Abstract

 振動発電素子(1)は、固定電極(11)と、固定電極(11)に対して対向配置され、固定電極(11)に対して移動可能な可動電極(12)と、対向配置された固定電極(11)と可動電極(12)との間に介在するように設けられたイオン液体(13)と、を備え、外部からの振動による可動電極(12)の移動により、固定電極(11)とイオン液体(13)との界面を挟んで形成される電気二重層(16a)、および可動電極(12)とイオン液体(13)との界面を挟んで形成される電気二重層(16b)の、少なくとも一方の面積が変化することによって発電を行う。

Description

振動発電素子
 本発明は、イオン液体を用いた振動発電素子に関する。
 従来、環境中の振動により発電するデバイス(エナジーハーベスター)として、エレクトレットを用いるのが有効であり、多くの研究、開発がされている。振動発電デバイスは、自立型の各種センサの電源として、また、その自立型センサ信号の無線通信用デバイスの電源として利用することが主な目的であるため、小型で、かつ大きな発電量(μW~mWレンジ)が必要とされる。例えば、特許文献1に記載の振動発電素子では、エレクトレットが形成された電極に対して振動電極を振動させることにより、発電を行う構成としている。

 しかしながら、上述した振動発電素子では電極間距離がμmオーダーであるため、エレクトレットを使用した場合であっても発電量が小さく、デバイスサイズの小型化、発電量の向上に対して課題となっていた。
 本発明の第1の態様によると、振動発電素子は、固定電極と、固定電極に対して対向配置され、固定電極に対して移動可能な可動電極と、対向配置された固定電極と可動電極との間に介在するように設けられたイオン液体と、を備え、外部からの振動による可動電極の移動により、固定電極とイオン液体との界面を挟んで形成される電気二重層、および可動電極とイオン液体との界面を挟んで形成される電気二重層の、少なくとも一方の面積が変化することによって発電を行う。
 本発明の第2の態様によると、第1の態様の振動発電素子において、可動電極は、固定電極との間隔が変化する方向に移動可能であり、外部からの振動による可動電極の移動により、固定電極とイオン液体との界面を挟んで形成される電気二重層、および可動電極とイオン液体との界面を挟んで形成される電気二重層の面積がそれぞれ変化することが好ましい。
 本発明の第3の態様によると、第2の態様の振動発電素子において、互いに対向する固定電極および可動電極の一方はエレクトレット電極であり、エレクトレット電極の表面電位はイオン液体の電位窓の範囲内に設定されていることが好ましい。
 本発明の第4の態様によると、第2の態様の振動発電素子において、電気二重層は、固定電極および可動電極とイオン液体との接触領域に生じる界面動電現象により形成されたものであることが好ましい。
 本発明の第5の態様によると、第2乃至4のいずれか一態様の振動発電素子において、可動電極は、該可動電極の表面側に設けられた表面側電極と、可動電極の裏面側に設けられた裏面側電極とを有し、固定電極は、表面側電極に対して対向配置された第1電極と裏面側電極に対して対向配置された第2電極とを有し、イオン液体は、第1電極と表面側電極との間、および、第2電極と裏面側電極との間にそれぞれ介在するように設けられていることが好ましい。
 本発明の第6の態様によると、第1の態様の振動発電素子において、可動電極は、固定電極との間隔を一定に保持した状態でスライド移動可能であり、外部からの振動による可動電極のスライド移動により、可動電極とイオン液体との界面を挟んで形成される電気二重層の面積が変化することが好ましい。
 本発明の第7の態様によると、第6の態様の振動発電素子において、可動電極は、可動基板と、可動基板の固定電極と対向する面に設けられ、表面電位がイオン液体の電位窓の範囲内に設定されているエレクトレット電極とを有し、可動電極のスライド移動により、エレクトレット電極とイオン液体との界面を挟んで形成される電気二重層の面積が変化することが好ましい。
 本発明の第8の態様によると、第7の態様の振動発電素子において、可動電極は、可動基板の表面に設けられた第1エレクトレット電極と、可動基板の裏面に設けられた第2エレクトレット電極とを有し、固定電極は、可動基板の表面に対して対向配置された第1電極と可動基板の裏面に対して対向配置された第2電極とを有し、イオン液体は、第1電極と可動基板の表面との間、および、第2電極と可動基板の裏面との間にそれぞれ介在するように設けられていることが好ましい。
 本発明によれば、振動発電素子の小型化および発電量向上を図ることができる。

-第1の実施の形態-
 図1は、本発明による振動発電素子の第1の実施の形態を説明する図である。図1(a)は振動発電素子1の断面図であり、図1(b)は図1(a)のA-A断面図である。振動発電素子1は、固定電極11と可動基板12とイオン液体13(ionic liquid)とを備えている。イオン液体13は、固定電極11と可動基板12との間に介在するように設けられている。固定電極11は振動発電素子1に設けられた容器の底板を兼ねており、この固定電極11と絶縁材料で形成された円筒部2および天板3とで容器が構成されている。
