전기, 전자, 통신 및 컴퓨터 산업이 급속히 발전함에 따라 고성능 및 고안전성의 이차 전지에 대한 수요가 최근 급격히 증가하고 있다. 특히, 전기, 전자 제품의 경박단소 및 휴대화 추세에 따라 핵심 부품인 이차 전지도 경량화 및 소형화가 요구되고 있다. 또한, 자동차의 대량 보급에 따른 대기 오염 및 소음 등의 환경 공해 문제 및 석유 고갈에 따른 새로운 형태의 에너지 수급원의 필요성이 대두됨에 따라 이를 해결할 수 있는 전기 자동차의 개발 필요성이 증가되어 왔으며 이들의 동력원으로서 고출력, 고에너지 밀도를 갖는 전지의 개발이 요구되고 있다. 이와 같은 요구에 부응하여 최근 가장 많은 각광을 받고 있는 고성능의 차세대 첨단 신형 전지중의 하나가 리튬 금속 전지이다.
음극으로 사용되는 리튬은 밀도 및 표준 환원 전위가 매우 낮기 때문에 고에너지 밀도 전지의 전극 재료로서 가장 각광받고 있다.
한 측면은 낮은 온도에서 전지 구동 가능한 이온 전도도를 확보할 수 있는 리튬금속전지용 전해질을 제공하는 것이다.
다른 측면은 상술한 전해질을 포함하여 셀 성능이 개선된 리튬금속전지를 제공하는 것이다.

비카보네이트계 물질이면서 리튬 금속에 대한 내환원성을 갖고 있는 리튬 이온 전도성 화합물, 가교성 고분자의 중합 반응 생성물 및 리튬염을 포함하는 복합체를 함유하며,
상기 리튬 이온 전도성 화합물은 글리콜 에테르(glycol ether)인 리튬금속전지용 전해질이 제공된다.
다른 한 측면에 따라, 리튬 금속 또는 리튬 금속 합금을 포함하는 리튬 음극; 양극 및 이들 사이에 배치되며 상술한 전해질을 포함하는 리튬금속전지가 제공된다.
일구현예에 따른 리튬금속전지용 전해질은 기계적 강도 및 이온 전도도가 개선된다. 이를 이용하면 사이클 수명이 향상된 리튬금속전지를 제조할 수 있다.

이하에서 예시적인 구현예들에 따른 리튬금속전지용 전해질, 그 제조방법 및 상기 전해질을 이용하여 셀 성능이 개선된 리튬금속전지에 관하여 보다 상세히 설명한다.
일구현예에 따른 리튬금속전지용 전해질은 비카보네이트계 물질이면서 리튬 금속에 대한 내환원성을 갖고 있는 리튬 이온 전도성 화합물, 가교성 고분자의 중합 반응 생성물 및 리튬염을 포함하는 복합체를 함유하며,
상기 리튬 이온 전도성 화합물은 글리콜 에테르(glycol ether)인 리튬금속전지용 전해질이 제공된다.
리튬 금속 음극을 이용하는 리튬금속전지용 전해질로는 폴리에틸렌옥사이드계 전해질 또는 폴리에틸렌-폴리스티렌 공중합체 전해질이 사용된다.
그런데 폴리에틸렌옥사이드계 전해질은 고온에서 충방전 가능한 리튬 이온 전도도를 확보할 수 있고 80℃ 이하의 온도에서는 폴리에틸렌옥사이드의 결정화로 이온전도도가 낮아지고 전지의 충방전 성능이 크게 저하되어 전지 구동이 어렵게 된다. 이와 같이 폴리에틸렌옥사이드계 전해질을 이용한 리튬금속전지에서는 구동 온도의 한계가 있다.
전해질을 형성하는 고분자의 결정화도를 낮추면 낮은 온도에서 전지 구동이 가능하지만 상술한 고분자 전해질은 리튬 덴드라이트를 억제하는 기능이 약하여 양극과 음극간의 쇼트를 발생하여 리튬금속전지의 수명이 저하될 수 있다.
폴리에틸렌-폴리스티렌 공중합체 전해질은 리튬 덴드라이트를 억제하는 기능은 우수하지만 이온 전도도가 낮아 이에 대한 개선이 요구된다.
이에 본 발명자들은 상술한 문제점을 해결하여 낮은 온도에서 충방전이 가능하면서 이온 전도도가 개선된 리튬금속전지용 전해질을 제공한다.
일구현예에 따른 리튬금속전지용 전해질은 도 1에 나타난 바와 같은 복합체를 함유한다.
도 1을 참조하여, 전해질은 가교성 고분자의 중합 생성물 (2)이 그물형 매트릭스를 형성하고 그 안에 높은 이온 전도도를 갖고 비카보네이트계 물질이면서 리튬 금속에 대한 내환원성을 갖는 화합물인 글리콜 에테르(1)와 리튬염(3)이 존재한다. 도 1에 나타난 바와 같이 전해질에서 글리콜 에테르(1) 및 리튬염(2)은 그물형 매트릭스안에 함유된 구조를 갖는다. 이러한 구조를 가짐으로써 전해질은 그물형 매트릭스로 인하여 기계적 강도가 우수하고 리튬염 및 글리콜 에테르의 함유로 이온전도도가 개선된다.
글리콜 에테르는 예를 들어 트리에틸렌글리콜 디메틸에테르, 테트라에틸렌글리콜 디메틸 에테르, 에틸렌글리콜 모노메틸에테르(MG), 디에틸렌글리콜 모노메틸에테르(MDG), 트리에틸렌글리콜 모노메틸에테르(MTG), 폴리에틸렌글리콜 모노메틸에테르(MPG), 에틸렌글리콜 모노에틸에테르(EG), 디에틸렌글리콜 모노에틸에테르(EDG), 에틸렌글리콜 모노부틸에테르(BG), 디에틸렌글리콜 모노부틸에테르(BDG), 트리에틸렌글리콜 모노부틸에테르(BTG), 프로필렌글리콜 모노메틸에테르(MFG), 디프로필렌글리콜 모노메틸에테르(MFDG)로 이루어진 군으로부터 선택되는 1종 이상이다. 글리콜 에테르는 구체적으로 트리에틸렌글리콜 디메틸에테르, 또는 테트라에틸렌글리콜 디메틸 에테르이다.
가교성 고분자는 가교성 관능기를 갖는 고분자라면 모두 다 사용 가능하다. 가교성 관능기는 예를 들어 아크릴레이트, 메타크릴레이트 등을 말한다. 가교성 고분자는 가교성 관능기를 갖고 있어 열 또는 광을 가하면 가교성 관능기간의 결합으로 중합반응(가교반응)이 진행되어 가교성 고분자의 중합 생성물이 형성된다.
가교성 고분자는 예를 들어 폴리옥시알킬렌글리콜 디아크릴레이트, 폴리옥시알킬렌글리콜 디메타크릴레이트 등이 있다. 가교성 고분자는 구체적으로 폴리옥시에틸렌글리콜 디아크릴레이트, 및 폴리옥시에틸렌글리콜 디메타크릴레이트로 이루어진 군으로부터 선택된 하나 이상이다.
일구현예에 따른 전해질에서 글리콜 에테르의 함량은 가교성 고분자 100 중량부를 기준으로 하여 10 내지 80 중량부, 예를 들어 10 내지 50 중량부이다. 글리콜 에테르의 함량이 상기 범위일 때 전해질의 기계적 강도가 저하됨이 없이 이온전도도가 우수하다.
전해질은 이온 전도성 무기 입자를 더 함유할 수 있다.
