Definitions
- the present invention relates to a gas sensor.
- Patent Document 1 includes a sensor element provided with a plurality of oxygen ion conductive solid electrolyte layers, a measurement electrode arranged inside the sensor element, and a heater arranged inside the sensor element.
- the gas sensor is described.
- the gas to be measured is introduced around the measurement electrode, and the specific gas concentration in the gas to be measured is detected based on the pump current flowing when oxygen is pumped out around the measurement electrode.
- the heater heats the sensor element to a temperature at which the solid electrolyte layer is activated and keeps it warm.
- Such a gas sensor takes time from when the heater is energized until the specific gas concentration can be detected correctly, and this time is called the light-off time.
- the present invention has been made to solve such a problem, and the main object is to shorten the light-off time of the sensor element.
- the present invention has adopted the following means in order to achieve the above-mentioned main object.
- the gas sensor of the present invention An element body that includes a solid electrolyte layer with oxygen ion conductivity and is provided with a gas flow section to be measured that introduces and circulates the gas to be measured. It has an outer measuring electrode provided on the outside of the element body so as to be in contact with the measured gas, and an inner measuring electrode arranged in the measuring chamber of the measured gas flow section, and has the inner side.
- a measurement pump cell that pumps oxygen from the periphery of the measurement electrode to the periphery of the outer measurement electrode, and a measurement pump cell.
- a measurement voltage detection sensor cell that detects the measurement voltage between the reference electrode and the inner measurement electrode, With a sensor element that has During the normal drive of the sensor element, the measurement pump cell is controlled so that the measurement voltage becomes the target value at the normal time, and the measurement pump control process for pumping out oxygen in the measurement chamber is performed.
- the measurement pump cell is controlled so that the measurement voltage becomes a start-up target value higher than the normal time target value, and oxygen in the measurement chamber is pumped out at the start-up measurement.
- the start-up measurement pump control process is changed to the normal measurement pump control process.
- Pump cell control unit for switching and A specific gas concentration detection unit that detects a specific gas concentration in the gas to be measured based on the measurement pump current flowing through the measurement pump cell by the normal measurement pump control process. It is equipped with.
- this gas sensor when the sensor element is normally driven, a normal measurement pump control process is performed in which the measurement pump cell is controlled so that the measurement voltage reaches the normal normal target value and oxygen in the measurement chamber is pumped out. Then, the specific gas concentration in the gas to be measured is detected based on the measurement pump current flowing through the measurement pump cell by the normal measurement pump control process. Further, in this gas sensor, when the sensor element is started before the normal drive, the measurement pump cell is controlled so that the measurement voltage becomes a start-up target value higher than the normal target value to draw oxygen in the measurement chamber. The pump control process for measurement at startup is performed.
- the oxygen concentration in the measurement chamber is pumped out with the target value of the oxygen concentration in the measurement chamber set to a value lower than that in the normal drive.
- oxygen existing in the measurement chamber before the start of the sensor element can be quickly removed from the measurement chamber as compared with the case where the pump control process for normal measurement is performed from the start of the sensor element. Therefore, the write-off time of the sensor element is shortened.
- the start-up measurement pump control process is switched to the normal measurement pump control process.
- the oxygen existing in the measurement chamber before the start of the sensor element includes, for example, oxygen molecules (O 2 ) existing in the space of the measurement chamber, oxygen molecules (O 2 ) adhering to the surface of the inner measurement electrode, and Oxygen, which is bound to the constituent material of the inner measurement electrode (oxidizing the constituent material), can be mentioned.
- the pump cell control unit determines that the oxygen concentration in the measurement chamber is stable when the measurement pump current flowing through the measurement pump cell is stabilized by the start-up measurement pump control process. You may. In this way, it is possible to determine whether or not the oxygen concentration in the measurement chamber is stable based on the measurement pump current during the start-up measurement pump control process.
- whether the measurement pump current is stabilized by the pump cell control unit based on the one-time differential value of the measurement pump current flowing through the measurement pump cell by the start-up measurement pump control process. It may be determined whether or not.
- the pump cell control unit determines whether or not the measurement pump current is stable based on the double derivative value of the measurement pump current flowing through the measurement pump cell by the start-up measurement pump control process. You may. In these cases, the pump cell control unit is based on the measurement pump current after the measurement pump current flowing through the measurement pump cell by the start-up measurement pump control process once rises and then starts to fall. Then, it may be determined whether or not the measurement pump current is stable.
- the gas sensor of the present invention has a heater that heats the element body and a heater control that energizes the heater so that the temperature of the heater or the sensor element, which is the temperature of the element body, becomes a predetermined target temperature to generate heat.
- the pump cell control unit includes a heater control unit that performs processing, and the pump cell control unit is a start-up measurement pump when the heater control process is started and the sensor element temperature reaches a predetermined threshold value equal to or lower than the target temperature.
- the control process may be started. In this way, the start timing of the start-up measurement pump control process can be appropriately determined based on the sensor element temperature.
- the predetermined threshold value may be a value below the target temperature.
- the heater is energized to generate heat so that the sensor element temperature becomes a predetermined target temperature
- the heater is controlled based on the sensor element temperature itself and is converted into the sensor element temperature. This includes the case where the heater is controlled based on a possible value (for example, the resistance value of the heater, the resistance value of the electric circuit including the solid electrolyte, etc.). Examples of the resistance value of the electric circuit including the solid electrolyte include the resistance value of the measurement pump cell and the resistance value of the measurement voltage detection sensor cell.
- the sensor element has an adjusting pump cell for adjusting the oxygen concentration of the oxygen concentration adjusting chamber provided on the upstream side of the measuring chamber in the gas flow section to be measured, and controls the pump cell.
- the unit When the sensor element is activated, the unit performs an adjustment pump control process for operating the adjustment pump cell, and determines that the oxygen concentration in the oxygen concentration adjustment chamber is stable based on the operation of the adjustment pump cell. In addition, switching from the start-up measurement pump control process to the normal time measurement pump control process may be performed.
- the oxygen concentration adjustment chamber on the upstream side thereof is in a state where a large amount of oxygen (oxygen not derived from a specific gas) is present (for example, atmospheric atmosphere).
- the pump cell control unit performs the adjustment pump cell control process when the sensor element is activated
- oxygen existing in the oxygen concentration adjusting chamber before the sensor element is activated can also be removed.
- oxygen in the measuring chamber can be removed by the operation of the adjusting pump cell.
- the oxygen concentration adjusting chamber and the measuring chamber are in communication with each other as described above, when the oxygen concentration in the oxygen concentration adjusting chamber is stable, the oxygen in the measuring chamber is sufficiently pumped out. Therefore, when it is determined that the oxygen concentration in the oxygen concentration adjustment chamber is stable based on the operation of the adjustment pump cell, the start-up measurement pump control process is switched to the normal start-up measurement pump control process at startup.
- the switching from the start-up measurement pump control process to the normal time measurement pump control process is described in the oxygen concentration adjustment chamber.
- switching is performed when the conditions are also satisfied.
- the adjusting pump cell includes an inner adjusting pump electrode arranged in the oxygen concentration adjusting chamber and an outer adjusting pump arranged on a portion exposed to the gas to be measured on the outside of the element body. It may be provided with an electrode.
- the oxygen concentration adjusting chamber is provided in the first internal vacant space and on the downstream side of the first internal vacant space and on the upstream side of the measuring chamber.
- the adjusting pump cell has a second internal vacant space, and the adjusting pump cell includes a main pump cell that adjusts the oxygen concentration of the first internal vacant space and an auxiliary pump cell that adjusts the oxygen concentration of the second internal vacant space.
- the adjusting pump control process flows to the auxiliary pump cell by the auxiliary pump control process that controls the auxiliary pump cell so that the oxygen concentration in the second internal space becomes the target concentration, and the auxiliary pump control process.
- the main pump control process for controlling the main pump cell so that the auxiliary pump current becomes the target current is included, and the pump cell control unit determines that the auxiliary pump current is stable in the vicinity of the target current. Switching from the start-up measurement pump control process to the normal time measurement pump control process may be performed. That is, when it is determined that the auxiliary pump current is stable near the target current, it may be determined that the oxygen concentration in the oxygen concentration adjusting chamber is stable. In this way, it is possible to appropriately switch from the start-up measurement pump control process to the normal time measurement pump control process based on the auxiliary pump current.
