본 명세서는 유기 발광 소자에 관한 것이다.
Description
본 발명은 2018년 09월 20일 한국 특허청에 제출된 한국 특허 제 10-2018-0112919호의 출원일의 이익을 주장하며, 그 내용 전부는 본 명세서에 포함된다.
본 명세서는 유기 발광 소자에 관한 것이다.
일반적으로 유기 발광 현상이란 유기 물질을 이용하여 전기에너지를 빛에너지로 전환시켜주는 현상을 말한다. 유기 발광 현상을 이용하는 유기 발광 소자는 통상 양극과 음극 및 이 사이에 유기물층을 포함하는 구조를 가진다. 여기서 유기물층은 유기 발광 소자의 효율과 안정성을 높이기 위하여 각기 다른 물질로 구성된 다층의 구조로 이루어진 경우가 많으며, 예컨대 정공주입층, 정공수송층, 발광층, 전자수송층, 전자주입층 등으로 이루어 질 수 있다. 이러한 유기 발광 소자의 구조에서 두 전극 사이에 전압을 걸어주게 되면 양극에서는 정공이, 음극에서는 전자가 유기물층에 주입되게 되고, 주입된 정공과 전자가 만났을 때 엑시톤(exciton)이 형성되며, 이 엑시톤이 다시 바닥상태로 떨어질 때 빛이 나게 된다.
상기와 같은 유기 발광 소자를 위한 새로운 재료의 개발이 계속 요구되고 있다.
본 명세서는 유기 발광 소자를 제공한다.
제1 전극; 상기 제1 전극에 대향하여 구비된 제2 전극; 및 상기 제1 전극과 제2 전극 사이에 구비된 2층 이상의 발광층들을 포함하고, 상기 발광층들은
i) 500nm 미만,
ii) 500nm 내지 600nm, 및
iii) 600nm 초과
의 상기 각 파장 영역에서 하나의 피크를 가지고,
상기 i) 파장 영역의 최대 발광 피크의 발광 강도를 P1, 상기 ii) 파장 영역의 최대 발광 피크의 발광 강도를 P2, 상기 iii) 파장 영역의 최대 발광 파장의 발광 강도를 P3이라 할 때,
P1 ≥ P2 + P3을 만족하며,
상기 발광층들 중 적어도 하나 이상은 하기 화학식 1의 화합물을 포함하는 것인 유기 발광 소자를 제공한다.

본 명세서의 일 실시상태에 따른 유기발광 소자는 고색재현율, 장수명의 장점이 있다.
본 발명은 안정성이 높은 상기 화학식 1의 구조를 청색 발광층의 호스트로 이용함으로써 도펀트의 농도를 다양하게 조절하여도 장수명을 나타날 수 있는 소자를 구현하였다. 이를 바탕으로 발광 스펙트럼을 조정하여 고색재현율을 보이면서도 장수명의 특성을 나타내는 백색 유기 전계 발광 소자를 구현할 수 있다.

이하, 본 명세서에 대하여 더욱 상세하게 설명한다.
본 명세서는 상기 제1 전극; 상기 제1 전극에 대향하여 구비된 제2 전극; 및 상기 제1 전극과 제2 전극 사이에 구비된 2층 이상의 발광층들을 포함하는 유기 발광 소자로서, 상기 발광층들은 특정한 발광강도 조건을 만족하는 것인 유기 발광 소자를 제공한다.
유기소자에서 복수의 발광층을 포함하는 경우, 각 발광층의 발광강도를 조절하여 높은 색재현율의 효과를 얻을 수 있다.
이는 각 발광층의 발광 강도를 조절하여 각 발광층의 색좌표를 조절할 수 있고 각각의 색좌표를 통해 색 면적비를 구할 수 있는데 이 수치가 커질 경우 보다 다양한 색을 구현할 수 있다.
