본 발명은 배터리 모듈에 관한 것이다.
최근, 노트북, 스마트 폰, 태블릿 컴퓨터와 같은 휴대용 전자 기기의 수요가 증대됨에 따라, 반복적으로 충방전이 가능한 고성능 이차 전지에 대한 연구가 활발히 진행되고 있다.
또한, 휴대용 전자 기기와 같은 소형 장치뿐 아니라, 자동차, 로봇, 위성과 같은 중대형 장치에도 이차 전지가 널리 이용되고 있다. 특히, 화석 연료의 고갈 및 환경 오염에 대한 관심이 높아지면서, 하이브리드 자동차와 전기 자동차에 대한 연구가 활발하게 진행되고 있다. 이러한 하이브리드 자동차나 전기 자동차에 있어서의 가장 핵심적 부품은 모터로 전력을 공급하는 배터리 팩이다. 배터리 팩은 복수의 배터리 셀을 포함하는 배터리 모듈을 포함하며, 복수의 배터리 셀이 서로 직렬 및/또는 병렬로 연결됨에 따라, 배터리 모듈의 용량 및 출력이 증대된다.

이를 위해, 배터리 셀은 과충전, 과방전 및 과전류를 방지하기 위하여 배터리 관리 유닛과 용접(예를 들면, 저항 용접, 레이저 용접, 스팟 용접)에 의해 결합되어 전기적으로 연결한다. 그러나, 배터리 셀 및 배터리 관리 유닛이 용접에 의해 결합되므로, 배터리 셀 및 배터리 관리 유닛 사이에서 용접 불량이 발생하는 경우, 해당 배터리 셀을 포함하는 배터리 모듈 전체를 폐기해야 하므로 부품의 손실이 발생하고, 배터리 모듈의 제조 비용이 증가하는 문제가 있다. 또한, 배터리 보호 모듈에 용접 공정에 요구되는 용접 패드를 구비할 필요가 있기 때문에, 용접 패드가 차지하는 부분의 크기만큼 배터리 모듈의 크기가 증가하는 문제가 있다. 또한, 배터리 셀 및 배터리 관리 유닛을 용접하기 위해 별도의 용접 설비가 요구되며, 용접 조건이 항상 관리되어야 하는 문제가 있다.
본 발명은 종래 기술의 문제를 해결하기 위한 것으로, 본 발명의 목적은 용접에 의하지 않고 보호 회로 모듈 및 배터리 관리 유닛이 연결되도록 구성되는 배터리 모듈을 제공하는 것이다.
상기한 목적을 달성하기 위한 본 발명의 실시예에 따른 배터리 모듈은, 배터리 셀; 배터리 셀에 일체로 결합되며 열 차단 소자를 일체로 구비하는 보호 회로 모듈; 보호 회로 모듈과 연결되는 배터리 관리 유닛; 및 보호 회로 모듈 및 배터리 관리 유닛을 탈착 가능하게 연결하는 연결 유닛을 포함할 수 있다.
연결 유닛은, 보호 회로 모듈 및 배터리 관리 유닛 중 어느 하나에 연결되는 플러그와, 보호 회로 모듈 및 배터리 관리 유닛 중 다른 하나에 구비되어 플러그가 분리 가능하게 끼워지는 소켓을 포함할 수 있다.
본 발명의 실시예에 따른 배터리 모듈은, 보호 회로 모듈에 일체로 결합되는 열 차단 소자를 더 포함할 수 있다.
배터리 셀은 열 차단 소자를 통해 보호 회로 모듈에 연결될 수 있다.
또한, 상기한 목적을 달성하기 위한 본 발명의 실시예에 따른 배터리 모듈은, 복수의 배터리 셀; 복수의 배터리 셀에 각각 연결되는 복수의 보호 회로 모듈; 복수의 보호 회로 모듈과 연결되는 배터리 관리 유닛; 및 복수의 보호 회로 모듈 및 배터리 관리 유닛을 탈착 가능하게 연결하며, 복수의 보호 회로 모듈을 상호 연결하는 복수의 연결 유닛을 포함할 수 있다.