- the main pump cell includes an inner main pump electrode disposed in the first internal space and an outer main pump electrode disposed in a portion exposed to the gas to be measured outside the element main body.
- the auxiliary pump cell includes an inner auxiliary pump electrode disposed in the second internal space and an outer auxiliary pump electrode disposed in a portion exposed to the gas to be measured outside the element main body. You may.
- the open measurement voltage which is the measurement voltage in a state where the pump cell control unit does not control the flow of current to the inner measurement electrode and the reference electrode
- a predetermined threshold value or more a predetermined threshold value or more.
- switching from the start-up measurement pump control process to the normal time measurement pump control process may be performed. Since the voltage for measurement at the time of opening is a value corresponding to the oxygen concentration in the measurement room, it is appropriately determined whether or not the oxygen in the measurement room is sufficiently pumped out by comparing the voltage for measurement at the time of opening and the threshold value. can. Therefore, it is possible to appropriately switch from the start-up measurement pump control process to the normal time measurement pump control process.
- the inner measuring electrode may contain at least one of Pt and Rh.
- Noble metals such as Pt and Rh may oxidize by combining with oxygen in the measurement chamber, and this oxygen reduces the detection accuracy of a specific gas concentration. Therefore, when the sensor element is started, the oxide of the noble metal contained in the inner measurement electrode is used. It is necessary to pump this oxygen out of the measuring room after reducing it. Since it takes longer to reduce the oxide of the noble metal to pump out oxygen than to pump out the oxygen molecules in the measurement chamber, the light-off time tends to be longer if the oxidized precious metal is present in the measurement chamber.
- the oxide of the oxidized noble metal can be reduced at an early stage, and the light-off time can be reduced. Can be shortened. Therefore, when the inner measurement electrode contains at least one of Pt and Rh, it is highly significant to perform the start-up measurement pump control process.
- the inner measuring electrode has a volume C of 8 ⁇ 10 -3 mm 3 or more and 32 ⁇ 10 -3 mm 3 or less, and the difference ⁇ V between the starting target value and the normal target value is It may be 120 mV or more and 200 mV or less.
- the volume C is 8 ⁇ 10 -3 mm 3 or more, the oxygen pumping capacity around the measurement electrode by the measurement pump cell is sufficiently high.
- the difference ⁇ V is 200 mV or less, the value of the voltage applied to the inner measurement electrode during the start-up measurement pump control process does not become too high.
- the larger the volume C the larger the difference ⁇ V required to sufficiently increase the effect of shortening the light-off time, but the volume C tends to be 8 ⁇ 10 -3 mm 3 or more and 32 ⁇ 10 -3 mm 3 .
- the difference ⁇ V is 120 mV or more and 200 mV or less, the effect of shortening the write-off time can be sufficiently enhanced while satisfying the above-mentioned lower limit of the volume C and the upper limit of the difference ⁇ V.
- FIG. 6 is a schematic cross-sectional view of the sensor element 201 of the modified example. The graph which shows the relationship between the volume C of a measurement electrode 44, the difference ⁇ V of a target value, and a write-off time.

- the sensor element 101 includes a first substrate layer 1, a second substrate layer 2, a third substrate layer 3, and a first solid electrolyte layer 4, each of which is composed of an oxygen ion conductive solid electrolyte layer such as zirconia (ZrO 2 ).
- the element has a laminated body in which six layers of the spacer layer 5 and the second solid electrolyte layer 6 are laminated in this order from the lower side in the drawing. Further, the solid electrolyte forming these six layers is a dense airtight one.
- the sensor element 101 is manufactured, for example, by performing predetermined processing, printing of a circuit pattern, or the like on a ceramic green sheet corresponding to each layer, laminating them, and further firing and integrating them.

Process and perform.
- the target value of the voltage V2 is different between the normal measurement pump control process and the start-up measurement pump control process.
- the target value of the voltage V2 in the start-up measurement pump control process is referred to as a start-up target value V2a *.
- the target value of the voltage V2 in the normal time measurement pump control process is referred to as a normal time target value V2b *.

It becomes a large value. Therefore, the fact that the start-up target value V2a * is higher than the normal time target value V2b * means that when the start-up measurement pump control process is executed, it is compared with the time when the normal time measurement pump control process is executed. It means that the target value of the oxygen concentration of the third internal space 61 is set to a lower value. - the CPU 92 of the control unit 91 first energizes the heater 72 so that the heater temperature Th, which is the temperature of the heater 72, becomes the target temperature Th *, and heats the heater 72.
- the process is started (step S100).
- the heater temperature Th can be expressed by an equation of a linear function of the resistance value of the heater 72. Therefore, in the heater control process of the present embodiment, the CPU 92 calculates the resistance value of the heater 72, and sets the heater power supply 76 so that the calculated resistance value becomes the target resistance value (resistance value corresponding to the target temperature Th *). Feedback control.
- the CPU 92 can acquire, for example, the voltage of the heater 72 and the current flowing through the heater 72, and calculate the resistance value of the heater 72 based on the acquired voltage and current.
- the CPU 92 may calculate the resistance value of the heater 72 by, for example, the 3-terminal method or the 4-terminal method.
- the CPU 92 outputs a control signal to the heater power supply 76 so that the calculated resistance value of the heater 72 becomes the target resistance value, and feedback-controls the power supplied by the heater power supply 76.
- the heater power supply 76 adjusts the electric power supplied to the heater 72 by, for example, changing the value of the voltage applied to the heater 72. As shown in FIG.
- the heater temperature Th rises to the target temperature Th * with the passage of time, and the time when the heater temperature Th reaches the target temperature Th *. After t2, the heater temperature Th is maintained near the target temperature Th *.
- the target temperature Th * is predetermined as a temperature (for example, 800 ° C.) that can sufficiently activate the solid electrolyte of the sensor element 101.

- the CPU 92 determines whether or not the start condition of the start-up measurement pump control process is satisfied. In the present embodiment, the CPU 92 determines whether or not the heater temperature Th has reached a predetermined threshold value Thref or higher (step S110), and if the determination result is affirmative, the start-up measurement pump control process is performed. It is considered that the start condition is satisfied.
- the threshold value Thref is a value equal to or less than the target temperature Th *, and may be a value less than the target temperature Th *.
- the threshold threshold activates the solid electrolyte (in this embodiment, the second solid electrolyte layer 6, the spacer layer 5, and the first solid electrolyte layer 4) contained in the measurement pump cell 41 controlled by the start-up measurement pump control process. It is predetermined as the lower limit of the heater temperature Th required for the conversion (the ionic conductivity of the solid electrolyte is exhibited). For example, the threshold value Thref is set in advance by an experiment as a lower limit value of the heater temperature Th required to heat the second solid electrolyte layer 6, the spacer layer 5, and the first solid electrolyte layer 4 to 600 ° C. or higher. May be good.
- step S110 the CPU 92 repeatedly executes step S110 and waits until a positive determination is made. If a positive determination is made in step S110, the CPU 92 starts the above-mentioned start-up measurement pump control process (step S120). In the example of FIG. 4, since the heater temperature Th reaches the threshold value Thref at the time t1 before the time t2, the CPU 92 starts the start-up measurement pump control process at the time t1. When the start-up measurement pump control process is started, the CPU 92 feedback-controls the voltage Vp2 of the variable power supply 46 so that the voltage V2 becomes the start-up target value V2a *, whereby the measurement pump cell 41 is controlled.
- the measurement pump cell 41 pumps oxygen existing in the third internal space 61 around the outer pump electrode 23.
- a pump current Ip2 corresponding to the amount of oxygen pumped flows through the measurement pump cell 41.
- a large amount of oxygen oxygen not derived from a specific gas
- the gas flow section to be measured including the third internal space 61 for example, an atmospheric atmosphere. ..
- By performing the start-up measurement pump control process such oxygen is pumped around the outer pump electrode 23. Therefore, as shown in the graph (solid line) of the pump current Ip2 of the embodiment shown in FIG.
- the oxygen existing in the third internal space 61 before the start of the sensor element 101 is specifically, oxygen molecules (O 2 ) existing in the space in the third internal space 61, on the surface of the measurement electrode 44. Examples thereof include attached oxygen molecules (O 2 ) and oxygen bonded to the constituent material of the measurement electrode 44.
- the measurement electrode 44 contains Rh and Pt, at least one of Rh 2 O 3 and Pt O 2 may be present in the measurement electrode 44.
