組電池が有する複数の電池セルの充電率をより速やかに平準化できる充電率平準化装置、及びこの充電率平準化装置を備えた電源システムを提供する。 電源システム(1)において、制御装置(20)が、組電池(11)とは別体の補助電池(17)に接続された双方向DC-DCコンバータ(23)と、補助電池(17)の電力により電池セル(12)を充電するように、組電池(11)が有する複数の電池セル(12)のそれぞれを双方向DC-DCコンバータ(23)に選択的に接続可能なスイッチアレイ(22)と、スイッチアレイ(22)を制御して、複数の電池セル(12)のそれぞれの充電率SOCの差が小さくなるように当該複数の電池セル(12)のうちから選択された最低電圧電池セル(12L)を双方向DC-DCコンバータ(23)に接続する制御部(30)と、を有している。
Description
本発明は、組電池が備える複数の電池セルの充電率を平準化する充電率平準化装置及びそれを備えた電源システムに関する。
電動モータを用いて走行する電気自動車(EV)や、エンジンと電動モータとを併用して走行するハイブリッド自動車(HEV)などの各種車両には、電動モータの動力源として、リチウムイオン充電池やニッケル水素充電池などの二次電池からなる電池セル(単位セル)を複数有する組電池を備えた電池モジュールが搭載されている。
このような電動モータを動作させるためには大きな電力が必要となるので、電池モジュールでは、高電圧を出力可能なように複数の電池セルが直列に接続されている。このような電池モジュールの複数の電池セルは、個体差や周囲温度の偏りなどを原因として、一部の電池セルの劣化が他の電池セルに比べて早く進むことがある。そして、劣化した電池セルは、充電可能な容量(電流容量、電力容量)が減少してしまうことから、劣化の進んでいない他の電池セルの充電が満了する前に充電が満了してしまったり、他の電池セルが放電しきる前に放電しきってしまったりする。そして、電池モジュールは、その充放電について、劣化した電池セルにあわせて行われるため、劣化の進んでいない他の電池セルを十分に使い切ることができず、劣化した電池セルに合わせて電池モジュール全体の容量が実質的に減少してしまうことになる。
そこで、例えば、特許文献1に記載されている技術では、複数の電池セルのうちの任意の電池セルを選択的にインダクタに接続し、電圧の高い電池セルのエネルギーをインダクタに蓄電し、インダクタに蓄電したエネルギーを電圧の低い電池セルに移送することにより、効率よく各電池セルの電圧を均一にしている。
しかしながら、特許文献1では、インダクタを介してエネルギーを移送しているので、一度に移送できるエネルギー量が小さく、そのため、繰り返し移送動作を行う必要があり、各電池セルの状態を均一にするための動作が煩雑でかつ時間を要するという問題があった。特に、故障などにより容量が大きく減少してしまった電池セルが存在した場合、上記問題が顕著であった。
本発明は、かかる問題を解決することを目的としている。即ち、本発明は、組電池が有する複数の電池セルの充電率をより速やかに平準化できる充電率平準化装置、及びこの充電率平準化装置を備えた電源システムを提供することを目的としている。
上記目的を達成するために、本発明の第1の態様である充電率平準化装置は、組電池が有する複数の電池セルの充電率を平準化する充電率平準化装置であって、前記組電池とは別体の補助電池に接続された電池セル充電手段と、前記補助電池の電力により前記電池セルを充電するように、前記複数の電池セルのそれぞれを前記電池セル充電手段に選択的に接続可能な充電用接続切替手段と、前記充電用接続切替手段を制御して、前記複数の電池セルのそれぞれの充電率の差が小さくなるように前記複数の電池セルのうちから選択された一の電池セルを前記電池セル充電手段に接続する接続切替制御手段と、を有していることを特徴とする。
ここで、前記補助電池に接続された補助電池充電手段と、前記電池セルの電力により前記補助電池を充電するように、前記複数の電池セルのそれぞれを前記補助電池充電手段に選択的に接続可能な放電用接続切替手段と、をさらに有し、前記接続切替制御手段が、前記放電用接続切替手段をさらに制御して、前記複数の電池セルのそれぞれの充電率の差が小さくなるように前記複数の電池セルのうちから選択された一の電池セルを前記補助電池充電手段に接続するようにしてもよい。
このとき、前記複数の電池セルのうちの両電極間の電圧の最も高い最高電圧電池セル及び前記電圧の最も低い最低電圧電池セルを検出する電池セル検出手段と、前記最高電圧電池セルの充電率及び前記最低電圧電池セルの充電率を検出する充電率検出手段と、をさらに備え、前記接続切替制御手段が、前記最高電圧電池セルの充電率及び前記最低電圧電池セルの充電率の少なくとも一方が基準充電率範囲から外れかつこれら充電率の差分値が差分上限値を超えていたとき、前記放電用接続切替手段を制御して前記最高電圧電池セルを前記補助電池充電手段に接続し、前記充電用接続切替手段を制御して前記最低電圧電池セルを前記電池セル充電手段に接続するようにしてもよい。
このとき、前記電池セル検出手段が、1つの電圧検出手段と、前記複数の電池セルのそれぞれを前記電圧検出手段に選択的に接続可能な電圧検出用接続切替手段とを有し、前記電圧検出用接続切替手段が、前記複数の電池セルのそれぞれを前記補助電池充電手段にも選択的に接続可能にすることにより前記放電用接続切替手段も兼ねるように構成してもよい。
あるいは、前記複数の電池セルのうちの両電極間の電圧の最も高い最高電圧電池セル及び前記電圧の最も低い最低電圧電池セルを検出する電池セル検出手段と、前記最高電圧電池セルの充電率及び前記最低電圧電池セルの充電率を検出する充電率検出手段と、をさらに備え、前記接続切替制御手段が、前記最高電圧電池セルの充電率と前記最低電圧電池セルの充電率との差分値が差分上限値を超えていたとき、前記充電用接続切替手段を制御して前記最低電圧電池セルを前記電池セル充電手段に接続するようにしてもよい。
上記目的を達成するために、本発明の第2の態様である電源システムは、組電池と、前記組電池が備える複数の電池セルの充電率を平準化する充電率平準化装置と、を備えた電源システムであって、前記充電率平準化装置が、上記のいずれかの充電率平準化装置で構成されていることを特徴とする。