특히, 본 발명과 같이 각 발광층의 발광 강도를 P1≥P2 + P3의 조건을 만족시킬 경우, 더욱 높은 색 재현율을 얻을 수 있다. 이 조건을 만족시키기 위해 반드시 3층 이상의 발광층을 가져야하는 것은 아니며, 2층의 발광층을 가지고 있을 경우에는 하나의 층이 상기 i), ii), iii) 중 어느 2개 이상의 파장영역에서 최대 발광 피크를 가진다. 유기 발광 소자가 3층 이상의 발광층을 포함할 경우에는 각 층이 청색, 녹색, 적색 영역에서 각각 최대 발광 피크를 가질 수 있고, 어느 한 층이 2개 이상의 영역에서 최대 발광 피크를 가질 수도 있다.
본 명세서에 있어서, 어떤 부분이 어떤 구성요소를 "포함" 한다고 할 때, 이는 특별히 반대되는 기재가 없는 한 다른 구성요소를 제외하는 것이 아니라 다른 구성 요소를 더 포함할 수 있는 것을 의미한다.
본 명세서에 있어서, 어떤 부재가 다른 부재 "상에" 위치하고 있다고 할 때, 이는 어떤 부재가 다른 부재에 접해 있는 경우뿐 아니라 두 부재 사이에 또 다른 부재가 존재하는 경우도 포함한다.

상기 정공수송층은 정공주입층으로부터 정공을 수취하여 발광층까지 정공을 수송하는 층으로, 정공 수송 물질로는 양극이나 정공주입층으로부터 정공을 수송받아 발광층으로 옮겨줄 수 있는 물질로 정공에 대한 이동성이 큰 물질이 적합하다. 구체적인 예로는 아릴아민 계열의 유기물, 전도성 고분자, 및 공액 부분과 비공액 부분이 함께 있는 블록 공중합체 등이 있으나, 이들에만 한정되는 것은 아니다.

상기 발광층은 호스트 재료 및 도펀트 재료를 포함할 수 있다. 상기 도펀트 재료로는 방향족 아민 유도체, 스티릴아민 화합물, 붕소 착체, 플루오란텐 화합물, 금속 착체 등이 있다. 구체적으로 방향족 아민 유도체로는 치환 또는 비치환된 아릴아민기를 갖는 축합 방향족환 유도체로서, 아릴아민기를 갖는 피렌, 안트라센, 크리센, 페리플란텐 등이 있으며, 스티릴아민 화합물로는 치환 또는 비치환된 아릴아민에 적어도 1개의 아릴비닐기가 치환되어 있는 화합물로, 아릴기, 실릴기, 알킬기, 시클로알킬기 및 아릴아민기로 이루어진 군에서 1 또는 2 이상 선택되는 치환기가 치환 또는 비치환된다. 구체적으로 스티릴아민, 스티릴디아민, 스티릴트리아민, 스티릴테트라아민 등이 있으나, 이에 한정되지 않는다. 또한, 금속 착체로는 이리듐 착체, 백금 착체 등이 있으나, 이에 한정되지 않는다.
상기 전자수송층은 전자주입층으로부터 전자를 수취하여 발광층까지 전자를 수송하는 층으로, 전자 수송 물질로는 음극으로부터 전자를 잘 주입 받아 발광층으로 옮겨줄 수 있는 물질로서, 전자에 대한 이동성이 큰 물질이 적합하다. 구체적인 예로는 8-히드록시퀴놀린의 Al착물; Alq3를 포함한 착물; 유기 라디칼 화합물; 히드록시플라본-금속 착물 등이 있으나, 이들에만 한정되는 것은 아니다. 전자 수송층은 종래기술에 따라 사용된 바와 같이 임의의 원하는 캐소드 물질과 함께 사용할 수 있다. 특히, 적절한 캐소드 물질의 예는 낮은 일함수를 가지고 알루미늄층 또는 실버층이 뒤따르는 통상적인 물질이다. 구체적으로 세슘, 바륨, 칼슘, 이테르븀 및 사마륨이고, 각 경우 알루미늄층 또는 실버층이 뒤따른다.