- the oxygen (O) in Rh 2 O 3 and Pt O 2 is oxygen bonded to the constituent material of the measurement electrode 44.
- oxygen molecules O 2
- the CPU 92 starts the pump control process for measurement at startup, and also starts the above-mentioned adjustment pump control process (main pump control process and auxiliary pump control process).
- the pump current Ip0 and the pump current Ip1 suddenly rise from the time t1, and a relatively large pump current Ip0 and the pump current Ip1 flow.
- the pump current Ip0 is not shown.
- the pump current Ip1 is shown to be smaller than the pump current Ip2 in FIG. 4, but the magnitude relation of the actual magnitude of the pump current is basically Ip0>Ip1> Ip2.
- the CPU 92 determines whether or not the end condition of the start-up measurement pump control process is satisfied. In the present embodiment, the CPU 92 determines whether or not the oxygen concentration in the oxygen concentration adjusting chamber is stable based on the operation of the adjusting pump cell (step S130), and when the determination result is affirmative, at startup. It is considered that the end condition of the measurement pump control process is satisfied. More specifically, when the CPU 92 determines that the pump current Ip1 is stable in the vicinity of the target current Ip1 *, the CPU 92 determines that the oxygen concentration in the oxygen concentration adjusting chamber is stable.
- the pump currents Ip1 and Ip2 are started as described above. Soars to a relatively large value.
- the voltage V2 approaches the start-up target value V2a *
- the voltage V1 approaches the target value V1 *
- the pump current Ip1 approaches the target current Ip1 *. Therefore, the pump currents Ip1 and Ip2 (and the pump current Ip0) increase once and then gradually decrease.
- the oxygen concentration of the third internal space 61 becomes the target concentration (the oxygen concentration of the voltage V2). If it is higher than the oxygen concentration corresponding to the start-up target value V2a *), the oxygen in the third internal space 61 may back-diffuse (backflow) into the second internal space 40, and the oxygen is assisted. It can be pumped out by the pump cell 50.
- the oxygen concentration in the oxygen concentration adjusting chamber (first internal space 20 and second internal space 40) is stable, that is, when the pump current Ip1 is stable near the target current Ip1 *, the sensor element 101 Oxygen existing in the third internal vacant space 61 has been sufficiently pumped out even before the start-up. Therefore, based on whether the pump current Ip1 is stable near the target current Ip1 *, it is determined whether or not the oxygen existing in the third internal space 61 is sufficiently pumped out before the start of the sensor element 101. Can be done. In the determination of step S130, the CPU 92 may determine that the pump current Ip1 is stable near the target current Ip1 * when the pump current Ip1 once rises and then decreases to reach a predetermined threshold value or less.
- the predetermined threshold value is a value at which the pump current Ip1 can be regarded as having dropped to the vicinity of the target current Ip1 *, for example, the same value as the target current Ip1 * or a value 5% larger than the target current Ip1 *, and the target current Ip1 *. It can be predetermined as the above value.
- the CPU 92 may determine that the pump current Ip1 is stable in the vicinity of the target current Ip1 * when the state in which the pump current Ip1 is within a predetermined range continues for a predetermined time or longer.
- the predetermined range is a range in which the pump current Ip1 can be regarded as a value near the target current Ip1 *, and can be predetermined, for example, within ⁇ 5% of the target current Ip1 *.
- the pump current Ip1 rises once and then falls to reach the target current Ip1 * or less (time t3 in FIG. 4)
- the pump current Ip1 stabilizes near the target current Ip1 *. It was decided to judge.
- step S130 the CPU 92 repeatedly executes step S130 and waits until a positive determination is made. If a positive determination is made in step S130, the CPU 92 ends the above-mentioned start-up measurement pump control process, starts the normal time measurement pump control process (step S140), and ends the start-up control process. As a result, the process performed by the CPU 92 shifts from the startup control process to the normal control process. In the normal time control process, the CPU 92 performs the normal time measurement pump control process and continues the above-mentioned adjustment pump control process (main pump control process and auxiliary pump control process) from the start-up control process.
- main pump control process and auxiliary pump control process main pump control process and auxiliary pump control process
- the CPU 92 calculates the NOx concentration in the measured gas based on the pump current Ip2 flowing by the normal measurement pump control process.
- the CPU 92 makes a negative determination in step S130 because the pump current Ip1 is not stable until the time t3, and determines that the pump current Ip1 is stable at the time t3, and in step S130. Make an affirmative decision. Therefore, the CPU 92 starts the normal time control process from the time t3.
- the light-off time is the time (t0 to t3) from the start of the sensor element 101 until the value of the pump current Ip2 becomes a value corresponding to the NOx concentration in the gas to be measured.
- FIG. 4 shows a situation where the NOx concentration in the gas to be measured is constant in order to make the behavior of the pump current Ip2 easy to understand, and the pump current Ip2 after the time t3 is constant.
- the NOx concentration in the gas to be measured fluctuates from moment to moment, so that the value of the pump current Ip2 after the time t3 fluctuates according to the NOx concentration.
- the CPU 92 determines whether or not the end condition of the start-up measurement pump control process is satisfied based on the value of the pump current Ip1 instead of the pump current Ip2.
- the measurement pump cell 41 is controlled so that the voltage V2 becomes the starting target value V2a * higher than the normal target value V2b * as described above, and the third is controlled.
- a pump control process for measurement at startup is performed to pump out oxygen from the internal space 61. That is, in the start-up measurement pump control process, the oxygen concentration in the third internal space 61 is pumped out by setting the target value of the oxygen concentration in the third internal space 61 to be lower than that in the normal drive.
- oxygen existing in the third internal space 61 before the start is quickly removed from the third internal space 61, as compared with the case where the pump control process for normal measurement is performed from the start of the sensor element 101. can do.
- the adjustment pump control process (main pump control process and auxiliary pump control process) is performed from time t1, and the start-up measurement pump is performed from time t1. It shows the time change of the pump current Ip2 when the pump control process for normal measurement is performed instead of the control process.
- the measurement pump cell 41 is controlled so that the voltage V2 becomes the normal target value V2b * lower than the start-up target value V2a *, it is compared with the graph (solid line) of the pump current Ip2 of the embodiment.
- the pump current Ip2 does not become a large value, and the amount of oxygen pumped out from the third internal space 61 becomes small.
- the oxygen in the third internal space 61 is sufficiently pumped out at time t4, which is later than time t3. That is, the write-off time of the comparative example is longer than that of the embodiment.
- the write-off time of the sensor element 101 can be shortened by performing the start-up measurement pump control process instead of the normal time measurement pump control process when the sensor element 101 is activated.
- the adjustment pump control process main pump control process and auxiliary pump control process
- the pump current Ip1 is near the target current Ip1 *.
- the time until it stabilizes is also time t4, which is later than time t3.
- the time when the pump current Ip2 becomes constant (the time when the sensor element 101 is lit off) and the time when the pump current Ip1 stabilizes near the target current Ip1 * are set to the same time t3, but the pump is actually used.
- the time when the current Ip1 stabilizes near the target current Ip1 * may be slightly earlier than the time t3.
- the auxiliary pump cell 50 can also pump out oxygen flowing back from the third internal space 61 to the second internal space 40, but the oxygen bonded to the constituent material of the measurement electrode 44 and the measurement electrode 44 Since the oxygen molecules existing in the closed pores do not flow back into the second internal space 40, they cannot be pumped out by the auxiliary pump cell 50.
- the sensor element 101 may light off only after the oxygen that cannot be pumped out by the auxiliary pump cell 50 is pumped out by the measurement pump cell 41.
- the CPU 92 continues the start-up measurement pump control process without performing step S140 until the sensor element 101 is lit off after the pump current Ip1 stabilizes near the target current Ip1 *. ..
- the CPU 92 may perform step S140 after a predetermined time has elapsed after making an affirmative determination in step S130.
- the pump current Ip1 is near the target current Ip1 * for this predetermined time.
- the time may be set to be about the same as the time from when the sensor element 101 becomes stable to when the sensor element 101 is lit off.
- the laminated body corresponds to the element body of the present invention
- the outer pump electrode 23 corresponds to the outer measurement electrode
- the third internal space 61 corresponds to the measurement chamber
- the measurement electrode 44 corresponds to the inner measurement electrode for measurement.
- the pump cell 41 corresponds to the measurement pump cell
- the reference electrode 42 corresponds to the reference electrode

- the sensor element 101 corresponds to the sensor element.