 上述した可動基板12とイオン液体13は容器内に納められている。可動基板12は図1(a)において上下方向に移動可能に設けられており、リング状のストッパ4a,4bにより上下方向の可動範囲Lが規定されている。容器内の気体は可動基板12の移動に対して妨げとなるので、容器内は真空状態に保たれているのが好ましい。円板状の可動基板12は、支持基板121と、支持基板121の下面(固定電極11に対向する面)に設けられたエレクトレット122とを備えている。
 エレクトレット122は、例えば、ポリプロピレン(PP)やポリテトラフルオロエチレン(PTFE)等の誘電体膜にコロナ放電等によりプラス電荷(またはマイナス電荷)を帯電させてエレクトレット化したものである。すなわち、エレクトレット122が形成された可動基板12は可動電極として機能する。
 一方、固定電極11のイオン液体13と接触する面は撥水性に優れているのが好ましく、例えば、電極材料として金(Au)を用いるのが好ましい。また、可動基板12が上下動した際の摺動面である円筒部内面と支持基板121の外周面には、摩擦係数の低い材料(例えば、PTFE等)を形成するのが好ましい。
 可動基板12と固定電極11との間に設けられたイオン液体13は、エレクトレット122と固定電極11とに接触している。本実施形態では、エレクトレット122はプラスに帯電しており、イオン液体13のマイナスイオンがエレクトレット方向に移動し、プラスイオンが固定電極11方向に移動する。その結果、エレクトレット122とイオン液体13との界面を挟んで電気二重層16bが形成され、固定電極11とイオン液体13との界面を挟んで電気二重層16aが形成される。イオン液体13には種々のものを使用することができるが、本実施の形態では、一例として1-エチル-3-メチルイミダゾリウムテトラフルオロ硼酸塩を使用している。
 図2は、振動発電素子1の要部を示す模式図である。負荷14は固定電極11に接続されている。可動基板12の電位は、固定電極11に対してエレクトレット電圧(エレクトレット122の表面電位)だけ高くなっている。イオン液体13はプラスイオンとマイナスイオンのみから成る有機液体の一種であり、常温では蒸気圧が非常に低くほとんど蒸発しない。また、粘性は、30~500[Pa・s]程度である。イオン液体13はイオンのみから構成されるので良伝導性であるが、電位窓が広く電気的安定性が高い。電位窓とは、電解液中で実質的に電流が流れない電位領域のことであり、上述したイオン液体13では±1~3[V]程度の電位窓を有する。
 上述したエレクトレット122の電圧(表面電位)は、イオン液体13の電位窓の範囲内で設定される。なお、振動発電素子の発電能力の点から、エレクトレット122の電圧は、電位窓の範囲内において可能な限り大きな値に設定するのが好ましい。以下では、エレクトレット122によってイオン液体13に印加される電圧を、バイアス電圧と呼ぶことにする。
 エレクトレット122と固定電極11との間に設けられたイオン液体13のマイナスイオンは、エレクトレット122によって形成される電場によってエレクトレット122の方向に引き寄せられる。その結果、上述したようにエレクトレット122とイオン液体13との界面を挟んで電気二重層16bが形成される。一方、固定電極11とイオン液体13との接触領域においては、イオン液体13のプラスイオンが固定電極11側に移動し、そのプラスイオンと固定電極11側に静電誘導されたマイナス電荷とにより電気二重層16aが形成される。イオン液体13の種類にも依存するが、電気二重層の厚さは1[nm]程度である。また、電気二重層に交流電圧を印加した際の静電容量は、一般に、実験上0.1Hz~1MHzの範囲において10[μF/cm]~0.2[μF/cm]程度であることが知られている。
 図1に示すように、振動発電素子1の可動基板12は、固定電極11と可動基板12との間隔dが変化する方向に移動可能に構成されている。外部からの振動(以下、外乱と呼ぶ)により振動発電素子1の容器が振動すると(特に、軸方向に振動すると)、固定電極11に対して可動基板12が図示上下方向に振動する。例えば、後述する図3のように、可動基板12は間隔dがd0~d0/2の範囲で上下動することができる。この可動範囲は、図1に示したストッパ4a,4bの位置によって設定することができる。
 次に、振動発電素子1の動作について説明する。従来の振動発電素子は、電極間(例えば、金属電極とエレクトレット電極との間)の静電容量の変化を利用するものであるが、本実施の形態の振動発電素子1は、可動基板12の振動によるイオン液体13の接触面積変化(すなわち、電気二重層の面積変化)によって発電を行うところに特徴がある。
 電気二重層の単位面積当たりの静電容量は上述したようにバイアス電圧や振動周波数によって変化するが、イオン液体13に対する上記バイアス電圧が電位窓の範囲で、振動周波数が0.1Hzであるとすると、1[cm]当たりの静電容量は10[μF/cm]程度となる。すなわち、電気二重層16a,16bの面積が1[cm]である場合には、電気二重層16a,16bが介在している部分の静電容量は10[μF]=1×10-5[F]程度となる。電気二重層16a,16bの電圧を1[V]とすると、電荷の量(帯電量)は1×10-5[C]となる。
