Abstract
本開示の一態様に係る非水電解質二次電池(10)は、開口部と底部とを有する筒状のケース本体(15)と、開口部にガスケット(27)を介してかしめ固定される封口体(16)と、ケース本体(15)に収容され、正極板(11)及び負極板(12)を有する巻回型の電極群(14)とを含む。電極群(14)の最外周面の巻回方向の少なくとも一部に、正極板(11)及び負極板(12)の一方の極板の金属箔からなる集電体が露出し、集電体がケース本体(15)の内側面に接触している。ケース本体(15)の内側面のうち開口部側端からガスケット(27)の底部側端の接触位置までの範囲を第1領域S1とし、ケース本体(15)の内側面のうち電極群(14)の最外周面に対向する範囲を第2領域S2としたときに、第1領域S1の算術平均粗さRa1と、第2領域S2の算術平均粗さRa2とが、Ra1<Ra2を満たす。
Description
本開示は、非水電解質二次電池に関する。
従来から、正極板と負極板とをセパレータを介して巻回した発電要素(電極群)と、発電要素を収容した金属ケース(ケース本体)とを備え、金属ケースにガスケットを介して封口板(封口体)で密閉した二次電池において、金属ケースの封口部の内面の凹凸を浅くし山数を少なくする構成が知られている(特許文献1参照)。この構成では、高粘度のシール剤を凹凸に入り込みやすくすることにより、電解液の耐漏液性が優れた電池を得ることができるとされている。
また、アルカリマンガン電池等を構成する電池用缶が、側壁主部と、側壁主部より開口側でガスケットが挿入されるかしめ部とを有する有底筒状であり、側壁主部よりかしめ部を滑らかにする構成が知られている(特許文献2参照)。この構成では、電池用缶と正極合剤との接触面積を大きくして接触抵抗を低減できるとともに、漏液の発生を防止できるとされている。
さらに、電極群の最外周面に金属箔からなる負極集電体を露出させ、電池ケースの内面に負極集電体を接触させることで、放熱性を向上できる二次電池も知られている(特許文献3参照)。
近年、電気自動車用の駆動電源や自然エネルギーを活用するための蓄電装置など、二次電池の用途が拡大しており、二次電池にはさらなる高容量及び高出力特性と、封止部の高い信頼性を実現することが要求されている。しかしながら、電池組立時にケース本体の開口部を封口する際に、ケース本体の内側へ突出するように開口部の近傍に形成された溝入れ部上に溜まった電解液が外部に浸み出したり、組立後もガスケットとケース本体との間に介在することで、錆が発生するなど、封止部の信頼性が低下する可能性がある。
また、特許文献3に記載された構成のように、電極群の最外周面に金属箔からなる負極集電体を露出させ、ケースの内面に負極集電体を接触させる二次電池では、接触状態が悪いと、電池抵抗が高くなることで、二次電池の高出力化の妨げとなる可能性がある。
本発明の目的は、電極群の最外周面に金属箔からなる負極集電体を露出させ、ケース本体の内側面に負極集電体を接触させる非水電解質二次電池において、高出力化とともに、封止部の高い信頼性を実現することである。
本開示に係る非水電解質二次電池は、開口部と底部とを有する筒状のケース本体と、ケース本体の開口部にガスケットを介してかしめ固定される封口体と、ケース本体に収容され、正極板及び負極板がセパレータを介して巻回された巻回型の電極群と、を備え、電極群の最外周面の巻回方向の少なくとも一部に、正極板及び負極板の一方の極板の金属箔からなる集電体が露出し、集電体がケース本体の内側面に接触しており、ケース本体の内側面のうち開口部側端からガスケットの底部側端の接触位置までの範囲を第1領域とし、ケース本体の内側面のうち電極群の最外周面に対向する範囲を第2領域としたときに、第1領域の算術平均粗さRa1と、第2領域の算術平均粗さRa2とが、Ra1<Ra2を満たす、非水電解質二次電池である。