상기 전자주입층은 전극으로부터 전자를 주입하는 층으로, 전자를 수송하는 능력을 갖고, 음극으로부터의 전자주입 효과, 발광층 또는 발광 재료에 대하여 우수한 전자주입 효과를 가지며, 발광층에서 생성된 여기자의 정공 주입층에의 이동을 방지하고, 또한, 박막형성능력이 우수한 화합물이 바람직하다. 구체적으로는 플루오레논, 안트라퀴노다이메탄, 다이페노퀴논, 티오피란 다이옥사이드, 옥사졸, 옥사다이아졸, 트리아졸, 이미다졸, 페릴렌테트라카복실산, 프레오레닐리덴 메탄, 안트론 등과 그들의 유도체, 금속 착체 화합물 및 함질소 5원환 유도체 등이 있으나, 이에 한정되지 않는다.
상기 정공차단층은 정공의 음극 도달을 저지하는 층으로, 일반적으로 정공주입층과 동일한 조건으로 형성될 수 있다. 구체적으로 옥사디아졸 유도체나 트리아졸 유도체, 페난트롤린 유도체, BCP, 알루미늄 착물 (aluminum complex) 등이 있으나, 이에 한정되지 않는다.
상기 금속 착체 화합물로서는 8-하이드록시퀴놀리나토 리튬, 비스(8-하이드록시퀴놀리나토)아연, 비스(8-하이드록시퀴놀리나토)구리, 비스(8-하이드록시퀴놀리나토)망간, 트리스(8-하이드록시퀴놀리나토)알루미늄, 트리스(2-메틸-8-하이드록시퀴놀리나토)알루미늄, 트리스(8-하이드록시퀴놀리나토)갈륨, 비스(10-하이드록시벤조[h]퀴놀리나토)베릴륨, 비스(10-하이드록시벤조[h]퀴놀리나토)아연, 비스(2-메틸-8-퀴놀리나토)클로로갈륨, 비스(2-메틸-8-퀴놀리나토)(o-크레졸라토)갈륨, 비스(2-메틸-8-퀴놀리나토)(1-나프톨라토)알루미늄, 비스(2-메틸-8-퀴놀리나토)(2-나프톨라토)갈륨 등이 있으나, 이에 한정되지 않는다.
본 명세서에 따른 유기 발광 소자는 사용되는 재료에 따라 전면 발광형, 후면 발광형 또는 양면 발광형일 수 있다.
본 발명의 유기 발광 소자는 전술한 화합물을 이용하여 한 층 이상의 발광층을 형성하는 것을 제외하고는, 통상의 유기 발광 소자의 제조방법 및 재료에 의하여 제조될 수 있다.
상기 제조예에 있어, L 및 Ar는 상기 화학식 1에서 정의한 바와 같고, R, R', n1, n2은 각각 상기 화학식 1의 R1, R2, n 및 m의 정의와 같다.
하기 합성예는 통상의 기술자의 이해를 돕기 위한 것이며, 본 발명은 하기 내용으로 한정되지 않는다. 상기 제조예의 일반식과 하기 합성예를 참고하여, 치환기 및 치환 위치를 달리하면 본 발명의 화학식 1의 발명을 모두 제조할 수 있다.