- the pump current Ip2 corresponds to the measurement pump current
- the control device 90 corresponds to the pump cell control unit and the specific gas concentration detection unit. Further, the control device 90 corresponds to the heater control unit, the first internal vacant space 20 and the second internal vacant space 40 correspond to the oxygen concentration adjusting chamber, and the inner pump electrode 22 and the auxiliary pump electrode 51 correspond to the inner adjusting pump electrode.
- the outer pump electrode 23 corresponds to the outer adjustment pump electrode
- the main pump cell 21 and the auxiliary pump cell 50 correspond to the adjustment pump cell
- the main pump control process and the auxiliary pump control process correspond to the adjustment pump control process. do.
- the inner pump electrode 22 corresponds to the inner main pump electrode
- the outer pump electrode 23 corresponds to the outer main pump electrode
- the auxiliary pump electrode 51 corresponds to the inner auxiliary pump electrode
- the outer pump electrode 23 corresponds to the outer auxiliary pump electrode.
- the pump current Ip1 corresponds to the auxiliary pump current.
- the measurement pump cell 41 is controlled so that the voltage V2 becomes the starting target value V2a * higher than the normal target value V2b * when the sensor element 101 is started. Since the start-up measurement pump control process for pumping out oxygen from the third internal vacant space 61 is performed, the third is performed from before the start-up as compared with the case where the normal time measurement pump control process is performed from the start-up time of the sensor element 101. Oxygen existing in the internal space 61 can be quickly removed. Therefore, the write-off time of the sensor element 101 is shortened.
- the CPU 92 starts the start-up measurement pump control process when the heater control process is started and the heater temperature Th reaches a predetermined threshold value Thref equal to or less than the target temperature Th *. Therefore, the CPU 92 can appropriately determine the start timing of the start-up measurement pump control process based on the heater temperature Th.
- the sensor element 101 has an adjustment pump cell for adjusting the oxygen concentration of the oxygen concentration adjustment chamber provided on the upstream side of the third internal vacant space 61 in the gas flow section to be measured. Then, when the sensor element 101 is activated, the CPU 92 performs an adjustment pump control process for operating the adjustment pump cell, and determines that the oxygen concentration in the oxygen concentration adjustment chamber is stable based on the operation of the adjustment pump cell. Switch from the pump control process for measurement at startup to the pump control process for normal measurement.
- the oxygen concentration adjusting chamber on the upstream side thereof is in a state where a large amount of oxygen (oxygen not derived from a specific gas) is present (for example, atmospheric atmosphere).
- the oxygen existing in the oxygen concentration adjusting chamber before the sensor element 101 is activated can also be removed. Further, since the oxygen concentration adjusting chamber and the third internal vacant space 61 communicate with each other, the oxygen in the third internal vacant space 61 can be removed by the operation of the adjusting pump cell. Further, since the oxygen concentration adjusting chamber and the third internal vacant space 61 communicate with each other as described above, when the oxygen concentration in the oxygen concentration adjusting chamber is stable, the oxygen in the third internal vacant space 61 is sufficiently drawn. It has been issued.
- the start-up measurement pump control process is switched to the normal start-up measurement pump control process at startup. It is possible to appropriately switch from the measurement pump control process to the normal measurement pump control process.
- the oxygen concentration adjusting chamber includes a first internal vacant space 20 and a second internal vacant space 40 provided on the downstream side of the first internal vacant space 20 and on the upstream side of the third internal vacant space 61.
- the adjusting pump cell has a main pump cell 21 for adjusting the oxygen concentration of the first internal space 20 and an auxiliary pump cell 50 for adjusting the oxygen concentration of the second internal space 40.
- the adjustment pump control process includes an auxiliary pump control process that controls the auxiliary pump cell 50 so that the oxygen concentration in the second internal space 40 becomes the target concentration, and a pump current Ip1 that flows to the auxiliary pump cell 50 by the auxiliary pump control process. Includes a main pump control process that controls the main pump cell 21 so that is the target current Ip1 *.
- the CPU 92 determines that the pump current Ip1 is stable in the vicinity of the target current Ip1 *, the CPU 92 switches from the start-up measurement pump control process to the normal time measurement pump control process. Thereby, it is possible to appropriately switch from the start-up measurement pump control process to the normal time measurement pump control process based on the pump current Ip1.
- the measuring electrode 44 contains at least one of Pt and Rh.
- Precious metals such as Pt and Rh may combine with oxygen in the third internal space 61 to oxidize, and this oxygen reduces the detection accuracy of the specific gas concentration. Therefore, when the sensor element 101 is started, it is attached to the measurement electrode 44. It is necessary to reduce the oxide of the contained noble metal and then pump out this oxygen from the third internal space 61. Then, since it takes more time to reduce the oxide of the noble metal and pump out oxygen than to pump out the oxygen molecules in the third internal space 61, if there is an oxidized precious metal in the third internal space 61. The light-off time tends to be long.
- the oxidized noble metal can be reduced at an early stage, and the light-off time can be reduced. Can be shortened. Therefore, in the present embodiment in which the measurement electrode 44 includes Pt and Rh, it is highly significant to perform the start-up measurement pump control process.
- the CPU 92 determines that the pump current Ip1 is stable in the vicinity of the target current Ip1 *, it is considered that the end condition of the pump control process for measurement at startup is satisfied, and at startup.
- the switching from the measurement pump control process to the normal measurement pump control process was performed, but the present invention is not limited to this.
- the sensor element 101 is lit off, in other words, when the oxygen in the third internal space 61 is sufficiently pumped out, the start-up measurement pump control process can be terminated so that the start-up measurement pump control process can be completed. All you have to do is set the end conditions. For example, when a predetermined time has elapsed since the heater 72 was energized, or when a predetermined time has elapsed since the start-up measurement pump control process was started, the start-up measurement pump control process is terminated. May be good.
- FIG. 5 is a flowchart showing an example of the startup control process of the modified example.
- FIG. 6 is a graph showing an example of the state of the start-up control process and the normal time control process of the modified example. In FIG. 5, the same processing as in FIG. 3 is assigned the same step number as in FIG. 3, and the description thereof will be omitted.
- FIG. 6 is a addition to FIG. 4 showing the state of time change of the voltage V2open for measurement at the time of opening.
- the CPU 92 does not control the flow of current through the measurement electrode 44 and the reference electrode 42.
- the open measurement voltage V2open has reached a predetermined threshold value V2opref or higher (step S230)
- V2opref a predetermined threshold value
- the start-up measurement pump control process causes the pump current to flow to the measurement electrode 44. Ip2 is flowing.
- step S230 the CPU 92 measures the voltage V2 in a state where the start-up measurement pump control process is temporarily stopped, specifically, in a state where the application of the voltage Vp2 from the variable power supply 46 is stopped.
- the measured value is defined as the voltage V2open for measurement at the time of opening.
- the open measurement voltage V2open is a value corresponding to the oxygen concentration in the third internal space 61, and the lower the oxygen concentration, the larger the value. Further, since the open measurement voltage V2open is measured in a state where the current is not controlled to flow through the measurement electrode 44 and the reference electrode 42, it is not easily affected by the voltage drop due to the current.
- the open measurement voltage V2open is more accurate than the voltage V2 (voltage V2 during execution of the start-up measurement pump control process) measured in a state where the current is controlled to flow through the measurement electrode 44.
- the value corresponds to the oxygen concentration in the third internal space 61.
- the threshold value V2opref is predetermined as a value of the voltage V2open for measurement at the time of opening in a state where oxygen in the third internal space 61 is sufficiently pumped out. For example, as shown in FIG. 6, when the start-up measurement pump control process is started, the value of the open-time measurement voltage V2open increases, and oxygen existing in the third internal vacant space 61 before the start-up increases.
- this steady-state value measured in advance in an experiment is set as a threshold value V2opref.
- the threshold value V2opref is set to 200 mV.
- the threshold value V2opref may be a value slightly lower than the steady value of the open measurement voltage V2open. If a negative determination is made in step S230, the CPU 92 repeatedly executes step S230 and waits until a positive determination is made. If a positive determination is made in step S230, the CPU 92 executes the above-mentioned step S140 to end the startup control process.