本開示に係る非水電解質二次電池によれば、電極群の最外周面の極板の、金属箔からなる集電体がケース本体に接触する構成において、集電体とケース本体の第2領域との接触面積が大きくなることで接触抵抗を低くできるので、高出力化を実現できる。さらに、ケース本体の第1領域の濡れ性が低下して電解液がはじかれやすくなるので、電解液の浸み出しを防止できる。したがって、本開示に係る非水電解質二次電池によれば、高出力化とともに封止部の高い信頼性を実現できる。
以下に、本発明に係る実施の形態について添付図面を参照しながら詳細に説明する。以下の説明において、具体的な形状、材料、数値、方向等は、本発明の理解を容易にするための例示であって、非水電解質二次電池の仕様に合わせて適宜変更することができる。また、以下において「略」なる用語は、例えば、完全に同じである場合に加えて、実質的に同じとみなせる場合を含む意味で用いられる。さらに、以下において複数の実施形態、変形例が含まれる場合、それらの特徴部分を適宜に組み合わせて用いることは当初から想定されている。
図1は、実施形態の非水電解質二次電池10の断面図である。図2は、実施形態において、電極群の巻外側部分(外周面側部分)の軸方向に垂直な断面図である。図3は、電極群14が挿入される前のケース本体15の断面図である。つまり図3は、図1の肩部20や溝入れ部21が形成される前のケース本体15の断面図である。図1~図3に例示するように、非水電解質二次電池10は、巻回型の電極群14と、電解液である非水電解質(図示せず)と、ケース本体15及び封口体16とを備える。電極群14は、正極板11と、負極板12と、セパレータ13とを有し、正極板11と負極板12がセパレータ13を介して渦巻状に巻回されている。以下では、電極群14の巻回軸方向一方側を「上」、巻回軸方向他方側を「下」という場合がある。非水電解質は、非水溶媒と、非水溶媒に溶解した電解質塩とを含む。
図2を参照して、正極板11は、帯状の正極集電体31と、正極集電体31に接合された正極リード19(図1)とを有する。正極リード19は、正極集電体31と正極端子を電気的に接続するための導電部材であって、電極群14のうち、正極集電体31の上端から巻回軸方向αの一方側(上方)に延出している。正極リード19は、例えば電極群14の径方向βの略中央部に設けられている。正極リード19は、帯状の導電部材である。正極リードの構成材料は特に限定されない。正極リード19はアルミニウムを主成分とする金属によって構成されることが好ましい。さらに、正極板11は、正極集電体の巻内面(径方向内側面)及び巻外面(径方向外側面)のそれぞれに正極活物質層32,33が形成される。図2では、正極活物質層32,33を砂地で示している。
図2を参照して、負極板12は、帯状の金属箔からなる負極集電体35と、負極集電体35の巻内面(径方向内側面)及び巻外面(径方向外側面)のそれぞれに形成された負極活物質層36,37とを有する。図2では、負極活物質層36,37を斜線部で示している。負極板12では、電極群14の最外周面において、負極集電体35が、負極端子となる後述のケース本体15の筒部の内側面に接触して、ケース本体15に電気的に接続される。このために、電極群14の最外周面の周方向についての全部には、負極集電体35が露出し、負極集電体35がケース本体15に接触している。これにより、負極板12とケース本体15の間の集電性を確保できる。
電極群14は、上述の通り、正極板11と負極板12がセパレータ13を介して渦巻状に巻回されてなる巻回構造を有する。正極板11、負極板12、及びセパレータ13は、いずれも帯状に形成され、巻芯の周囲に渦巻状に巻回されることで電極群14の径方向βに交互に積層された状態となる。巻芯が取り除かれて電極群14には空間28が形成されており、空間28の長手方向に沿った中心軸が巻回軸29である。電極群14において、各極板の長手方向が巻回方向γ(図2)となり、各極板の幅方向が巻回軸方向α(図1)となる。電極群14の最外周面には、巻止めテープ(図示せず)の貼着によって、電極群14の巻き終わり端E(図2)が固定される。図2ではセパレータ13の図示を省略している。