복수의 연결 유닛은, 보호 회로 모듈 및 배터리 관리 유닛을 연결하는 제1 연결 유닛; 및 복수의 보호 회로 모듈 중 한 쌍의 보호 회로 모듈을 상호 연결하는 제2 연결 유닛을 포함할 수 있고, 제1 연결 유닛은, 보호 회로 모듈 및 배터리 관리 유닛 중 어느 하나에 제1 연결 라인을 통하여 연결되는 제1 플러그; 및 보호 회로 모듈 및 배터리 관리 유닛 중 다른 하나에 구비되어 제1 플러그가 끼워지는 제1 소켓을 포함할 수 있고, 제2 연결 유닛은, 한 쌍의 보호 회로 모듈 중 어느 하나에 제2 연결 라인을 통하여 연결되는 제2 플러그; 및 한 쌍의 보호 회로 모듈 중 다른 하나에 구비되어 제2 플러그가 끼워지는 제2 소켓을 포함할 수 있다.
본 발명의 실시예에 따른 배터리 모듈은, 보호 회로 모듈에 일체로 결합되는 열 차단 소자를 더 포함할 수 있다.
배터리 셀은 열 차단 소자를 통해 보호 회로 모듈에 연결될 수 있다.
배터리 셀은, 복수의 전극판을 분리막을 사이에 두고 적층하여 구성되는 전극 조립체; 및 전극 조립체를 감싸는 파우치를 포함할 수 있다.
도 1은 본 발명의 제1 실시예에 따른 배터리 모듈이 개략적으로 도시된 도면이다.
도 2는 본 발명의 제1 실시예에 따른 배터리 모듈에 구비되는 보호 회로 모듈 및 배터리 관리 유닛이 개략적으로 도시된 사시도이다.
도 3은 본 발명의 제2 실시예에 따른 배터리 모듈이 개략적으로 도시된 도면이다.
이하, 첨부된 도면을 참조하여, 본 발명의 실시예에 따른 배터리 모듈에 대하여 설명한다.
도 1 및 도 2에 도시된 바와 같이, 본 발명의 제1 실시예에 따른 배터리 모듈은, 한 쌍의 전극 단자(110)를 갖는 배터리 셀(100)과, 배터리 셀(100)과 연결되는 보호 회로 모듈(200)과, 보호 회로 모듈(200)과 연결되는 배터리 관리 유닛(300)과, 보호 회로 모듈(200) 및 배터리 관리 유닛(300)을 탈착 가능하게 연결하는 연결 유닛(400)을 포함할 수 있다.
배터리 셀(100)은, 복수의 전극판을 분리막을 사이에 두고 적층하고, 복수의 전극판에 복수의 전극 탭을 각각 용접하여 전극 조립체를 형성한 후, 전극 조립체를 알루미늄 파우치로 감싸 밀봉하는 공정을 통해 제조된다.
보호 회로 모듈(200)은 배터리 셀(100)의 전극 단자(110)과 전기적으로 연결되어 배터리 셀(100)의 과충전, 과방전 및/또는 과전류로 인한 배터리 셀(100)의 과열 및 폭발을 방지하는 역할을 한다. 보호 회로 모듈(200)은 인쇄 회로 기판일 수 있다. 보호 회로 모듈(200)은 배터리 셀(100)에 일체로 결합될 수 있다. 예를 들면, 보호 회로 모듈(200)은 스폿 용접에 의해 배터리 셀(100)에 일체로 결합될 수 있다.
보호 회로 모듈(200)은 복수의 배터리 셀(100)에 공통으로 적용 가능하도록, 보호 회로 모듈(200)의 단자가 배터리 셀(100)의 전극 단자(110)의 위치에 대응하도록 설계될 수 있다.
배터리 셀(100)은 열 차단 소자(500)을 통하여 보호 회로 모듈(200)에 연결될 수 있다. 보호 회로 모듈(200)은 열 차단 소자(500)와 일체로 구성될 수 있다. 열 차단 소자(500)는 온도 퓨즈로서 구성되어 보호 회로 모듈(200)에 용접에 의해 결합될 수 있다. 열 차단 소자(500)는 배터리 셀(100)의 과열 시 적정 온도가 감지되면 신호를 송출하여 배터리 셀(100)의 과열로 인한 안전 사고를 방지한다.
배터리 관리 유닛(300)은 배터리 셀(100)의 충전 및 방전을 제어하는 역할을 한다. 배터리 관리 유닛(300)은 인쇄 회로 기판일 수 있다. 배터리 관리 유닛(300)은 보호 회로 모듈(200)을 통해 배터리 셀(100)과 연결될 수 있다.
연결 유닛(400)은 용접에 의하지 않고 보호 회로 모듈(200) 및 배터리 관리 유닛(300)을 탈착 가능하게 연결하는 역할을 한다. 연결 유닛(400)은, 보호 회로 모듈(200)에 연결 라인(413)을 통하여 연결되는 플러그(411)와, 배터리 관리 유닛(300)에 구비되며 플러그(411)가 분리 가능하게 끼워지도록 구성되는 소켓(412)을 포함할 수 있다.