本発明の第1の態様である充電率平準化装置によれば、組電池とは別体の補助電池に接続された電池セル充電手段と、補助電池の電力により電池セルを充電するように、組電池が有する複数の電池セルのそれぞれを電池セル充電手段に選択的に接続可能な充電用接続切替手段と、充電用接続切替手段を制御して、複数の電池セルのそれぞれの充電率の差が小さくなるように当該複数の電池セルのうちから選択された一の電池セルを電池セル充電手段に接続する接続切替制御手段と、を有していることから、例えば、充電率の比較的小さい電池セルを電池セル充電手段に接続して、比較的大きな電荷を蓄えることができる補助電池の電力で当該電池セルを充電でき、即ち、複数の電池セルのそれぞれの充電率の差が小さくなるように電荷を移送することができる。そのため、一度の移送動作で大きな電荷を電池セルに移すことが可能となるので、電荷の移送動作をより少なくでき、組電池が有する複数の電池セルのそれぞれの充電率をより速やかに平準化できる。
補助電池に接続された補助電池充電手段と、電池セルの電力により補助電池を充電するように、複数の電池セルのそれぞれを補助電池充電手段に選択的に接続可能な放電用接続切替手段と、をさらに有し、接続切替制御手段が、放電用接続切替手段をさらに制御して、複数の電池セルのそれぞれの充電率の差が小さくなるように前記複数の電池セルのうちから選択された一の電池セルを前記補助電池充電手段に接続することで、例えば、充電率の比較的大きい電池セルを補助電池充電手段に接続して、比較的大きな電荷を蓄えることができる補助電池を当該電池セルの電力により充電でき、即ち、電荷を移送することができる。そのため、一度の移送動作で大きな電荷を移すことが可能となるので、電荷の移送動作をより少なくでき、組電池が有する複数の電池セルのそれぞれの充電率をより速やかに平準化できる。
複数の電池セルのうちの両電極間の電圧の最も高い最高電圧電池セル及び両電極間の電圧の最も低い最低電圧電池セルを検出する電池セル検出手段と、最高電圧電池セルの充電率及び最低電圧電池セルの充電率を検出する充電率検出手段と、をさらに備え、接続切替制御手段が、最高電圧電池セルの充電率及び最低電圧電池セルの充電率の少なくとも一方が基準充電率範囲から外れかつこれら充電率の差分値が差分上限値を超えていたとき、放電用接続切替手段を制御して最高電圧電池セルを補助電池充電手段に接続し、充電用接続切替手段を制御して最低電圧電池セルを前記電池セル充電手段に接続することで、最高電圧電池セル及び最低電圧電池セルは他の電池セルとの充電率の乖離が大きいものと考えられ、これらの間で補助電池を介して電荷を移送できるので、組電池が有する複数の電池セルのそれぞれの充電率をより一層速やかに平準化できる。
電池セル検出手段が、1つの電圧検出手段と、複数の電池セルのそれぞれを電圧検出手段に選択的に接続可能な電圧検出用接続切替手段とを有し、電圧検出用接続切替手段が、複数の電池セルのそれぞれを補助電池充電手段にも選択的に接続可能にすることにより放電用接続切替手段も兼ねるように構成することで、電圧検出用接続切替手段を放電用接続切替手段としても機能させることができるので、接続切替手段を構成する部品を減らすことができ、製造コストを低減できる。
両電極間の電圧の最も低い最低電圧電池セルは他の電池セルとの充電率の乖離が大きいものと考えられる。このため、複数の電池セルのうちの両電極間の電圧の最も高い最高電圧電池セル及び両電極間の電圧の最も低い最低電圧電池セルを検出する電池セル検出手段と、最高電圧電池セルの充電率及び最低電圧電池セルの充電率を検出する充電率検出手段と、をさらに備え、接続切替制御手段が、最高電圧電池セルの充電率と最低電圧電池セルの充電率との差分値が差分上限値を超えていたとき、充電用接続切替手段を制御して最低電圧電池セルを電池セル充電手段に接続することで、最低電圧電池セルに補助電池から電荷を移送できるので、組電池が有する複数の電池セルのそれぞれの充電率をより一層速やかに平準化できる。
本発明の第2の態様である電源システムによれば、充電率平準化装置が、上述のいずれかに記載の充電率平準化装置で構成されていることから、例えば、充電率の比較的小さい電池セルを電池セル充電手段に接続して、比較的大きな電荷を蓄えることができる補助電池の電力で当該電池セルを充電でき、即ち、複数の電池セルのそれぞれの充電率の差が小さくなるように電荷を移送することができる。そのため、一度の移送動作で大きな電荷を電池セルに移すことが可能となるので、電荷の移送動作をより少なくでき、組電池が有する複数の電池セルのそれぞれの充電率をより速やかに平準化できる。
(第1の実施形態)
以下、本発明の第1の実施形態の充電率平準化装置及びそれを備えた電源システムについて、図1~図5を参照して説明する。

図1は、本発明の第1の実施形態の電源システムの概略構成を示す図である。図2は、図1の電源システムの組電池が備える電池セルの両電極間の電圧と充電率との関係の一例を模式的に示す図である。図3は、図1の電源システムの制御装置の制御部が行う充電率平準化処理1の一例を示すフローチャートである。図4は、図1の電源システムにおける電池セルから補助電池への電荷の移送を模式的に示す図である。図5は、図1の電源システムにおける補助電池から電池セルへの電荷の移送を模式的に示す図である。
本実施形態の電源システムは、例えば、電気自動車などの車両に搭載され、当該車両の電動モータ等の高圧系電装品に電力を供給するとともに、電源システムの組電池が備える複数の電池セルの充電率を平準化(バランシング)させて、より多くの電力を出力できるようにするものである。勿論、本発明は、電気自動車などの車両以外の装置、システムなどに適用してもよい。
電池セルの充電率(SOC;State of Charge)には、蓄電可能電流容量に対する現在の蓄電電流量の割合(SOCi)や、蓄電可能電力容量に対する現在の蓄電電力量の割合(SOCp)などがあるが、いずれの充電率であってもよく、本実施形態では単に充電率(SOC)としている。また、電池セルの劣化度(SOH;State of Health)は、初期の蓄電可能容量に対する現在の蓄電可能容量の割合である。