ケース本体15は、封口体16とともに、電極群14及び非水電解質を収容する金属製の電池ケースを構成する。電極群14の上下には、絶縁板17,18がそれぞれ設けられる。正極リード19は上側の絶縁板17の貫通孔を通って封口体16側に延び、封口体16の底板であるフィルタ22の下面に溶接される。非水電解質二次電池10では、フィルタ22と電気的に接続された封口体16の天板であるキャップ26が正極端子となる。
ケース本体15は、開口部15aと底部15bとを有する筒状、例えば有底円筒形状の金属製容器である。ケース本体15の開口部15aには、ガスケット27を介して封口体16がかしめ固定されることにより、電池ケース内の密閉性が確保されている。ケース本体15は、開口端部を内周側に全周にわたってかしめることにより形成された肩部20と、溝入れ部21とを有する。溝入れ部21は、例えば側面部を外側からプレスして形成され、封口体16を支持する部分である。溝入れ部21は、ケース本体15の周方向に沿って環状に形成されることが好ましく、その上面で封口体16を支持する。封口体16は、ケース本体15の開口部を封口する。ケース本体15は、内側面の表面粗さが規制されている。これについては、後で詳しく説明する。
封口体16は、電極群14側から順に積層された、フィルタ22、下弁体23、絶縁部材24、上弁体25、及びキャップ26を有する。封口体16を構成する各部材は、例えば円板形状又はリング形状を有し、絶縁部材24を除く各部材は互いに電気的に接続されている。下弁体23と上弁体25とは各々の中央部で互いに接続され、各々の周縁部の間には絶縁部材24が介在している。異常発熱で電池の内圧が上昇すると、例えば下弁体23が破断し、上弁体25がキャップ26側に膨れて下弁体23から離れることにより両者の電気的接続が遮断される。さらに内圧が上昇すると、上弁体25が破断し、キャップ26の開口部26aからガスが排出される。
以下、電極群14を構成する正極板11及び負極板12を詳しく説明する。正極板11は、正極集電体31と、正極集電体31上に形成された正極活物質層32,33とを有する。本実施形態では、正極集電体31の両面に正極活物質層32,33が形成されている。正極集電体31には、例えばアルミニウムなどの金属の箔、当該金属を表層に配置したフィルム等が用いられる。好適な正極集電体31は、アルミニウム又はアルミニウム合金を主成分とする金属の箔である。正極集電体31の厚みは、例えば10μm~30μmである。
正極活物質層32,33は、正極活物質、導電剤、及び結着剤を含むことが好ましい。正極板11は、正極活物質、導電剤、結着剤、及びN-メチル-2-ピロリドン(NMP)等の溶剤を含む正極合剤スラリーを正極集電体31の両面に塗布した後、乾燥および圧延することにより作製される。
正極活物質としては、Co、Mn、Ni等の遷移金属元素を含有するリチウム含有遷移金属酸化物が例示できる。リチウム含有遷移金属酸化物は、特に限定されないが、一般式Li1+xMO2(式中、-0.2<x≦0.2、MはNi、Co、Mn、Alの少なくとも1種を含む)で表される複合酸化物であることが好ましい。
上記導電剤の例としては、カーボンブラック(CB)、アセチレンブラック(AB)、ケッチェンブラック、黒鉛等の炭素材料などが挙げられる。上記結着剤の例としては、ポリテトラフルオロエチレン(PTFE)、ポリフッ化ビニリデン(PVdF)等のフッ素系樹脂、ポリアクリロニトリル(PAN)、ポリイミド(PI)、アクリル系樹脂、ポリオレフィン系樹脂などが挙げられる。また、これらの樹脂と、カルボキシメチルセルロース(CMC)又はその塩、ポリエチレンオキシド(PEO)等が併用されてもよい。これらは、1種類を単独で用いてもよく、2種類以上を組み合わせて用いてもよい。