연결 라인(413)은 플러그(411)를 보호 회로 모듈(200)에 연결하는 연결 와이어로 구성될 수 있다.
플러그(411) 및 소켓(412)은 암수 연결 방식에 의해 서로 연결될 수 있다. 플러그(411) 및 소켓(412)의 내부에는 복수의 전극이 구비될 수 있으며, 플러그(411)가 소켓(412)에 삽입될 때 복수의 전극이 서로 전기적으로 연결될 수 있다.
플러그(411)가 소켓(412)에 끼워지는 것에 의해, 보호 회로 모듈(200) 및 배터리 관리 유닛(300)이 서로 전기적이고 기계적으로 연결될 수 있다.
한편, 본 발명의 제1 실시예에서는, 플러그(411)가 보호 회로 모듈(200)에 연결되고 소켓(412)이 배터리 관리 유닛(300)에 구비되는 구성에 대하여 제시되지만, 본 발명은 이에 한정되지 않으며, 플러그(411)가 배터리 관리 유닛(300)에 연결될 수 있고, 소켓(412)이 보호 회로 모듈(200)에 구비될 수 있다.
본 발명의 제1 실시예에 따른 배터리 모듈에 따르면, 플러그(411)가 소켓(412)에 끼워지는 것에 의해, 보호 회로 모듈(200) 및 배터리 관리 유닛(300)이 서로 전기적이고 기계적으로 연결될 수 있다. 따라서, 보호 회로 모듈(200) 및 배터리 관리 유닛(300)이 용접이 아닌 방식으로 서로 연결되므로, 배터리 모듈의 조립 공정을 용이하게 수행할 수 있다. 또한, 배터리 모듈의 조립 과정에서 불량이 발생한 경우, 불량이 발생한 배터리 셀(100)의 보호 회로 모듈(200)에 연결된 플러그(411)를 배터리 관리 유닛(300)의 소켓(412)으로부터 간단히 분리한 후, 해당 배터리 셀(100)을 교체할 수 있으므로, 배터리 모듈 전체를 폐기하여야 하는 경우에 비하여, 부품의 손실을 방지할 수 있다.
또한, 보호 회로 모듈(200)에 용접 공정에 요구되는 용접 패드를 구비할 필요가 없다. 따라서, 용접 패드가 차지하는 부분의 크기만큼 배터리 모듈의 크기를 줄일 수 있다.
이하, 도 3을 참조하여, 본 발명의 제2 실시예에 따른 배터리 모듈에 대하여 설명한다. 본 발명의 제1 실시예에서 설명한 구성 요소와 동일한 구성 요소에 대해서는 동일한 부호를 부여하고, 이에 대한 상세한 설명은 생략한다.
도 3에 도시된 바와 같이, 본 발명의 제2 실시예에 따른 배터리 모듈은, 하나의 배터리 관리 유닛(300)에 복수의 배터리 셀(100)이 연결된다.
그리고, 복수의 배터리 셀(100)에는 복수의 보호 회로 모듈(200)이 각각 연결된다. 보호 회로 모듈(200)은 배터리 셀(100)과 전기적으로 연결되어 배터리 셀(100)의 과충전, 과방전 및/또는 과전류로 인한 배터리 셀(100)의 과열 및 폭발을 방지하는 역할을 한다. 보호 회로 모듈(200)은 배터리 셀(100)에 일체로 결합될 수 있다. 예를 들면, 보호 회로 모듈(200)은 스폿 용접에 의해 배터리 셀(100)에 일체로 결합될 수 있다.
배터리 관리 유닛(300)은 배터리 셀(100)의 충전 및 방전을 제어하는 역할을 한다. 배터리 관리 유닛(300)은 보호 회로 모듈(200)을 통해 배터리 셀(100)과 연결될 수 있다.
본 발명의 제2 실시예에 따른 배터리 모듈은, 복수의 보호 회로 모듈(200) 및 배터리 관리 유닛(300)을 탈착 가능하게 연결하며, 복수의 보호 회로 모듈(200)을 상호 연결하는 복수의 연결 유닛(400)을 포함할 수 있다.
복수의 연결 유닛(400)은, 보호 회로 모듈(200) 및 배터리 관리 유닛(300)을 연결하는 제1 연결 유닛(410)과, 복수의 보호 회로 모듈(200) 중 한 쌍의 보호 회로 모듈(200)을 서로 연결하는 제2 연결 유닛(420)을 포함한다.
