1D read programs stored in the storage section 1F and execute various arithmetic processes, and are composed of, for example, a CPU.
- Each of the above components may be implemented by software or by hardware.
- various functions can be realized by the CPU executing a computer program.

In this embodiment, various information and concepts including this are handled, and these are represented by high and low signal values as binary bit aggregates composed of 0 or 1, and the above software or hardware Communication and computation can be performed according to the aspect of .
- the image display device 1 acquires image data from the information processing device 2 and outputs the image-processed image data to the image display section 1G.

- the image display device 1 When a doctor interprets a medical image displayed on the image display unit 1G, the brightness of the image display unit may be increased. Therefore, the image display device 1 according to the embodiment is configured to be able to execute a brightness increase mode for increasing the brightness of the image display section 1G.
- the brightness increase mode in the embodiment is a mode in which the brightness setting value is set to the maximum value, and is useful for discovering lesions, for example.
- the image display section 1G In order to display an image corresponding to GSDF, which is a predetermined gradation characteristic, on the image display section 1G, it is necessary to acquire the brightness of the image display section 1G.
- a method for acquiring this luminance a method using a calculated value based on the operating current value (backlight current value or PWM value) of the image display unit 1G can be considered.
- the actual brightness (display brightness) of the image display unit 1G may deviate. Specifically, when the backlight constituting the image display unit 1G is deteriorated and a predetermined amount of current is applied to the deteriorated backlight, the luminance is the same as that of the backlight before deterioration when the same current is applied. It becomes smaller than the brightness.
- the deterioration of the backlight that constitutes the image display section 1G reduces the luminous efficiency of the backlight. Therefore, from the viewpoint of displaying on the image display unit 1G with GSDF characteristics that conform to the actual display light, the display light of the image display unit 1G is used instead of using the above-described operating current value (backlight current value or PWM value). It is preferable to use the display brightness obtained by measuring the . On the other hand, it takes a long time to stabilize the display luminance of the image display unit 1G after changing the luminance setting value. It takes
- the image display device 1 when the image display device 1 according to the embodiment receives a request to execute the brightness increase mode (when the brightness setting value is changed), it displays an image with the first gradation characteristic, and then displays the image with the first gradation characteristic. It has a function of replacing an image with the 1st gradation characteristic with an image with the 2nd gradation characteristic.
- the brightness increase mode is a mode in which the image is displayed with the second gradation characteristic after displaying the image with the first gradation characteristic.
- the first gradation characteristic can be obtained more quickly than the second gradation characteristic.
- the first gradation characteristic associates a gradation value with a first target luminance described later, and the first target luminance can be obtained by using the calculated value described above.
- the second gradation characteristic is a gradation characteristic that more accurately reflects the actual luminance (display luminance).
- the second gradation characteristic associates a gradation value with a second target luminance described later, and the second target luminance is obtained by using the display luminance obtained by measuring the display light. It is possible.
- Image processing section 1A is configured to perform image processing based on the data stored in the LUT 1E and display the image-processed data on the image display section 1G. As shown in FIG. 1, the image processing section 1A includes a display switching section 1A1 and an enhancement processing section 1A2.
- the display switching unit 1A1 is configured to switch the gradation characteristics of the image data displayed on the image display unit 1G to the second gradation characteristics after setting the first gradation characteristics.
- the display switching unit 1A1 switches the image displayed on the image display unit 1G from the image with the first gradation characteristic to It is configured to switch to an image with a second gradation characteristic.
- the display switching unit 1A1 executes the switching described above when the request determination unit 1D determines that there is a request to execute the brightness increase mode.
- the enhancement processing section 1A2 is configured to enhance the frame Fr (see FIGS. 8A and 8B) of the image data displayed on the image display section 1G.
- the doctor may forget whether or not the operation unit 1C has been operated, and may not be able to determine whether the brightness increase mode is ON or OFF. Since the image display device 1 includes the enhancement processing unit 1A2, when the brightness increase mode is OFF, the frame Fr of the image D is not highlighted. If so, the frame Fr of image D is highlighted. Accordingly, by visually recognizing the frame Fr of the image D, the doctor can easily determine whether the brightness increase mode is ON or OFF.