상기 이온 전도성 무기 입자는 Li1 +x+ yAlxTi2 - xSiyP3 - yO12 (0<x<2, 0≤y<3), BaTiO3, Pb(Zr,Ti)O3(PZT), Pb1 - xLaxZr1 - yTiyO3(PLZT)(O≤x<1, O≤y<1),Pb(Mg3Nb2/3)O3-PbTiO3(PMN-PT), HfO2, SrTiO3, SnO2, CeO2, Na2O, MgO, NiO, CaO, BaO, ZnO, ZrO2, Y2O3, Al2O3, TiO2, SiO2, SiC, 리튬포스페이트(Li3PO4), 리튬티타늄포스페이트(LixTiy(PO4)3,0<x<2,0<y<3), 리튬알루미늄티타늄포스페이트 (LixAlyTiz(PO4)3, 0<x<2, 0<y<1, 0<z<3), Li1 +x+ y(Al, Ga)x(Ti, Ge)2 - xSiyP3 - yO12(O≤x≤1, O≤y≤1), 리튬란탄티타네이트(LixLayTiO3, 0<x<2, 0<y<3), 리튬게르마늄티오포스페이트(LixGeyPzSw, 0<x<4, 0<y<1, 0<z<1, 0<w<5), 리튬나이트라이드계열 글래스(LixNy, 0<x<4, 0<y<2), SiS2(LixSiySz, 0<x<3,0<y<2, 0<z<4), P2S5 계열 글래스(LixPySz, 0<x<3, 0<y<3, 0<z<7), Li2O, LiF, LiOH, Li2CO3, LiAlO2, Li2O-Al2O3-SiO2-P2O5-TiO2-GeO2계 세라믹스, 가넷(Garnet)계 세라믹스 Li3 + xLa3M2O12(M = Te, Nb, 또는 Zr)(x는 1 내지 10의 정수이다)중에서 선택된 하나 이상 또는 이들의 조합물이다.
이온 전도성 무기 입자의 함량은 가교성 고분자 100 중량부를 기준으로 하여 10 내지 100 중량부, 예를 들어 20 내지 80 중량부이다. 이온 전도성 무기 입자의 함량이 상기 범위일 때 전해질의 기계적 강도가 우수하다.
상기 이온 전도성 무기물 입자의 평균 입경은 1 내지 300㎛, 예를 들어 1 내지 200㎛, 구체적으로 1 내지 150㎛이다. 이온 전도성 무기물 입자의 평균 입경이 상기 범위일 때 전해질 제조시 연마 등을 통하여 그레인 바운더리가 없는 단일입자 상태의 이온 전도성 무기물 입자를 함유하는 전해질을 용이하게 얻을 수 있다.
전해질 안에 함유된 리튬염은 당해 기술분야에서 전해질 제조시 일반적으로 사용되는 리튬염이라면 모두 사용 가능하다. 상기 리튬염은 예를 들어 LiSCN, LiN(CN)2, LiClO4, LiBF4, LiAsF6, LiPF6, LiCF3SO3, Li(CF3SO2)2N, Li(CF3SO2)3C, LiSbF6, LiN(SO2CF3)2, Li(FSO2)2N, LiC4F9SO3, LiN(SO2CF2CF3)2, LiSbF6, LiPF3(CF2CF3)3, LiPF3(C2F5)3, LiPF3(CF3)3, LiCl, LiF, LiBr, LiI, LiB(C2O4)2, 리튬 디플루오로(옥살레이토)보레이트(lithium difluoro(oxalato)borate: LiFOB), 리튬 비스(옥살레이토)보레이트(bis(oxalato)borate (LiBOB)) 또는 이들의 혼합물 등을 들 수 있다. 상기 리튬염의 함량은 전해질 총함량을 기준으로 하여 5 내지 80몰%이다.
일구현예에 따른 전해질은 기공도가 10% 이하이거나 또는 기공이 없다. 이러한 특성을 가짐에 따라 전해질은 리튬 덴드라이트에 의한 쇼트 억제 특성이 우수하다.
전해질은 예를 들어 트리에틸렌글리콜 디메틸에테르, 폴리옥시알킬렌글리콜 아크릴레이트의 중합 생성물 및 리튬염을 포함한다.
전해질은 다른 예를 들어 트리에틸렌글리콜 디메틸에테르, 폴리옥시알킬렌글리콜 아크릴레이트의 중합 생성물, 리튬염 및 알루미나, 티타니아, 실리카 중에서 선택된 하나 이상을 포함한다.
이하, 일구현예에 따른 전해질의 제조방법을 살펴보기로 한다.
비카보네이트계 물질이면서 리튬 금속에 대한 내환원성을 갖고 있는 리튬 이온 전도성 화합물인 글리콜 에테르, 가교성 고분자 및 리튬염을 혼합하여 전해질 형성용 조성물을 제조한다. 전해질 형성용 조성물 제조시 글리콜 에테르, 가교성 고분자 및 리튬염을 동시에 혼합할 수 있다. 또는 상기 조성물은 글리콜 에테르와 리튬염을 혼합하여 제1혼합물을 얻고 여기에 가교성 고분자를 부가하여 제조하는 것도 가능하다.
상기 전해질 형성용 조성물에는 중합개시제 및 이온 전도성 무기 입자를 부가한다.
중합 개시제는 이러한 중합 개시제로는 광중합 개시제 또는 열중합 개시제가 사용될 수 있다.
상기 광중합 개시제는 자외선과 같은 광에 의해 라디칼을 형성할 수 있는 화합물이면 그 구성의 한정이 없이 사용될 수 있다. 상기 광중합 개시제로는 예를 들어, 2-하이드록시-2-메틸-1-페닐-프로판-1-온 (HMPP), 벤조인 에테르(benzoin ether), 디알킬아세토페논(dialkyl acetophenone), 하이드록실 알킬케톤(hydroxyl alkylketone), 페닐글리옥실레이트(phenyl glyoxylate), 벤질디메틸케탈(Benzyl Dimethyl Ketal), 아실포스핀(acyl phosphine) 및 알파-아미노케톤(α-aminoketone)으로 이루어진 군에서 선택되는 하나 이상을 사용할 수 있다. 한편, 아실포스핀의 구체예로, 상용하는 lucirin TPO, 즉, 2,4,6-트리메틸-벤조일-트리메틸 포스핀 옥사이드 (2,4,6-trimethyl-benzoyl-trimethyl phosphine oxide)를 사용할 수 있다.
또한, 상기 열중합 개시제로는 과황산염계 개시제, 아조계 개시제, 과산화수소 및 아스코르빈산으로 이루어진 개시제 군에서 선택되는 하나 이상을 사용할 수 있다. 구체적으로, 과황산염계 개시제의 예로는 과황산나트륨(Sodium persulfate; Na2S2O8), 과황산칼륨(Potassium persulfate; K2S2O8), 과황산암모늄(Ammonium persulfate;(NH4)2S2O8) 등이 있으며, 아조(Azo)계 개시제의 예로는 2, 2-아조비스-(2-아미디노프로판)이염산염(2, 2-azobis(2-amidinopropane) dihydrochloride), 2, 2-아조비스-(N, N-디메틸렌)이소부티라마이딘 디하이드로클로라이드(2,2-azobis-(N, N-dimethylene)isobutyramidine dihydrochloride), 2-(카바모일아조)이소부티로니트릴 (2-(carbamoylazo)isobutylonitril), 2, 2-아조비스[2-(2-이미다졸린-2-일)프로판] 디하이드로클로라이드(2,2-azobis[2-(2-imidazolin-2-yl)propane] dihydrochloride), 4,4-아조비스-(4-시아노발레릭 산)(4,4-azobis-(4-cyanovaleric acid)) 등이 있다.