 一方、エレクトレット電極を用いた従来の振動発電素子の場合、エレクトレット電極および金属電極の対向面積を1[cm]、電極間隔を10~100[μm]程度とすると、電極間の静電容量C(C=ε×(面積)/(間隔))は、8.85×10-12[F]~8.85×10-11[F]となる。エレクトレット電極の電圧を200[V]とすれば、帯電量は1.77×10-9~1.77×10-10[C]となる。ただし、真空の誘電率εを、ε≒8.85×10-12[F/m]とした。
 このように、本実施の形態の場合には電気二重層に与える電圧が1[V]程度と低いにもかかわらず、電極における帯電量が従来のエレクトレットを用いた振動発電素子に比べて1万倍から10万倍と非常に大きい。これは、層厚さ(以下では、符号deで表す)がnmオーダーの電気二重層を用いていることに起因する。本実施の形態では、このように大きな静電容量を有する電気二重層の面積変化によって発電を行う構成であるため、後述するように従来の振動発電素子に比べて桁違いに大きな発電量を得ることができる。
 なお、図2に示すように、固定電極11と可動基板12との隙間は、イオン液体13が介在する領域と単なる空間(本実施の形態の場合は真空)の領域とがあり、イオン液体13が介在しない領域においても静電容量を有している。例えば、イオン液体13が介在せずに単に一対の電極(面積は1[cm]とする)がd=1[mm]で対向している場合、静電容量Cは、C=ε×1×10-4[m]/1×10-3[m]≒8.85×10-13[F]となる。
 一方、上述したように、電気二重層16a,16bの面積が1[cm]の場合には、電気二重層16a,16bが介在している部分の静電容量は10[μF]=1×10-5[F]程度となる。そのため、イオン液体13が介在していない領域の静電容量は、電気二重層16a,16bの静電容量の1/10程度と非常に小さなものとなる。
 よって、以下の振動発電素子1の動作説明においては、イオン液体13が介在しない領域の静電容量をゼロとみなし、電気二重層キャパシタが直列接続されているものとして考える。このように、振動発電素子1においては、実質的に、電気二重層16a,16bの面積変化による静電容量の変化によって発電が行われる。
 図3は、振動発電素子1の動作を説明する模式図である。図3(a)は間隔dが最も大きくなったd=d0の場合(図2と同様)を示し、図3(b)は間隔dが最も小さくなったd=d0/2の場合を示す。図3(a)の場合と図3(b)の場合とではイオン液体13の体積は同じなので、図3(a)におけるエレクトレット122とイオン液体13との接触面積、および固定電極11とイオン液体13との接触面積をS0とすると、図3(b)における各接触面積は2S0となる。すなわち、図3(b)における電気二重層16aの面積は2倍に増加し、静電容量が2倍になる。
 その結果、図3(a)の状態から可動基板12が固定電極方向に移動すると、GND側からマイナス電荷が固定電極11に移動し、負荷14には図3(b)の矢印方向に電流Iが流れる。逆に、図3(b)の状態から可動基板12が図示上方に移動すると、マイナス電荷が固定電極11からGND側へと移動し、負荷14には図3(a)の矢印方向に電流Iが流れる。
 図3(a)における電気二重層16aの面積を0.5[cm]、図3(b)における電気二重層16aの面積を1[cm]とすると、電気二重層16aの静電容量は5[μF]から10[μF]に増加する。例えば、電気二重層16aにおける電位差を1Vと仮定した場合、5[μC]の電荷が負荷14を通過することになる。図3(a)の状態から図3(b)の状態への変化に要した時間を0.05[sec]とすれば(これは、20Hzの振動に対応する)、100[μA]の電流が負荷14に流れることになる。上述したように、隙間寸法dがd0→d0/2のように減少すると固定電極11からGNDへ電流が流れ、逆にd0/2→d0のように増加するとGNDから固定電極11へ電流が流れる。すなわち、外乱により可動基板12が上下に振動すると、交流電流が負荷14に流れる。
 なお、図2,3の説明では、振動発電素子1で発電された電力を電流として取り出す場合について説明したが、電圧として取り出すような負荷接続構成としても良い。振動発電素子1が開回路の状態で可動基板12が振動すると、支持基板121と固定電極11との間の電位差が変化するので、この電位差の変化を利用する。
 例えば、固定電極11とエレクトレット122との間隔(以下では、電極間隔と呼ぶ)がd0→d1のように変化し、イオン液体13と固定電極11との接触面積、すなわち電気二重層16a,16bの面積がS0→S1のように変化した場合を考える。各電気二重層16a,16bの静電容量をC、電気二重層16a,16bにおける電位差、面積、厚さをVe,S,deとし、固定電極11の帯電量をQとすると、Q=CVe、C=ε・S/deが成り立つ。2つの式からS・Ve=Q・de/εと表せるが、ここでQおよび電気二重層の厚さdeは変化しないので、電極間隔d0における電位差Ve0と電極間隔d1における電位差Ve1との間には、S0・Ve0=S1・Ve1が成り立つ。すなわち、電極間隔d1における電気二重層16a,16bの電位差Ve1は、Ve1=(S0/S1)・Ve0のように変化する。
 ところで、従来のように電極間の静電容量を利用する振動発電素子の場合、例えば、前述したように面積が1[cm]で間隔が1[mm]のキャパシタを考えた場合、間隔が1[mm]から0.5[mm]に変化すると、静電容量は8.85×10-13[F]からその2倍に増えるので、静電容量の変化ΔCはΔC=8.85×10-13[F]となる。例えば、電圧200Vのエレクトレットを用いた場合、電極の電荷量の変化は1.77×10-10[C]=1.77×10-4[μC]となる。これは、本実施の形態の場合の5[μC](ただし、電気二重層16aにおける電位差を1Vと仮定する)の約1/10000である。