As shown in FIG. 2, the brightness processing unit 1B includes a brightness acquisition unit 1B1, a brightness estimation unit 1B2, a conversion unit 1B3, a target JND value calculation unit 1B4, and a target brightness calculation unit 1B5.
- luminance acquisition unit 1B1 As shown in FIG. 2, when acquiring the first gradation characteristic, the luminance acquisition unit 1B1 calculates the temporary maximum luminance Lmax_t, which is the calculated value of the maximum luminance calculated by the luminance estimation unit 1B2 described later, and the minimum luminance. A temporary minimum luminance Lmin_t, which is a value, is acquired. As shown in FIG. 3, when acquiring the second gradation characteristic, the luminance obtaining unit 1B1 obtains the display luminance (maximum luminance Lmax) obtained by the optical sensor 1H and the temporary minimum luminance calculated by the luminance estimating unit 1B2. Get Lmin_t and
- the luminance estimation unit 1B2 when obtaining the first gradation characteristic, obtains the luminance setting value sv (an example of the first luminance setting value) immediately before accepting the request of the image display device 1, Based on the operating current value cv of the image display unit 1G at the brightness setting value, a provisional maximum brightness Lmax_t, which is a calculated value of the maximum brightness, is calculated.
- the operating current value cv for example, when the dimming method of the image display unit 1G is the DC current dimming method, the backlight current value of the image display unit 1G can be used. If the dimming method is PWM dimming, the PWM value can be used.
- the PWM value is a value corresponding to the pulse width of the PWM signal output to the backlight driver circuit.
- a known method such as Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 2007-11246 can be used for calculating the luminance value.
- the luminance estimation unit 1B2 calculates a temporary minimum luminance Lmin_t based on the calculated temporary maximum luminance Lmax_t and the contrast ratio ct. Note that the contrast ratio is the ratio between the maximum luminance and the minimum luminance.
- the factory default contrast ratio stored in the storage unit 1E can be used.
- the brightness estimation unit 1B2 periodically acquires the maximum brightness and minimum brightness of the image display unit 1G via the optical sensor 1H, and periodically calculates the contrast ratio using the acquired maximum brightness and minimum brightness. may be calculated. Then, the brightness estimation unit 1B2 may store the calculated contrast ratio in the storage unit 1E and update it as appropriate, and the brightness acquisition unit 1B1 may use this updated contrast ratio.
- the luminance estimating unit 1B2 calculates the following based on the display luminance obtained by measuring the display light of the image display unit 1G and the contrast ratio ct. Calculate the minimum luminance Lmin.
- the minimum luminance Lmin may be obtained by directly measuring the minimum luminance of the image display section 1G without calculating it.
- the luminance estimation unit 1B2 then outputs the minimum luminance Lmin to the luminance acquisition unit 1B1.
- the conversion unit 1B3 has a function of converting luminance to a JND value based on Equation 1 defined in DICOM shown in FIG. 6A. As shown in FIG. 2, the conversion unit 1B3 acquires the temporary minimum luminance Lmin_t and the temporary maximum luminance Lmax_t from the luminance acquisition unit 1B1 when acquiring the first gradation characteristics. Then, the conversion unit 1B3 converts the temporary minimum luminance Lmin_t to the temporary minimum JND value Jmin_t, and the temporary maximum luminance Lmax_t to the temporary maximum JND value Jmax_t. Further, as shown in FIG.
- the conversion unit 1B3 acquires the minimum luminance Lmin and the maximum luminance Lmax from the luminance acquisition unit 1B1 when acquiring the second gradation characteristics. Then, the conversion unit 1B3 converts the minimum luminance Lmin to the minimum JND value Jmin and the maximum luminance Lmax to the maximum JND value Jmax.
- the target JND value calculation unit 1B4 has a function of calculating the target JND value for each gradation based on Equation 3 shown in FIG. 6C. In other words, the target JND value calculator 1B4 calculates the target JND value for each gradation based on the maximum JND value, the minimum JND value, and the predetermined number of gradations. Note that although the embodiments are described assuming that there are 0 to 255 gradations, the present invention is not limited to this.
