Definitions
- the present invention relates to a radiator mounting bracket which enables connection of the radiators to the vehicle body and prevents the damage that may occur in the structural parts of the vehicle in the event of a collision.
- Radiators are used in the automotive industry to discharge the excess heat, which is drawn by the coolant that is used to cool the internal combustion engine, to the outer environment. While the coolant, which is heated upon passing through the engine block, is passing through the radiator, it cools upon exchanging heat with the air passing through the radiator and is sent back to the engine block to draw further heat.
- Radiators are usually placed at the front parts of the vehicles so that this heat exchange with the outer environment air can be efficiently carried out.
- the radiators are usually mounted on the front part of the vehicle by being mounted to the vehicle body via various fixing brackets. These brackets are made of a hard material, usually using metals. The fact that they are located in front of the vehicle means that they are one of the first elements to receive the impact in frontal collisions in the event of an accident.
- the current radiator mounting brackets are not broken since they are made of hard metal material, but rotate with respect to the vertical link and front chassis side member, to which they are fixed, with the momentum generated at the moment of the collision, and thus deform these elements and cause structural damage to them. This causes substantial damages to the vehicle even at a low speed collision and increases the costs of repair and insurance of the vehicle. Due to its position, the radiator bracket may damage the main parts of the vehicle by generating a large momentum even in a low impact collision.
- United States patent document no. US4773496A an application known in the state of the art, discloses a radiator support system used in vehicles with internal combustion engines. By means of this system, which is comprised of lower and upper brackets and elastic bearing elements, the radiator is secured in the vehicle body. The detailed description of the invention also discloses that the said brackets can also be produced from plastic materials.
- United States patent document no. US20020157885A1 another application known in the state of the art, discloses a radiator support system provided in vehicles. The system is useful as it acquires a harder structure by fixing the radiators with non-metallic -plastic brackets and vibration isolator.
- CN105522909A another application in the state of the art, discloses about mounting the radiator in the vehicle to the vehicle chassis.
- the invention provides a radiator support system which is different from the prior art upon avoiding high costs with its brackets made of plastic and its design. Summary of the Invention
- the objective of the present invention is to provide a radiator mounting bracket which fixes the radiator to the vehicle body. Another objective of the present invention is to provide a radiator mounting bracket which prevents damage to the main structural parts of the vehicle in the event of frontal collisions.
- a further objective of the present invention is to provide a radiator mounting bracket, which, in the event of a collision, is broken from a predetermined point under the effect of the impact, thereby decreasing the damage to the vehicle.
- Figure 1 is a perspective view of the radiator mounting bracket.
- Figure 2. is a perspective view of the radiator mounting bracket on the vehicle.
- Figure 3. is a sectional view of the breaking region of the radiator mounting bracket.
- FIG. 4 is a perspective view of the radiator mounting bracket after it is broken.
- the components shown in the figures are each given reference numbers as follows: 1. Radiator mounting bracket
- a radiator mounting bracket (1) which mounts the radiator (R) to the vertical link (V), comprises
- the vertical link (V) is a connection part which extends vertically from the front chassis side member of the vehicle and on which components such as front collision crossmember and headlamp crossmember are fixed.
- the radiator (R) is fixed to the vertical link (V) and thus the front chassis side member (K) via the radiator mounting bracket (1).
- the radiator mounting bracket (1) enables connection of the radiator (R) with the vehicle upon connection of the vertical link (V) to one end of the body (2) and the radiator (R) to the other end thereof.
- the body is made of a plastic material so as to be suitable for breaking.
- the breaking region (3) which is provided on the body (2), and which extends from one side of the body (2) to the other side thereof and separates the end to which the vertical link (V) is connected and the end to which the radiator (R) is connected from each other; is designed to be less strong than the rest of the body
- the cross-sectional area of the breaking region (3) is produced to be smaller than the cross-sectional area of the rest of the body (2).
- the body (2) is comprised of an end to which the vertical link (V) is connected, an end to which the radiator (R) is connected, and a breaking region