]
합성예
1: BH-1의 합성
단계 1) 화합물 1-a의 합성
9-브로모안트라센 (20.0g, 77.8mmol), [1,1'-비페닐]-2-일보론산(16.9g, 85.6mmol)을 테트라하이드로퓨란(THF) 300ml에 녹이고 여기에 K2CO3
(43.0g, 311.1mmol)을 H2O 150ml에 녹여 넣었다. 여기에 Pd(PPh3)4
(3.6g, 3.1mmol)를 넣고, 아르곤 분위기 환류 조건하에서 8시간 동안 교반하였다. 반응이 종료되면 상온으로 냉각한 후, 반응액을 분액 깔대기에 옮기고, 물과 에틸 아세테이트로 추출하였다. 추출액을 MgSO4로 건조 후, 여과 및 농축한 후, 시료를 실리카 겔 컬럼 크로마토그래피로 정제하여 화합물 1-a를 19.3g 수득하였다. (수율 75%, MS[M+H]+= 330)
단계 2) 화합물 1-b의 합성
화합물 1-a (15.0g, 45.4mmol), NBS (8.5g, 47.7mmol), DMF 300ml를 넣고, 아르곤 분위기 하에서 상온에서 8시간 교반하였다. 반응 종료 후, 반응액을 분액 깔대기에 옮기고, 물과 에틸 아세테이트로 유기층을 추출하였다. 추출액을 MgSO4로 건조하고, 여과 및 농축한 후, 시료를 실리카 겔 컬럼 크로마토그래피로 정제하여 화합물 1-b를 16.9g 수득하였다. (수율 91%, MS[M+H]+= 409)
단계 3) BH-1의 합성
화합물 1-b (15.0g, 36.6mmol), 디벤조[b,d]퓨란-1-일보론산(8.5g, 40.3mmol)을 테트라하이드로퓨란(THF) 225ml에 녹이고 여기에 K2CO3
(20.3g, 146.6mmol)을 H2O 113ml에 녹여 넣었다. 여기에 Pd(PPh3)4
(1.7g, 1.5mmol)를 넣고, 아르곤 분위기 환류 조건하에서 8시간 동안 교반하였다. 반응이 종료되면 상온으로 냉각한 후, 반응액을 분액 깔대기에 옮기고, 물과 에틸 아세테이트로 추출하였다. 추출액을 MgSO4로 건조 후, 여과 및 농축한 후, 시료를 실리카 겔 컬럼 크로마토그래피로 정제한 후, 승화정제를 통해 BH-1 5.8g을 수득하였다. (수율 32%, MS[M+H]+= 496)
합성예
2: BH-2의 합성
합성예 1에서, [1,1'-비페닐]-2-일 보론산을 페닐보론산으로, 디벤조[b,d]퓨란-1-일 보론산을 디벤조[b,d]퓨란-2-일 보론산으로 변경하여 사용한 것을 제외하고는, BH-1의 제조 방법과 동일한 제조 방법으로 BH-2를 제조하였다. (MS[M+H]+= 496)

비교예
1-1>
ITO(indium tin oxide)가 1,000Å의 두께로 박막 코팅된 유리 기판을 세제를 녹인 증류수에 넣고 초음파로 세척하였다. 이 때, 세제로는 피셔사(Fischer Co.) 제품을 사용하였으며, 증류수로는 밀러포어사(Millipore Co.) 제품의 필터(Filter)로 2차로 걸러진 증류수를 사용하였다. ITO를 30분간 세척한 후 증류수로 2회 반복하여 초음파 세척을 10분간 진행하였다. 증류수 세척이 끝난 후, 이소프로필알콜, 아세톤, 메탄올의 용제로 초음파 세척을 하고 건조시킨 후 플라즈마 세정기로 수송시켰다. 또한, 산소 플라즈마를 이용하여 상기 기판을 5분간 세정한 후 진공 증착기로 기판을 수송시켰다.
이렇게 준비된 ITO 투명 전극 위에 하기와 같은 순서로 재료를 열진공 증착하여 도 2와 같은 구조의 백색 유기 발광 소자를 제작하였다. 각 층을 제조하는데 사용된 화합물 및 각 층의 두께는 아래와 같다. 괄호 앞은 사용된 화합물을 기재한 것이고, 괄호 안은 각 층의 두께를 기재한 것이다.
