Definitions
- the invention mainly concerns machines employing gas pressure for performing mechanical work, liquid and gas pumps.
- the working volume of the machine created by cylinder is used.
- the cylinder is dosed by a machine head and a sliding piston.
- the piston is connected via a pin and a connecting rod with a crank mechanism.
- the flexible disk is precisely that part of the machine that changes the working volume of the machine. It transmits the gas pressure during the working period to the crank or eccentric mechanism.
- the flexible disk in the basic position is circular, planar in shape. Its thickness depends on the diameter, the deflection and the material used. Thickness may be constant or changes from the center to the circumference.
- the working volume of the machine depends on the diameter of the disk and the size of Its deflection.
- the machine's working volume is created by a machine head enclosed by a flexible disk.
- the machine head is attached to the machine block and between them there is the flexible disk embedded on its circumference firmly or loosely.
- the change of the working volume of the machine is made by deflection of the flexible disk symmetrically towards the machine head and the machine block.
- the deflection of the flexible disk must not exceed the area of the elastic deformations of the material used; therefore the deflection of the flexible disk relative to its diameter is small.
- the crank or eccentric shaft is embedded in the machine block.
- the flexible disk is connected with it in its center through the pin and the connecting rod.
- the flexible disk is pushed through the connecting rod to the machine head.
- the flexible disk is maximally bent at the top dead center and forms roughly the shape of the ball layer.
- This shape of a convex flexible disk copies the free space in the machine head. This space fellows the compression space in the machine head.
- the flexible disk bends again through the connecting rod to the maximum extent and creates roughly the shape of a ball layer.
- deflection of the flexible disk from the top to the bottom dead center causes the gas pressure. This deflection transfers the crank or eccentric mechanism into a rotary motion.
- the working volume of the machine is given by the sum of the symmetrical roughly spherical layers above and below the plane position of the flexible disk and the compression volume in the machine head.
- the flexible disk When the flexible disk is mounted firmly between the head and the machine block, the flexible disk is clenched between the head and the machine block.
- the plane shape is the simplest, but to increase the deflection and extend the life of the flexible disk it is advantageous to press the circular profile on the circumference. The profile is pressed to one side of the flexible disk or also to the other side.
- Loose embed also increases the possible deflection and extends the life of the flexible disk.
- the flexible disk In case of loose embedding of the flexible disk between the head and the machine block, the flexible disk is placed in the gap between the head and the machine block.
- the flexible disk is sealed on the circumference by the sealing rings. At least one sealing ring is placed in the machine head and at least one sealing ring is placed in the machine block. After assembly of the machine head on the machine block, the sealing rings after placement on the flexible disk will he preferably positioned opposite one another. At the same time, the sealing rings create embedding of the flexible disk circumference. The size of the pressure force on the sealing rings must be suitably adjusted.
- the advantage of a flexible disk solution ts the simpler and cheaper design when compared to the cylinder and piston solution.
- the disadvantage is the larger diameter of the flexible disk, depending on the size of the required volume, which thus affects the dimensions of the machine.
- the gas distribution in the machine head, lubrication, cooling, drives and machine accessories can be solved in a conventional manner.
- Fig. 1 shows a machine construction with a flexible disk in cross section.
- the flexible disk is embedded firmly between the machine head and the machine block.
- Fig. 2 shows a flexible disk in cross section with a pressed circular profile on both sides of the flexible disk.
- Figure 3 is in cross section shown loose embedding of the flexible disk in the machine. The flexible disk is fixed by sealing rings.
- Machine head 2 is dssmountabiy connected with the machine block 8. By their assembly, the bedding for the flexible disk 1 . is created.
- the inner space of the machine head 2 follows the maximum deflection of the flexible disk.
- the flexible disk i reaches the maximum, deflection at the top dead center, when through the pin 5 and the connecting rod 4 by rotation of the crank or eccentric shaft 3 is the flexible disk 1 pushed to the machine head 2.
- the space in the machine head 2 required for bending of the flexible disk 1 is followed by the compression space, After turning of the crank or eceentric shaft 3 into the bottom dead center, the flexibie disc t reaches the maximum bend by pulling through the connecting rod 4 and the pin 5. This maximum bending of the flexibie disk follows the free space in the machine block_8 with the hole for the connecting rod 4.
- the flexible disk 1 When the flexible disk t is embedded firmly between the bead 2 and the machine block 8, the flexible disk 1 . is clenched by bolts between the head 2 and the machine block 8. in the case of the loose embedding of the flexibie disk i in the gap between the head 2 and the machine block 8 the compression space is sealed by the sealing rings 8 and 7 to prevent the gas pressure leakage.
- sealing rings 6 and 7 are arranged in such a manner so that when the machine head 2 and the machine block 8 are seated on the flexibie disk 1, the sealing rings are preferably positioned opposite one another.
- the construction of machines with the flexibie disk according to the invention can be used in the construction of combustion engines, gas compressors, liquid pumps and wherever a piston cylinder is used.