正極板11には、正極集電体31を構成する金属の表面が露出した無地部(図示せず)が設けられる。無地部は正極リード19が接続される部分であって、正極集電体31の表面が正極活物質層に覆われていない部分である。正極リード19は、例えば、超音波溶接によって無地部に接合される。
負極板12は、負極集電体35と、負極集電体35上に形成された負極活物質層36,37とを有する。本実施形態では、負極集電体35の両面に負極活物質層36,37が形成されている。さらに、負極板12は、巻き始め側の無地領域(図示せず)、両面活物質領域12a、片面活物質領域12b、巻き終わり側の無地領域12cが、巻き始めから巻き終わりに向かって順に続いている。両面活物質領域12aは、負極集電体35の両面に負極活物質層36,37が形成されている。片面活物質領域12bは、負極集電体35の巻内面のみに負極活物質層36が形成されている。無地領域は、負極集電体35の両面のいずれもが負極活物質層に覆われず露出している。片面活物質領域12bは、両面活物質領域12aの巻き終わり端より巻き終わり側に略1周分続いており、片面活物質領域12bのさらに巻き終わり側に無地領域12cが続いている。これにより、電極群14の最外周面の周方向についての全部には、片面活物質領域12bの一部と無地領域12cとにおける負極集電体35が露出している。負極集電体35は、例えば銅などの金属箔からなる。負極集電体35の厚みは、例えば5μm~30μmである。図2では、負極板12の無地領域12cが、無地領域12cの内側の片面活物質領域12bの巻外面から離れているように示しているが、実際には、無地領域12cの巻内面は、片面活物質領域12bの巻外面に接触している。
負極活物質層36,37は、負極活物質及び結着剤を含むことが好ましい。負極板12は、例えば負極活物質、結着剤、及び水等を含む負極合剤スラリーを負極集電体35の両面に塗布した後、乾燥および圧延することにより作製される。
負極活物質としては、リチウムイオンを可逆的に吸蔵、放出できるものであれば特に限定されず、例えば天然黒鉛、人造黒鉛等の炭素材料、Si、Sn等のリチウムと合金化する金属、又はこれらを含む合金、複合酸化物などを用いることができる。特に、充電時の膨張量が大きい負極活物質を用いることで負極集電体35とケース本体15の接触抵抗を低減できる。そのため、負極活物質がSi、Si合金、及びSi酸化物などのケイ素材料を含むことが好ましい。負極活物質層36,37に含まれる結着剤には、例えば正極板11の場合と同様の樹脂が用いられる。水系溶媒で負極合剤スラリーを調製する場合は、スチレン-ブタジエンゴム(SBR)、CMC又はその塩、ポリアクリル酸又はその塩、ポリビニルアルコール等を用いることができる。これらは、1種類を単独で用いてもよく、2種類以上を組み合わせて用いてもよい。
セパレータ13(図1)には、イオン透過性及び絶縁性を有する多孔性シートが用いられる。多孔性シートの具体例としては、微多孔薄膜、織布、不織布などが挙げられる。セパレータ13の材質としては、ポリエチレン、ポリプロピレン等のオレフィン樹脂が好ましい。セパレータ13の厚みは、例えば10μm~50μmである。セパレータ13は、電池の高容量化・高出力化に伴い薄膜化の傾向にある。セパレータ13は、例えば130℃~180℃程度の融点を有する。
そして、負極板12の負極集電体35が露出している電極群14の最外周面に、電極群14の巻き終わり端である負極板12の巻き終わり端E(図2)を固定するように、巻止めテープ(図示せず)が貼着されている。
ケース本体15は、次のように内側面の表面粗さが規制されている。図3は、肩部20及び溝入れ部21が形成される前のケース本体15の断面図である。ケース本体15の内側面の少なくとも一部が、長手方向(図1の巻回軸方向αに対応)において、第1領域S1と第2領域S2に割り当てられる。第1領域S1は、ケース本体15の内側面のうち開口部側端15cから、ガスケット27の底部側端27a(図1)と接触する位置までの範囲である。図3では、ケース本体15の内側面がガスケット27の底部側端27aと接触する位置をL1で示し、第1領域S1を矢印A1で示している。