図1に示すように、本実施形態の電源システム(図中、符号1で示す)は、電池モジュール10と、補助電池17と、充電率平準化装置としての制御装置20と、を備えている。
電池モジュール10は、組電池11と、組電池11と高圧系電装品L1との間に直列に接続された遮断機15と、を有している。組電池11は、複数の電池セル12を有しており、これら複数の電池セル12はそれぞれが直列に接続されている。電池セル12として、例えば、リチウムイオン電池やニッケル水素電池などの二次電池が用いられている。電池セル12は、単セルでもよく、または、複数の単セルが並列または直列に接続されて組み合わされたものであってもよい。
このような電池セル12は、電圧を生じる起電力部eと内部抵抗rとを有している。電池セル12は、両電極間に電圧vを生じ、この電圧vは、起電力部eによる起電力によって生じる電圧veと内部抵抗rに電流が流れることにより生じる電圧vrとによって決定される(v=ve+vr)。電池セル12は、劣化度SOHに応じて内部抵抗rが変化し、つまり、内部抵抗rによって電池セル12の劣化度SOHを推定することができる。
補助電池17は、低圧系電装品L2に電力を供給する鉛蓄電池などから構成されている。補助電池17は、後述する制御装置20にも電源を供給している。補助電池17は、鉛蓄電池以外にもリチウムイオン電池やニッケル水素電池などの二次電池を用いてもよい。
制御装置20は、セル監視ユニット21と、スイッチアレイ22と、双方向DC-DCコンバータ23と、制御部30と、を有している。
セル監視ユニット21は、例えば、複数のアナログスイッチやリレー装置などで構成され、組電池11が有する複数の電池セル12のそれぞれを選択的に後述する制御部30に接続可能に設けられている。セル監視ユニット21は、制御部30からの制御信号により接続を切り替えて、複数の電池セル12のうちの当該制御信号で指定された1つの電池セル12を制御部30に接続する。接続部30は、接続された電池セル12の両電極間の電圧を検出する。セル監視ユニット21は、電池セル検出手段の一部(即ち、電圧検出用接続切替手段)に相当する。制御部30は、電圧検出手段に相当する。
スイッチアレイ22は、例えば、複数のアナログスイッチやリレー装置などで構成され、組電池11が有する複数の電池セル12のそれぞれを選択的に後述する双方向DC-DCコンバータ23に接続可能に設けられている。スイッチアレイ22は、制御部30からの制御信号により接続を切り替えて、複数の電池セル12のうちの当該制御信号で指定された1つの電池セル12を双方向DC-DCコンバータ23に接続する。スイッチアレイ22は、電池セル12と双方向DC-DCコンバータ23との間で両方向に通電可能である。スイッチアレイ22は、充電用接続切替手段及び放電用接続切替手段に相当する。
双方向DC-DCコンバータ23は、一方の端子から入力された直流電圧を変換して他方の端子から異なる直流電圧として出力しかつ他方の端子から入力された直流電圧を変換して一方の端子から異なる直流電圧として出力する電圧変換器である。双方向DC-DCコンバータ23は、一方の端子がスイッチアレイ22を介して組電池11が有する複数の電池セル12に選択的に接続され、他方の端子が補助電池17に接続されている。双方向DC-DCコンバータ23は、電池セル12からの電力により補助電池17を充電し、補助電池17からの電力により電池セル12を充電する。本実施形態において、補助電池17は、双方向DC-DCコンバータ23と低圧系電装品L2とに接続されるものであったが、これに限定するものではない。例えば、補助電池17は、双方向DC-DCコンバータ23のみに接続されて、双方向DC-DCコンバータ23及びスイッチアレイ22を介して電池セル12との間で充電及び放電をするように構成されていてもよい。双方向DC-DCコンバータ23は、電池セル充電手段及び補助電池充電手段に相当する。
制御部30は、CPU、ROM、RAMなどを内蔵したマイクロコンピュータなどで構成されており、電源システム1全体の制御を司る。ROMには、CPUを接続切替制御手段、電池セル検出手段、充電率検出手段などの各種手段として機能させるための制御プログラムが予め記憶されている。CPUは、この制御プログラムを実行することにより上記各種手段として機能する。また、ROMには、後述する充電率平準化処理1で用いられる各種パラメータ(基準充電率範囲、差分上限値)が記憶されている。
制御部30は、複数の出力ポートを備えており、これら出力ポートは、セル監視ユニット21、スイッチアレイ22及び双方向DC-DCコンバータ23に接続されている。制御部30は、出力ポートから制御信号を出力して、セル監視ユニット21及びスイッチアレイ22の接続を切り替えたり、双方向DC-DCコンバータ23の動作を制御したりする。また、制御部30の出力ポートは、電池モジュール10の遮断機15にも接続されており、出力ポートから制御信号を出力して、遮断機15の動作を制御する。
制御部30は、入力ポートを備えており、この入力ポートはセル監視ユニット21を介して電池セル12に接続されている。制御部30は、入力ポートに入力された電圧をアナログ-デジタル変換して、当該電池セル12の両電極間の電圧を示す値を取得する。
制御部30は、他の入力ポートを備えており、この入力ポートは組電池11(即ち、電池セル12)を流れる電流に応じた電圧となる信号を出力する図示しない電流検出回路に接続されている。制御部30は、他の入力ポートに入力された信号をアナログ-デジタル変換して、電池セル12を流れる電流を示す値を取得する。
制御部30は、電池セル12の両電極間の電圧及びそのときに流れる電流を取得し、これら電圧及び電流の複数の組み合わせに基づいて、電池セル12の劣化度SOHを推定する。具体的には、電圧と電流とを互いに直交する座標とした系において、電圧及び電流の組み合わせを座標とする2点をプロットし(各組み合わせにおいて電圧が異なる)、これら2点を結ぶ直線の傾きを、内部抵抗rとして得ることができる。そして、内部抵抗rに対応するSOHの換算テーブルをあらかじめROMに記憶しておき、内部抵抗rを当該換算テーブルに当てはめることによりSOHを推定する。