- the open measurement voltage V2open is a value corresponding to the oxygen concentration in the third internal space 61. Therefore, by comparing the open measurement voltage V2open with the threshold value V2opref, the third internal space It can be appropriately determined whether or not the oxygen in 61 has been sufficiently pumped out. Therefore, even when the CPU 92 performs step S230 of FIG. 5 instead of step S130 of FIG. 3, it is possible to appropriately switch from the start-up measurement pump control process to the normal time measurement pump control process. As described above, the time when the pump current Ip1 stabilizes near the target current Ip1 * may be slightly earlier than the time t3 when the sensor element 101 is lit off.
- the open measurement voltage V2open is a value corresponding to the oxygen itself existing in the third internal space 61, so that the time when the open measurement voltage V2open becomes a steady value is set. There is almost no time difference from the time when the sensor element 101 is lit off.
- oxygen in the third internal space 61 is pumped out around the outer pump electrode 23, but it is not limited to the outer pump electrode 23 and is arranged in a place other than the gas flow section. Oxygen should be pumped around the electrodes.
- a voltage is applied between the measurement electrode 44 and the reference electrode 42 to allow a pump current to flow, so that oxygen in the third internal space 61 is pumped out around the reference electrode 42. May be. That is, in the start-up measurement pump control process of the above-described embodiment, oxygen in the third internal space 61 is pumped out to the outside of the element body around the outer pump electrode 23, but the element body such as around the reference electrode 42.
- oxygen may be pumped out inside.
- it is preferable to pump it out around an electrode arranged other than the measured gas flow portion such as the reference electrode 42.
- oxygen when oxygen is pumped into the element body, it is preferable to pump oxygen into a region of the device body that does not communicate with the third internal space 61.
- the voltage Vp2 applied to the measurement pump cell 41 is preferably less than 1500 mV.
- the voltage Vp2 is 1500 mV or more, oxygen ions in the solid electrolyte are deficient, electron conduction of the solid electrolyte is developed, and the sensor element 101 may be blackened and cannot be used.
- the voltage Vp2 is less than 1500 mV. By doing so, such a problem can be suppressed.
- the higher the start-up target value V2a * the higher the voltage Vp2 during the start-up measurement pump control process. Therefore, the start-up target value V2a * is set as a value so that the voltage Vp2 does not exceed 1500 mV. It is preferable to keep it.
- the pump control process for start-up measurement is performed in a state where the solid electrolyte is not sufficiently activated, oxygen in the third internal space 61 is not pumped out and the voltage V2 does not approach the start-up target value V2a *.
- the voltage Vp2 tends to be high due to the feedback control. Therefore, if the start-up measurement pump control process is performed in a state where the solid electrolyte is not sufficiently activated, the voltage Vp2 tends to be 1500 mV or more during the start-up measurement pump control process. In consideration of this point, it is preferable to appropriately determine the start condition (value of the threshold value Thref in the above-described embodiment) of the pump control process for start-up measurement so that the voltage Vp2 does not become 1500 mV or more.
- the CPU 92 controls the heater 72 so that the heater temperature Th becomes the target temperature Th *, but the temperature of the sensor element is not limited to the heater temperature Th but is the temperature of the heater 72 or the element body.
- the heater 72 may be controlled so that the temperature reaches the target temperature.
- the resistance value of the circuit of the measuring pump cell 41 or the resistance value of the circuit of the oxygen partial pressure detection sensor cell 82 for measuring pump control is measured as a value representing the temperature of the element body (a value that can be converted into temperature).
- the heater 72 may be controlled so that the resistance value becomes the target resistance value.
- the start-up measurement pump control process is started when the heater temperature Th reaches a predetermined threshold value Thref or higher, but the present invention is not limited to this.
- the sensor element temperature reaches a predetermined threshold value or higher (for example, when the resistance value of the circuit of the measurement pump cell 41 reaches a predetermined threshold value or lower), not limited to the heater temperature Th, the start-up measurement pump control process is started.
- the gas sensor 100 may include a temperature detection unit such as a thermocouple, and the sensor element temperature (temperature of the heater 72 or the temperature of the element body) itself may be directly measured by this temperature sensor.
- the CPU 92 may control the heater 72 so that the sensor element temperature becomes the target temperature based on the measured sensor element temperature.
- the CPU 92 determines that the start condition of the start-up measurement pump control process is satisfied when the heater temperature Th reaches a predetermined threshold value Thref or higher, but the present invention is not limited to this.
- the start condition of the start-up measurement pump control process is set so that the start-up measurement pump control process can be started when the solid electrolyte contained in the measurement pump cell 41 controlled by the start-up measurement pump control process is activated. You just have to decide.
- the start-up measurement pump control process may be started when a predetermined time has elapsed from the start of energization of the heater 72.
- the start-up measurement is performed so that the start-up measurement pump control process can be started when the oxygen bound to the constituent material of the measurement electrode 44 is in a state suitable for pumping out.
- the start condition of the pump control process may be set.
- the start condition of the pump control process for start-up measurement may be determined based on the phase diagram of the constituent material of the measurement electrode 44.
- An example of the start condition when the measurement electrode 44 contains Rh as a constituent material will be described.
- FIG. 7 is a phase diagram of Rh 2 O 3 (Source: V. K. Tagirov, D. M. Chizhikov, E. K. Kazenas, and L. K. Shubochkin, Zh. Neorg.
- the vertical axis of FIG. 7 is the oxygen partial pressure, and the horizontal axis is the temperature.
- the thick straight line in FIG. 7 is a straight line (equilibrium line) showing the relationship between the oxygen partial pressure and the temperature at which Rh 2 O 3 and Rh are in an equilibrium state.
- the start condition of the start-up measurement pump control process may be set so that the start-up measurement pump control process is performed in the state where is located in the lower left region of the equilibrium line). For example, when the log of the oxygen partial pressure (logP O2 ) of the third internal space 61 corresponding to the start-up target value V2a * of the start-up measurement pump control process is -2 (that is, the oxygen partial pressure is 0. (When it was 01 Torr), as shown by the broken line added to the phase diagram of FIG.
- the start condition of the start-up measurement pump control process may be set so that the start-up measurement pump control process can be started when the temperature of the measurement electrode 44 becomes Ta ° C. or higher.
- a threshold value Thref may be set as a lower limit value of the heater temperature Th required to raise the temperature of the measurement electrode 44 to Ta ° C. or higher.
- the start-up measurement pump control process is started, and the temperature of the measurement electrode 44 is Ta ° C. for the predetermined time from the start of the heater control process. It may be determined based on the time required to reach the above. As can be seen from FIG. 7, the higher the temperature of the measurement electrode 44 and the smaller the oxygen partial pressure of the third internal space 61, the more easily Rh 2 O 3 is reduced. In other words, the smaller the oxygen partial pressure of the third internal space 61, the lower the temperature of the measurement electrode 44 suitable for starting the start-up measurement pump control process.
- the start-up target value V2a * is set to a large value, the start-up measurement pump control process can be started in a short time from the start of the heater control process by that amount.
- the start-up target value V2a * it is preferable to set the start-up target value V2a * as a value such that the voltage Vp2 does not exceed 1500 mV. Therefore, in consideration of this point as well, the start-up target value V2a * should not become too large. It is preferable to set a start-up target value V2a *.
- the start-up measurement pump control process after the solid electrolyte is activated, so that the temperature required for activating the solid electrolyte and the reduction of the oxide of the constituent material of the measurement electrode 44 can be obtained. It is preferable to determine the start condition of the pump control process for start-up measurement based on the suitable temperature and the higher temperature. Even when the measurement electrode 44 contains Pt as a constituent material, the start condition of the pump control process for start-up measurement suitable for the reduction of the oxide of Pt may be determined based on the phase diagram of Pt as in the above example. ..
- the CPU 92 also starts the adjustment pump control process (main pump control process and auxiliary pump control process) at the same time as starting the start-up measurement pump control process, but the present invention is not limited to this. There may be a time lag between the start timing of the adjustment pump control process and the start timing of the start-up measurement pump control process. Since the adjustment pump cell (main pump cell 21 and auxiliary pump cell 50) has a higher ability to pump oxygen than the measurement pump cell 41, it is used for adjustment at the same time as or before the start of the measurement pump control process at startup. It is preferable to start the pump control process (main pump control process and auxiliary pump control process). Further, it is preferable to perform the adjustment pump control process (main pump control process and auxiliary pump control process) during the start-up measurement pump control process.
- the oxygen concentration adjusting chamber has a first internal vacant space 20 and a second internal vacant space 40, but the present invention is not limited to this, and for example, the oxygen concentration adjusting chamber includes yet another internal vacant space. Alternatively, one of the first internal vacant space 20 and the second internal vacant space 40 may be omitted.