 このように、本実施の形態の振動発電素子では、イオン液体による電気二重層の静電容量を利用することによって桁違いに大きな発電量を得ることができる。電気二重層の静電容量は、一般的なキャパシタの静電容量に比べて非常に大きい。そのため、小さな変位でより大きな電力を得ることができると共に、振動発電素子の小型化を図ることができる。また、外乱による可動基板12と固定電極11との間隔の変化により電気二重層の面積を変化させているので、少ない変位によって大きな面積変化を得ることができ、振動発電素子1のさらなる小型化を図ることができる。
 従来の振動発電素子の場合、特許文献1に記載の振動発電素子のように、質量が比較的に大きな可動部を、ばね定数の非常に小さな弾性支持部で可動可能に支持する構成が一般的である。それは、振動発電素子に対する外部からの振動として歩行時の振動や橋の振動等が用いられるため、振動の周波数が数Hz~数十Hz程度であることに起因している。このような低周波数において共振可能なように、可動部を非常に弱い弾性支持部で支持する構造が採用されている。そのため、従来の振動発電素子は、弾性支持部が壊れやすいという欠点があった。また、共振を利用しているので利用可能な帯域が狭いという欠点もあった。
 このような理由から、本実施の形態では図1に示すような摺動構造を採用することで、可動基板12が自由に振動できる構成としている。その結果、外部振動の周波数によらず、発電を効率良く行うことができる。もちろん、本実施の形態の振動発電素子の場合も、可動基板12を弾性支持部により支持する構造を採用することは可能である。
 なお、本実施の形態では、イオン液体13との接触面積を変化させて発電を行うので、接触面積変化を効果的に行わせるためには、イオン液体13との接触面、特に固定電極11の接触面における撥水性が重要である。電極材料として金を用いた場合には撥水性に優れているので撥水処理(例えば、撥水性膜の形成)は必要とされないが、電極材料の種類によっては撥水処理が必要となる。ただし、撥水性膜を形成した場合、電気二重層の層厚さ(上述したC=ε・S/deにおけるde)が大きくなり静電容量の低下を招くので、膜厚は可能な限り薄い方が好ましい。例えば、撥水性の単分子膜を用いるのが好ましい。
 なお、上述した実施の形態では容器の形状を円筒とし、固定電極11や可動基板12を円板状としているが、これらの形状に限定されるものではない。例えば、固定電極11や可動基板12を矩形状としても良い。また、可動基板12は摺動構造により上下に移動する構成としたが、電極側が振動する構成でも良い。
 動作原理を説明する図2では、固定電極11に負荷14を直接接続する構成としたが、振動発電素子1の出力側に整流回路や蓄電部等を設けて発電装置を構成するようにしても良い。
-第2の実施の形態-
 図4~6は、本発明の第2の実施の形態を説明する図である。図4は振動発電素子1の概略構成を示す図であり、図1(a)の場合と同様の断面形状を示したものである。なお、以下では図1に示す構成と異なる部分を中心に説明する。
 本実施形態における可動基板22は、支持基板221の表裏面にエレクトレット222a,222bが形成されている。エレクトレット222aに対向するように第1の固定電極11aが配置され、エレクトレット222bに対向するように第2の固定電極11bが配置されている。エレクトレット222aと固定電極11aとの隙間にはイオン液体13aが介在しており、エレクトレット222bと固定電極11bとの隙間にはイオン液体13bが介在している。
 可動基板22は固定電極11a,11bの間を図示上下方向に移動可能に構成されており、可動範囲2Lはストッパ4a,4bによって設定される。図4に示す例では、可動基板22が可動範囲の中央位置にある場合を示している。円筒部2と、円筒部2の下部開口に取り付けられた固定電極11aと、円筒部2の上部開口に取り付けられた固定電極11bとにより、容器が構成されている。第1の実施の形態の場合と同様、容器内は真空状態とされる。
 図5は、振動発電素子1の要部を示す模式図である。図5は電流を取り出す場合の負荷接続構成を示したものであり、負荷14は固定電極11aと固定電極11bとの間に接続され、固定電極11aはGND電位とされている。各エレクトレット222a,222bはプラスに帯電している。そのため、第1の実施の形態の場合と同様に、イオン液体13aと固定電極11aおよびエレクトレット222aとの界面、および、イオン液体13bと固定電極11bおよびエレクトレット222bとの界面には、それぞれ電気二重層が形成される。ここでは、イオン液体13aと固定電極11aとの間の電気二重層を符号16aで表し、イオン液体13bと固定電極11bとの間の電気二重層を符号16bで表すことにする。また、イオン液体13a,13bとエレクトレット222a,222bとの界面に形成される電気二重層を符号16c,16dで表す。