制御部30は、電池セル12の両電極間の電圧に基づいて、当該電池セル12の充電率SOCを検出する。本実施形態において、電池セル12の両電極間の電圧について充電終止電圧Vthを4.0V、放電終止電圧Vtlを3.0Vとしており、これら充電終止電圧Vthと放電終止電圧Vtlとの間で電圧が充電率SOCに対して図2のグラフに示すように変化するものとしている。この電池セル12の両電極間の電圧と充電率SOCとの関係を示す充電率関係情報は、予備計測やシミュレーションなどにより予め取得して情報テーブル形式などでROMに記憶しておき、この情報テーブルに電圧を当てはめることにより充電率SOCを検出する。勿論、これは一例であって、これ以外にも、電池セル12の電圧と充電率SOCとがリニアに変化する場合などにおいては、電池セル12の電圧が4.0Vであるとき充電率SOCが100%とし、電圧が3.5Vであるとき充電率SOCが50%とし、電圧が3.0Vであるとき充電率SOCが0%としてもよい。充電率SOCを検出するときの電圧として、電池セル12の開放電圧(両電極を開放した状態(またはそれに近い状態)での当該量電極間の電圧)を用いることで、高精度で充電率SOCを検出できる。
制御部30の通信ポートは、図示しない車両内ネットワーク(例えば、CAN(Controller Area Network)など)に接続されており、当該車両内ネットワークを通じて車両のコンビネーションメータなどの表示装置に接続される。制御部30のCPUは、通信ポート及び車両内ネットワークを通じて、組電池11の状態等を表示装置に送信し、この表示装置において当該信号に基づき組電池11の状態等を表示する。
制御部30は、補助電池17の充電率も検出している。一例として、制御部30は、車両内ネットワークを通じて、補助電池17の制御を行う電子制御装置などから補助電池17の充電率を示す信号を受信することにより、当該補助電池17の充電率を検出する。
次に、上述した制御装置20の制御部30が実行する処理(充電率平準化処理1)の一例について、図3のフローチャートを参照して説明する。
ステップS110では、組電池11の複数の電池セル12のうちの両電極間の電圧が最も高い電池セル12(以下、「最高電圧電池セル12H」という)及び両電極間の電圧が最も低い電池セル12(以下、「最低電圧電池セル12L」という)を検出する。具体的には、制御部30が、セル監視ユニット21に制御信号を出力して、複数の電池セル12を順に制御部30に接続するとともに、複数の電池セル12のそれぞれの両電極間の電圧を検出する。そして、制御部30が、すべての複数の電池セル12の両電極間の電圧を検出した後、当該電圧の最も高い電池セル12を最高電圧電池セル12Hとして検出し、当該電圧の最も低い電池セル12を最低電圧電池セル12Lとして検出する。そして、ステップS120に進む。
ステップS120では、最高電圧電池セル12Hの充電率SOCH及び最低電圧電池セル12Lの充電率SOCLを検出する。具体的には、制御部30が、最高電圧電池セル12Hの両電極間の電圧に基づいて、その充電率SOCHを検出し、同様に、最低電圧電池セル12Lの電圧に基づいて、その充電率SOCLを検出する。そして、ステップS130に進む。
ステップS130では、制御部30が、最高電圧電池セル12Hの充電率SOCH及び最低電圧電池セル12Lの充電率SOCLの少なくとも一方が、基準充電率範囲から外れているか否かを判定する。本実施形態において、基準充電率範囲は、一例として、上限が90%で下限が10%に設定されている。そして、充電率SOCH及び充電率SOCLの少なくとも一方が、基準充電率範囲から外れていると、ステップS140に進み(S130でY)、これら充電率SOCH及び充電率SOCLが共に基準充電率範囲内にあると、ステップS110に戻る(S130でN)。
ステップS140では、制御部30が、充電率SOCHと充電率SOCLとの差分値ΔSOCが、差分上限値を超えているか否かを判定する。本実施形態において、差分上限値は、一例として、2%に設定されている。そして、差分値ΔSOCが差分上限値を超えていると、ステップS150に進み(S140でY)、差分値ΔSOCが差分上限値以下だと、ステップS110に戻る(S140でN)。
ステップS150では、制御部30が、スイッチアレイ22に制御信号を出力して、最高電圧電池セル12Hを双方向DC-DCコンバータ23に接続する。そして、ステップS160に進む。
ステップS160では、制御部30が、双方向DC-DCコンバータ23に制御信号を出力して、最高電圧電池セル12Hの電力により補助電池17を充電するように双方向DC-DCコンバータ23を動作させる。そして、ステップS170に進む。
ステップS170では、補助電池17を所定量充電したか否かを判定する。具体的には、制御部30が、セル監視ユニット21に制御信号を出力して、最高電圧電池セル12Hを制御部30に接続するとともに、最高電圧電池セル12Hの両電極間の電圧を検出し、この電圧に基づいて最高電圧電池セル12Hの充電率SOCHを検出する。そして、制御部30が、この充電率SOCHが充電開始から所定値分(例えば、2%)減少したか否かを判定して、所定値分減少していなかったら、補助電池17を所定量充電していないものとして判定を繰り返し(S170でN)、所定値分減少していたら、補助電池17を所定量充電したものと判定してステップS180に進む。(S170でY)。なお、ステップS170では、制御部30は、補助電池17の充電率も検出しており、補助電池17の充電率が増加して100%に達した場合も、補助電池17の充電を停止すべく、ステップS180に進む。
ステップS180では、制御部30が、双方向DC-DCコンバータ23に制御信号を出力して、双方向DC-DCコンバータ23を停止させる。そして、ステップS190に進む。
ステップS190では、制御部30が、スイッチアレイ22に制御信号を出力して、最低電圧電池セル12Lを双方向DC-DCコンバータ23に接続する。そして、ステップS200に進む。
ステップS200では、制御部30が、双方向DC-DCコンバータ23に制御信号を出力して、補助電池17の電力により最低電圧電池セル12Lを充電するように双方向DC-DCコンバータ23を動作させる。そして、ステップS210に進む。