상기 중합 개시제는 가교성 고분자 100 중량부를 기준으로 하여 0.005 내지 10.0 중량부로 포함될 수 있다. 중합개시제의 함량이 상기 범위일 때 가교성 고분자의 중합 반응의 반응성이 우수하다.
광은 자외선(UV)일 수 있다. 이와 같이 광을 이용하여 중합반응을 실시하면 리튬 금속 박막의 상부에 전해질을 형성하는 경우 리튬 금속 박막이 열에 의하여 변형되는 것을 미연에 방지할 수 있다. 리튬 금속 박막과 복합막 사이에는 전해질이 형성될 수 있다.
광 또는 열을 가하여 중합(가교) 반응을 실시하는 시간은 가변적이지만 예를 들어 1분 내지 30분일 수 있다.
열을 가하는 경우 열처리는 가교성 고분자의 종류 등에 따라 달라지며 예를 들어 60 내지 200℃에서 실시될 수 있다. 다른 예를 들면 열처리가 60 내지 100℃에서 실시될 수 있다.
일구현예에 따른 전해질은 고체 상태를 갖는다. 이러한 전해질을 이용하면 전고체 전지를 제조하는 것이 가능하다.
일구현예에 따른 전해질은 에틸렌카보네이트, 프로필렌카보네이트, 디메틸카보네이트, 디에틸카보네이트, 부틸렌 카보네이트, 에틸메틸카보네이트, 플루오로에틸렌카보네이트, 메틸프로필카보네이트, 에틸프로필카보네이트, 메틸이소프로필카보네이트, 디프로필카보네이트, 디부틸카보네이트, 디메틸렌글리콜디메틸에테르, 트리메틸렌글리콜디메틸에테르, 테트라에틸렌글리콜디메틸에테르, 폴리에틸렌글리콜디메틸에테르, 숙시노니트릴, 디메틸술폰, 에틸메틸술폰, 디에틸술폰, 아디포나이트릴, 1,1,2,2-테트라플루오로에틸 2,2,3,3-테트라플루오로프로필 에테르, 2,2,3,3,4,4,5,5-옥타플루오로펜틸 1,1,2,2-테트라플루오로에틸 에테르, 벤조니트릴, 아세토니트릴, 테트라히드로퓨란, 2-메틸테트라히드로퓨란, γ-부티로락톤, 디옥소란, 4-메틸디옥소란, N,N-디메틸포름이미드, N,N-디메틸아세트이미드, 디메틸설폭사이드, 디옥산, 술포란, 디클로로에탄, 클로로벤젠 및 니트로벤젠 중에서 선택된 하나 이상을 더 포함할 수 있다.
상기 전해질에는 충방전 특성, 난연성 등의 개선을 목적으로, 예를 들어, 피리딘, 트리에틸포스파이트, 트리에탄올아민, 환상 에테르, 에틸렌 디아민, n-글라임(glyme), 헥사메틸포스포이미드(hexamethyl phosphoramide), 니트로벤젠유도체, 유황, 퀴논 이민 염료, N-치환 옥사졸리디논, N, N-치환 이미다졸리딘, 에틸렌 글리콜 디알킬 에테르, 암모늄염, 피롤, 2-메톡시 에탄올, 삼염화 알루미늄 등이 첨가될 수도 있다. 경우에 따라서는, 불연성을 부여하기 위하여, 사염화탄소, 삼불화에틸렌 등의 할로겐 함유 용매를 더 포함시킬 수도 있다.
도 2는 일구현예에 따른 리튬금속전지를 나타낸 것이다.
이를 참조하여, 리튬금속전지 (21)는 양극 (23), 리튬 음극 (22) 및 세퍼레이터 (24)를 포함한다. 상술한 양극 (23), 음극 (22) 및 세퍼레이터 (24)가 와인딩되거나 접혀서 전지 케이스 (25)에 수용된다. 이어서, 상기 전지 케이스 (25)에 일구현예에 따른 전해질이 주입되고 캡(cap) 어셈블리로 밀봉되어 리튬금속전지 (21)가 완성된다. 전지 케이스는 원통형, 각형, 박막형 등일 수 있다. 예를 들어, 상기 리튬금속전지는 대형 박막형 전지일 수 있다. 상기 리튬금속전지는 리튬이온전지일 수 있다. 예를 들어, 상기 리튬금속전지는 다음과 같은 방법에 의하여 제조될 수 있다.
먼저 양극이 준비된다.
예를 들어, 양극 활물질, 도전제, 바인더 및 용매가 혼합된 양극 활물질 조성물이 준비된다. 상기 양극활물질 조성물이 금속 집전체 위에 직접 코팅되어 양극판이 제조된다. 이와 다르게는, 상기 양극 활물질 조성물이 별도의 지지체 상에 캐스팅된 다음, 상기 지지체로부터 박리된 필름이 금속 집전체상에 라미네이션되어 양극판이 제조될 수 있다. 상기 양극은 상기에서 열거한 형태에 한정되는 것은 아니고 상기 형태 이외의 형태일 수 있다.

상기 화학식에 있어서, A는 Ni, Co, Mn, 또는 이들의 조합이고; B는 Al, Ni, Co, Mn, Cr, Fe, Mg, Sr, V, 희토류 원소 또는 이들의 조합이고; D는 O, F, S, P, 또는 이들의 조합이고; E는 Co, Mn, 또는 이들의 조합이고; F는 F, S, P, 또는 이들의 조합이고; G는 Al, Cr, Mn, Fe, Mg, La, Ce, Sr, V, 또는 이들의 조합이고; Q는 Ti, Mo, Mn, 또는 이들의 조합이고; I는 Cr, V, Fe, Sc, Y, 또는 이들의 조합이며; J는 V, Cr, Mn, Co, Ni, Cu, 또는 이들의 조합이다.
예를 들어, LiCoO2, LiMnxO2x(x=1, 2), LiNi1 - xMnxO2x(0<x<1), LiNi1 -x- yCoxMnyO2 (0≤x≤0.5, 0≤y≤0.5), LiFePO4 등이다.
물론 상기 화합물 표면에 코팅층을 갖는 것도 사용할 수 있고, 또는 상기 화합물과 코팅층을 갖는 화합물을 혼합하여 사용할 수도 있다. 이 코팅층은 코팅 원소의 옥사이드, 하이드록사이드, 코팅 원소의 옥시하이드록사이드, 코팅 원소의 옥시카보네이트, 또는 코팅 원소의 하이드록시카보네이트의 코팅 원소 화합물을 포함할 수 있다. 이들 코팅층을 이루는 화합물은 비정질 또는 결정질일 수 있다. 상기 코팅층에 포함되는 코팅 원소로는 Mg, Al, Co, K, Na, Ca, Si, Ti, V, Sn, Ge, Ga, B, As, Zr 또는 이들의 혼합물을 사용할 수 있다. 코팅층 형성 공정은 상기 화합물에 이러한 원소들을 사용하여 양극 활물질의 물성에 악영향을 주지 않는 방법(예를 들어 스프레이 코팅, 침지법 등)으로 코팅할 수 있으면 어떠한 코팅 방법을 사용하여도 무방하며, 이에 대하여는 당해 분야에 종사하는 사람들에게 잘 이해될 수 있는 내용이므로 자세한 설명은 생략하기로 한다.
상기 도전제로는 카본블랙, 흑연미립자 등이 사용될 수 있으나, 이들로 한정되지 않으며, 당해 기술분야에서 도전제로 사용될 수 있는 것이라면 모두 사용될 수 있다.
