Definitions
- the present invention pertains to the technical field of protective devices and, specifically, relates to protective covers for tire purposes to prevent external oxidation, scratches and internal damage thereof, in particular to the drums and to the brake disc during prolonged storage. and transportation, which by design and materials is universal, self-adjusting and reusable,
- kidneys One of the most important points of claim in transport is the damage of the kidneys, in particular due to the aesthetic and functional abuse of the kidneys.
- the wheel cover described in this application is only for a wheel that comprises a channel in which the cylindrical support is inserted which comprises notches or row of projections in its circumference.
- the way in which it is done is deficient, because for the centering means to perform their function, it is necessary that the wheel has an internal groove in the area that receives the central hole of the roof, this offers the disadvantage
- the wheels have to be manufactured with said groove increasing the cost of production of a car
- an additional disadvantage is that wheels cannot be used other than those that the cover is designed in the automotive industry and design trends allow the customers choose the wheels according to their tastes, having to design a wheel cover for transportation for each wheel results in an excessive cost in the transportation of a vehicle.
- the above offers the disadvantage that different types of wheels cannot be placed and have only one type of wheel cover, since the aforementioned patent is not universal.
- Mexican Patent 228234 describes and shows in its figures a wheel protection system, comprising a cover which has raised areas formed in a molded film, in its center there is a cylindrical support piece that extends axially towards the wheel and corresponding in diameter to a centering bore of the tire, the central bore has in its circumference a row of grip projections extending in the circumferential direction.
- said patent tries to resolve the cover of a wheel, the way in which it is done is deficient because it has a series of undulations that does not prevent the cover from deforming with which, having an air current, it deforms in both directions. Of the cover.
- the Mexican patent 323046 of the same authorship is known and which could be considered as the closest document to the present application, which describes a protective plastic cover of one-piece, circular-shaped wheels comprising a cylinder thermo-central central formed in the center of the plastic cover that is formed by a substantially cylindrical neck, which has at its upper end, a perimetrat curvature section that has a larger diameter than the rest of the neck: the curvature section has a radius of curvature of 3 mm and an angle of 8.8 "with respect to the vertical of the neck; a plurality of outer radial ribs that are helically formed on the neck and are discontinuous, to allow insertion and removal of the protective cover in a single step and without tools; a circumferential plane perimeter step is projected horizontally from the lower end of the neck to a point from which a plurality of circumferential undulations formed by pointed convex ridges begin, which in turn alternate with concave valleys in a semicircular shape, ending up to a circumferential
- the cover in all its trajectory, can be subjected to temperatures between - 10 ° C and 60 ° C due to the ambient temperature, both by the heating of the braking part, and during the transfer in boats in the lower areas of the same .
- the current devices do not satisfactorily fulfill the purpose for which they were created, since although they initially block or cover the air circulation in the braking system at the height of the tire, they have a series of structural and design deficiencies that cause this protection to deform, move or even detach from its fixation point or points, causing not only the original damage for which they were placed, but also collateral damage such as that detachment causes the wheel, the painting of the car and even with the risk of causing road accidents when they are transported on their mobile containers.
- the present invention aims to offer a protective cover of circular wheels comprising a plurality of concave valleys with a semicircular shape that in turn alternates with a plurality of convex ridges with a pointed shape forming a wave train, which are attached to an outer piano edge that makes contact with the outside of a wheel or rim; a horizontally projected circumferential plane step from which a circular trapezoidal support base is formed that forms a step thanks to its flat annular surface that serves as a stop and from which a central connector consisting of a trapezoidal neck that serves as a base for a crown whose diameter is greater than the upper part of the trapezoidal neck and on its surface is a perimeter reinforcement edge from which a series of staggered concentric rings that extend slightly towards the trapezoidal neck down towards the interior of the central connector.
- a second object of protection refers to a method for protecting the air itself, as well as the interior of the binder, in particular the drums and the brake discs from corrosion during prolonged storage and transport. It comprises the step of placing the cover described above in the central hollow of a wheel.
- Figure 1 shows the protective wheel cover and its placement in a wheel.