 図6は、可動基板22が振動した場合に負荷14に流れる電流を説明する図である。図6(a)は可動基板22が可動範囲の下端に移動した場合を示す。このとき、エレクトレット222aと固定電極11aとの間隔がd0/2となり、可動電極11bとエレクトレット222bとの間隔がd0となるように設定されている。一方、図6(b)は可動基板22が可動範囲の上端に移動した場合を示す。エレクトレット222aと固定電極11aとの間隔はd0となり、可動電極11bとエレクトレット222bとの間隔はd0/2となる。
 イオン液体13a,13bの体積は同一(=d0×S0)であり、図6(a)の場合には、イオン液体13bと固定電極11bおよびエレクトレット222bとの接触面積はそれぞれS0、イオン液体13aと固定電極11aおよびエレクトレット222aとの接触面積はそれぞれ2S0になっている。そのため、電気二重層16bの静電容量をC0とすると、電気二重層16aの静電容量は2C0となる。一方、図6(b)に示す状態では、イオン液体13bと固定電極11bおよびエレクトレット222bとの接触面積はそれぞれ2S0となり、イオン液体13aと固定電極11aおよびエレクトレット222aとの接触面積はそれぞれS0となる。
 この場合、電気二重層の静電容量は接触面積に比例するので、図6(a)の状態から可動基板22が固定電極11b側に移動して図6(b)に示す状態になると、電気二重層16aの静電容量は2C0→C0のように変化し、電気二重層16bの静電容量はC0→2C0のように変化する。その結果、固定電極11aから固定電極11bにマイナス電荷が移動し、負荷14には図6(b)の矢印方向に電流Iが流れる。
 逆に、図6(b)の状態から可動基板22が固定電極11a側に移動して図6(a)に示す状態になると、電気二重層16aの静電容量はC0→2C0のように変化し、電気二重層16bの静電容量は2C0→C0のように変化する。その結果、固定電極11bから固定電極11aにマイナス電荷が移動し、負荷14には図6(a)の矢印方向に電流Iが流れる。
 ここで、開回路状態を考えると、可動基板22と固定電極11aとの間の電位差、および、可動基板22と固定電極11bとの間の電位差は、図2に示した可動基板12と固定電極11との関係と同様となっている。ただし、それぞれの電位は互いの位相が180度ずれているので、固定電極11aと固定電極11bとの間の電位差は図3に示す構成の2倍となる。
 このように、本実施の形態の場合に得られる発電のパワー(電力)は、図1に示す第1の実施の形態の場合に比べて2倍になることが分かる。
 なお、本実施の形態の場合も発電された電力を電流として出力しているが、電圧を取り出すような構成としても良い。その場合、第1の実施の形態で説明した場合と同様の動作となり、ここでは説明を省略する。また、上述した実施の形態では容器の形状を円筒とし、固定電極11a,11bや可動基板22を円板状としているが、これらの形状に限定されるものではない。さらにまた、可動基板22は摺動構造により上下に移動する構成としたが、例えば、可動基板22を弾性体で支持する構成としても構わない。
 また、図10のようにエレクトレット側でなく電極側が振動する構成としても良い。図10に示す例では、固定電極として機能する一対のエレクトレット222a,222bの間に、可動電極10を上下方向に移動可能に配置する構成としている。エレクトレット222a,222bは、可動電極10と対向する面が帯電するようにエレクトレット化されている。可動電極10は、金等で構成される電極101a,101bの間に絶縁基板102を挟持した構造を有している。電極101aはエレクトレット222aと対向し、電極101bはエレクトレット222bと対向している。
 負荷14は、電極101aと電極101bとの間に接続される。例えば、可動電極10がエレクトレット222a方向に移動すると、電極101aとイオン液体13aとの接触面積が増加して、電極101bとイオン液体13bとの接触面積が減少する。その結果、マイナス電荷が負荷14を介して電極101bから電極101aへ移動し、負荷14には図示上方向に電流Iが流れることになる。逆に、可動電極10がエレクトレット222b方向に移動すると、マイナス電荷が電極101aから電極101bへ移動し、負荷14には図示下方向に電流が流れる。
-第3の実施の形態-
 図7は本発明の第3の実施の形態を説明する図であり、振動発電素子1の要部を示す模式図である。上述した第1の実施の形態では、図2に示したようにイオン液体13と固定電極11との接触領域に電気二重層16aを形成するために、エレクトレット122を用いた。本実施の形態では、エレクトレット122が形成された可動基板12に代えて、外部電源によりバイアス電圧Vddが印加された可動電極32を用いる構成とした。
 可動電極32にバイアス電圧Vddを印加すると、図7(a)に示すように、イオン液体13のマイナスイオンが可動電極側に引き寄せられ、プラスイオンが固定電極側に引き寄せられる。その結果、固定電極11および可動電極32とイオン液体13との界面に電気二重層16a,16bが形成される。バイアス電圧Vddを第1の実施の形態におけるエレクトレット122の電圧(表面電位)と同一とすれば、図2に示す場合と同様の電気二重層16a,16bが形成されることになる。図7(b)に示すように固定電極11と可動電極32との間隔をd0/2に減少させると、電気二重層16a,16bの面積は2倍になり、それらの静電容量も2倍になることは、第1の実施の形態と同様である。
