Definitions
- the present invention relates to a method and a control system for controlling a network composed of a plurality of nodes.
- C plane control plane
- Non-Patent Document 1 Section 5.3.5 describes that the base station starts the S1 Release procedure by detecting the inactivity of the terminal (User Inactivity). This makes it possible to suppress the occurrence of the C-plane packet itself.
- Patent Document 1 for the purpose of reducing the power consumption of a terminal, the time during which the terminal is not communicating is measured on the network side, and if there is no communication for a predetermined time or longer, the terminal is put into sleep.
- a system for transitioning to a mode is disclosed.
- a method for changing the timeout time according to the communication frequency of the terminal is also disclosed.
- a timer that measures the non-communication time of the terminal and causes the terminal to transition to the sleep state when it times out is called an inactivity timer (InactivityInTimer) and is set as one of the base station parameters.

- control parameters for nodes constituting a network are determined based on the traffic feature amount of the entire network. Thereby, the effective network load reduction which overlooked the whole network can be achieved.
- this embodiment will be described in detail with reference to the drawings.
- the network control system 10 observes the entire network 20 having a plurality of communication nodes 21 and C plane processing nodes 22, and the entire network.
- the parameters to be set in the nodes of the network 20 are controlled based on the traffic data.
- the network 20 is assumed to be capable of packet communication with an external packet data network 30 via a gateway node (GW).
- GW gateway node
- the network control system 10 determines a function 11 for collecting traffic data from the network 20, a function 12 for extracting traffic feature values from the collected traffic data, and control parameters for nodes constituting the network 20 from the extracted traffic feature values. And a function 13 to perform.
- the traffic data collection function 11, the traffic feature amount extraction function 12, and the control parameter determination function 13 may be concentrated in one apparatus or may be distributed in a plurality of apparatuses.
- the functions 11 to 13 may be provided in the C plane processing node 22 or a separate analyzer.
- the traffic feature quantity extraction function 12 is hierarchized, and a lower layer traffic feature quantity extraction function is provided in the communication node 21 of the network 20 or a higher-level control device (not shown) of the communication node 21, and the collected information is further upgraded. It is also possible to summarize the traffic feature quantity of the entire network with the device (C-plane processing node or separate analysis device).
- Each of the functions 11 to 13 may be realized by a hardware device, or may be realized by software by executing a program stored in a storage device on a computer.
- the traffic feature amount is an amount indicating the characteristics or properties of the traffic of the entire network, and is composed of one or a plurality of combinations of the amounts exemplified below.
- -Occurrence rate or arrival rate of connection requests connection frequency of the entire network
- Simultaneous arrival rate from multiple terminals also referred to as synchronization rate between multiple terminals, synchronization rate in the network, or burst rate
- Periodic interval when there is periodicity
- -Phase for example, when the time of occurrence is fixed at 00 minutes
- -Phase shift when the occurrence time is distributed within a certain range around the reference phase
- the control parameter of the node is calculated using the extracted feature value.
- the simultaneous arrival rate is used as the traffic feature amount.
- the simultaneous arrival rate is an index indicating the degree of simultaneous arrival of packets generated from a plurality of terminals within a predetermined time within the network, and is here represented by the letter ⁇ .
- the simultaneous arrival rate ⁇ can be defined using statistics such as the average, variance, and coefficient of variation of the arrival time intervals of the generated packets.
- the simultaneous arrival rate ⁇ when viewed from another aspect, it can be regarded as a ratio of the occurrence rate ⁇ b of the simultaneous arrival to the occurrence rate ⁇ of the packet of the entire network.
- the concept of the simultaneous arrival rate will be described by taking as an example the case where the independent arrival packet and the simultaneous arrival (collective arrival) packet are mixed when the simultaneous arrival rate ⁇ is considered as the simultaneous arrival in the packet occurrence of the entire network. Will be explained.
- the overall event occurrence rate is ⁇
- the occurrence rate of independent occurrence is ⁇ e
- the occurrence rate of simultaneous arrival is ⁇ b
- the simultaneous arrival rate is ⁇ (0 ⁇ ⁇ ⁇ 1)
- the terminal that is the packet generation source The number is N
- the average time interval of packet generation is t (seconds).
- the simultaneous arrival is defined as that N packets occur simultaneously every average t seconds or arrive at the server
- the occurrence rate ⁇ b for the simultaneous arrival can be described as N / t.