상기 바인더로는 비닐리덴플루오라이드/헥사플루오로프로필렌 코폴리머, 폴리비닐리덴플루오라이드(PVDF), 폴리아크릴로니트릴, 폴리메틸메타크릴레이트, 폴리테트라플루오로에틸렌 및 그 혼합물 또는 스티렌 부타디엔 고무계 폴리머 등이 사용될 수 있으나, 이들로 한정되지 않으며 당해 기술분야에서 바인더로 사용될 수 있는 것이라면 모두 사용될 수 있다.
상기 용매로는 N-메틸피롤리돈, 아세톤 또는 물 등이 사용될 수 있으나, 이들로 한정되지 않으며 당해 기술분야에서 사용될 수 있는 것이라면 모두 사용될 수 있다.
상기, 양극 활물질, 도전제, 바인더 및 용매의 함량은 리튬 전지에서 통상적으로 사용되는 수준이다. 리튬전지의 용도 및 구성에 따라 상기 도전제, 바인더 및 용매 중 하나 이상이 생략될 수 있다.
다음으로 리튬 금속 음극이 준비된다.
리튬 금속 음극은 리튬 금속 박막 또는 리튬 금속 합금 박막이다.
리튬 금속 전극으로서 사용되는 리튬 금속 또는 리튬 금속 합금은 두께가 100㎛ 이하, 예를 들어, 80㎛ 이하, 0.1 내지 60㎛이다. 구체적으로 리튬 금속 또는 리튬 금속 합금의 두께는 1 내지 25 ㎛, 예를 들어 5 내지 20㎛이다.
상기 리튬 금속 합금은 리튬 금속과 리튬 금속과 합금 가능한 금속/준금속 또는 그 산화물을 포함한다. 리튬 금속과 합금 가능한 금속/준금속 또는 그 산화물로는 Si, Sn, Al, Ge, Pb, Bi, Sb, Si-Y 합금(상기 Y는 알칼리 금속, 알칼리 토금속, 13족 원소, 14족 원소, 전이금속, 희토류 원소 또는 이들의 조합 원소이며, Si는 아님), Sn-Y 합금(상기 Y는 알칼리 금속, 알칼리 토금속, 13족 원소, 14족 원소, 전이금속, 희토류 원소 또는 이들의 조합 원소이며, Sn은 아님), MnOx (0 < x ≤ 2) 등일 수 있다.
상기 원소 Y로는 Mg, Ca, Sr, Ba, Ra, Sc, Y, Ti, Zr, Hf, Rf, V, Nb, Ta, Db, Cr, Mo, W, Sg, Tc, Re, Bh, Fe, Pb, Ru, Os, Hs, Rh, Ir, Pd, Pt, Cu, Ag, Au, Zn, Cd, B, Al, Ga, Sn, In, Ti, Ge, P, As, Sb, Bi, S, Se, Te, Po, 또는 이들의 조합일 수 있다. 예를 들어, 상기 리튬 금속과 합금가능한 금속/준금속의 산화물은 리튬 티탄 산화물, 바나듐 산화물, 리튬 바나듐 산화물, SnO2, SiOx(0<x<2) 등일 수 있다.
다음으로, 상기 양극과 음극 사이에 삽입될 전해질이 준비된다.
다음으로 일구현예에 따른 전해질 이외에 리튬 금속전지에서 사용 가능한 전해질이 더 사용될 수 있다.
일구현예에 따르면, 리튬금속전지는 액체 전해질을 더 포함할 수 있다.
액체 전해질은 유기용매, 이온성 액체, 및 리튬염 중에서 선택된 하나 이상을 더 포함한다. 유기용매는 카보네이트계 화합물, 글라임계 화합물, 디옥소란계 화합물, 디메틸 에테르, 1,1,2,2-테트라플루오로에틸 2,2,3,3-테트라플루오로프로필 에테르 등이 있다. 이러한 유기용매로는 에틸렌카보네이트, 프로필렌카보네이트, 디메틸카보네이트, 디에틸카보네이트, 에틸메틸카보네이트, 플루오로에틸렌카보네이트, 감마부티로락톤, 디메톡시에탄, 디에톡시에탄, 디메틸렌글리콜디메틸에테르, 트리메틸렌글리콜디메틸에테르, 테트라에틸렌글리콜디메틸에테르, 폴리에틸렌글리콜디메틸에테르, 숙시노니트릴, 술포레인, 디메틸술폰, 에틸메틸술폰, 디에틸술폰, 아디포나이트릴, 및 1,1,2,2-테트라플루오로에틸 2,2,3,3-테트라플루오로프로필 에테르 중에서 선택된 하나 이상을 들 수 있다.
일구현예에 따른 보호막이 카보네이트계 화합물과 같은 유기용매를 함유하는 액체 전해질을 함께 사용하는 경우, 보호막은 카보네이트계 화합물과 같은 유기용매 또는 이를 함유하는 전해질에 대하여 매우 안정하므로 내화학성이 우수하다.
일구현예에 따른 리튬금속전지는 세퍼레이터를 더 포함할 수 있다. 세퍼레이터로는 폴리에틸렌, 폴리프로필렌, 폴리비닐리덴 플루오라이드 또는 이들의 2층 이상의 다층막이 사용될 수 있으며, 폴리에틸렌/폴리프로필렌 2층 세퍼레이터, 폴리에틸렌/폴리프로필렌/폴리에틸렌 3층 세퍼레이터, 폴리프로필렌/폴리에틸렌/폴리프로필렌 3층 세퍼레이터 등과 같은 혼합 다층막이 사용될 수 있다. 상기 세퍼레이터에는 리튬염과 유기용매를 함유한 전해질이 더 부가될 수 있다.
양극은 다공성 양극일 수 있다. 다공성 양극은 기공을 함유하고 있거나 또는 의도적으로 양극의 형성을 배제하지 않아 양극 내부로 모세관 현상 등에 의하여 액체 전해질이 침투될 수 있는 양극도 포함한다.
예를 들어 다공성 양극은 양극 활물질, 도전제, 바인더 및 용매를 포함하는 양극 활물질 조성물을 코팅 및 건조하여 얻어지는 양극을 포함한다. 이렇게 얻어진 양극은 양극 활물질 입자 사이에 존재하는 기공을 함유할 수 있다. 이러한 다공성 양극에는 액체 전해질이 함침될 수 있다.
다른 일구현예에 따르면, 양극은 액체 전해질, 겔 전해질, 또는 고체 전해질을 포함할 수 있다. 상기 액체 전해질, 겔 전해질 및 고체 전해질은 당해 기술분야에서 리튬전지의 전해질로 사용할 수 있는 것으로서 충방전 과정에서 양극 활물질과 반응하여 양극 활물질을 열화시키지 않는 것이라면 모두 가능하다.
리튬 금속 음극은 금속 박막 또는 리튬 금속 합금 박막을 사용할 수 있다. 리튬 금속 박막 또는 리튬 금속 합금 박막의 두께는 100㎛ 이하일 수 있다. 예를 들어, 상기 리튬전지는 두께 100㎛ 이하의 리튬 금속 박막 또는 리튬 금속 합금 박막에 대하여도 안정적인 사이클 특성이 얻어질 수 있다. 예를 들어, 상기 리튬전지에서 리튬 금속 박막 또는 리튬 금속 합금 박막의 두께는 80㎛ 이하, 예를 들어 60㎛ 이하, 구체적으로 0.1 내지 60㎛일 수 있다. 종래의 리튬전지에서 리튬 금속 박막 또는 리튬 금속 합금 박막의 두께가 100㎛ 이하로 감소하면 부반응, 덴드라이트 형성 등에 의하여 열화되는 리튬의 두께가 증가하여 안정적인 사이클 특성을 제공하는 리튬전지가 구현되기 어려웠다. 그러나 일구현예에 따른 보호막을 이용하면 안정적인 사이클 특성을 갖는 리튬전지를 제작할 수 있다.