- the present invention is a thermoformed rim protective cover that has the purpose of preventing damage by corrosion or oxidation of the internal part of the rim and external scratches, as well as of the drums and brake disc during the transport and prolonged storage of new vehicles.
- This cover thanks to its design and materials, is resistant even at speeds of up to 240 kilometers per hour, which are driving conditions well above those used in the ports of embarkation and disembarkation. Additionally, said cover also supports forces above 400 Newtons of perpendicular detachment and 150 Newtons by applying lateral pressure force, conditions that occur during the movement of vehicles on railway platforms or specialized transport, covering standards as strict as European shipbuilders. : "Protective wheel covers during transport (TRAD) for new vehicles”.
- Figure 1 refers to a perspective view of the protective wheel cover (1) and its placement in a wheel (2), which is constructed in high impact PET, approximately 0.762 mm (30 mils) in material ranked in the first place in recycling, allowing its reuse of grinding.
- Figure 1 shows how the protective cover (1) is placed on a wheel (2) through the central connector (3) that matches the hole in the wheel (4).
- the protective cover of the present invention is optionally provided with a circular perforation (S) in the surface body, which allows the vehicle to be anchored in the transport ships, but despite the fact that the others have perforations, because of its fixing system, cannot turn because they would suffer damage to its center, something that in the present invention does not happen because of the shape of the central connector (3) and its Ribs allow it to rotate without breaking.
- S circular perforation
- This perforation gives a unique characteristic to the piece that is to be able to rotate on the body of the Rhine, so that the surface of the Rhine is exposed and in the correct position to be able to introduce an anchoring system provided in the transport ships Maritime for vehicles.
- This feature does not affect the performance or the main corrosion protection function of the braking and Rin systems, for which the present invention was created. Due to the arrangement of the elements of the protective wheel cover, it can be rotated to place the circular perforation (5) in the desired position without breaking or decreasing the anchoring properties of the protective wheel cover (1). In Figure 2, the outer face of the protective wheel cover is observed
- the outside diameter (7) is variable according to the number of wheel which will be placed to cover the same from its outer piano edge (6), which is the one that makes contact with the rim of the wheel or tire according to the needs, this configuration is available to avoid scratching the wheel and is at the far end of the center of the wave train Due to the thermoforming of the present legends and / or information can be placed (8) this does not happen with the injection machines because they are hollow which could be left without material.
- the central connector (3) is located exactly in the center of the protective cover (1), as can be seen on the inner face of the protective wheel cover (that is, the section that goes on the side of the wheel, see figure 3 ). Furthermore, said protective cover contains a radial adhesion system attached to the central connector (3) consisting of a plurality of concave valleys with a semicircular shape (10, 11, 12, 13, 14, (15 not shown)) also called concentric depressions with shape semicircular and crests with pointed tota (16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21), the above forming a wave train that allows an unbeatable splice on the surface to be covered, which have a concave molding system on its inner face in order to provide a structural force that prevents damage to or scratch the surface of the wheel, especially when extreme lashing (lashing) is applied , used for car transportation.
- a radial adhesion system attached to the central connector (3) consisting of a plurality of concave valleys with a semicircular shape (10, 11, 12, 13, 14, (15 not shown))
- the radii of the concave valleys cause the protective cover to form a protection towards the rim, as can be seen in figure 4 a semicircular section formed in turn formed by semicircular sections, in case of a blow to the rim (on deck).
- the protective cover contains the stroke in such a way that contact is only made on some of the pointed ridges (16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21) once the stroke passes, the protective cover returns to its original shape.
- the aforementioned radii of curvature are preferred in the present invention, these help to shape the wave train as can be seen in Figure 4, also this configuration gives firmness and helps to give strength and recovery of the original shape in case of blow or deformation.
- the outer face of the protective wheel cover (perspective used in the first person to attach it to the car tire) has a form of sections with valleys and abrupt ridges, which also helps the aerodynamics of the protective cover, causing vortices that give a small pressure to the wheel cover and it remains in position. Thanks to the composition of the material with which it is manufactured, it gives a perfect balance between the flexibility and rigidity necessary for permanent fixation until it is removed in its final procession.
