Definitions
- the invention relates to a protective structure for an armored vehicle or object, which is externally frictionally connectable at least in some areas with a basic structure of the armored vehicle.
- Such a protective structure is described for example in EP 2 195 601 B1 for the tower of a main battle tank.
- the basic structure of the tower in which the outer skin of Panzerstahi is used as a protective cell, especially for the crew of the main battle tank.
- the protective structure which is additionally arranged on the basic structure of the tower, serves to protect electronic assemblies arranged on the outside of the frame construction, assemblies for the ammunition feed, and assemblies for tower control, etc.
- EP 2 195 601 B1 proposes inter alia thin or thick-layered composite material, in particular ceramic composite material.
- a composite material is relatively expensive.
- From DE 102 57 942 A1 is also known to use to protect armored vehicles against the bombardment with shaped charges modular protection elements that contain an open-cell metal foam.
- a disadvantage in this case is the relatively cost-intensive production of the individual protection modules as well as the connection of the individual modules with one another in order to achieve a large wall area of an armored vehicle with this protective structure.
- the invention has for its object to provide a protective structure for armored vehicles, which is easy to manufacture and large-scale attachable to the vehicle and has a low weight.
- the invention is based essentially on the idea of using a plurality of surface-shaped protective elements for the protective structure, each having a metal foam sandwich structure with two cover layers and a foam core arranged therebetween.
- the protective elements each have a sandwich structure whose foam core and its outer layers consist of an aluminum alloy (aluminum foam sandwich) (Aiu foam).
- strip-shaped connecting elements are preferably arranged on the basic structure, with which the protective elements are fixedly and non-detachably connected to one another, for example welded. It has proven particularly useful if the connecting seams have a wave-shaped course in the longitudinal direction. This avoids that the force flows linearly from the strip-shaped connecting elements, for example metal strips, into the metal foam or aluminum foam, but over a larger area. The wave-shaped course of the weld reduces the notch effect and thus the risk of breakage.
- the respective protective structure can advantageously comprise open or closed housing-shaped partial areas, each consisting of a frame construction, the protective elements filling the frame panels.
- the protective elements and the also made of metal frame members (carrier) are connected to each other such that both cover layers of the respective sandwich structure with the corresponding frame element are insoluble. Even in such cases, it has proven useful if the connecting seams have a wave-shaped course in the longitudinal direction.
- a protective structure for an armored vehicle which is on the outside at least in some areas with a basic structure of the armored vehicle kraftschiüssig connectable.
- a protective structure for armored vehicles which is easy to manufacture and has a low weight
- at least a portion of the protective elements are provided with at least one outside protruding, bolt-shaped knobs made of metal.
- the bolt-shaped knobs each store in a bore of the corresponding protective element and are firmly connected to the opposite two outer layers of the metal foam sandwich structure, in particular welded. This design increases the stable absorption of the modules or other Schutzpiatten.
- Figure 1 is a perspective view of the basic structure of the tower of a battle tank with arranged on the basic structure of the invention protection structure comprising a plurality of separately arranged body parts.
- Fig. 2 is a view of a portion of a Schutzeiementes of the protective structure shown in Fig. 1 obliquely from above and
- Fig. 3 is an enlarged view of the designated in Fig. 2 with III area as a side view (longitudinal section).
- 1 denotes the basic structure of the tower of a main battle tank.
- the basic structure 1 consists essentially of a frame construction, wherein the frame panels are filled by plates 2 made of armored steel. This basic structure simultaneously forms the protective cell for the crew (commander, gunner, driver etc).
- a protective structure 3 is arranged on the outside. This consists of several, not necessarily interconnected body parts 4-7, which serve the protection on the outside of the basic structure 1 arranged electronic assemblies, assemblies for ammunition supply and assemblies for tower control, etc. (not shown).
- surface-shaped protective elements 8 are used for the protective structure 3, each having a metal foam sandwich structure 9 (FIGS. 2 and 3) with two cover layers 10, 11 and a foam core 12 arranged therebetween (in the exemplary embodiment described here, a sandwich structure was used, whose foam core 12 and its cover layers 10, 11 consist of an aluminum alloy (aluminum foam sandwiches)).
- strip-shaped connecting elements 13 made of metal are arranged on the basic structure.
- a not-shown groove is introduced, in which the foam plates (cell structure) or protective elements 8 are inserted.
- the strips 13 and the protective elements 8 are bifurcated for this purpose.
- the protective elements 8 and the metal strips 13 are then permanently connected to each other inseparably.
- Alternative permanent joints are brazing, in particular brazing, riveting, gluing etc.
- the connecting seams (for example welded seam) 14 have a wavy course in the longitudinal direction.
- the mounting parts 4 and 5 of the protective structure 3 are formed housing-shaped and each consist of a frame construction, wherein the protective elements 8 fill the frame fields and with frame members 15 (carriers) are firmly connected.
- the protective structure 3 comprises an open and / or a closed housing-shaped structural part 4, 5, which consists of a frame construction. stands, with the protective elements 8 fill the frame fields.
- the also made of metal frame members 15 are inextricably linked (welded) with the protective elements 8 such that both cover layers (10, 11) of the respective sandwich structure (9) with the corresponding frame member (15) are welded.
- the frame members 15 are preferably forked to accommodate the protection elements 8 by plugging.
- the two elements 8, 15, in turn, also become solid and insoluble, e.g. by welding, connected together.
- These connecting seams 14 also have a wavy course in the longitudinal direction.
- the protective elements 8 shown in Fig. 1 each have a plurality of holes 16, in which externally projecting, bolt-shaped knobs made of metal can be welded. With these bolt-shaped knobs then additional assemblies (not shown) but also other armor plates, etc. for variable adjustment of the necessary level of protection, are positively connected.
- Such bolt-shaped knobs 17 are shown in FIGS. 2 and 3. They each store in a bore 16 of the corresponding protective element 8 and are each inextricably connected to the opposite cover layers 10, 11 of the metal foam sandwich structure 9, for example, welded.
- the invention is not limited to the embodiment described above.
- the protective structure need not necessarily consist of several separate structural parts, but may, similarly as this is disclosed in the aforementioned document EP 2 195 601 B1, also consist of a coherent structure.
- the plates 2 made of armor steel of the basic structure 1 are covered by corresponding protective elements 8 of the protective structure 3, so that the protective cell is additionally secured against enemy bombardment.
- the protective structure can be used on vehicles or other objects. LIST OF REFERENCE NUMBERS
