Definitions

  • the invention relates to a laminate and process for production thereof, more particularly to a laminate for packaging applications, especially for soap wrappers and similar pack formats.
  • a challenge associated with traditional packaging is the use of hot melt adhesives as a sealant.
  • hot melt adhesives require very high temperatures (> 150 Deg C) to melt as well as maintaining these adhesives at a usable viscosity.
  • harmful and unsafe fumes are generated during such melting which has negative effects on the environment & health of the people operating these machines.
  • the polyester film and paper stiffener combination is non-recyclable due to the dissimilar characteristics of the raw material used and hence brand owners are in the need of a recyclable, sustainable, energy efficient soap wrapper laminate.

These films are characterized by their orientation in at least 1 direction. However, these laminates were not found to be user friendly due to its propensity to curl and resistance to dead fold, sub-optimal sealing behavior and high cost economics due to the use of acrylic coating on the OPOF films.