第2領域S2は、ケース本体15の内側面のうち電極群14の最外周面である負極集電体35の最外周面に径方向に対向する範囲である。図3では、第2領域S2の長さ方向(図1の巻回軸方向αに対応)の両端に対応する位置をL2及びL3で示し、第2領域S2を矢印A2で示している。このとき、第1領域S1の算術平均粗さRa1と、第2領域S2の算術平均粗さRa2とが、Ra1<Ra2を満たすように規制される。
例えば、JIS B 0601-2001の規格での算術平均粗さにおいて、第1領域S1の算術平均粗さRa1が0.4μm未満であり、第2領域S2の算術平均粗さRa2が0.4μm以上、3μm以下である。
上記の非水電解質二次電池10によれば、ケース本体15の内側面の第1領域S1及び第2領域S2の算術平均粗さRa1,Ra2が、Ra1<Ra2を満たすように規制される。これにより、電極群14の最外周面の、負極板12の金属箔からなる負極集電体35がケース本体15に接触する構成で、負極集電体35とケース本体15の第2領域S2との電気的な接触抵抗を低くできる。一般に、2つの金属材料の面と面との接触での電気的な接触抵抗を低くするためには、金属材料の表面粗さを小さくして接触面積を増加させる必要があると考えられる。ところが、実施形態のように金属箔からなる負極集電体35は可撓性を有するため、ケース本体15の内側面の凹凸形状に沿って変形することが本開示の発明者によって見出された。したがって、第2領域S2の算術平均粗さRa2をRa1より大きくすることで、負極集電体35とケース本体15の第2領域S2との接触面積を大きくできる。これにより、負極集電体35とケース本体15の第2領域S2との電気的な接触抵抗を低くできるので、非水電解質二次電池10の高出力化を実現できる。
さらに、ケース本体15の第1領域S1の算術平均粗さRa1が小さくなることで、第1領域S1の濡れ性が低下して、電解液がはじかれやすくなる。これにより、ケース本体15の表面に付着した電解液がケース本体15の表面に沿って底部15b側に落ちやすくなり、かつ、電解液の開口側への這い上がりを防止できるので、電解液の浸み出しを防止できる。このため、第1領域S1にガスケット27が接触することにより構成される封止部の高い信頼性を実現できる。
図4は、実施形態の別例の非水電解質二次電池10aにおいて、下側半部の断面図である。非水電解質二次電池10aは、図1~図4の構成と同様に、ケース本体15の筒部の内側面には、電極群14の最外周面に露出している負極集電体が接触している。これとともに、負極集電体において、電極群14の内周部に位置する部分には負極リード38が接続されている。負極リード38において、負極集電体より下側に延出させた部分は、ケース本体15の底部15bに電気的に接続される。これにより、負極板12の巻き始め側端部が、負極リード38を介してケース本体15の底部15bに電気的に接続される。負極リード38は、帯状の導電部材である。負極リード38の構成材料は特に限定されない。負極リード38はニッケル又は銅を主成分とする金属によって、またはニッケル及び銅の両方を含む金属によって構成されることが好ましい。上記の構成によれば、負極についてさらに良好な集電性を確保しやすい。本例において、その他の構成及び作用は、図1~図3の構成と同様である。
次に、実施例1の非水電解質二次電池を説明する。
[実施例1]
[正極板の作製]