- the target JND value calculation unit 1B4 calculates the provisional target JND value for each gradation based on the provisional minimum luminance Lmin_t, the provisional maximum luminance Lmax_t, and the number of gradations (255). Calculate Jm_t.
- the target JND value calculation unit 1B4 calculates the target JND value Jm for each gradation based on the minimum luminance Lmin, the maximum luminance Lmax, and the number of gradations (255). do.
- the target luminance calculator 1B5 has a function of converting the JND value into luminance based on Equation 2 defined in DICOM shown in FIG. 6B.
- the target luminance calculator 1B5 converts the temporary target JND value Jm_t of each gradation into a first target luminance Lm_t, which is the temporary target luminance of each gradation.
- the target luminance calculator 1B5 converts the target JND value Jm of each gradation into a second target luminance Lm, which is the target luminance of each gradation.
- the first target luminance Lm_t of each gradation calculated by the target luminance calculator 1B5 is stored in the table of the LUT1E. The same applies to the second target luminance Lm of each gradation.
- the operation unit 1C is for operating the image display device 1, and can be composed of, for example, buttons, a touch panel, a voice input device, and the like.
- the operation unit 1C is configured to accept execution of the brightness increase mode. That is, the image display device 1 accepts a request for execution of the brightness increase mode via the operation unit 1C. Note that the image display device 1 may receive a request to execute the brightness increase mode from the information processing device 2 instead of the operation unit 1C.
- the request determination unit 1D has a function of determining whether or not the doctor has operated the operation unit 1C to turn on the brightness increase mode, that is, whether or not there is a request for execution of the brightness increase mode.
- the brightness increase mode in the embodiment is a mode in which the brightness setting value (an example of the first brightness setting value) immediately before accepting the request for the brightness increase mode is changed to the maximum brightness setting value (an example of the second brightness setting value). be. Therefore, the request determination unit 1D has a function of determining whether or not there is a request to change the brightness setting value immediately before accepting the request for the brightness increase mode to the maximum brightness setting value.
- LUT1E has LUT data.
- the LUT data is configured as a table (conversion table) of output data associated with input data.
- the input data corresponds to the image data acquired from the information processing device 2, and the image data converted via the LUT 1E is image-processed by the image processing section 1A and displayed on the image display section 1G.
- the first target luminance is stored in LUT1E each time it is calculated. That is, each time the image display device 1 receives a request to execute the brightness increase mode via the operation unit 1C, the brightness processing unit 1B calculates the first target brightness and stores it in the LUT 1E. As a result, the LUT 1E stores the first target luminance more suitable for the current state of the image display section 1G.
- the first target luminance is calculated by the luminance processing unit 1B when a predetermined condition is satisfied, and the calculated first target luminance is stored in advance in the storage unit 1E and updated.
- the predetermined conditions include, for example, counting the number of times the request is accepted and whether or not the count reaches a threshold, or a condition that a predetermined time has elapsed since the first target luminance was calculated. It is possible to adopt the condition of whether or not This eliminates the need to calculate the first target luminance for each request, and the table can be used. That is, when there is a request for the increased brightness mode, it is possible to quickly display an image reflecting the GSDF characteristics on the image display unit 1G, thereby effectively suppressing deterioration of the doctor's usability.

- the storage unit 1E stores various data such as formulas 1 to 3 shown in FIGS. 6A to 6C and the contrast ratio of the image display unit 1G.
- the image display unit 1G displays image data (including still images and moving images) as images.
- the image display unit 1G can be composed of, for example, a liquid crystal display, an organic EL display, or the like.
- optical sensor 1H and sensor control unit 1I The optical sensor 1H and sensor controller 1I are built in the image display device 1 .
- the optical sensor 1H is arranged, for example, on the back side of the backlight of the image display section 1G.
- the optical sensor 1H is configured to be able to directly measure the brightness of the backlight, and operates under the control of the sensor control section 1I.

- the luminance estimator 1B2 calculates the temporary maximum luminance Lmax_t based on the luminance setting value sv and the operating current value cv. Also, the luminance estimation unit 1B2 calculates a temporary minimum luminance Lmin_t based on the temporary maximum luminance Lmax_t and the contrast ratio ct.