일구현예에 따른 리튬금속전지는 고용량 및 고출력이 요구되는 모든 기기에 사용될 수 있다. 예를 들어, 노트북, 스마트폰, 전기차량 등에 사용될 수 있다.
또한, 상기 리튬금속전지는 수명특성 및 고율특성이 우수하므로 전기차량(electric vehicle, EV)에 사용될 수 있다. 예를 들어, 플러그인하이브리드차량(plug-in hybrid electric vehicle, PHEV) 등의 하이브리드차량에 사용될 수 있다. 또한, 많은 양의 전력 저장이 요구되는 분야에 사용될 수 있다. 예를 들어, 전기 자전거, 전동 공구 등에 사용될 수 있다.
일구현예에 따른 전해질은 이온성 액체 및 고분자 이온성 액체 중에서 선택된 하나 이상을 더 포함할 수 있다.
상기 이온성 액체는 상온 이하의 융점을 갖고 있고 이온만으로 구성되는 상온에서 액체 상태의 염 또는 상온 용융염을 말한다. 이온성 액체는 i)암모늄계, 피롤리디늄계, 피리디늄계, 피리미디늄계, 이미다졸륨계, 피페리디늄계, 피라졸륨계, 옥사졸륨계, 피리다지늄계, 포스포늄계, 설포늄계, 트리아졸륨계 및 그 혼합물 중에서 선택된 하나 이상의 양이온과, ii) BF4 -, PF6 -, AsF6 -, SbF6 -, AlCl4 -, HSO4 -, ClO4 -, CH3SO3 -, CF3CO2 -, Cl-, Br-, I-, SO4 -, CF3SO3 -, (FSO2)2N-, (C2F5SO2)2N-, (C2F5SO2)(CF3SO2)N-, 및 (CF3SO2)2N- 중에서 선택된 1종 이상의 음이온을 포함하는 화합물 중에서 선택된 하나이다.
이온성 액체는 예를 들어 N-메틸-N-프로필피롤디니움 비스(트리플루오로메탄술포닐)이미드 N-부틸-N-메틸피롤리디움 비스(3-트리플루오로메틸술포닐)이미드, 1-부틸-3-메틸이미다졸리움 비스(트리플루오로메틸술포닐)이미드 및 1-에틸-3-메틸이미다졸리움 비스(트리플루오로메틸술포닐)이미드로 이루어진 군으로부터 선택된 하나 이상이다.
이온성 액체의 함량은 이온 전도성 고분자 100 중량부를 기준으로 하여 5 내지 40 중량부, 예를 들어 10 내지 20 중량부이다. 이온성 액체의 함량이 상기 범위일 때 이온 전도도 및 기계적 물성이 우수한 전해질을 얻을 수 있다.
전해질이 이온성 액체와 리튬염을 함유하는 경우, 이온성 액체(IL)/리튬 이온(Li)의 몰비(IL/Li)는 0.1 내지 2.0, 예를 들어 0.2 내지 1.8, 구체적으로 0.4 내지 1.5일 수 있다. 이러한 몰비를 갖는 전해질은 리튬 이온 이동도 및 이온 전도도가 우수할 뿐만 아니라 기계적 물성이 우수하여 음극 표면에 리튬 덴드라이트 성장을 효과적으로 억제할 수 있다.
고분자 이온성 액체는 예를 들어 폴리(1-비닐-3-알킬이미다졸리움), 폴리(1-알릴-3-알킬이미다졸리움), 폴리(1-(메타크릴로일록시-3-알킬이미다졸리움) 중에서 선택된 양이온과, CH3COO-, CF3COO-, CH3SO3 -, CF3SO3 -, (CF3SO2)2N-, (FSO2)2N-, (CF3SO2)3C-, (CF3CF2SO2)2N-, C4F9SO3 -, C3F7COO- 및 (CF3SO2)(CF3CO)N- 중에서 선택된 음이온을 포함한다.
상기 화학식 8로 표시되는 화합물은 폴리디알릴디메틸암모늄 비스(트리플루오로메탄술포닐)이미드를 들 수 있다.
또 다른 일구현예에 의하면, 고분자 이온성 액체는 저분자량 고분자, 열적으로 안정한 이온성 액체 및 리튬염을 포함할 수 있다. 저분자량 고분자는 에틸렌옥사이드 사슬을 가질 수 있다. 저분자량 고분자는 글라임일 수 있다. 여기에서 글라임은 예를 들어 폴리에틸렌글리콜 디메틸에테르(폴리글라임), 테트라에틸렌글리콜 디메틸 에테르(테트라글라임), 트리에틸렌글리콜 디메틸에테르(트라이글라임)가 있다.
일구현예에 따른 전해질의 이온 전도도는 약 25℃에서 1 X 10-4S/cm 이상, 예를 들어 5×10-4 S/cm 이상, 구체적으로 1×10-3 S/cm 이상일 수 있다. 그리고 전해질의 인장강도는 예를 들어 200~650 kgf/cm2이다.
상기 리튬금속전지는 예를 들어 리튬공기전지, 리튬이온전지, 리튬고분자전지 또는 리튬설퍼전지이다.
상기 리튬금속전지는 고전압에서 셀 성능이 우수하다. "고전압"은 충전전압이 4.0V 내지 5.5V 범위인 경우를 말한다.
이하의 실시예 및 비교예를 통하여 더욱 상세하게 설명된다. 단, 실시예는 본 발명을 예시하기 위한 것으로서 이들만으로 본 발명의 범위가 한정되는 것이 아니다.
실시예 1
폴리옥시에틸렌글리콜 아크릴레이트 17.6 중량%에 중합개시제인 벤질디메틸 케탈, 트리에틸렌글리콜 디메틸에테르 58.8 중량% 및 리튬염인 리튬 비스(플루오로술포닐)이미드(LiFSI) 23.5 중량%를 혼합하여 전해질 형성용 조성물을 제조하였다.
상기 전해질 형성용 조성물을 지지기판상에 닥터 블래이드를 이용하여 약 100㎛ 두께로 코팅한 다음, UV를 약 30초 동안 조사하여 중합 반응을 실시하여 폴리옥시에틸렌 글리콜 아크릴레이트의 중합 생성물과, 트리에틸렌글리콜 디메틸에테르와 LiFSI를 함유하는 전해질을 제조하였다.
실시예 2
폴리옥시에틸렌글리콜 아크릴레이트 17.6 중량%에 중합개시제인 벤질디메틸 케탈, 트리에틸렌글리콜 디메틸에테르 58.8 중량%, 리튬염인 리튬 비스(플루오로술포닐)이미드(LiFSI) 및 평균입경이 약 500nm의 Al2O3를 혼합하여 전해질 형성용 조성물을 제조하였다. LiFSI의 함량은 전해질 총함량을 기준으로 하여 25몰%이고, Al2O3의 함량은 폴리옥시에틸렌 글리콜 아크릴레이트 100 중량부를 기준으로 하여 60 중량부이었다.
실시예 3
전해질 형성용 조성물 제조시 약 500nm의 Al2O3 대신 평균입경이 약 2000nm의 LTAP(Li1.4Ti1.6Al0.4P3O12)를 사용한 것을 제외하고는, 실시예 2와 동일한 방법에 따라 실시하여 전해질을 제조하였다.