正極活物質として、LiNi0.88Co0.09Al0.03O2で表されるリチウムニッケルコバルトアルミニウム複合酸化物を用いた。その後、100質量部のLiNi0.88Co0.09Al0.03O2(正極活物質)と、1.0質量部のアセチレンブラックと、0.9質量部のポリフッ化ビニリデン(PVDF)(結着剤)とを、N-メチル-2-ピロリドン(NMP)の溶剤中で混合して、正極合剤スラリーを調製した。次に、ペースト状の当該正極合剤スラリーをアルミニウム箔からなる長尺な正極集電体の両面に均一に塗布し乾燥機中で乾燥させてNMPを除去した後、ロールプレス機を用いて所定の厚みに圧延して長尺状の正極板を得た。さらに、圧延加工後の正極板を所定の電極サイズに裁断して、正極板11を作製した。なお、LiNi0.88Co0.09Al0.03O2の結晶構造は、層状岩塩構造(六方晶、空間群R3-m)である。また、正極板11の長さ方向中央部に活物質が形成されていない無地部を形成し、その無地部にアルミニウムの正極リードを超音波溶着により接続した。
[実施例1]
[正極板の作製]
正極活物質として、LiNi0.88Co0.09Al0.03O2で表されるリチウムニッケルコバルトアルミニウム複合酸化物を用いた。その後、100質量部のLiNi0.88Co0.09Al0.03O2(正極活物質)と、1.0質量部のアセチレンブラックと、0.9質量部のポリフッ化ビニリデン(PVDF)(結着剤)とを、N-メチル-2-ピロリドン(NMP)の溶剤中で混合して、正極合剤スラリーを調製した。次に、ペースト状の当該正極合剤スラリーをアルミニウム箔からなる長尺な正極集電体の両面に均一に塗布し乾燥機中で乾燥させてNMPを除去した後、ロールプレス機を用いて所定の厚みに圧延して長尺状の正極板を得た。さらに、圧延加工後の正極板を所定の電極サイズに裁断して、正極板11を作製した。なお、LiNi0.88Co0.09Al0.03O2の結晶構造は、層状岩塩構造(六方晶、空間群R3-m)である。また、正極板11の長さ方向中央部に活物質が形成されていない無地部を形成し、その無地部にアルミニウムの正極リードを超音波溶着により接続した。
[負極板の作製]
負極活物質として、黒鉛粉末を95質量部と、ケイ素酸化物を5質量部とを混合したものを用いた。そして、負極活物質を100質量部と、結着剤としてのスチレン-ブタジエンゴム(SBR)を1質量部と、増粘剤としてのカルボキシメチルセルロース(CMC)を1質量部とを混合した。そして、この混合したものを水に分散させて、負極合剤スラリーを調製した。この負極合剤スラリーを、銅箔からなる負極集電体の両面に塗布し、乾燥機により乾燥させた後、所定厚みとなるように圧縮ローラで圧延して長尺状の負極板を得た。そして、長尺状の負極板を所定の電極サイズに裁断して、負極板12を作製した。また、負極板12の無地部に、ニッケル-銅-ニッケルのクラッド材からなる負極リードを、巻回後の電極群において内周部となる位置に超音波溶着により接続した。
負極活物質として、黒鉛粉末を95質量部と、ケイ素酸化物を5質量部とを混合したものを用いた。そして、負極活物質を100質量部と、結着剤としてのスチレン-ブタジエンゴム(SBR)を1質量部と、増粘剤としてのカルボキシメチルセルロース(CMC)を1質量部とを混合した。そして、この混合したものを水に分散させて、負極合剤スラリーを調製した。この負極合剤スラリーを、銅箔からなる負極集電体の両面に塗布し、乾燥機により乾燥させた後、所定厚みとなるように圧縮ローラで圧延して長尺状の負極板を得た。そして、長尺状の負極板を所定の電極サイズに裁断して、負極板12を作製した。また、負極板12の無地部に、ニッケル-銅-ニッケルのクラッド材からなる負極リードを、巻回後の電極群において内周部となる位置に超音波溶着により接続した。
[非水電解液の調製]
エチレンカーボネート(EC)と、ジメチルカーボネート(DMC)とを、体積比でEC:DMC=1:3となるように混合した混合溶媒の100質量部に、ビニレンカーボネート(VC)を5質量部添加し、さらにLiPF6を1.5モル/L溶解して非水電解質としての非水電解液を調製した。