- the conversion unit 1B3 converts the temporary minimum luminance Lmin_t to the temporary minimum JND value Jmin_t, and also converts the temporary maximum luminance Lmax_t to the temporary maximum JND value Jmax_t.
- the target JND value calculator 1B4 calculates the provisional target JND value Jm_t for each gradation based on the provisional minimum luminance Lmin_t and the provisional maximum luminance Lmax_t.
- the target luminance calculator 1B5 converts the provisional target JND value Jm_t of each gradation into a first target luminance Lm_t, which is the provisional target luminance of each gradation.
- Step S3 Step of storing first target luminance
- the luminance processing unit 1B stores the acquired first target luminance Lm_t of each gradation in the table of the LUT1E.
- Step S4 First image display step
- the image processing unit 1A causes the image display unit 1G to display the image data input from the information processing device 2 using the table of the LUT 1E storing the first target luminance Lm_t.
- the image display unit 1G shifts from the state of displaying the image D1 with relatively low brightness as shown in FIG. 7 to the state of displaying the image D2 with relatively high brightness as shown in FIG. , switch.
- the enhancement processing section 1A2 highlights the frame Fr of the image data displayed on the image display section 1G.
- Step S5 stabilization step
- the luminance estimation unit 1B2 determines whether the display luminance of the image display unit 1G output from the optical sensor 1H has stabilized. Since it takes time for the display brightness to stabilize after the brightness setting value is maximized, the image display device 1 determines whether the display brightness has stabilized in order to obtain a more accurate display brightness. . For this determination, for example, a condition such as whether the luminance value output from the optical sensor 1H is equal to or less than a predetermined threshold or within a predetermined range can be used. Further, for this determination, instead of using the luminance value of the optical sensor 1H, a condition is used as to whether or not a predetermined time has elapsed since the request determination unit 1D received a request to change the luminance setting value. can also
- Step S6 Luminance acquisition step
- the luminance estimation unit 1B2 acquires the display luminance of the image display unit 1G output from the optical sensor 1H.
- the brightness estimation section 1B2 acquires the maximum brightness Lmax.
- Step S7 second target brightness calculation step
- the luminance estimator 1B2 calculates the minimum luminance Lmin based on the maximum luminance Lmax and the contrast ratio ct.
- the conversion unit 1B3 converts the minimum luminance Lmin to the minimum JND value Jmin and the maximum luminance Lmax to the maximum JND value Jmax.

- Step S8 Step of storing second target luminance
- the luminance processing unit 1B stores the acquired second target luminance Lm of each gradation in the table of the LUT 1E.
- Step S9 Second image display step
- the display switching unit 1A1 of the image processing unit 1A causes the image display unit 1G to display the image data input from the information processing device 2 using the table of the LUT1E storing the second target luminance Lm.
- the display switching section 1A1 of the image processing section 1A switches the gradation characteristic of the image displayed on the image display section 1G from the first gradation characteristic to the second gradation characteristic.
- the image display unit 1G shifts from the state of displaying the image D2 as shown in FIG. 7 to the state of displaying the image D3 having the GSDF characteristics according to the actual display light as shown in FIG. switch to.
- the emphasis processing section 1A2 highlights the frame Fr of the image data displayed on the image display section 1G.
- the second image display step is an example of an image processing step.
- Step S10 Timing step
- the image processing unit 1A determines whether or not a predetermined time (for example, 1 minute) has passed since the request determining unit 1D received the request to change the brightness setting value. Since the brightness increase mode in the embodiment maximizes the brightness setting value, a heavy load is applied to the image display section 1G. For this reason, the image processing section 1A executes the timing step, and reduces the brightness setting value when a predetermined period of time has elapsed. Accordingly, the image display device 1 can suppress deterioration of the image display section 1G.