실시예 4
전해질 형성용 조성물 제조시 평균입경이 약 500nm의 Al2O3를 부가하지 않은 것을 제외하고는, 실시예 2와 동일한 방법에 따라 실시하여 전해질을 제조하였다.
실시예 5
LiFSI의 함량은 전해질 총함량을 기준으로 하여 100몰%로 변화된 것을 제외하고는, 실시예 4과 동일한 방법에 따라 실시하여 전해질을 제조하였다.
실시예 6-10
UV를 약 30초, 60초, 90초 및 120초 동안 각각 조사한 것을 제외하고는, 실시예 1과 동일한 방법에 따라 실시하여 전해질을 제조하였다.
실시예 11
양극을 두 개의 리튬 금속 음극 사이에 위치시키고, 양극과 각 음극 사이에는 실시예 6에 따라 제조된 전해질을 배치하여 리튬금속전지를 제조하였다.
양극은 LiFePO4, 도전제(Super-P; Timcal Ltd.), 폴리비닐리덴 플루오라이드(polyvinylidene fluoride: PVdF) 및 N-메틸피롤리돈을 혼합하여 양극 조성물을 얻었다. 양극 조성물에서 LiFePO4, 도전제 및 PVDF의 혼합중량비는 97:1.5:1.5이었다.
상기 양극 조성물을 알루미늄 호일(두께: 약 15㎛) 상부에 코팅하고 25℃에서 건조한 다음, 건조된 결과물을 진공, 약 110℃에서 건조시켜 양극을 제조하였다.
비교예 1
폴리에틸렌옥사이드(PEO) 76.5중량%에 리튬염인 리튬 비스(플루오로술포닐)이미드(LiFSI)를 23.5 중량% 및 유기용매인 클로로포름을 혼합하여 전해질 형성용 조성물을 제조하였다. 유기용매인 클로로포름의 함량은 폴리에틸렌옥사이드 100 중량부를 기준으로 하여 500 중량부이었다.
상기 전해질 형성용 조성물을 지지기판상에 닥터 블래이드를 이용하여 코팅한 다음, 60℃에서 24시간 동안 열처리하여 폴리에틸렌옥사이드와 LiFSI를 함유하는 전해질을 제조하였다.
비교예 2
전해질 조성물이 폴리옥시에틸렌 글리콜 아크릴레이트 76.5중량%에 중합개시제인 벤질디메틸 케탈, 및 리튬염인 리튬 비스(플루오로술포닐)이미드(LiFSI) 23.5 중량%를 혼합하여 제조된 것을 제외하고는, 실시예 5와 동일한 방법에 따라 실시하여 전해질을 제조하였다.
비교예 3
폴리에틸렌옥사이드(PEO) 76.5 중량%에 리튬염인 리튬 비스(플루오로술포닐)이미드(LiFSI), 유기용매인 클로로포름 및 평균입경이 약 500nm의 Al2O3를 혼합하여 전해질 형성용 조성물을 제조하였다. 유기용매인 클로로포름의 함량은 폴리에틸렌옥사이드 100 중량부를 기준으로 하여 500 중량부이었고 LiFSI의 함량은 전해질 총함량을 기준으로 하여 5.0몰%이었다.
상기 전해질 형성용 조성물을 지지기판상에 닥터 블래이드를 이용하여 코팅한 다음, 60℃에서 24 시간동안 열처리하여 폴리에틸렌옥사이드와 LiFSI와 Al2O3를 함유하는 전해질을 제조하였다.
비교예 4
전해질 형성용 조성물 제조시 약 500nm의 Al2O3 대신 평균입경이 약 2000nm의 LTAP를 사용한 것을 제외하고는, 비교예 3과 동일한 방법에 따라 실시하여 전해질을 제조하였다.

폴리에틸렌옥사이드(PEO)에 리튬염인 리튬 비스(플루오로술포닐)이미드(LiFSI) 및 유기용매인 클로로포름을 혼합하여 전해질 형성용 조성물을 제조하였다. 유기용매인 클로로포름의 함량은 폴리에틸렌옥사이드 100 중량부를 기준으로 하여 500 중량부이었고, LiFSI의 함량은 전해질 총함량을 기준으로 하여 5.0몰%이었다.
상기 전해질 형성용 조성물을 지지기판상에 닥터 블래이드를 이용하여 코팅한 다음, 약 60℃에서 24시간 동안 열처리하여 폴리에틸렌옥사이드와 LiFSI를 함유하는 전해질을 제조하였다.
비교예 6
전해질 제조시 UV 조사과정을 거치지 않은 것을 제외하고는, 실시예 5와 동일한 방법에 따라 실시하였다.
비교예 7
실시예 6의 전해질 대신 비교예 3의 전해질을 사용한 것을 제외하고는, 실시예 11과 동일한 방법에 따라 실시하여 리튬이차전지를 제조하였다.
비교예 8
폴리에틸렌옥사이드(PEO) 17.6 중량%에 트리에틸렌글리콜 디메틸에테르 58.8 중량%, 리튬염인 리튬 비스(플루오로술포닐)이미드(LiFSI) 23.5 중량% 및 아세토니트릴을 혼합하여 전해질 형성용 조성물을 제조하였다.
상기 전해질 형성용 조성물을 지지기판상에 닥터 블래이드를 이용하여 코팅한 다음, 약 60℃에서 5시간 동안 열처리하여 폴리에틸렌옥사이드와, 트리에틸렌글리콜 디메틸에테르와 LiFSI를 함유하는 전해질을 제조하였다.
비교예 9
폴리에틸렌옥사이드 대신 폴리에틸렌카보네이트(PEC)를 사용한 것을 제외하고는, 비교예 8과 동일한 방법에 따라 실시하여 전해질을 제조하였다.
비교예 10
폴리에틸렌옥사이드 대신 폴리아크릴로니트릴(PAN)을 사용한 것을 제외하고는, 비교예 1과 동일한 방법에 따라 실시하여 전해질을 제조하였다.
비교예 11
폴리에틸렌옥사이드 대신 폴리메틸메타크릴레이트(PMMA)을 사용한 것을 제외하고는, 비교예 8과 동일한 방법에 따라 실시하여 전해질을 제조하였다.
평가예 1: 이온 전도도
1) 실시예 1 및 비교예 1-2, 8-11
실시예 1 및 비교예 1-2, 8-11에 따라 제조된 전해질의 이온 전도도를 측정하였다. 전해질의 이온전도도는 1 Hz 내지 1 MHz 주파수 범위에서 10 mV의 전압 바이어스를 주고 저항을 측정하여 평가하였다.
이온 전도도를 25℃, 45℃ 및 80℃에서 각각 평가한 결과를 하기 표 1에 나타내었다.

표 1을 참조하여, 실시예 1의 전해질은 비교예 1-2, 8-11의 경우와 비교하여 이온 전도도가 개선됨을 알 수 있었다.
2)실시예 2-5 및 비교예 3-5
실시예 2-5 및 비교예 3-5에 따라 제조된 전해질의 이온 전도도를 측정하였다. 전해질의 이온전도도는 1 Hz 내지 1 MHz 주파수 범위에서 10 mV의 전압 바이어스를 주고 저항을 측정하여 평가하였다. 이온 전도도를 25℃, 45℃ 및 80℃에서 각각 평가한 결과를 하기 표 2에 나타내었다.

표 2로부터, 실시예 2-5의 전해질은 비교예 3-5의 경우와 비교하여 이온
전도도가 향상되었다.