ステップS210では、最低電圧電池セル12Lを所定量充電したか否かを判定する。具体的には、制御部30が、セル監視ユニット21に制御信号を出力して、最低電圧電池セル12Lを制御部30に接続するとともに、最低電圧電池セル12Lの両電極間の電圧を検出し、この電圧に基づいて最低電圧電池セル12Lの充電率SOCLを検出する。そして、制御部30が、この充電率SOCLが充電開始から所定値分(例えば、2%)増加したか否かを判定して、所定値分増加していなかったら、最低電圧電池セル12Lを所定量充電していないものとして判定を繰り返し(S210でN)、所定値分増加していたら、最低電圧電池セル12Lを所定量充電したものと判定してステップS220に進む(S210でY)。なお、ステップS210では、制御部30は、補助電池17の充電率も検出しており、補助電池17の充電率が減少して所定の下限値(例えば90%)に達した場合も、最低電圧電池セル12Lの充電を停止すべく、ステップS220に進む。
ステップS220では、制御部30が、双方向DC-DCコンバータ23に制御信号を出力して、双方向DC-DCコンバータ23を停止させる。そして、再度、充電率平準化処理1を実行するため、ステップS110に戻る。
制御部30が、上述したステップS110を実行することでセル監視ユニットとともに電池セル検出手段として機能し、上述したステップS120を実行することで充電率検出手段として機能し、上述したステップS150及びS190を実行することで接続切替制御手段として機能する。
次に、上述した電源システム1(制御装置20)の動作の一例について説明する。
制御装置20は、電池モジュール10の組電池11が有する複数の電池セル12のそれぞれの両電極間の電圧を検出し、この電圧の最も高い最高電圧電池セル12Hの充電率SOCH及びこの電圧の最も低い最低電圧電池セル12Lの充電率SOCLを検出する(S110、S120)。
そして、例えば、充電率SOCHが91%でかつ充電率SOCLが87%だったとき、充電率SOCHが基準充電率範囲を外れており(S130でY)、充電率SOCHと充電率SOCLとの差分値が差分上限値を超えているので(S140でY)、最高電圧電池セル12Hの電力により補助電池17を充電して充電率SOCHを減少させ(91%→89%)(S150~S180、図4)、そのあと、補助電池17の電力により最低電圧電池セル12Lを充電して充電率SOCLを増加させる(87%→89%)(S190~S220、図5)。
または、例えば、充電率SOCHが13%でかつ充電率SOCLが9%だったとき、充電率SOCLが基準充電率範囲を外れており(S130でY)、充電率SOCHと充電率SOCLとの差分値が差分上限値を超えているので(S140でY)、最高電圧電池セル12Hの電力により補助電池17を充電して充電率SOCHを減少させ(13%→11%)(S150~S180、図4)、そのあと、補助電池17の電力により最低電圧電池セル12Lを充電して充電率SOCLを増加させる(9%→11%)(S190~S220、図5)。
このようにすることで、組電池11が有する複数の電池セル12の充電率を平準化できる。
以上より、本実施形態によれば、制御装置20が、組電池11とは別体の補助電池17に接続された双方向DC-DCコンバータ23と、補助電池17の電力により電池セル12を充電するように、組電池11が有する複数の電池セル12のそれぞれを双方向DC-DCコンバータ23に選択的に接続可能なスイッチアレイ22と、スイッチアレイ22を制御して、複数の電池セル12のそれぞれの充電率SOCの差が小さくなるように当該複数の電池セル12のうちから選択された最低電圧電池セル12Lを双方向DC-DCコンバータ23に接続する制御部30と、を有している。このようにしたことから、充電率SOCの比較的小さい最低電圧電池セル12Lを双方向DC-DCコンバータ23に接続して、比較的大きな電荷を蓄えることができる補助電池17の電力で当該最低電圧電池セル12Lを充電でき、即ち、複数の電池セル12のそれぞれの充電率SOCの差が小さくなるように電荷を移送することができる。そのため、一度の移送動作で大きな電荷を電池セル12に移すことが可能となるので、電荷の移送動作をより少なくでき、組電池11が有する複数の電池セル12のそれぞれの充電率SOCをより速やかに平準化できる。
また、制御装置20が、補助電池17に接続された双方向DC-DCコンバータ23と、電池セル12の電力により補助電池17を充電するように、複数の電池セル12のそれぞれを双方向DC-DCコンバータ23に選択的に接続可能なスイッチアレイ22と、を有している。そして、制御部30が、スイッチアレイ22を制御して、複数の電池セル12のそれぞれの充電率SOCの差が小さくなるように複数の電池セル12のうちから選択された最高電圧電池セル12Hを双方向DC-DCコンバータ23に接続する。このようにしたことから、充電率SOCの比較的大きい最高電圧電池セル12Hを双方向DC-DCコンバータ23に接続して、比較的大きな電荷を蓄えることができる補助電池17を当該最高電圧電池セル12Hの電力により充電でき、即ち、電荷を移送することができる。そのため、一度の移送動作で大きな電荷を移すことが可能となるので、電荷の移送動作をより少なくでき、組電池11が有する複数の電池セル12のそれぞれの充電率SOCをより速やかに平準化できる。
また、制御装置20の制御部30が、複数の電池セル12のうちの両電極間の電圧の最も高い最高電圧電池セル12H及び両電極間の電圧の最も低い最低電圧電池セル12Lを検出するとともに、最高電圧電池セル12Hの充電率SOCH及び最低電圧電池セル12Lの充電率SOCLを検出する。そして、制御装置20の制御部30が、最高電圧電池セル12Hの充電率SOCH及び最低電圧電池セル12Lの充電率SOCLの少なくとも一方が基準充電率範囲から外れかつこれら充電率SOCH及び充電率SOCLの差分値ΔSOCが差分上限値を超えていたとき、スイッチアレイ22を制御して最高電圧電池セル12Hを双方向DC-DCコンバータ23に接続し、その後、スイッチアレイ22を制御して最低電圧電池セル12Lを双方向DC-DCコンバータ23に接続する。このようにしたことから、最高電圧電池セル12H及び最低電圧電池セル12Lは他の電池セル12との充電率の乖離が大きいものと考えられ、これらの間で補助電池17を介して電荷を移送できるので、組電池11が有する複数の電池セル12のそれぞれの充電率SOCをより一層速やかに平準化できる。