- the adjusting pump cell has a main pump cell 21 and an auxiliary pump cell 50, but the present invention is not limited to this, and for example, the adjusting pump cell may include yet another pump cell, or the main pump cell may be provided. One of 21 and the auxiliary pump cell 50 may be omitted.
- the auxiliary pump cell 50 may be omitted.
- the CPU 92 may perform, for example, a process of controlling the main pump cell 21 so that the oxygen concentration in the oxygen concentration adjusting chamber (first internal space 20) becomes the target concentration as the adjusting pump control process. More specifically, the target value V0 * is set in advance, and the CPU 92 is variable so that the voltage V0 becomes the target value V0 * (that is, the oxygen concentration of the first internal space 20 becomes the target concentration).
- the main pump cell 21 may be controlled by feedback-controlling the pump voltage Vp0 of the power supply 24.
- the CPU 92 may determine whether or not the oxygen concentration in the first internal space 20 is stable based on the value of the voltage V0 or the value of the pump current Ip0. More specifically, the CPU 92 may determine that the oxygen concentration of the first internal space 20 is stable when the voltage V0 reaches a predetermined threshold value or more, or after the pump current Ip0 rises once. It may be determined that the oxygen concentration of the first internal vacant space 20 is stable when it descends and reaches a predetermined threshold value or less.
- the outer pump electrode 23 is a part of the main pump cell 21, the outer main pump electrode disposed on the outer part of the sensor element 101 exposed to the measured gas, and a part of the auxiliary pump cell 50. It is arranged on the outer auxiliary pump electrode arranged on the outer part of the sensor element 101 exposed to the measured gas, and on the part of the measuring pump cell 41 exposed on the outer side of the sensor element 101 exposed to the measured gas. It also serves as the provided outer measurement electrode, but it is not limited to this. One or more of the outer main pump electrode, the outer auxiliary pump electrode, and the outer measurement electrode may be provided on the outside of the sensor element 101 separately from the outer pump electrode 23.
- the outer pump electrode 23 is exposed to the outside of the sensor element 101, but the outer pump electrode 23 is not limited to this, and the outer pump electrode 23 is outside the element body (layers 1 to 6) so as to be in contact with the gas to be measured. It suffices if it is provided in.
- the sensor element 101 may be provided with a porous protective layer that covers the element main body (layers 1 to 6), and the outer pump electrode 23 may also be coated with the porous protective layer.
- the sensor element 101 of the gas sensor 100 includes, but is not limited to, the first internal space 20, the second internal space 40, and the third internal space 61.
- the third internal space 61 may not be provided.
- a gas introduction port 10 and a first diffusion rate controlling unit 11 are provided between the lower surface of the second solid electrolyte layer 6 and the upper surface of the first solid electrolyte layer 4.
- the buffer space 12, the second diffusion rate controlling unit 13, the first internal space 20, the third diffusion rate controlling unit 30, and the second internal space 40 are adjacent to each other in this order. ..
- the measurement electrode 44 is arranged on the upper surface of the first solid electrolyte layer 4 in the second internal space 40.
- the measuring electrode 44 is covered with a fourth diffusion rate controlling unit 45.
- the fourth diffusion rate-determining unit 45 is a film made of a ceramic porous body such as alumina (Al 2 O 3 ).
- the fourth diffusion rate control unit 45 plays a role of limiting the amount of NOx flowing into the measurement electrode 44, similarly to the fourth diffusion rate control unit 60 of the above-described embodiment.
- the fourth diffusion rate controlling unit 45 also functions as a protective film for the measurement electrode 44.
- the ceiling electrode portion 51a of the auxiliary pump electrode 51 is formed up to directly above the measurement electrode 44. Even with the sensor element 201 having such a configuration, the NOx concentration can be detected based on, for example, the pump current Ip2, as in the above-described embodiment. In this case, the periphery of the measurement electrode 44 functions as a measurement chamber.
- the element body of the sensor element 101 is a laminated body having a plurality of solid electrolyte layers (layers 1 to 6), but the present invention is not limited to this.
- the element main body of the sensor element 101 may include at least one oxygen ion conductive solid electrolyte layer, and may be provided with a gas flow unit to be measured inside.
- the layers 1 to 5 other than the second solid electrolyte layer 6 may be a structural layer made of a material other than the solid electrolyte (for example, a layer made of alumina).
- each electrode of the sensor element 101 may be arranged on the second solid electrolyte layer 6.
- the reference gas introduction space 43 is provided in the spacer layer 5 instead of the first solid electrolyte layer 4, and the atmosphere introduction layer 48 is provided between the first solid electrolyte layer 4 and the third substrate layer 3 instead of being provided in the second solid. It may be provided between the electrolyte layer 6 and the spacer layer 5, and the reference electrode 42 may be provided behind the third internal space 61 and on the lower surface of the second solid electrolyte layer 6.
- the control device 90 sets (feedback control) the target value V0 * of the voltage V0 based on the pump current Ip1 so that the pump current Ip1 becomes the target current Ip1 * in the main pump control process.
- the pump voltage Vp0 is feedback-controlled so that the voltage V0 becomes the target value V0 *
- other control may be performed.
- the control device 90 may feedback-control the pump voltage Vp0 based on the pump current Ip1 so that the pump current Ip1 becomes the target current Ip1 * in the main pump control process.
- control device 90 directly controls the pump voltage Vp0 based on the pump current Ip1 without acquiring the voltage V0 from the main pump control oxygen partial pressure detection sensor cell 80 and setting the target value V0 * ( As a result, the pump current Ip0 may be controlled). Also in this case, the CPU 92 can determine whether or not the end condition of the start-up measurement pump control process is satisfied by using, for example, the process of step S130 of FIG. 3 or step S230 of FIG. 5 described above. ..
- the gas sensor 100 detects the NOx concentration as the specific gas concentration, but the gas sensor 100 is not limited to this, and other oxide concentrations may be used as the specific gas concentration.
- the specific gas is an oxide
- oxygen is generated when the specific gas itself is reduced in the third internal space 61 as in the above-described embodiment, so that the CPU 92 is based on the detection value corresponding to the oxygen.
- a specific gas concentration can be detected.
- the specific gas may be a non-oxide such as ammonia.
- the specific gas is converted to an oxide, for example, in the first internal space 20 (for example, if it is ammonia, it is oxidized and converted to NO), so that the converted oxide is converted.
- the CPU 92 can acquire a detection value corresponding to the oxygen and detect the specific gas concentration.
- the gas sensor 100 can detect the specific gas concentration based on the oxygen generated in the third internal space 61 derived from the specific gas. ..
- the start-up target value V2a * may be set according to the volume of the measurement electrode 44.
- the present inventors may have different write-off times depending on the volume of the measurement electrode 44 even if the start-up target value V2a * is the same, and the start-up target value V2a * is too high or too low.
- the effect of shortening the light-off time may be small, and the optimum start-up target value V2a * exists, and when the volume of the measurement electrode 44 changes, the optimum start-up target value V2a * also changes. I found out what to do. This will be explained in detail below.
- the relationship between time [sec] and time was investigated as follows. First, the sensor element 101 and the gas sensor 100 of the above-described embodiment described with reference to FIGS. 1 and 2 were used as Experimental Example 1.
- the volume C of the measurement electrode 44 in Experimental Example 1 was 4 ⁇ 10 -3 mm 3 .
- the measurement electrode 44 was a porous cermet electrode of Pt and Rh and ZrO 2 as described above.
- the gas sensors 100 similar to those in Experimental Example 1 were designated as Experimental Examples 2 to 5 except that the volume C was variously changed as shown in Table 1 by changing the thickness and the length in the front-rear direction of the measurement electrode 44.
- the thickness of the measuring electrode 44 was doubled as compared with Experimental Example 1.
- the thickness of the measuring electrode 44 was doubled as compared with Experimental Example 2.
- the thickness of the measuring electrode 44 was 1.5 times and the length in the front-rear direction was doubled as compared with Experimental Example 2.
- the thickness of the measuring electrode 44 was doubled and the length in the anteroposterior direction was doubled as compared with Experimental Example 2.
- the gas sensor 100 of Experimental Example 1 when the start-up control process shown in FIG.
- FIG. 9 is a graph of Table 1 and is a graph showing the relationship between the volume C of the measurement electrode 44, the difference ⁇ V, and the write-off time.