- t follows an arbitrary distribution and may be an independent distribution (random) or a fixed period.
- the relationship between the C-plane packet occurrence rate ⁇ c and the average delay E changes depending on the simultaneous arrival rate ⁇ .
- the average delay E is the processing delay of the C-plane processing node 22, and corresponds to, for example, the processing load of the MME (mobile management node) in the mobile network.
- the C plane occurrence rate ⁇ c is controlled by determining communication node parameters such as an inactivity timer value or a backoff timer value based on the simultaneous arrival rate ⁇ that is a traffic feature quantity, and the C plane load is determined according to the network situation. Can be reduced.
- the processing load of the C plane processing node 22 (in this case, evaluated by the average delay E) can be calculated only by analyzing the traffic. Further, by monitoring the occurrence rate of the C plane packet and the processing load of the C plane processing node 22, it is possible to calculate the rate of simultaneous occurrence.
- Control parameters As described above, as methods for reducing the C-plane processing load, suppression of C-plane packet generation itself, discard of generated C-plane packets on the network side, and concentrated C-plane packet processing Is known.
- an inactivity timer as means for suppressing packet generation itself, a regulation rate as means for discarding packets on the network side, and a backoff timer as means for distributing packet processing will be described.
- ⁇ Inactivity timer> A control parameter called an inactivity timer value greatly affects the amount of C-plane packets generated.
- the inactivity timer is a timer that measures a non-communication time for determining a timing at which a terminal in a CONNECTED state (connected state) with a base station transitions to an IDLE state (sleep state). That is, when the elapsed time from the last occurrence of the U-plane packet reaches the inactivity timer value (IAT value), a release request RR is generated and the radio resource (radio bearer) is released.
- IAT value inactivity timer value
- the reciprocal of the time interval in which the service request SR occurs is defined as the SR occurrence rate
- the time for which the terminal occupies the radio resource increases, and the connection state and the sleep state The state transition is less likely to occur. That is, the generation amount of C plane packets per terminal is suppressed, and as a result, the total number of C plane packets on the network is also suppressed.
- the IAT value is shortened, the radio resources of the terminal are quickly released, and as a result, the total number of C plane packets generated increases.
- the graph shown in FIG. 4 shows the SR occurrence rate when the inactivity timer value (IAT value) is used as a parameter.
- IAT value inactivity timer value
- the Inactivity Timer value which is a base station parameter, according to the traffic situation, it is possible to perform network control in consideration of a trade-off between the load of the C-plane packet processing device (MME) and the number of simultaneous connections.
- the restriction rate is determined based on the traffic feature amount, and communication restriction is imposed on at least one of the mobility management node, the base station, and the terminal, for example, according to the network situation indicated by the traffic feature amount. It is possible to apply.
- communication regulation is performed by a mobility management node on a terminal or base station by adjusting the regulation rate according to the packet arrival rate (occurrence rate) of the entire network.
- the application target of the communication regulation is expanded, and for example, even when the simultaneous arrival rate is large, the mobile management node arrives at the mobility management node by restricting the communication to the mobility management node or by restricting at the terminal or base station level. It is possible to reduce the load by reducing packets. Further, if the packet occurrence event has periodicity or phase, communication restriction is imposed on the terminal or the base station so that the packet occurrence does not concentrate.
- the regulation rate for example, by accepting / rejecting a connection request according to the regulation rate, it is possible to reduce or adjust the C-plane load.
- a control parameter called a back-off timer value greatly contributes to the distribution of C-plane packet processing.
- the average delay E may exceed the allowable level D even if the C plane packet occurrence rate ⁇ c decreases. Therefore, especially when the simultaneous arrival rate ⁇ is large, the distribution of the processing load of the C-plane packet is effective in eliminating the overload state. If the packet occurrence event has periodicity or phase, the processing of the C-plane packet can be effectively distributed by setting the back-off timer value so that the packet occurrence does not concentrate.
- the traffic data collected from the network 20 includes C-plane control signal traffic and U-plane user data traffic.
- the C plane traffic can also be obtained analytically if the inactivity timer value is known.
- the traffic data can be acquired at the entrance / exit of the IP tunnel set between the communication node 21 and the gateway node GW or the C plane processing node 21.