エチレンカーボネート(EC)と、ジメチルカーボネート(DMC)とを、体積比でEC:DMC=1:3となるように混合した混合溶媒の100質量部に、ビニレンカーボネート(VC)を5質量部添加し、さらにLiPF6を1.5モル/L溶解して非水電解質としての非水電解液を調製した。
[電極群の作製]
作製された正極板11及び負極板12を、ポリオレフィン系樹脂製のセパレータ13を介して渦巻状に巻回することにより、巻回型の電極群14を作製した。このとき、電極群14の最外周に銅箔の負極集電体35が露出されるようにした。電極群14をケース本体15に配置して負極集電体35をケース本体15の筒部の内面に接触させた状態で、290mm2以上の接触面積を持つように、電極群14の外径を制御した。
作製された正極板11及び負極板12を、ポリオレフィン系樹脂製のセパレータ13を介して渦巻状に巻回することにより、巻回型の電極群14を作製した。このとき、電極群14の最外周に銅箔の負極集電体35が露出されるようにした。電極群14をケース本体15に配置して負極集電体35をケース本体15の筒部の内面に接触させた状態で、290mm2以上の接触面積を持つように、電極群14の外径を制御した。
[ケース本体の表面粗さ調整]
鋼板を用いてケース本体15を作製した。ケース本体15の内側面は、塑性変形の加工部であり、その加工部の表面粗さは、材料の表面粗さに依存する。このため、ケース本体15の内側面の第2領域S2において、電極群14の最外周の銅箔からなる負極集電体との接触抵抗が低減するように、JIS B 0601-2001の算術平均粗さが0.4~3μmとなる材料を用意して、ケース本体15を作製した。ケース本体15の内側面において溝入れ部21より上側の、表面粗さが低い第1領域S1は、塑性工程において、0.4μm未満の表面粗さを持つ絞り金型により加工を行い、この金型の表面粗さを第1領域S1に転写して表面粗さの調整を行った。
鋼板を用いてケース本体15を作製した。ケース本体15の内側面は、塑性変形の加工部であり、その加工部の表面粗さは、材料の表面粗さに依存する。このため、ケース本体15の内側面の第2領域S2において、電極群14の最外周の銅箔からなる負極集電体との接触抵抗が低減するように、JIS B 0601-2001の算術平均粗さが0.4~3μmとなる材料を用意して、ケース本体15を作製した。ケース本体15の内側面において溝入れ部21より上側の、表面粗さが低い第1領域S1は、塑性工程において、0.4μm未満の表面粗さを持つ絞り金型により加工を行い、この金型の表面粗さを第1領域S1に転写して表面粗さの調整を行った。
[非水電解質二次電池の作製]
上記のケース本体15の内側に円板状の絶縁板18を挿入し、その上側に電極群14を挿入し、負極板12に接続された負極リードを、ケース本体15の底部15bの内面に溶接により接続した。次に、ケース本体15の内側で電極群14の上側に絶縁板17を挿入し、その絶縁板17より上側の、ケース本体の開口部側に断面U字形の溝入れ部21を全周にわたって塑性加工により形成した。その後、調製した非水電解液を電極群14が入れられたケース本体15の内部に所定量注入した。そして、正極板11に接続された正極リードを封口体16に溶接により接続し、封口体16をケース本体15の開口部の内側にガスケット27を介して挿入し、ケース本体15の開口端部をかしめることで密閉型の非水電解質二次電池10を作製した。
上記のケース本体15の内側に円板状の絶縁板18を挿入し、その上側に電極群14を挿入し、負極板12に接続された負極リードを、ケース本体15の底部15bの内面に溶接により接続した。次に、ケース本体15の内側で電極群14の上側に絶縁板17を挿入し、その絶縁板17より上側の、ケース本体の開口部側に断面U字形の溝入れ部21を全周にわたって塑性加工により形成した。その後、調製した非水電解液を電極群14が入れられたケース本体15の内部に所定量注入した。そして、正極板11に接続された正極リードを封口体16に溶接により接続し、封口体16をケース本体15の開口部の内側にガスケット27を介して挿入し、ケース本体15の開口端部をかしめることで密閉型の非水電解質二次電池10を作製した。