- the difference ⁇ V when the difference ⁇ V is within the range of 100 mV to 200 mV, it is lighter off than when the pump control process for measurement at startup is not performed (in other words, when the difference ⁇ V is 0 mV). The time is short. Therefore, all of Experimental Examples 1 to 5 correspond to the examples of the present invention.
- FIG. 10 is a graph showing an example of undershoot of the pump current Ip2.
- the times t0, t1, and t3 in FIG. 10 are the same as the times shown in FIG.
- the pump current Ip2 immediately becomes a value corresponding to the NOx concentration in the measured gas.
- an undershoot of the pump current Ip2 may occur, and the value of the pump current Ip2 may become a value corresponding to the NOx concentration in the measured gas after the time t3'after that. Since the light-off time in this case is the time from time t0 to t3', the light-off time is lengthened by the period during which the undershoot occurs (time t3 to t3').
- the reason why such an undershoot occurs is considered as follows.
- the target value of the voltage V2 changes from the start-up target value V2a * to the normal time target value V2b * ( ⁇ V2a *).
- the oxygen concentration of the third internal space 61 may be lower than the oxygen concentration corresponding to the normal target value V2b *. Therefore, immediately after switching to the normal time measurement pump control process, the control unit 91 raises the oxygen concentration of the third internal space 61 to the oxygen concentration corresponding to the normal time target value V2b *.
- the measuring pump cell 41 may be controlled so as to pump oxygen into the third internal space 61 instead of pumping oxygen from the place 61.
- the pump current Ip2 becomes a negative value (positive or negative is reversed with respect to the pump current Ip2 during the start-up measurement pump control process).
- water in the gas to be measured may be decomposed to generate hydrogen due to the voltage Vp2 applied to the measurement electrode 44.
- this hydrogen reacts with oxygen to reduce the oxygen concentration in the third internal space 61, which also reduces the pump current Ip2 or a negative value. May become.
- the larger the volume C of the measuring electrode 44 the larger the surface area of the measuring electrode 44 (including not only the outer surface of the measuring electrode 44 but also the surface surface of the pores inside the measuring electrode 44).
- the larger the volume C the larger the volume C.
- the light-off time (for example, the time t0 to t3'in FIG. 10) can be shortened.
- the difference ⁇ V if the value of the start-up target value V2a *, or more accurately, the difference ⁇ V is too small, the time for the start-up measurement pump control process to be performed becomes long (from before the start-up in the third internal space 61). It is considered that the effect of shortening the light-off time is reduced by increasing the time required to pump out the oxygen present in the. Further, if the difference ⁇ V is too large, it is considered that the effect of shortening the write-off time becomes small because the time during which the undershoot occurs becomes long. Therefore, it is considered that there is an optimum difference ⁇ V for a certain sensor element 101, which has the highest effect of shortening the write-off time.
- the volume C of the measurement electrode 44 is preferably 8 ⁇ 10 -3 mm 3 or more.
- the oxygen pumping capacity around the measurement electrode 44 by the measurement pump cell 41 becomes sufficiently high. Therefore, Experimental Examples 2 to 5 having a volume C of 8 ⁇ 10 -3 mm 3 or more as compared with Experimental Example 1 are preferable. Further, if the difference ⁇ V is too large, the voltage Vp2 during the start-up measurement pump control process becomes a high value, and as described above, the sensor element 101 may be blackened and cannot be used.
- the difference ⁇ V is preferably 200 mV or less.
- the difference ⁇ V is preferably 120 mV or more and 200 mV or less so that the light-off time can be set to the minimum value or its vicinity and the difference ⁇ V does not exceed 200 mV.
- the volume C is preferably 8 ⁇ 10 -3 mm 3 or more and 32 ⁇ 10 -3 mm 3 or less, and the difference ⁇ V is preferably 120 mV or more and 200 mV or less.
- the larger the volume C the larger the difference ⁇ V required to sufficiently increase the effect of shortening the light-off time, but the volume C is 8 ⁇ 10 -3 mm 3 or more and 32 ⁇ 10 -3 mm 3 or less.
- the effect of shortening the write-off time can be sufficiently enhanced while satisfying the above-mentioned lower limit of the volume C and the upper limit of the difference ⁇ V.
- the thickness of the measuring electrode 44 may be, for example, 10 ⁇ m or more and 40 ⁇ m or less.
- the area of the upper surface of the measuring electrode 44 in other words, the product of the left-right width of the measuring electrode 44 and the front-back length may be 0.2 mm 2 or more and 1.2 mm 2 or less.
- the width of the measuring electrode 44 in the left-right direction may be 0.5 mm or more and 2.5 mm or less.
- the starting target value V2a * is preferably 600 mV or less.
- the CPU 92 determines that the oxygen concentration in the third internal space 61 is stable based on the operation of the measurement pump cell 41.
- the end condition of the start-up measurement pump control process is satisfied. You may judge.
- the CPU 92 determines that the oxygen concentration in the third internal space 61 is stable when the pump current Ip2 flowing through the measurement pump cell 41 is stabilized by the start-up measurement pump control process, and determines that the start-up measurement pump is stable. It may be determined that the end condition of the control process is satisfied.
- the present inventors have found that during the start-up measurement pump control process, a stable region in which the pump current Ip2 is stabilized appears due to the stabilization of the oxygen concentration in the third internal space 61.
- FIG. 11 is an explanatory diagram of the stable region of the pump current Ip2 and the one-time derivative value and the two-time derivative value of the pump current Ip2.
- the times t0, t1 and t3 in FIG. 11 are the same as the times shown in FIG. 4, and the start-up measurement pump control process is started at time t1 and the normal time control process is started from time t3. .. Further, the time t3'in FIG. 11 is the same as the time t3'shown in FIG.
- the pump current Ip1 is determined to be stable near the target current Ip1 * (the pump current Ip1 is shown in FIG. 11).
- a stable region in which the pump current Ip2 is stable may appear.
- the CPU 92 feedback-controls the voltage Vp2 of the variable power supply 46 so that the voltage V2 becomes the start-up target value V2a *, so that the pump current Ip2 at this time is stable. It is considered that the oxygen concentration in the third internal vacant space 61 is stable, and it is considered that the oxygen existing in the third internal vacant space 61 was sufficiently pumped out by the start-up measurement pump control process before the start-up. Therefore, by switching from the start-up measurement pump control process to the normal time measurement pump control process when the pump current Ip2 is stable, the start-up measurement pump control process can be changed to the normal time measurement pump control process.
- the stable region of the pump current Ip2 may appear earlier than the time t3.
- the pump current Ip2 stabilizes faster than the pump current Ip1 stabilizes near the target current Ip1 *, and the stable region of the pump current Ip2 becomes stable as shown in FIG. It may appear earlier than the time t3.
- the volume of the space in the third internal space 61 is smaller than that in the second internal space 40, and the oxygen concentration in the third internal space 61 is higher than the target concentration of the oxygen concentration in the second internal space 40. It is thought that this is due to the fact that the target concentration is small.
- the pump current Ip1 when the pump current Ip2 is stable, the pump current Ip1 is close to the target current Ip1 * as in the above-described embodiment by switching from the pump control process for start-up measurement to the pump control process for normal measurement. It is possible to switch at an earlier timing than when switching when it is stable. Thereby, the write-off time of the sensor element 101 can be further shortened. On the contrary, the time when the pump current Ip1 stabilizes near the target current Ip1 * may be earlier than the time when the pump current Ip2 stabilizes. This is because, as described above, the auxiliary pump cell 50 does not flow back from the third internal space 61 to the second internal space 40 (oxygen bonded to the constituent material of the measuring electrode 44 or in the closed pores of the measuring electrode 44).
- Whether or not the pump current Ip2 is stable may be determined based on the one-time differential value of the pump current Ip2 flowing through the measurement pump cell 41 by the start-up measurement pump control process. For example, as shown in FIGS. 11A and 11B, when the pump current Ip2 reaches the stable region, the one-time derivative value (dIp2 / dt) of the pump current Ip2 becomes a value 0 or a value near 0. Therefore, when the one-time differential value can be regarded as a value 0 (that is, when the slope of the pump current Ip2 can be regarded as 0), it may be determined that the pump current Ip2 is stable.
- the pump current Ip2 is stable at the time tb when the one-time differential value becomes the value 0.