ITO (1400Å) / HAT-CN (50Å) / HTL1 (1000Å) / EBL1 (100Å) / BH-1:BD (99:1질량비, 200Å) / ETL1 (100Å) / NCGL1:Li (99:1 질량비, 185Å) / HAT-CN (50Å) / HTL2 (150Å) / HTL2:RH:RD (48.5:48.5:3 질량비, 150Å) / GH1:GH2:GD (42.5:42.5:15 질량비, 350Å) / ETL2 (240Å) / NCGL2:Li (98:2 질량비, 200Å) / HAT-CN (50Å) / HTL3 (650Å) / EBL2 (100Å) / BH-1:BD (99:1질량비, 250Å) / ETL3 (280Å) / LiF (10Å) / Al (1500Å)
상기의 과정에서 유기물의 증착속도는 0.4~ 0.7Å/sec를 유지하였고, 음극의 리튬플로라이드는 0.3Å/sec, 알루미늄은 2Å/sec의 증착 속도를 유지하였으며, 증착시 진공도는 2X10-7 내지 5X10-6 torr를 유지하였다.

상기 비교예 1-1에서 제1 청색 발광층과 제2 청색 발광층의 재료(BH-1, BD)를 표 1에 기재한 바와 같이 변경하여 사용한 것을 제외하고는 비교예 1-1과 동일한 방법으로 유기 발광 소자를 제작하였다. 이렇게 제작된 유기 발광 소자에 10mA/cm2의 전류 밀도를 인가하였을 때의 소자의 특성을 나타내었다. P1 내지 P3는 청구항 1항에서 정의한 바와 같다. 색좌표는 백색광에 각각의 서브 화소별 컬러필터를 적용하였을 때 나타나는 색좌표를 나타내었다. BT2020 면적비는 국제 방송 표준단체인 ITU에서 권고한 4K/UHD의 규격으로 BT2020 규격의 면적비의 수치가 커지는 것은 대면적 및 고해상도 디스플레이에서 보다 더 다양한 색을 구현할 수 있음을 의미한다. 또한, T95 수명은 전류 밀도 10 mA/cm2에서 초기 휘도가 95%로 저하할 때까지의 시간을 각각 측정하여 얻은 결과로 비교예 3-1의 결과를 기준으로 상대화하여 나타내었다.

색재현율을 계산하는데 이용되는 색좌표의 경우, 각 화소별 컬러필터를 적용한 후 측정하게 된다. 이 때, 컬러필터도 필터링할 수 있는 파장 영역에 한계가 있기 때문에 필터링 효율을 극대화 하기 위해서는 각 파장의 빛이 좁은 반치폭을 갖거나, 영역별 상대적 세기의 비율을 조정하여 다른 파장 영역의 영향을 최소화 해야한다. 실시예에서 알 수 있듯이 청색 발광층에 사용된 화합물이 바뀜에 따라 청색 색좌표 영역뿐만 아니라 녹색의 색좌표 영역에서 영향을 받음을 알 수 있다. 컬러필터를 통과하여 청색과 적색의 발광을 막고 측정한 것을 고려하였을 때, 이는 유의미한 수치 차이로 볼 수 있다.
또한, 청색 발광층 변화에 대해 적색 색좌표 변화는 전혀 없는 것과 달리 녹색 색좌표는 청색 색좌표의 변화와 비교해서 변화가 있음을 알 수 있다.
표 1에서 보는 바와 같이 P1 ≥ P2 + P3인 조건을 만족하도록 상대적 세기의 비율을 조정하였을 때, BT2020 기준의 면적비가 86% 이상을 보이며 높은 색재현율을 보임을 알 수 있다.
비교예 3-1 내지 비교예 3-4의 경우, 본 발명의 화합물이 아닌 화합물 BH-A를 사용하며, 도펀트 화합물의 비율을 달리하였다. 호스트와 도펀트의 비율에 따라, P1 값과 P2+P3이 달라지는 것을 알 수 있다.
도펀트의 비율이 상대적으로 낮은 비교예 3-1 및 비교예 3-2는 P1 ≥ P2 + P3의 조건을 만족시키지 못한다. 하지만, 비교예 3-2와 동일한 비율로 호스트와 도펀트를 포함하는 실시예 2-1은 P1 ≥ P2 + P3의 조건을 만족시킨다.