 また、電源が接続された電極を上下に移動させる代わりに、負荷が接続された電極を上下に移動させる構成としても良い。ところで、金属電極とイオン液体との界面には界面動電現象により電気二重層が形成されることが知られている。例えば、金属電極に金を用いた場合には、数十[mV]程度の界面動電位が発生する。そのため、上述したエレクトレットや外部電源を用いる場合に比べて電圧は小さくなるが、それに応じた電気二重層が金属電極とイオン液体との界面に発生する。そのため、界面動電位を利用して上述した実施の形態と同様の振動発電素子を構成することができる。
-第4の実施の形態-
 図8,9は、本発明の第4の実施形態を示す図である。上述した第1~第3の実施の形態では、隙間にイオン液体13を保持した一対の基板の間隔を変化させることによって、イオン液体と基板との接触面積(すなわち、電気二重層の面積)を変化させ、発電を行うようにした。本実施の形態では、エレクトレットが形成された可動基板を、イオン液体との接触面に対して平行にスライド移動させることにより、電気二重層の面積を変化させるようにした。
 図8は、振動発電素子1の概略構成を示す図である。図8(a)は振動発電素子1の断面図であり、図8(b)はB-B断面図である。振動発電素子1は、一対の固定電極11a,11bと、それらの間に配置された可動基板42とを備えている。固定電極11aは、枠部材43aの孔430に嵌め込まれるように枠部材43aに固定されている。固定電極11bは、枠部材43bの孔431に嵌め込まれるように枠部材43bに固定されている。孔430と孔431とは対向している。
 枠部材43a,43bの可動基板42に対向する面には、ボール432がそれぞれ設けられている。図8(b)に示すように、ボール432は孔430,431の中心軸を中心とする円周上に複数配置されている。可動基板42は、枠部材43aに設けられたボール432と枠部材43bに設けられたボール432との間に挟持されるように配置されている。枠部材43a,43bは絶縁材料で形成される。また、ボール432についても絶縁材料(例えば、セラミックボール等)で形成するのが好ましい。
 固定電極11aが嵌め込まれた孔430にはイオン液体13aが充填されており、イオン液体13aは固定電極11aと可動基板42との間に介在する。同様に、固定電極11bが嵌め込まれた孔431にはイオン液体13bが充填されており、イオン液体13bは固定電極11bと可動基板42との間に介在する。
 円板状の可動基板42は、支持基板421の表裏面に誘電体部材422a,422bを設けたものである。誘電体部材422a、422bは、それらの中央の円形領域Rのみが帯電処理によりエレクトレット化されている。すなわち、円形領域Rの誘電体部材422a,422bはエレクトレットとして機能する。以下では、円形領域RをエレクトレットRと呼ぶことにする。本実施形態では、エレクトレット(円形領域)Rは孔430,431の断面形状とほぼ同一に設定されている。
 可動基板42、固定電極11aが設けられた枠部材43a、および固定電極11bが設けられた枠部材43bは、円筒部440、円筒部440の上開口に設けられた天板441、および円筒部440の下開口に設けられた底板442から構成される容器内に収納されている。固定電極11aの下端面は、底板442の中央部に形成された孔から外部に露出している。固定電極11bの上端面は、天板441の中央に形成された孔から外部に露出している。枠部材43aは、円筒部440または底板442に固定されている。枠部材43bは、円筒部440または天板441に固定されている。そのため、容器に外部振動が加わると、可動基板42は枠部材43a,43bに対して左右方向にスライド移動する。なお、可動基板42の振動を妨げないように、容器内は真空とされるのが好ましい。
 図9は、第4の実施形態における発電動作を説明する図である。上述したように、可動基板42は、支持基板421の表裏面に誘電体部材422a,422bが形成されたものである。誘電体部材422a,422bの中央領域がプラスに帯電されたエレクトレットRとなっている。
 図9(a)に示すように可動基板42が中央に位置しているときには、エレクトレットRがイオン液体13a,13bの部分に対向する。この場合には、エレクトレットRとイオン液体13a,13bとの界面を挟んで電気二重層16a,16bが形成される。また、固定電極11aとイオン液体13aとの界面を挟んで電気二重層16cが形成され、固定電極11bとイオン液体13bとの界面を挟んで電気二重層16dが形成される。この状態から図9(b)に示すように可動基板42が左方向にスライド移動するとエレクトレットRも左側に移動し、イオン液体13a,13bに接触するエレクトレットRの面積が減少する。そのため、電気二重層16a~16dの面積が減少し、電気二重層16a~16dの静電容量が減少する。その結果、固定電極11a,11bのマイナス電荷がGND側に移動して、負荷14に矢印で示すような電流Iが流れる。逆に、図9(b)の状態から図9(a)に示す状態となるように可動基板42がスライド移動すると、負荷14には図9(b)の矢印方向とは逆方向の電流が流れることになる。
 上述した第4の実施形態では、スライド移動する可動基板42の上下両方に固定電極11a,11bを配置したが、可動基板42の一方の側にのみ固定電極を設ける構成としても良い。ただし、可動基板42の上下両方に固定電極11a,11bを配置する構成の場合には、片側のみに固定電極を配置する構成に比べて2倍の電流を得ることができる。