평가예 2: 단락 전류량 (Cd*)
실시예 1-5 및 비교예 1-2에 따라 제조된 전해질을 두 개의 리튬 금속 사이에 개재하여 리튬 대칭셀을 제조하였다.
리튬 대칭셀에서 전지 단락시까지 진행된 전류량을 평가하였고 그 결과를 하기 표 3에 나타내었다.
평가조건은 리튬대칭셀을 코인셀로 준비하여 대칭셀 가운데 전해질을 충전/방전을 0.17mA/Cm2으로 각각 2시간동안 진행한다.
단락이 발생할 경우 전압이 0에 가까워지고 그 때의 전류량을 계산하여 단락 전류량(Cd) 값으로 표기하였다

표 3을 참조하여, 이온전도도가 높아질수록 리튬 이동이 원활해 리튬 덴드라이트 성장이 억제되며, 반대로 이온전도도가 낮으면 저항이 증가하여 리튬이동을 저하시켜 상대적으로 이온전도도가 높은 쪽으로 리튬이 몰려 덴드라이트를 형성되어 결국 셀이 쇼트가 발생된다.
평가예 3
Cu Kαradiation(1.54056Å)을 이용한 X'pert pro (PANalytical)를 이용하여 X선 회절 분석을 실시하였다. X선 회절 분석을 통하여 실시예 6-10에 따라 제조된 전해질 및 비교예 6에 따라 제조된 전해질에 대하여 전해질의 매트릭스 구조를 조사하여 각 전해질에서 경화도를 평가하였다.
평가 결과는 도 11에 나타낸 바와 같다.
이를 참조하면, 전해질의 탄소를 포함한 이중결함 피크가 (1637,1409,1062nm 파장) UV경화를 지속할수록 낮아지므로 이중결합이 단일결합으로 서로 매트릭스 구조로 변함을 알 수 있었다.
평가예 4: 사이클 수명
실시예 11 및 비교예 6에 따라 제조된 리튬금속전지의 사이클 수명을 후술하는 방법에 따라 평가하였다.
상기 각 리튬금속전지에 대하여 45℃에서 0.1C rate의 전류로 전압이 4.30V(vs. Li)에 이를 때까지 정전류 충전하고, 이어서 정전압 모드에서 4.30V를 유지하면서 0.05C rate의 전류에서 컷오프(cut-off)하였다. 이어서, 방전시에 전압이 2.8V(vs. Li)에 이를 때까지 0.1C rate의 정전류로 방전하였다(화성단계, 1st 사이클). 이러한 충방전 과정을 2회 더 실시하여 화성 과정을 완료하였다.
상기 화성 단계를 거친 리튬금속전지를 상온(25℃)에서 리튬 금속 대비 3.0 ~ 4.4 V의 전압 범위에서 0.5C의 정전류로 충전을 실시한 다음, 0.2C로 4.4V의 컷오프 전압(cut-off voltage)에 도달할 때까지 0.72mA 전류로 정전류 방전을 수행하였다.
상술한 충방전 과정을 99회 반복적으로 실시하여 충방전 과정을 총 26회 반복적으로 실시하였다.
실시예 11 및 비교예 6에 따라 제조된 리튬금속전지에 있어서 45에서의 수명을 도 12에 나타내었다.
도 12를 참조하여, 실시예 11의 리튬금속전지가 비교예의 6 경우에 비해서 45 사이클 수명이 가능하다. 이는 이온전도도와 Cd값이 비교예 6의 경우에 비하여 보다 높기 때문임을 알 수 있었다.
실시예 11의 리튬금속전지가 비교예 6의 경우에 비하여 사이클 수명이 개선된다는 것을 알 수 있었다.
평가예 5: 에너지 분산형 X선 분광법(Energy Dispersive X-Ray Spectroscopy) 맵핑(EDS mapping)
실시예 1 및 비교예 8에 따라 제조된 전해질에 대하여 에너지 분산형 X선 분광법(Energy Dispersive X-Ray Spectroscopy)을 이용한 분석을 실시하여 불소(F) 성분의 맵핑을 행하였다.
상기 실시예 1 및 비교예 8에 따라 제조된 전해질에 대한 맵핑 분석 결과를 각각 도 3a 및 도 3b에 나타내었다.
이를 참조하면, 실시예 1의 전해질에서는 불소 성분과 관련된 리튬염이 전해질 전체적으로 균일하게 분포되어 있다는 것을 알 수 있다. 이에 비하여 비교예 8의 전해질에서는 리튬염이 균일하게 배열되지 못한 결과를 보여주고 있고 특히 리튬염이 5몰% 이상 부가하는 경우에는 전해질이 고체 타입이 아니라 겔 타입이 되어 전해질의 이온 전도도가 저하된 결과를 나타냈다.
평가예 6: 전해질 상태
실시예 1, 비교예 1, 2 및 비교예 8-11에 따라 제조된 전해질의 상태를 육안으로 조사하여 도 4 내지 8에 각각 나타내었다. 실시예 1, 비교예 1, 2 및 비교예 8-11에 따라 제조된 전해질의 상태를 하기 표 4에 나타내었다.

실시예 1의 전해질과 비교예 1-2의 전해질은 고체 상태를 나타냈다. 이에 비하여 비교예 8-11의 전해질은 고체 타입이 아니라 겔 형태를 나타냈다.
겔 형태의 전해질은 고체 전해질의 경우와 달리 별도의 분리막 더 사용해야 양극과 음극의 쇼트로 전지가 구동이 안된 것을 막을 수 있다. 그리고 겔 형태의 전해질은 고체상태인 경우에 비하여 전해질 강도가 저하된다.
이를 참조하면, 실시예 11의 리튬금속전지는 비교예 6의 경우와 비교하여 45℃에서의 방전용량 변화 및 용량 유지율 특성이 개선된다는 것을 알 수 있었다.
평가예 7: 전자주사현미경
실시예 1 및 2에 따라 제조된 전해질에 대한 전자주사현미경 분석을 실시하였다. 그 분석 결과를 도 9a, 9b, 10a, 10b에 나타내었다. 전자주사현미경으로는 SNE-4500M/MCM-100 (SEC사)을 이용하였다.
도 9a, 9b는 실시예 1에 대한 SEM 사진이고 도 10a, 10b는 실시예 2에 대한 SEM 사진이다.
이를 참조하면, 실시예 2의 전해질에서 트리에틸렌글리콜 디메틸에테르와 폴리옥시에틸렌글리콜 아크릴레이트를 가교를 통해 고체화된 부분을 확인할 수 있었다. 그리고 도10b와 도9a를 비교해보면 도10b에 나타난 바에 의하면 돌기가 관찰되었다. 이 돌기에 해당하는 것이 무기입자이며 무기입자를 포함하여도 동일하게 고체 형태의 전해질을 확보할 수 있다는 것을 알 수 있었다.
평가예 8
실시예 1 및 2에 따라 제조된 전해질을 각각 두 개의 리튬 금속 사이에 개재하여 리튬 대칭셀을 제조하였다. 리튬대칭셀에 대하여 시간이 경과됨에 따른 전압 변화를 살펴보았다.
평가조건은 리튬대칭셀을 코인셀로 준비하여 대칭셀 가운데 전해질을 충전/방전을 0.17mA/cm2으로 각각 2시간동안 진행한다.
실시예 2에 따라 제조된 전해질을 이용한 리튬대칭셀의 전압 변화를 도 13a에 나타내었고, 실시예 1에 대한 전해질의 전해질을 이용한 리튬대칭셀의 전압 변화를 도 14에 나타내었다. 도 13b는 실시예 2의 전해질(14)이 양극 (12)과 리튬 음극(10) 사이에 개재된 구조를 갖고 있고 상기 전해질안에 함유된 무기 입자(11)로 인하여 기계적 강도가 개선되어 리튬 음극(10) 상부에 리튬 덴드라이트(13)가 형성된 구조를 보여주고 있다.