- the concave valleys with semicircular shape (9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, (15 not shown)) from the center to the outside preferably comprise radii of 29 mm, 26 mm, 19 mm, 14 mm, 20 mm, 15 mm, 12 mm.
- the pointed crests (16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21) comprise a radius of 1 mm, which helps that if the concave valleys make contact with the wheel, they do not mistreat the river.
- the present invention has been written based on seven concave valleys with a semicircular shape, however protective covers with a smaller or greater number of valleys can be made, depending on the characteristics of the valleys and ridges with pointed shape, the protective covers created With a smaller and larger number of valleys and ridges, they would have the advantages described throughout the present description, so that with the knowledge of the present, an infinite number of covers can be made by making a universal wheel protector.
- the arrangement of valleys and ridges on the roof avoids the Bernoulli effect with the air and that the plastic roof is aerodynamic.
- FIG. 5 which shows an isometric view of a cross-section AA 'of the protective cover of the wheel (1), the modifications made can be better appreciated, where there is a piano step (22) which can vary its size depending on manufacturing requirements, and is between the central connector (3) and the wave brake.
- the central part of the end protective cover (1) comprises a flat step (22) from which a circular trapezoidal support base (23) is erected having an approximate height of between 18 to 25 mm, preferably 20mm and angle of inclination between 18 ° to 25 °, preferably 20 °, which forms a step thanks to its flat annular surface (24), whose width can vary depending on the manufacturing needs, which also serves as a stop for some wheels and from which part of a trapezoidal neck (25) having an approximate height of between 18 to 25 mm, preferably of 20 mm and inclination angle of between 8 ° to 18 °, preferably of S ° depending on the center or hollow of the rim (4); said trapezoidal neck (25) serves as the basis for a crown (26) in polygonal shape which has a rounded shape on its side that form a thread to provide greater security and a better assembly of the protective cover with the rim (2); said crown (26) has a diameter greater than the upper part of the trapezoidal neck (25) and on its surface there is
- said trapezoidal neck (25) contains spiral ribs (29) in spiral form, as does the crown (28) which is also provided with radial ribs (30) located in the intermediate part of the crown (28), which allow the central connector (3) to be screwed easily and without the need for tools or to activate additional fixing devices and likewise, unscrew for removal manually and easily. Both actions are executed in a single step (a single movement), which reduces the placement-withdrawal times by approximately half the time.
- the helical ribs (29) and the radial ribs (30) are not found in all the periphery, that is to say they are discontinuous, this has the advantage of preventing the central connector (3) from being deformed in case of an improper placement.
- the size of the central ribs is a few tenths of a millimeter to a millimeter with respect to its height with a width of no more than 5 millimeters.
- said helical ribs (29) coincide in diameter with that of the radial ribs (30), that is, they are equivalent, with which it allows a double fixation improving its grip.
- the protective plastic cover of the present invention is preferably manufactured based on PET and chemically balanced additives, thus achieving its great advantages of resistance and support at high temperatures without risk of deformation and with a concave valleys and ridges molding system with Pointy shape reinforced on its inner face, which give it the necessary strength and smoothness that prevents damage to the surface of the wheels.
- PET polyethylene terephthalate
- the PET used in the present invention has a low volatile material content, a transparent material is preferred for the present invention to avoid additional heating, the PET used in the present offers an excellent balance in flexibility and stiffness properties with good resistance to impact without sacrificing tensile properties, which has an external tolerance of ⁇ .1 mm, internal tolerance of ⁇ .05 mm and deformation temperature under load of —60 ° to 100 ° degrees Celsius.
- the optional circular perforation in the protective wheel cover allows a vehicle anchor chain to be inserted when transported by ship. Due to its constitution and its form of valleys and ridges, the rim protective cover resists the high temperatures generated ranging from 60 ° to 120 ° C, in extreme situations, generated during maneuvering of vehicles that undergo braking routines at moderate speeds but that cause the heating of the braking systems on all four wheels, this heating is invariably transmitted to the studs, masses and wheels mainly.