また、上述した実施形態において、複数の電池セル12のそれぞれを選択的に制御部30に接続可能なセル監視ユニット21と、複数の電池セル12のそれぞれを選択的に双方向DC-DCコンバータ23に接続可能なスイッチアレイ22と、を別々に設けていたが、これに限定されるものでなく、例えば、セル監視ユニット21(即ち、それを構成するアナログスイッチやリレー装置など)の電流容量を拡大して、複数の電池セル12のそれぞれを選択的に制御部30に接続可能とすると同時に、双方向DC-DCコンバータ23に接続可能にして、セル監視ユニット21がスイッチアレイ22の機能を兼ねるようにしてもよい。このようにすることで、制御装置20を構成する部品を減らすことができ、製造コストを低減できる。
(第2の実施形態)
以下、本発明の第2の実施形態の充電率平準化装置及びそれを備えた電源システムについて、図6~図8を参照して説明する。

図6は、本発明の第2の実施形態の電源システムの概略構成を示す図である。図7は、図6の電源システムの制御装置の制御部が行う充電率平準化処理2の一例を示すフローチャートである。図8は、図6の電源システムにおける補助電池から電池セルへの電荷の移送を模式的に示す図である。
本実施形態の電源システムは、上述した第1の実施形態の電源システムと同様に、例えば、電気自動車などの車両に搭載され、当該車両の電動モータ等の高圧系電装品に電力を供給するとともに、電源システムの組電池が備える複数の電池セルの充電率を平準化させて、より多くの電力を出力できるようにするものである。勿論、本発明は、電気自動車などの車両以外の装置、システムなどに適用してもよい。
図6に示すように、本実施形態の電源システム(図中、符号2で示す)は、電池モジュール10と、補助電池17と、オルタネータ18と、充電率平準化装置としての制御装置20Aと、を備えている。この電源システム2は、上述した第1の実施形態の電源システム1において、オルタネータ18を追加するとともに、制御装置20に代えて制御装置20Aを備えていること以外は、電源システム1と同一の構成である。よって、第1の実施形態の電源システム1と同一の構成要素については、同一の符号を付して説明を省略する。
オルタネータ18は、車両のエンジンなどの動力により電力を生成する発電機である。オルタネータ18は、補助電池17に接続されて、当該補助電池17を充電する。
制御装置20Aは、セル監視ユニット21と、スイッチアレイ22と、DC-DCコンバータ23Aと、制御部30Aと、を有している。
DC-DCコンバータ23Aは、一方の端子から入力された直流電圧を変換して他方の端子から異なる直流電圧として出力する電圧変換器である。DC-DCコンバータ23Aは、他方の端子がスイッチアレイ22を介して組電池11が有する複数の電池セル12に選択的に接続され、一方の端子が補助電池17に接続されている。DC-DCコンバータ23は、補助電池17からの電力により電池セル12を充電する。DC-DCコンバータ23は、電池セル充電手段に相当する。
制御部30Aは、CPU、ROM、RAMなどを内蔵したマイクロコンピュータなどで構成されており、電源システム2全体の制御を司る。ROMには、CPUを接続切替制御手段、電池セル検出手段、充電率検出手段などの各種手段として機能させるための制御プログラムが予め記憶されている。CPUは、この制御プログラムを実行することにより上記各種手段として機能する。また、ROMには、後述する充電率平準化処理1で用いられる各種パラメータ(基準充電率範囲、差分上限値)が記憶されている。
制御部30Aは、複数の出力ポートを備えており、これら出力ポートは、セル監視ユニット21、スイッチアレイ22及びDC-DCコンバータ23Aに接続されている。制御部30Aは、出力ポートから制御信号を出力して、セル監視ユニット21及びスイッチアレイ22の接続を切り替えたり、DC-DCコンバータ23Aの動作を制御したりする。また、制御部30Aの出力ポートは、電池モジュール10の遮断機15にも接続されており、出力ポートから制御信号を出力して、遮断機15の動作を制御する。
制御部30Aは、入力ポートを備えており、この入力ポートはセル監視ユニット21を介して電池セル12に接続されている。制御部30Aは、入力ポートに入力された電圧をアナログ-デジタル変換して、当該電池セル12の両電極間の電圧を示す値を取得する。
制御部30Aは、他の入力ポートを備えており、この入力ポートは組電池11(即ち、電池セル12)を流れる電流に応じた電圧となる信号を出力する図示しない電流検出回路に接続されている。制御部30Aは、他の入力ポートに入力された信号をアナログ-デジタル変換して、電池セル12を流れる電流を示す値を取得する。
制御部30Aは、電池セル12の両電極間の電圧及びそのときに流れる電流を取得し、これら電圧及び電流の複数の組み合わせに基づいて、電池セル12の劣化度SOHを推定する。具体的には、電圧と電流とを互いに直交する座標とした系において、電圧及び電流の組み合わせを座標とする2点をプロットし(各組み合わせにおいて電圧が異なる)、これら2点を結ぶ直線の傾きを、内部抵抗rとして得ることができる。そして、内部抵抗rに対応するSOHの換算テーブルをあらかじめROMに記憶しておき、内部抵抗rを当該換算テーブルに当てはめることによりSOHを推定する。
制御部30Aは、電池セル12の両電極間の電圧に基づいて、当該電池セル12の充電率SOCを検出する。本実施形態において、電池セル12の両電極間の電圧について充電終止電圧Vthを4.0V、放電終止電圧Vtlを3.0Vとしており、これら充電終止電圧Vthと放電終止電圧Vtlとの間で上記電圧が充電率SOCに対してリニアに変化するものとしている。即ち、電池セル12の両電極間の電圧が4.0Vであるとき充電率SOCが100%となり、当該電圧が3.5Vであるとき充電率SOCが50%となり、当該電圧が3.0Vであるとき充電率SOCが0%となる。勿論、これは一例であって、これ以外にも、例えば、図2に示すように、電池セル12の両電極間の電圧と充電率SOCとがリニアに変化しない場合などにおいては、予備計測やシミュレーションなどにより当該電圧と充電率SOCとの関係に関するテーブルなどの充電率関係情報を予め作成してROMに記憶しておき、この充電率関係情報に検出した電圧を当てはめることにより充電率SOCを検出するようにしてもよい。
