- the present invention abandons the idea that an injector system optimized for ions with a small charge mass ratio is also used to accelerate ions with a large charge mass ratio, so that ions with a large charge mass ratio are synchrotron
- an injector system that accelerates different ions to different energies.
- an injector system capable of emitting energy suitable as incident energy to the synchrotron for ions having a small charge mass ratio and ions having a large charge mass ratio could be realized in a small size.
- FIG. 1 is a block diagram showing a schematic configuration of a synchrotron injector system according to Embodiment 1 of the present invention.
- the synchrotron injector system 10 is a system that allows two types of ions to be switched to be incident on the synchrotron 100.
- the synchrotron injector system 10 includes a first ion source 1 that generates first ions, and a second ion source 2 that generates second ions having a smaller charge-to-mass ratio than the first ions. Yes.
- a proton will be described as an example of the first ion

- the drift tube linear accelerator having such a configuration is called an IH (Interdigital-H) type drift tube linear accelerator.
- IH Interdigital-H
- the drift tube linear accelerator high frequency power is supplied from the high frequency generator 50 into the cylindrical resonator, and a high frequency electric field is generated in gaps G1, G2,... Between adjacent drift tubes (hereinafter referred to as drift tube gaps).
- drift tube gaps Between adjacent drift tubes (hereinafter referred to as drift tube gaps).
- the ions traveling along the acceleration axis 20 are accelerated by the high frequency electric field.
- ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ Ions are accelerated as particle beams. Since the particle beam is an aggregate of ions (charged particles), a divergent force acts between the particles (this is called a space charge effect). Therefore, the particle beam spreads in both the radial direction and the traveling direction as it advances in the traveling direction. In particular, the particle beam collides with the vacuum duct wall due to radial divergence and is lost. Therefore, a beam radial direction convergence device that suppresses radial divergence is required.

Since there is a capability of accelerating ions when the high-frequency electric field strength is positive, here, a half cycle in which the high-frequency electric field strength is positive is referred to as an acceleration half cycle.
- the acceleration half cycle Pai of the drift tube gap Gi and the acceleration half cycle Pai + 2 of Gi + 2 are half from (360 * N ⁇ 90) degrees to (360 * N + 90) degrees, such as from ⁇ 90 degrees to +90 degrees and from 270 degrees to 450 degrees. It becomes a cycle.
- the acceleration half cycle Pai + 1 of the drift tube gap Gi + 1 is a half cycle from (360 * N + 90) degrees to (360 * N + 270) degrees.

- the uppermost part of FIG. 4 shows the position of the ion particle corresponding to the high-frequency phase, that is, the position where the ion particle exists at the time corresponding to the phase.
- the ion particles receive energy from the high-frequency electric field generated in the drift tube gap Gi in the drift tube gap Gi and are accelerated. When the ion particles enter the drift tube Ti, the ion particles are not accelerated and proceed with the energy as they are, and in the next drift tube gap Gi + 1, energy is received from the high-frequency electric field generated in the drift tube gap Gi + 1 and further accelerated.
- FIG. 4 shows how the ionic particles proceed while being accelerated in this way.
- the ion particles pass through the drift tube gap Gi in FIG. 4 at a phase of about ⁇ 30 degrees, for example, just before the peak of the electric field strength in the acceleration half cycle. Adjust the electric field strength. As a result, ion particles passing through with a slight delay are further accelerated, so that an aggregate of ions is formed.
- a high-frequency electric field having an opposite phase is generated in the next drift tube gap, and therefore, the acceleration half cycle Pai + 1 of the drift tube gap Gi + 1 is changed from the acceleration half cycle Pai to the half cycle of the drift tube gap Gi. Delayed half cycle. That is, the difference in acceleration half cycle between adjacent drift tube gaps is a half cycle.