 また、図11に示すように、固定電極11a,11bの位置にエレクトレット522a,522bをそれぞれ配置し、可動基板52の円形領域R(凹部になっている)に電極11a,11bを配置するようにしても良いし、エレクトレット522a,522bの代わりにバイアス電圧が印加された電極を配置するようにしても良い。図11において、電極11a,11bは絶縁性の支持基板520の表裏面に設けられている。
 また、固定電極11a,11bおよびエレクトレットRは円形でなくても良く、例えば、矩形状のエレクトレットが矩形状の固定電極に対して、矩形の辺に対して垂直方向にスライド移動する構成であっても良い。
-第5の実施の形態-
 図12~14は、本発明の第5の実施の形態を示す図である。図12は振動発電素子1の断面図であり、図13は、可動基板42の表裏面を示す図である。第5の実施の形態は、可動基板42の表裏面に設けられた誘電体部材422a,422bのエレクトレット化領域の形態が第4の実施の形態と異なる。その他の構成については第4の実施の形態と同様であり、説明を省略する。
 上述した第4の実施の形態では、図8に示すように誘電体部材422a,422bのいずれも中央領域Rをエレクトレット化した。しかし、第5の実施の形態では、図12,13に示すように、誘電体部材422aについては中央領域R(半径rの領域)をエレクトレット化しているが、誘電体部材422bについては、中央領域Rの外側の領域R1(半径r~2rの領域)をエレクトレット化している。
 図14は、発電動作を説明する図である。図14(a)に示すように可動基板42が中央位置にある場合には、可動基板42の中央領域Rが固定電極11a,11b(すなわち、イオン液体13a,13b)と対向している。この場合、誘電体部材422aのエレクトレット化された領域とイオン液体13aとの接触領域には電気二重層16aが形成され、固定電極11aとイオン液体13aとの接触領域には電気二重層16cが形成される。この場合の電気二重層16a,16cの面積は領域Rの面積と同一となる。
 次いで、図14(b)に示すように可動基板42が図示左方向に移動すると、誘電体部材422aのエレクトレット化された領域Rの、固定電極11aと対向する部分の面積が減少する。その結果、電気二重層16a,16cの面積も減少する。一方、誘電体部材422aに関しては、エレクトレット化された領域R1の一部が固定電極11bと対向するようになる。その結果、誘電体部材422bのエレクトレット化された領域R1とイオン液体13bとの接触領域には電気二重層16bが形成され、それに対応するように、固定電極11bとイオン液体13bとの接触領域には電気二重層16dが形成される。すなわち、イオン液体13b側においては電気二重層の面積が増加する。その結果、負荷14には矢印方向に電流が流れることになる。
 図14(b)に示す状態から可動基板42が図示右方向に移動すると、電気二重層16a,16cの面積が増加し、電気二重層16b,16dの面積が減少する。そのため、負荷14に流れる電流の向きは、図14(b)の場合とは逆向きになる。その後、可動基板42が図14(a)に示す状態まで移動し、さらに右側に移動すると図14(b)を左右反転したような状態となり、負荷14に流れる電流の向きは図14(b)の場合と同じとなる。このように、可動基板42が図14(a)の状態から左右に振動すると、負荷14には交流電流が流れる。
 以上説明したように、本発明による振動発電素子においては、図1,2に示すように、固定電極11と、固定電極11に対して対向配置され、固定電極11との間隔が変化する方向(図示上下方向)に移動可能な可動基板12と、対向配置された固定電極11と可動基板12との間に介在するように設けられたイオン液体13と、を備える。
 図3に示すように外乱により可動基板12が移動すると、固定電極11とイオン液体13との界面を挟んで形成される電気二重層16a、および可動基板12のエレクトレット122とイオン液体13との界面を挟んで形成される電気二重層16bの面積がそれぞれ変化する。その結果、電気二重層16aの静電容量が変化し、固定電極11に接続された負荷14に電流が流れる。
 電気二重層の厚さはnmオーダーと、従来の振動発電素子の電極間距離に比べ桁違いに小さいため、可動基板12の振動に伴う静電容量変化も桁違いに大きくなる。その結果、従来の振動発電素子に比べて非常に大きな発電量を得ることができ、振動発電素子の小型化を図ることができる。また、固定電極11とエレクトレット122との間隔の変化で電気二重層の面積変化を生じさせるようにしているので、可動基板12の僅かな変化により大きな面積変化を生じさせることが可能となる。
 なお、エレクトレット122の表面電位はイオン液体13の電位窓の範囲内に設定されるので、イオン液体13に電流が流れることなく電気二重層16a,16bを安定的に形成することができる。
 なお、電気二重層16a,16bの形成方法としては、上述したようにエレクトレット122を用いても良いし、界面動電現象により生じる電気二重層を利用しても良いし、図7に示したように電圧源を設けて可動電極にバイアス電圧を印加して電気二重層を形成するようにしても良い。バイアス電圧は、上述した電位窓の範囲内に設定される。