도 13a을 참조하여, 가교형 폴리머 전해질에 세라믹을 혼합하여 일체형을 시키면, 리튬 덴드라이트를 세라믹이 막아 셀 구동시 쇼트를 지연시킴을 알 수 있었다.
실시예 2의 전해질은 도 13b에 나타난 바와 같이 무기 입자를 함유하여 리튬 덴드라이트가 수직 성장하는 방해하는 기계적 특성이 실시예 1의 경우에 비하여 더 개선됨을 알 수 있었다.
기존의 PEO계는 80℃ 이상에서 구동하기 때문에 45℃ 이하 구동시 셀 충방전이 이루어지지 않는데 반해, 실시예 1의 경우 45℃에서 구동은 가능하지만 폴리머의 강도가 부족하여 이를 개선하기 위해 실시예 2와 같이 세라믹과 일체형 고체전해질 구현시 더 좋은 효과를 확인할 수 있었다.
이상에서는 도면 및 실시예를 참조하여 일구현예가 설명되었으나, 이는 예시적인 것에 불과하며, 당해 기술분야에서 통상의 지식을 가진 자라면 이로부터 다양한 변형 및 균등한 타 구현예가 가능하다는 점을 이해할 수 있을 것이다. 따라서, 본 발명의 보호범위는 첨부된 특허청구범위에 의해서 정해져야 할 것이다.

Claims (12)

  1. 비카보네이트계 물질이면서 리튬 금속에 대한 내환원성을 갖고 있는 리튬 이온 전도성 화합물, 가교성 고분자의 중합 생성물 및 리튬염을 포함하는 복합체를 함유하며,
    상기 리튬 이온 전도성 화합물은 글리콜 에테르(glycol ether)인 리튬금속전지용 전해질.
  2. 제1항에 있어서,
    상기 글리콜 에테르는 트리에틸렌글리콜 디메틸에테르, 테트라에틸렌글리콜 디메틸 에테르, 에틸렌글리콜 모노메틸에테르(MG), 디에틸렌글리콜 모노메틸에테르(MDG), 트리에틸렌글리콜 모노메틸에테르(MTG), 폴리에틸렌글리콜 모노메틸에테르(MPG), 에틸렌글리콜 모노에틸에테르(EG), 디에틸렌글리콜 모노에틸에테르(EDG), 에틸렌글리콜 모노부틸에테르(BG), 디에틸렌글리콜 모노부틸에테르(BDG), 트리에틸렌글리콜 모노부틸에테르(BTG), 프로필렌글리콜 모노메틸에테르(MFG), 및 디프로필렌글리콜 모노메틸에테르(MFDG)로 이루어진 군으로부터 선택되는 1종 이상인 리튬금속전지용 전해질.
  3. 제1항에 있어서,
    상기 가교성 고분자는 폴리옥시에틸렌글리콜 디아크릴레이트, 및 폴리옥시에틸렌글리콜 디메타크릴레이트로 이루어진 군으로부터 선택된 하나 이상인 리튬금속전지용 전해질.
  4. 제1항에 있어서,
    상기 글리콜 에테르의 함량은 가교성 고분자 100 중량부를 기준으로 하여 10 내지 80 중량부인 리튬금속전지용 전해질.
  5. 제1항에 있어서,
    상기 전해질은 이온 전도성 무기 입자를 더 포함하는 리튬금속전지용 전해질.
  6. 제5항에 있어서,
    상기 이온 전도성 무기 입자는 Li1 +x+ yAlxTi2 - xSiyP3 - yO12 (0<x<2, 0≤y<3), BaTiO3, Pb(Zr,Ti)O3(PZT), Pb1 - xLaxZr1 - yTiyO3(PLZT)(O≤x<1, O≤y<1),Pb(Mg3Nb2/3)O3-PbTiO3(PMN-PT), HfO2, SrTiO3, SnO2, CeO2, Na2O, MgO, NiO, CaO, BaO, ZnO, ZrO2, Y2O3, Al2O3, TiO2, SiO2, SiC, 리튬포스페이트(Li3PO4), 리튬티타늄포스페이트(LixTiy(PO4)3,0<x<2,0<y<3), 리튬알루미늄티타늄포스페이트 (LixAlyTiz(PO4)3, 0<x<2, 0<y<1, 0<z<3), Li1 +x+ y(Al, Ga)x(Ti, Ge)2 - xSiyP3 - yO12(O≤x≤1, O≤y≤1), 리튬란탄티타네이트(LixLayTiO3, 0<x<2, 0<y<3), 리튬게르마늄티오포스페이트(LixGeyPzSw, 0<x<4, 0<y<1, 0<z<1, 0<w<5), 리튬나이트라이드계열 글래스(LixNy, 0<x<4, 0<y<2), SiS2(LixSiySz, 0<x<3,0<y<2, 0<z<4), P2S5 계열 글래스(LixPySz, 0<x<3, 0<y<3, 0<z<7), Li2O, LiF, LiOH, Li2CO3, LiAlO2, Li2O-Al2O3-SiO2-P2O5-TiO2-GeO2계 세라믹스, 가넷(Garnet)계 세라믹스 Li3 + xLa3M2O12(M = Te, Nb, 또는 Zr)(x는 1 내지 10의 정수이다)중에서 선택된 하나 이상 또는 이들의 조합물인 복합막.
  7. 제1항에 있어서,
    상기 리튬염이 LiSCN, LiN(CN)2, LiClO4, LiBF4, LiAsF6, LiPF6, LiCF3SO3, Li(CF3SO2)2N, Li(CF3SO2)3C, LiSbF6, LiN(SO2CF3)2, Li(FSO2)2N, LiC4F9SO3, LiN(SO2CF2CF3)2, LiSbF6, LiPF3(CF2CF3)3, LiPF3(C2F5)3, LiPF3(CF3)3, LiCl, LiF, LiBr, LiI, LiB(C2O4)2, 리튬 디플루오로(옥살레이토)보레이트(lithium difluoro(oxalato)borate: LiFOB), 리튬 비스(옥살레이토)보레이트(bis(oxalato)borate (LiBOB)) 또는 이들의 혼합물 중에서 선택된 하나 이상인 리튬금속전지용 전해질.
  8. 제1항에 있어서,
    상기 리튬염의 함량은 전해질 총함량을 기준으로 하여 5 내지 80몰%인 리튬금속전지용 전해질.
  9. 제1항에 있어서,
    상기 전해질은 기공도가 10% 이하인 리튬금속전지용 전해질.
  10. 제1항에 있어서,
    상기 전해질은 트리에틸렌글리콜 디메틸에테르; 폴리옥시알킬렌글리콜 아크릴레이트의 중합 생성물; 및 리튬염;을 포함하는 리튬금속전지용 전해질.
  11. 제1항에 있어서,
    트리에틸렌글리콜 디메틸에테르; 폴리옥시알킬렌글리콜 아크릴레이트의 중합 생성물; 리튬염; 및 알루미나, 티타니아, 실리카 중에서 선택된 하나 이상;을 포함하는 리튬금속전지용 전해질.
  12. 리튬 금속 또는 리튬 금속 합금을 포함하는 리튬 음극;
    양극 및
    이들 사이에 배치되며 제1항 내지 제11항 중 어느 한 항의 전해질을 포함하는 리튬금속전지.