<模擬実験>
本開示の発明者は、ケース本体15を模擬した缶材料試験片と、負極集電体35を模擬した金属箔試験片とを用いて、表面粗さに関する模擬実験を行った。缶材料試験片及び金属箔試験片は、それぞれサイズが19.5mm×19.5mmのシート状である。

第1の模擬実験では、互いに重ね合わせた2つの試験片に電池の内部を模擬した押圧力を印加した状態で試験片間の電気抵抗値を4端子法にて測定した。図5は、この実験により測定した電気抵抗値の接触抵抗率と、缶材料試験片の表面粗さ(算術平均粗さRa2)との関係を示している。図5に示す接触抵抗率は、算術平均粗さRa2が0.1μmの場合の接触抵抗率を100として、その相対値として示している。図5に示す結果から、算術平均粗さRa2が0.4μm以上において、接触抵抗率が低下する傾向となった。これにより、実施形態においても同様の傾向の結果を得られると考えられる。
第2の模擬実験では、2つの板状の缶材料試験片を用いた。2つの缶材料試験片のそれぞれの表面の算術平均粗さRa1は、0.1μmと、0.4μmである。2つの試験片を水平面に対し垂直に立てて、表面に沿うようにスポイトで電解液を滴下した。10秒後、滴下した個所の電解液の残りの量を比較した。この結果、算術平均粗さRa1が0.1μmの試験片では電解液の残りはなかったが、算術平均粗さRa1が0.4μmの試験片では電解液が残った。これにより、表面粗さを小さくすることで、ケース本体15の表面に残る電解液を低減できることを確認できた。
なお、上記の実施形態では、電極群14の最外周面の巻回方向の全部に、負極集電体35が露出し、負極集電体35がケース本体15の内側面に接触する場合を説明した。一方、電極群の最外周面の巻回方向の一部のみに負極集電体が露出し、その負極集電体がケース本体15の内側面に接触する構成としてもよい。また、正極集電体がケース本体15の内側面に接触するように、電極群14の最外周に正極板11を配置することもできる。

Claims (7)
- 開口部と底部とを有する筒状のケース本体と、
前記ケース本体の前記開口部にガスケットを介してかしめ固定される封口体と、
前記ケース本体に収容され、正極板及び負極板がセパレータを介して巻回された巻回型の電極群と、を備え、
前記電極群の最外周面の巻回方向の少なくとも一部に、前記正極板及び前記負極板の一方の極板の金属箔からなる集電体が露出し、前記集電体が前記ケース本体の内側面に接触しており、
前記ケース本体の内側面のうち前記開口部側端から前記ガスケットの前記底部側端の接触位置までの範囲を第1領域とし、前記ケース本体の内側面のうち前記電極群の最外周面に対向する範囲を第2領域としたときに、
前記第1領域の算術平均粗さRa1と、前記第2領域の算術平均粗さRa2とが、Ra1<Ra2を満たす、非水電解質二次電池。 - 前記第1領域の算術平均粗さRa1が0.4μm未満であり、前記第2領域の算術平均粗さRa2が0.4μm以上、3μm以下である、請求項1に記載の非水電解質二次電池。
- 前記極板が負極板である、請求項1または請求項2に記載の非水電解質二次電池。
- 前記負極板の巻き始め側端部が負極リードを介して前記ケース本体の前記底部に電気的に接続される、請求項3に記載の非水電解質二次電池。
- 前記電極群の最外周に位置する前記集電体は、両面が負極活物質層に覆われず露出している、請求項3または請求項4に記載の非水電解質二次電池。
- 前記電極群の最外周に位置する前記集電体は、銅の金属箔からなる、請求項3~5のいずれか1項に記載の非水電解質二次電池。
- 前記負極板が負極活物質としてケイ素材料を含む、請求項1~6のいずれか1項に記載の非水電解質二次電池。