 さらに、図4に示すように、可動基板22は、その表裏面に表面側電極としてのエレクトレット222bと裏面側電極としてのエレクトレット222aとを有し、エレクトレット222bに対して対向配置された固定電極11bとエレクトレット222aに対して対向配置された固定電極11aとを有するような構成としても良い。その場合、固定電極11bとエレクトレット222bとの間にイオン液体13bを介在させると共に、固定電極11aとエレクトレット222aとの間にそイオン液体13aを介在させるようにする。その結果、固定電極11aと固定電極11bとの間の電圧変化は、図2に示すように固定電極11が一つの場合に比べて2倍となる。
 また、図8,9に示すように、固定電極11a,11bと可動基板42との間にイオン液体13a,13bを介在させ、固定電極11a,11bに対して可動基板42をスライド移動させるようにしても良い。可動基板42がスライド移動すると、可動基板42の表裏面に設けられた誘電体部材422a,422bのエレクトレット化された領域Rとイオン液体13a,13bとの接触面積が変化し、固定電極11a,11bとイオン液体13a,13bとの界面を挟んで形成される電気二重層16bの面積が変化する。
 上述した各実施形態は、それぞれ組み合わせて用いても良い。また、本発明の特徴を損なわない限り、本発明は上記実施の形態に何ら限定されるものではない。なお、上述した各実施形態は振動発電素子の形態で説明してきたが、ここで示されたイオン液体を用いた電気二重層による大きな容量のキャパシタは、容量の大きな蓄電素子として利用することができる。例えば、電力の使用が必要なときまで、外部からの振動で発生した電荷を蓄積しておく目的で、この蓄電素子を利用することが可能である。蓄電素子も発電素子と類似の材料と構造で構成できるため、発電と蓄電の両機能を兼ねたデバイスを容易に作ることが可能である。

Claims (8)

  1.  固定電極と、
     前記固定電極に対して対向配置され、前記固定電極に対して移動可能な可動電極と、
     対向配置された前記固定電極と前記可動電極との間に介在するように設けられたイオン液体と、を備え、
     外部からの振動による前記可動電極の移動により、前記固定電極と前記イオン液体との界面を挟んで形成される電気二重層、および前記可動電極と前記イオン液体との界面を挟んで形成される電気二重層の、少なくとも一方の面積が変化することによって発電を行う、振動発電素子。
  2.  請求項1に記載の振動発電素子において、
     前記可動電極は、前記固定電極との間隔が変化する方向に移動可能であり、
     外部からの振動による前記可動電極の移動により、前記固定電極と前記イオン液体との界面を挟んで形成される電気二重層、および前記可動電極と前記イオン液体との界面を挟んで形成される電気二重層の面積がそれぞれ変化する、振動発電素子。
  3.  請求項2に記載の振動発電素子において、
     互いに対向する前記固定電極および前記可動電極の一方はエレクトレット電極であり、
     前記エレクトレット電極の表面電位は前記イオン液体の電位窓の範囲内に設定されている振動発電素子。
  4.  請求項2に記載の振動発電素子において、
     前記電気二重層は、前記固定電極および前記可動電極と前記イオン液体との接触領域に生じる界面動電現象により形成されたものである振動発電素子。
  5.  請求項2乃至4のいずれか一項に記載の振動発電素子において、
     前記可動電極は、該可動電極の表面側に設けられた表面側電極と、前記可動電極の裏面側に設けられた裏面側電極とを有し、
     前記固定電極は、前記表面側電極に対して対向配置された第1電極と前記裏面側電極に対して対向配置された第2電極とを有し、
     前記イオン液体は、前記第1電極と前記表面側電極との間、および、前記第2電極と前記裏面側電極との間にそれぞれ介在するように設けられている振動発電素子。
  6.  請求項1に記載の振動発電素子において、
     前記可動電極は、前記固定電極との間隔を一定に保持した状態でスライド移動可能であり、
     外部からの振動による前記可動電極のスライド移動により、前記可動電極と前記イオン液体との界面を挟んで形成される電気二重層の面積が変化する、振動発電素子。
  7.  請求項6に記載の振動発電素子において、
     前記可動電極は、
     可動基板と、
     前記可動基板の前記固定電極と対向する面に設けられ、表面電位が前記イオン液体の電位窓の範囲内に設定されているエレクトレット電極とを有し、
     前記可動電極のスライド移動により、前記エレクトレット電極と前記イオン液体との界面を挟んで形成される電気二重層の面積が変化する振動発電素子。
  8.  請求項7に記載の振動発電素子において、
     前記可動電極は、前記可動基板の表面に設けられた第1エレクトレット電極と、前記可動基板の裏面に設けられた第2エレクトレット電極とを有し、
     前記固定電極は、前記可動基板の表面に対して対向配置された第1電極と前記可動基板の裏面に対して対向配置された第2電極とを有し、
     前記イオン液体は、前記第1電極と前記可動基板の表面との間、および、前記第2電極と前記可動基板の裏面との間にそれぞれ介在するように設けられている振動発電素子。