제1 연결 유닛(410)은 용접에 의하지 않고 보호 회로 모듈(200) 및 배터리 관리 유닛(300)을 탈착 가능하게 연결하는 역할을 한다. 제1 연결 유닛(410)은, 보호 회로 모듈(200)에 제1 연결 라인(413)을 통하여 연결되는 제1 플러그(411)와, 배터리 관리 유닛(300)에 구비되며 제1 플러그(411)가 분리 가능하게 끼워지도록 구성되는 제1 소켓(412)을 포함할 수 있다. 제1 연결 라인(413)은 제1 플러그(411)를 보호 회로 모듈(200)에 연결하는 연결 와이어로 구성될 수 있다. 플러그(411)가 제1 소켓(412)에 끼워지는 것에 의해, 보호 회로 모듈(200) 및 배터리 관리 유닛(300)이 서로 전기적이고 기계적으로 연결될 수 있다.
한편, 본 발명의 제2 실시예에서는, 제1 플러그(411)가 보호 회로 모듈(200)에 연결되고 제1 소켓(412)이 배터리 관리 유닛(300)에 구비되는 구성에 대하여 제시되지만, 본 발명은 이에 한정되지 않으며, 제1 플러그(411)가 배터리 관리 유닛(300)에 연결될 수 있고, 제1 소켓(412)이 보호 회로 모듈(200)에 구비될 수 있다.
제2 연결 유닛(420)은 용접에 의하지 않고 복수의 보호 회로 모듈(200)을 탈착 가능하게 연결하는 역할을 한다. 제2 연결 유닛(420)은, 한 쌍의 보호 회로 모듈(200) 중 어느 하나의 보호 회로 모듈(200)에 제2 연결 라인(423)을 통하여 연결되는 제2 플러그(421)와, 한 쌍의 보호 회로 모듈(200) 중 다른 하나의 보호 회로 모듈(200)에 구비되며 제2 플러그(421)가 분리 가능하게 끼워지도록 구성되는 제2 소켓(422)을 포함할 수 있다. 제2 연결 라인(423)은 제2 플러그(421)를 보호 회로 모듈(200)에 연결하는 연결 와이어로 구성될 수 있다. 제2 플러그(421)가 제2 소켓(422)에 끼워지는 것에 의해, 한 쌍의 보호 회로 모듈(200)이 서로 전기적이고 기계적으로 연결될 수 있다.
본 발명의 제2 실시예에 따른 배터리 모듈에 따르면, 제1 플러그(411)가 제1 소켓(412)에 끼워지는 것에 의해, 보호 회로 모듈(200) 및 배터리 관리 유닛(300)이 서로 전기적이고 기계적으로 연결될 수 있다. 따라서, 보호 회로 모듈(200) 및 배터리 관리 유닛(300)이 용접이 아닌 방식으로 서로 연결되므로, 배터리 모듈의 조립 공정을 용이하게 수행할 수 있다.
또한, 본 발명의 제2 실시예에 따른 배터리 모듈에 따르면, 제2 플러그(421)가 제2 소켓(422)에 끼워지는 것에 의해, 복수의 보호 회로 모듈(200)이 서로 전기적이고 기계적으로 연결될 수 있다. 따라서, 복수의 보호 회로 모듈(200)이 용접이 아닌 방식으로 서로 연결되므로, 배터리 모듈의 조립 공정을 용이하게 수행할 수 있다. 또한, 제2 플러그(421)를 제2 소켓(422)에 끼우거나 제2 플러그(421)를 제2 소켓(422)으로부터 분리하는 것에 의해, 복수의 보호 회로 모듈(200)이 서로 용이하게 연결되거나 연결 해제될 수 있으므로, 복수의 배터리 셀(100) 사이의 직렬 연결 및 병렬 연결을 용이하게 변경할 수 있다.
본 발명의 바람직한 실시예가 예시적으로 설명되었으나, 본 발명의 범위는 이와 같은 특정 실시예에 한정되지 않으며, 청구범위에 기재된 범주 내에서 적절하게 변경될 수 있다.

본 발명의 실시예에 따른 배터리 모듈에 따르면, 제1 플러그가 제1 소켓에 끼워지는 것에 의해, 보호 회로 모듈 및 배터리 관리 유닛이 서로 전기적이고 기계적으로 연결될 수 있다. 따라서, 보호 회로 모듈 및 배터리 관리 유닛이 용접이 아닌 방식으로 서로 연결되므로, 배터리 모듈의 조립 공정을 용이하게 수행할 수 있다.