도펀트의 비율이 상대적으로 높은 비교예 3-3 및 비교예 3-4는 P1 ≥ P2 + P3의 조건을 만족시킨다. 하지만, 동일한 호스트: 도펀트 비율을 가지는 실시예 2-2 및 실시예 2-3과 비교하였을 때, 각 발광영역의 발광 강도 조건을 만족시키더라도, 화학식 1의 화합물을 사용하지 않는 비교예 3-3 및 3-4의 경우에는 수명이 현저히 저하되는 것을 확인할 수 있다.
각 발광층의 발광 강도를 P1 ≥ P2 + P3의 조건을 만족시킬 경우, 더욱 높은 색 재현율을 얻을 수 있음을 고려하였을 때, 화학식 1의 화합물을 사용한 실시예의 소자들은 높은 색재현율과 장수명의 특성을 가지는 것을 확인하였다.
Claims (9)
- 제1 전극; 상기 제1 전극에 대향하여 구비된 제2 전극; 및 상기 제1 전극과 제2 전극 사이에 구비된 2층 이상의 발광층들을 포함하고, 상기 발광층들은i) 500nm 미만,ii) 500nm 내지 600nm, 및iii) 600nm 초과의 상기 각 파장 영역에서 하나의 피크를 가지고,상기 i) 파장 영역의 최대 발광 피크의 발광 강도를 P1, 상기 ii) 파장 영역의 최대 발광 피크의 발광 강도를 P2, 상기 iii) 파장 영역의 최대 발광 파장의 발광 강도를 P3이라 할 때,P1 ≥ P2 + P3을 만족하며,상기 발광층들 중 적어도 하나는 하기 화학식 1의 화합물을 포함하는 것인 유기 발광 소자:[화학식 1]상기 화학식 1에 있어서,X는 O 또는 S이고,L은 직접결합, 또는 치환 또는 비치환된 아릴렌기이고,Ar은 치환 또는 비치환된 아릴기이고,R1 내지 R3은 서로 같거나 상이하고, 각각 독립적으로, 수소; 중수소; 할로겐기; 니트릴기; 니트로기; 치환 또는 비치환된 아민기; 치환 또는 비치환된 알킬기; 치환 또는 비치환된 시클로알킬기; 치환 또는 비치환된 알케닐기; 치환 또는 비치환된 아릴기; 또는 치환 또는 비치환된 N, O 및 S 중 어느 하나 이상을 헤테로아릴기이고,n은 0 내지 3의 정수이고,m은 0 내지 4의 정수이고,o는 0 내지 8의 정수이고,상기 n이 복수일 경우, 상기 R1은 서로 같거나 상이하고,상기 m이 복수일 경우, 상기 R2은 서로 같거나 상이하고,상기 o가 복수일 경우, 상기 R3은 서로 같거나 상이하다.
- 청구항 1에 있어서, 상기 발광층들 중 적어도 하나는 i) 파장 영역에서 최대 발광 피크를 가지는 것인 유기 발광 소자.
- 청구항 2에 있어서, 상기 i) 파장 영역에서 최대 발광 피크를 가지는 발광층은 상기 화학식 1의 화합물을 포함하는 것인 유기 발광 소자.
- 청구항 1에 있어서, 상기 발광층들 중 어느 하나 이상은 상기 화학식 1의 화합물을 청색 호스트로 사용하는 유기 발광 소자.
- 청구항 1에 있어서, 상기 발광층들 중 청색 발광층이 2 이상인 유기 발광 소자.
- 청구항 1에 있어서, 상기 발광층들은 호스트와 도펀트를 포함하고, 상기 발광층들 중 적어도 하나 이상은 호스트와 도펀트를 99:1 내지 80:20의 질량비로 포함되는 유기 발광 소자.
- 청구항 1에 있어서, 상기 유기발광소자는 정공수송층, 정공주입층, 또는 정공주입 및 수송층을 더 포함하는 것인 유기발광소자.
- 청구항 1에 있어서, 상기 유기발광소자는 전자주입층, 전자수송층, 또는 전자주입 및 수송 층을 더 포함하는 것인 유기발광소자.