制御部30Aの通信ポートは、図示しない車両内ネットワーク(例えば、CAN(Controller Area Network)など)に接続されており、当該車両内ネットワークを通じて車両のコンビネーションメータなどの表示装置に接続される。制御部30AのCPUは、通信ポート及び車両内ネットワークを通じて、組電池11の状態等を表示装置に送信し、この表示装置において当該信号に基づき組電池11の状態等を表示する。
制御部30Aは、補助電池17の充電率も検出している。一例として、制御部30Aは、車両内ネットワークを通じて、補助電池17の制御を行う電子制御装置などから補助電池17の充電率を示す信号を受信することにより、当該補助電池17の充電率を検出する。
次に、上述した制御装置20Aの制御部30Aが実行する処理(充電率平準化処理2)の一例について、図7のフローチャートを参照して説明する。
ステップT110では、組電池11の複数の電池セル12のうちの両電極間の電圧が最も高い電池セル12(以下、「最高電圧電池セル12H」という)及び両電極間の電圧が最も低い電池セル12(以下、「最低電圧電池セル12L」という)を検出する。具体的には、制御部30Aが、セル監視ユニット21に制御信号を出力して、複数の電池セル12を順に制御部30Aに接続するとともに、複数の電池セル12のそれぞれの両電極間の電圧を検出する。そして、制御部30Aが、すべての複数の電池セル12の両電極間の電圧を検出した後、当該電圧の最も高い電池セル12を最高電圧電池セル12Hとして検出し、当該電圧の最も低い電池セル12を最低電圧電池セル12Lとして検出する。そして、ステップT120に進む。
ステップT120では、最高電圧電池セル12Hの充電率SOCH及び最低電圧電池セル12Lの充電率SOCLを検出する。具体的には、制御部30Aが、最高電圧電池セル12Hの両電極間の電圧に基づいて、その充電率SOCHを検出し、同様に、最低電圧電池セル12Lの電圧に基づいて、その充電率SOCLを検出する。そして、ステップT130に進む。
ステップT130では、制御部30Aが、充電率SOCHと充電率SOCLとの差分値ΔSOCが、差分上限値を超えているか否かを判定する。本実施形態において、差分上限値は、一例として、2%に設定されている。そして、差分値ΔSOCが差分上限値を超えていると、ステップT140に進み(T130でY)、差分値ΔSOCが差分上限値以下だと、ステップT110に戻る(T130でN)。
ステップT140では、制御部30Aが、スイッチアレイ22に制御信号を出力して、最低電圧電池セル12LをDC-DCコンバータ23Aに接続する。そして、ステップT150に進む。
ステップT150では、制御部30Aが、DC-DCコンバータ23Aに制御信号を出力して、補助電池17の電力により最低電圧電池セル12Lを充電するようにDC-DCコンバータ23Aを動作させる。そして、ステップT160に進む。
ステップT160では、最低電圧電池セル12Lを所定量充電したか否かを判定する。具体的には、制御部30Aが、セル監視ユニット21に制御信号を出力して、最低電圧電池セル12Lを制御部30Aに接続するとともに、最低電圧電池セル12Lの両電極間の電圧を検出し、この電圧に基づいて最低電圧電池セル12Lの充電率SOCLを検出する。そして、制御部30Aが、この充電率SOCLが充電開始から所定値分(例えば、2%)増加したか否かを判定して、所定値分増加していなかったら、最低電圧電池セル12Lを所定量充電していないものとして判定を繰り返し(T160でN)、所定値分増加していたら、最低電圧電池セル12Lを所定量充電したものと判定してステップT170に進む。(T160でY)。なお、ステップT160では、制御部30Aは、補助電池17の充電率も検出しており、補助電池17の充電率が減少して0%に達した場合も、最低電圧電池セル12Lの充電を停止すべく、ステップT170に進む。
ステップT170では、制御部30Aが、DC-DCコンバータ23Aに制御信号を出力して、DC-DCコンバータ23Aを停止させる。そして、再度、充電率平準化処理2を実行するため、ステップT110に戻る。
制御部30が、上述したステップT110を実行することで電池セル検出手段として機能し、上述したステップT120を実行することで充電率検出手段として機能し、上述したステップT140を実行することで接続切替制御手段として機能する。
次に、上述した電源システム2(制御装置20A)の動作の一例について説明する。
制御装置20Aは、電池モジュール10の組電池11が有する複数の電池セル12のそれぞれの両電極間の電圧を検出し、この電圧の最も高い最高電圧電池セル12Hの充電率SOCH及びこの電圧の最も低い最低電圧電池セル12Lの充電率SOCLを検出する(T110、T120)。
そして、例えば、充電率SOCHが82%でかつ充電率SOCLが79%だったとき、充電率SOCHと充電率SOCLとの差分値が差分上限値を超えているので(T130でY)、補助電池17の電力により最低電圧電池セル12Lを充電して充電率SOCLを増加させる(79%→81%)(T140~T170、図7)。
または、例えば、充電率SOCHが27%でかつ充電率SOCLが24%だったとき、充電率SOCHと充電率SOCLとの差分値が差分上限値を超えているので(T130でY)、補助電池17の電力により最低電圧電池セル12Lを充電して充電率SOCLを増加させる(24%→26%)(T140~T170、図7)。
このようにすることで、組電池11が有する複数の電池セル12の充電率を平準化できる。