본 발명의 실시예에 따른 배터리 모듈에 따르면, 제2 플러그가 제2 소켓에 끼워지는 것에 의해, 복수의 보호 회로 모듈이 서로 전기적이고 기계적으로 연결될 수 있다. 따라서, 복수의 보호 회로 모듈이 용접이 아닌 방식으로 서로 연결되므로, 배터리 모듈의 조립 공정을 용이하게 수행할 수 있다. 또한, 제2 플러그를 제2 소켓에 끼우거나 제2 플러그를 제2 소켓으로부터 분리하는 것에 의해, 복수의 보호 회로 모듈이 서로 용이하게 연결되거나 연결 해제될 수 있으므로, 복수의 배터리 셀 사이의 직렬 연결 및 병렬 연결을 용이하게 변경할 수 있다.
Claims (10)
- 배터리 셀;상기 배터리 셀에 일체로 결합되며 열 차단 소자를 일체로 구비하는 보호 회로 모듈;상기 보호 회로 모듈과 연결되는 배터리 관리 유닛; 및상기 보호 회로 모듈 및 상기 배터리 관리 유닛을 탈착 가능하게 연결하는 연결 유닛을 포함하는 배터리 모듈.
- 청구항 1에 있어서,상기 연결 유닛은,상기 보호 회로 모듈 및 상기 배터리 관리 유닛 중 어느 하나에 연결되는 플러그; 및상기 보호 회로 모듈 및 상기 배터리 관리 유닛 중 다른 하나에 구비되어 상기 플러그가 분리 가능하게 끼워지는 소켓을 포함하는 것을 특징으로 하는 배터리 모듈.
- 청구항 2에 있어서,상기 플러그 또는 상기 소켓은 연결 와이어를 통하여 상기 보호 회로 모듈 또는 상기 배터리 관리 유닛에 연결되는 것을 특징으로 하는 배터리 모듈.
- 청구항 1에 있어서,상기 배터리 셀은 상기 열 차단 소자를 통해 상기 보호 회로 모듈에 연결되는 것을 특징으로 하는 배터리 모듈.
- 복수의 배터리 셀;상기 복수의 배터리 셀에 각각 연결되는 복수의 보호 회로 모듈;상기 복수의 보호 회로 모듈과 연결되는 배터리 관리 유닛; 및상기 복수의 보호 회로 모듈 및 상기 배터리 관리 유닛을 탈착 가능하게 연결하며, 상기 복수의 보호 회로 모듈을 상호 연결하는 복수의 연결 유닛을 포함하는 배터리 모듈.
- 청구항 5에 있어서,상기 복수의 연결 유닛은,상기 보호 회로 모듈 및 상기 배터리 관리 유닛을 연결하는 제1 연결 유닛; 및상기 복수의 보호 회로 모듈 중 한 쌍의 보호 회로 모듈을 상호 연결하는 제2 연결 유닛을 포함하고,상기 제1 연결 유닛은,상기 보호 회로 모듈 및 상기 배터리 관리 유닛 중 어느 하나에 제1 연결 라인을 통하여 연결되는 제1 플러그; 및상기 보호 회로 모듈 및 상기 배터리 관리 유닛 중 다른 하나에 구비되어 상기 제1 플러그가 끼워지는 제1 소켓을 포함하고,상기 제2 연결 유닛은,상기 한 쌍의 보호 회로 모듈 중 어느 하나에 제2 연결 라인을 통하여 연결되는 제2 플러그; 및상기 한 쌍의 보호 회로 모듈 중 다른 하나에 구비되어 상기 제2 플러그가 끼워지는 제2 소켓을 포함하는 것을 특징으로 하는 배터리 모듈.
- 청구항 5에 있어서,상기 보호 회로 모듈에 일체로 결합되는 열 차단 소자를 더 포함하는 배터리 모듈.
- 청구항 7에 있어서,상기 배터리 셀은 상기 열 차단 소자를 통해 상기 보호 회로 모듈에 연결되는 것을 특징으로 하는 배터리 모듈.
- 청구항 5에 있어서,상기 배터리 셀은,복수의 전극판을 분리막을 사이에 두고 적층하여 구성되는 전극 조립체; 및상기 전극 조립체를 감싸는 파우치를 포함하는 것을 특징으로 하는 배터리 모듈.
- 청구항 1 내지 9 중 어느 한 항에 따른 배터리 모듈을 포함하는 배터리 팩.