- a predetermined time for example, 1 minute
- Step S10 Set luminance lowering step
- the display switching section 1A1 reduces the brightness setting value of the image display section 1G. Specifically, the display switching unit 1A1 causes the image display unit 1G to display an image using the table of the LUT1E in which the target luminance for each gradation is lower than the second target luminance. In the embodiment, the display switching unit 1A1 causes the image display unit 1G to display an image using a table of brightness setting values (an example of first brightness setting values) immediately before receiving a request for the brightness increase mode. In other words, the display switching unit 1A1 changes the brightness setting value of the image display unit 1G from the maximum brightness setting value (an example of the second brightness setting) to the brightness setting value (first Example of brightness setting value).
- the image display system 100 When receiving a request to change the brightness setting value, the image display system 100 according to the embodiment sets the gradation characteristic of the image data to be displayed on the image display section 1G to the first gradation characteristic, and at the same time sets the luminance The setting is switched from the brightness setting value (an example of the first brightness setting value) immediately before accepting the request for the brightness increase mode to the maximum value of the brightness setting value (an example of the second brightness setting). After that, the image display system 100 according to the embodiment is configured to switch the gradation characteristics from the first gradation characteristics to the second gradation characteristics.
- the first gradation characteristic can be obtained without the measurement result of the optical sensor 1H.
- the acquisition of the first gradation characteristic is performed by increasing the display brightness of the image display section 1G. This can be performed in parallel with the operation and the operation of measuring the display luminance of the image display section 1G.
- the first gradation characteristic is not an image that reflects the actual display light measurement result (display luminance), it is compatible with GSDF, so it is still suitable for image interpretation.
- a conventional image display system does not display an image with the first gradation characteristic as in the embodiment, it takes a long time to display an image conforming to the GSDF after receiving a request to change the brightness setting value.
- the lag becomes large, and the feeling of use is impaired.
- the conventional image display system (1) changes the brightness setting value, (2) measures the display brightness after the brightness setting value is changed, ( 3) Acquiring the target luminance of each gradation value based on the measured display luminance, and (4) switching the gradation value are required. Therefore, there is a time lag between when the user changes the brightness of the image display section and when the image corresponding to the desired gradation characteristics is displayed on the image display section. During this time lag period, an image based on the gradation characteristics before the luminance change is displayed with the display luminance after the luminance change. Usability may be impaired.
- the image display system 100 is configured to promptly display an image close to the image with the second gradation characteristic (image with the first gradation characteristic) after accepting the request for changing the luminance setting value.
- the first gradation characteristic associates the target luminance (that is, the first target luminance) estimated using the second luminance setting value with the gradation value.
- the target luminance that is, the second target luminance
- the target luminance obtained based on the display luminance of the second luminance setting value actually obtained by the luminance obtaining section 1B1 and the gradation value are It is associated. Therefore, the first gradation characteristic and the second gradation characteristic are similar.
- the image display system 100 is configured to quickly display image data corresponding to the first gradation characteristics that approximate the second gradation characteristics, and has good response and usability. It is heightened.
- the deviation between the first gradation characteristic and the second gradation characteristic is often not so large.
- the image display system 100 according to the embodiment has a configuration with good response as described above, it is possible to recognize that the gradation characteristics have changed from the first gradation characteristics to the second gradation characteristics. This makes it easier for the doctor to concentrate on the interpretation of the images, improving usability.
- the configuration of this embodiment is effective in interpreting medical images such as mammography images, as described below.
- Physicians who interpret medical images such as mammography images may increase the brightness of the image display unit so that lesions can be easily found.
- the brightness of the image display section is always increased, the image display section deteriorates, making it difficult to guarantee the brightness of the image display section.
- a configuration is conceivable in which brightness is temporarily increased when the image display apparatus 1 receives a request, and brightness is easily guaranteed while facilitating interpretation by a doctor.
- the image display system 100 when receiving a request to change the brightness setting value, sets the gradation characteristic to the first gradation characteristic that conforms to the GSDF, and then sets the gradation characteristic to the second gradation characteristic that conforms to the GSDF. Switch to tonal characteristics.
- the images displayed before and after the change in the gradation characteristics of the image both conform to the GSDF, making it difficult for the doctor to recognize the change in the image.
- the image display system 100 according to the embodiment can suppress discomfort to a doctor who interprets a medical image such as a mammography image, and enhance the usability of the doctor.

Abstract