- the traffic data collection target may be all communication nodes 21 in the network 20, but may be a part of communication nodes sampled at random or a part of communication selected at random. It may be a node. Alternatively, the communication nodes may be classified into classes using the number of users per communication node, population statistical information, and the like as indices, and the collection target may be randomly selected from each class so as to match the distribution ratio between classes.
- the traffic feature amount is statistical information of traffic data collected from the network 20.
- the connection request occurrence rate, arrival rate, periodic characteristics, phase, or phase shift information of the entire network can be obtained from, for example, statistical information of a terminal that is a packet generation source or a base station that receives a packet from the terminal.
- the simultaneous arrival rate (synchronization rate between a plurality of terminals, synchronization rate in the network, or burst rate) can be calculated as described above.
- the network control system 10 determines the control parameters of the network nodes from the extracted traffic feature amount. Specifically, the traffic feature amount is compared with the determination condition, and the control parameter is calculated according to the comparison result. By applying the parameters thus calculated to all or some of the nodes, network control according to the traffic situation can be performed.
- the control parameter value it is determined whether or not to change the control parameter value depending on whether the traffic feature amount exceeds or falls below a predetermined threshold value.
- a predetermined range is set as the threshold value, and if the traffic feature amount is within a range satisfying the determination condition, the control parameter is maintained at the current value, and if the determination condition is not satisfied, the value of the control parameter is set. change.
- the traffic feature amount is the packet occurrence rate of the entire network and the control parameter is the inactivity timer value
- the inactivity timer value is lengthened to suppress the occurrence rate.
- the inactivity timer value is shortened.
- the control parameter change timing can have a hysteresis characteristic.
- the parameter change determination timing can be executed at a predetermined cycle or when a specific processing request occurs abnormally more than usual.
- the threshold value for the wrinkle determination condition can be determined in consideration of device specifications such as the processing capability of the C-plane processing node 22, for example. Also, considering the influence of deviation (dispersion) from the average value regarding the occurrence of C-plane packets, or estimating the approximate distribution characteristics of the occurrence rate of C-plane packets from data such as the age and sex of the area where the base station is installed It may be reflected in the threshold value.
- the same value may be set in all the communication nodes 21, or for each communication node or for each of the plurality of communication nodes depending on the situation of each communication node 21. Different values can be set. For example, if the communication node is a mobile terminal, the inactivity timer is a parameter that is managed for each mobile terminal, and therefore it may be set differently for each terminal.
- the traffic management node of the mobile network is provided with the traffic data collection function 11, the traffic feature quantity extraction function 12, and the base station parameter determination function 13 of the network control system 10 of FIG. And control the C-plane traffic. Further, it is assumed that the communication node 21 of the network 20 is a radio base station and a mobile terminal.

- the mobility management node 103 in the core network 101 corresponds to the C plane processing node 22 in FIG. That is, the mobility management node 103 collects C-plane traffic data from the radio base station 104 of the radio access network 102, extracts a traffic feature quantity from the collected traffic data, and controls the radio base station 104 from the extracted traffic feature quantity.

- the traffic data collection phase and the parameter control phase can operate independently of each other, and parameter control can be executed in parallel each time data is accumulated while collecting traffic data.
- real-time control becomes possible by making the time for shifting to the parameter control phase zero after the end of the traffic data collection phase.
- the mobility management node 103 receives a control packet from the radio base station 104 in the radio access network 102 (operation S130).

For example, when the arrival rate or the simultaneous arrival rate of the entire C plane packet network approaches the processing capability of the mobility management node 103, the base station parameter is determined so as to reduce this arrival rate / simultaneous arrival rate. The determined base station parameter is notified to all the base stations in charge or a specific base station through the IPsec processing unit 121 and the control packet transmitting / receiving unit 120 (operation S136).

Abstract
Description
非特許文献1の4.3.7.4.1項によれば、MME(Mobile Management Entity;以下、移動管理ノードという。)
η=λb/λ、
λ=λe+λb=(1-η)λ+ηλ