以上より、本実施形態によれば、制御装置20Aが、組電池11とは別体の補助電池17に接続されたDC-DCコンバータ23Aと、補助電池17の電力により電池セル12を充電するように、組電池11が有する複数の電池セル12のそれぞれをDC-DCコンバータ23Aに選択的に接続可能なスイッチアレイ22と、スイッチアレイ22を制御して、複数の電池セル12のそれぞれの充電率SOCの差が小さくなるように当該複数の電池セル12のうちから選択された最低電圧電池セル12LをDC-DCコンバータ23Aに接続する制御部30と、を有している。このようにしたことから、充電率SOCの比較的小さい最低電圧電池セル12LをDC-DCコンバータ23Aに接続して、比較的大きな電荷を蓄えることができる補助電池17の電力で当該最低電圧電池セル12Lを充電でき、即ち、複数の電池セル12のそれぞれの充電率SOCの差が小さくなるように電荷を移送することができる。そのため、一度の移送動作で大きな電荷を電池セル12に移すことが可能となるので、電荷の移送動作をより少なくでき、組電池11が有する複数の電池セル12のそれぞれの充電率SOCをより速やかに平準化できる。
また、制御装置20Aの制御部30Aが、複数の電池セル12のうちの両電極間の電圧の最も高い最高電圧電池セル12H及び両電極間の電圧の最も低い最低電圧電池セル12Lを検出するとともに、最高電圧電池セル12Hの充電率SOCH及び最低電圧電池セル12Lの充電率SOCLを検出する。そして、制御装置20Aの制御部30Aが、最高電圧電池セル12Hの充電率SOCHと最低電圧電池セル12Lの充電率SOCLとの差分値ΔSOCが差分上限値を超えていたとき、スイッチアレイ22を制御して最低電圧電池セル12LをDC-DCコンバータ23Aに接続する。このようにしたことから、両電極間の電圧の最も低い最低電圧電池セル12Lは他の電池セル12との充電率SOCの乖離が大きいものと考えられ、このような最低電圧電池セル12Lに補助電池17から電荷を移送できるので、組電池11が有する複数の電池セル12のそれぞれの充電率SOCをより一層速やかに平準化できる。
以上、本発明について、好ましい実施形態を挙げて説明したが、本発明の充電率平準化装置及び電源システムはこれらの実施形態の構成に限定されるものではない。
例えば、上述した第1の実施形態では、最高電圧電池セル12Hの電荷を補助電池17に移送(即ち、最高電圧電池セル12Hの電力により補助電池17を充電)したのち、補助電池17の電荷を最低電圧電池セル12Lに移送(即ち、補助電池17の電力により最低電圧電池セル12Lを充電)する構成であったが、これに限定されるものではない。例えば、比較的充電率の高い複数の電池セル12の電荷を順次補助電池17に移送し、補助電池17の電荷を比較的充電率の低い複数の電池セル12に順次移送する構成であってもよい。
また、上述した第2の実施形態では、補助電池17の電荷を最低電圧電池セル12Lに移送(即ち、補助電池17の電力により最低電圧電池セル12Lを充電)するものであったが、これに限定されるものではない。例えば、最高電圧電池セル12Hを除く他の複数の電池セル12のそれぞれについて、最高電圧電池セル12Hの充電率と同一の充電率となるまで、順次補助電池17の電荷を移送する構成であってもよい。
また、上述した第1の実施形態では、最高電圧電池セル12Hの電荷を補助電池17に移送する動作、及び、補助電池17の電荷を最低電圧電池セル12Lに移送する動作を排他的に行う構成であったが、これに限定されるものではない。例えば、双方向DC-DCコンバータ23に代えて、電池セル12の電力により補助電池17を充電(電荷の移送)する放電用DC-DCコンバータ及び補助電池17の電力により電池セル12を充電する充電用DC-DCコンバータを設けて、上記各動作を同時に行う構成としてもよい。
なお、前述した実施形態は本発明の代表的な形態を示したに過ぎず、本発明は、実施形態に限定されるものではない。即ち、当業者は、従来公知の知見に従い、本発明の骨子を逸脱しない範囲で種々変形して実施することができる。かかる変形によってもなお本発明の充電率平準化装置及び電源システムの構成を具備する限り、勿論、本発明の範疇に含まれるものである。

- 組電池が有する複数の電池セルの充電率を平準化する充電率平準化装置であって、
前記組電池とは別体の補助電池に接続された電池セル充電手段と、
前記補助電池の電力により前記電池セルを充電するように、前記複数の電池セルのそれぞれを前記電池セル充電手段に選択的に接続可能な充電用接続切替手段と、
前記充電用接続切替手段を制御して、前記複数の電池セルのそれぞれの充電率の差が小さくなるように前記複数の電池セルのうちから選択された一の電池セルを前記電池セル充電手段に接続する接続切替制御手段と、を有していることを特徴とする充電率平準化装置。 - 前記補助電池に接続された補助電池充電手段と、

前記接続切替制御手段が、前記最高電圧電池セルの充電率及び前記最低電圧電池セルの充電率の少なくとも一方が基準充電率範囲から外れかつこれら充電率の差分値が差分上限値を超えていたとき、前記放電用接続切替手段を制御して前記最高電圧電池セルを前記補助電池充電手段に接続し、前記充電用接続切替手段を制御して前記最低電圧電池セルを前記電池セル充電手段に接続することを特徴とする請求項2に記載の充電率平準化装置。 - 前記電池セル検出手段が、1つの電圧検出手段と、前記複数の電池セルのそれぞれを前記電圧検出手段に選択的に接続可能な電圧検出用接続切替手段とを有し、
前記電圧検出用接続切替手段が、前記複数の電池セルのそれぞれを前記補助電池充電手段にも選択的に接続可能にすることにより前記放電用接続切替手段も兼ねるように構成されていることを特徴とする請求項3に記載の充電率平準化装置。 - 前記複数の電池セルのうちの両電極間の電圧の最も高い最高電圧電池セル及び前記電圧の最も低い最低電圧電池セルを検出する電池セル検出手段と、
前記最高電圧電池セルの充電率及び前記最低電圧電池セルの充電率を検出する充電率検出手段と、をさらに備え、
前記接続切替制御手段が、前記最高電圧電池セルの充電率と前記最低電圧電池セルの充電率との差分値が差分上限値を超えていたとき、前記充電用接続切替手段を制御して前記最低電圧電池セルを前記電池セル充電手段に接続することを特徴とする請求項1に記載の充電率平準化装置。 - 組電池と、前記組電池が備える複数の電池セルの充電率を平準化する充電率平準化装置と、を備えた電源システムであって、
前記充電率平準化装置が、請求項1~5のいずれか一項に記載の充電率平準化装置で構成されていることを特徴とする電源システム。