- the energy of the second ion is (q2 / A2) / (q1 / A1) of the energy of the first ion. (Proportion of charge-mass ratio) is preferably doubled.
- the second acceleration cycle difference may be further increased to 2.5 cycles or 3.5 cycles.
- the second acceleration cycle difference when accelerating the second ions is operated to be larger than the first acceleration cycle difference when accelerating the first ions.
- the first acceleration cycle difference may be a half cycle (0.5 cycle)
- the second acceleration cycle difference may be a (0.5 + n) cycle (n is a positive integer).
- the second ion with a small charge mass ratio is designed so that the energy to be emitted is lower than that of the first ion, so that the high frequency power supplied when accelerating the first ion,

With this configuration, a quadrupole electric field is formed in the gap between the drift tubes, and ions are accelerated while being converged. With this configuration, in accelerating the first ion and accelerating the second ion, each ion is accelerated by appropriately designing the acceleration phase and the formed quadrupole electric field. Even if you do not diverge, you can accelerate with less loss. Further, the convergence by the magnetic field shown in FIG. 8 and the convergence by the electric field can be used in combination.

In this way, the ion aggregate is accelerated each time it passes through the drift tube gap.
- the conventional Alvare drift tube linear accelerator is designed as described above, and during operation, high-frequency power is supplied to accelerate the operation according to the design.
- the ion beam having the designed energy is emitted and incident on the synchrotron 100.
- the first ions for example, protons
- the second ion having a small charge mass ratio for example, a tetravalent carbon ion
- the difference in the acceleration half cycle in which the first ions are accelerated is called the first acceleration cycle difference
- the difference in the acceleration half cycle in which the second ions are accelerated is the second acceleration cycle difference. I will call it.
- the first acceleration cycle difference is one cycle.
- FIG. 14 shows the state of acceleration when the second ion is a tetravalent carbon ion in the drift tube linear accelerator of the synchrotron injector system according to the second embodiment of the present invention, that is, the Alvara drift tube linear accelerator.
- FIG. The aggregate of the second ions passes through the drift tube gap Gi and accelerates through a phase just before the peak of the high-frequency electric field intensity.
- acceleration is not performed in the next one cycle, but in a phase just before the peak of the high-frequency electric field strength during the half cycle that becomes one half cycle later than the next one cycle.
- the high frequency electric field strength that is, the high frequency power supplied to the cylindrical resonator is adjusted.
- the second acceleration cycle difference is two cycles.
- the acceleration of the second ions is slower than the first ions. That is, the energy of the second ions emitted from the drift tube linear accelerator is smaller than the energy of the first ions.
- the energy of the second ion is (q2 / A2) / (q1 / A1) of the energy of the first ion. It is preferable that the charge / mass ratio is doubled.
- the second acceleration cycle difference may be further increased to 3 cycles or 4 cycles.
- the second acceleration cycle difference when accelerating the second ions is operated to be larger than the first acceleration cycle difference when accelerating the first ions.
- the first acceleration cycle difference is one cycle
- the second acceleration cycle difference is a (1 + n) cycle (n is a positive integer).
- the Alvare drift tube linear accelerator is designed so that the energy to be emitted from the second ion having a small charge-mass ratio is lower than that of the first ion, similarly to the IH drift tube linear accelerator.
- the difference between the high-frequency power supplied when accelerating the first ion and the high-frequency power supplied when accelerating the second ion having a smaller charge-to-mass ratio than the first ion is small.
- a large high frequency generator is not necessary.
- the operation of the present invention in the drift tube linear accelerator of the synchrotron injector system according to the second embodiment is summarized as follows.
- the operation in the IH drift tube linear accelerator described in the first embodiment Like When accelerating the first ion, an acceleration half cycle in which the first ion is accelerated in one drift tube gap among the plurality of drift tube gaps, and the accelerated first ion is the one drift tube
- the high-frequency power is supplied to the drift tube linear accelerator so that the difference from the acceleration half cycle that reaches the drift tube gap next to the gap and accelerates becomes the first acceleration cycle difference, and the charge mass ratio is higher than that of the first ion.
- the high frequency of the high frequency power that makes the second acceleration cycle difference which is the difference from the accelerated acceleration half cycle larger than the first acceleration cycle difference, is linearly added to the drift tube.
- a high frequency generator capable of accelerating the first ions the energy of the emitted ions is lower than that of the first ions, but the second ions can also be accelerated.
- a synchrotron injector system can be constructed.
- each embodiment can be appropriately modified or omitted within the scope of the invention.

Abstract