- the CPU 92 may determine that the pump current Ip2 is stable when the one-time differential value is included in a predetermined region that can be regarded as a value 0.
- This predetermined region may be, for example, a region near the value 0, or a region slightly smaller than the value 0 and exceeding a predetermined threshold value.
- the pump current Ip2 may be determined that the pump current Ip2 is stable when a predetermined threshold value is set to ⁇ 0.3 [ ⁇ A / s] and (dIp2 / dt)> ⁇ 0.3 [ ⁇ A / s] is satisfied.
- the one-time derivative value (dIp2 / dt) of the pump current Ip2 is, for example, the pump current Ip2 is repeatedly measured at a predetermined time interval, and the difference between the value measured this time and the value measured last time is divided at a predetermined time interval. It may be calculated as a value obtained. Further, as can be seen from FIG.
- the one-time differential value of the pump current Ip2 is 0 or a value even before the pump current Ip2 becomes a stable region after the start-up measurement pump control process is started at time t1. It may be near 0. Therefore, the CPU 92 is the time when the pump control process for measurement at startup is started, the pump current Ip2 once rises, and then starts to decrease (the time when the pump current Ip2 exceeds the peak, for example, time ta in FIG. 11B). It is preferable to determine whether or not the pump current Ip2 is stable based on the subsequent one-time differential value of the pump current Ip2.
- the CPU 92 may determine, for example, that when the pump current Ip2 once exceeds a predetermined threshold value and then falls below a predetermined threshold value, the pump current Ip2 once rises and then begins to decrease. Alternatively, the CPU 92 may determine that when the one-time differential value of the pump current Ip2 falls below a predetermined threshold value (negative value), the pump current Ip2 once rises and then begins to decrease.
- Whether or not the pump current Ip2 is stable may be determined based on the double derivative value of the pump current Ip2 flowing through the measurement pump cell 41 by the start-up measurement pump control process. For example, as shown in FIGS. 11A and 11C, when the pump current Ip2 reaches the stable region, the double derivative value (d 2 Ip2 / dt 2 ) of the pump current Ip2 becomes a value 0 or a value near 0. Therefore, when the double differential value can be regarded as a value 0 (that is, when it can be regarded as an inflection point of the pump current Ip2), it may be determined that the pump current Ip2 is stable.
- the pump current Ip2 is stable at the time ct when the double differential value becomes the value 0.
- the CPU 92 may determine that the pump current Ip2 is stable when the second derivative value is included in a predetermined region that can be regarded as a value 0.
- This predetermined region may be, for example, a region near the value 0, or a region slightly larger than the value 0 and less than a predetermined threshold.
- the double derivative value (dIp2 / dt) of the pump current Ip2 is, for example, the one derivative value derived this time and the one derived last time by repeatedly measuring the pump current Ip2 at a predetermined time interval and repeatedly deriving the derivative value once. It may be calculated as a value obtained by dividing the difference from the derivative value by a predetermined time interval.
- the CPU 92 starts the pump control process for measurement at startup and the pump current Ip2 once increases, as in the case of making a judgment based on the one-time differential value.
- the pump current Ip2 It is preferable to determine whether or not the pump current Ip2 is stable based on the two derivative values of the pump current Ip2 after the time when it starts to decrease from. Further, after the time when the pump current Ip2 rises once and then starts to decrease, and before the pump current Ip2 stabilizes, the double derivative value of the pump current Ip2 may be near 0 (for example, the time shown in FIG. 11C). Between ta and time tb).
- the CPU 92 determines that after the time when the pump current Ip2 once rises and then starts to decrease, and after the time when the pump current Ip2 starts to decrease, the second derivative value of the pump current Ip2 can be regarded as a value 0. Even if it is determined that the pump current Ip2 is stable when it is included in a region that can be regarded as a value 0 from a state higher than the region of (when the differential value decreases twice and enters a predetermined region that can be regarded as a value 0). good.
- the value of the pump current Ip2 fluctuates according to the NOx concentration. Therefore, if the NOx concentration in the gas to be measured fluctuates during the start-up measurement pump control process, the stable region of the pump current Ip2 may not appear. Therefore, when the CPU 92 can consider that the NOx concentration in the gas to be measured is stable, whether or not the end condition of the pump control process for start-up measurement is satisfied based on whether or not the pump current Ip2 is stable. It is preferable to determine. When it can be considered that the NOx concentration in the measured gas is stable, it also includes the case where it can be considered that there is no NOx in the measured gas.
- the NOx concentration in the gas to be measured can be considered to be stable include low load operation of the internal combustion engine, idling, and deceleration of the vehicle to which the gas sensor 100 is attached. Further, when the vehicle to which the gas sensor 100 is attached is a hybrid vehicle, as a specific example of the case where the NOx concentration in the gas to be measured can be regarded as stable even during the electric operation of the hybrid vehicle (when the engine is stopped). Can be mentioned. Whether or not the CPU 92 can be regarded as having a stable NOx concentration in the gas to be measured based on the information acquired from the engine ECU (not shown) of the internal combustion engine (for example, whether or not it corresponds to any of the above specific examples). ) May be determined, and in the case of an affirmative determination, it may be determined whether or not the pump current Ip2 is stable.
- the CPU 92 determines whether or not the end condition of the start-up measurement pump control process is satisfied based on whether or not the oxygen concentration in the third internal space 61 is stable, and any of the above-mentioned processes.
- the process of determining whether or not the end condition of the start-up measurement pump control process is satisfied may be performed in combination. That is, whether or not the end condition of the start-up measurement pump control process is satisfied may be determined by whether or not any one of the plurality of conditions is satisfied. In this way, when it is not possible to determine whether or not the end condition of the pump control process for start-up measurement is satisfied based on whether or not the oxygen concentration in the third internal space 61 is stable (for example, NOx in the gas to be measured).
- the pump control process for measurement at startup is changed to the pump control process for measurement during normal operation by determining whether other conditions are satisfied (for example, the determination in step S130 in FIG. 3 described above). Can be switched. Further, in this case, it is possible to omit the determination as to whether or not the NOx concentration in the measured gas can be regarded as stable.
- FIG. 12 is a flowchart showing an example of the start-up control process of the modified example.
- the same processing as in FIG. 3 is assigned the same step number as in FIG. 3, and the description thereof will be omitted.
- the CPU 92 determines whether or not the oxygen concentration in the measurement chamber (here, the third internal space 61) is stable. (Step S125).
- the CPU 92 determines that the pump current Ip2 once rises and then starts to decrease, and that the pump current Ip2 is stable based on at least one of the first derivative value and the second derivative value of the pump current Ip2. If this is the case, it is determined that the oxygen concentration in the third internal space 61 is stable. If the pump current Ip2 is rising, after it has risen but before it begins to decrease, or if the pump current Ip2 is not stable, the oxygen concentration in the third internal space 61 is stable in step S125. It is determined that this has not been done, and the process of step S130 is performed. If a negative determination is made in step S130, the process of step S125 is executed.
- step S140 When the CPU 92 makes an affirmative determination in either step S125 or step S130, the CPU 92 executes step S140 and shifts to the normal time control process.
- the process can be shifted to the normal time control process by the process of step S125, so that the start-up measurement pump control process can be changed to the normal time measurement pump control process. Can be properly switched to.
- the process in step S130 can shift to the normal time control process at time t3, so that the normal time control process can be reliably performed.
- step S125 and step S230 of FIG. 5 it is determined whether or not the end condition of the pump control process for start-up measurement is satisfied by combining step S125 and step S130, but step S125 and step S230 of FIG. 5 may be combined, or step S. S125, S130, and S230 may be combined.
- a determination as to whether or not the NOx concentration in the measured gas can be regarded as stable may be added. For example, after step S120 in FIG. 12, the CPU 92 determines whether or not the NOx concentration in the measured gas can be regarded as stable, and if it can be considered that the NOx concentration is stable, step S125. If the determination is made and the NOx concentration cannot be considered to be stable, the determination in step S130 may be performed.
- step S140 may be performed.
- step S130 may not be performed.
- the time when the pump current Ip1 stabilizes near the target current Ip1 * is early, and if the determination in step S130 is used, the switching from the start-up measurement pump control process to the normal time measurement pump control process becomes too early.
- the determination in step S125 is performed, so that switching can be performed at an appropriate timing that is not too early.
- the present invention can be used for a gas sensor that detects the concentration of a specific gas such as NOx in a gas to be measured such as the exhaust gas of an automobile.
