Abstract

본 발명은 분해되면 산화가스가 생성되는 금속 함유 전구체가 기공 내 적용된 다공성 탄소 물질을 준비하는 제1 단계; 산화분위기 하에서 상기 준비된 다공성 탄소 물질을 상기 금속 함유 전구체의 분해 온도 또는 그 이상으로 열처리함으로써, 다공성 탄소 물질의 기공을 주형으로 하여 상기 금속 함유 전구체로부터 입자를 형성시키면서 동시에 탄소물질을 제거하는 제2 단계를 포함하는, 금속 함유 입자의 제조 방법을 제공한다. 본 발명에 따른 금속 함유 입자 제조 방법은 저온 열처리를 통해 탄소물질 지지체의 기공을 주형으로 하여 금속 함유 입자를 형성함과 동시에 탄소물질을 효과적으로 제거할 수 있다. 또한, 본 발명에 따른 금속 함유 입자 제조 방법은 저온 열처리로 탄소물질 지지체를 제거함으로써, 나노입자의 신터링 및 지지체와의 화학적 반응을 피하면서도, 단순한 공정으로 순도 높은 나노입자를 제조할 수 있게 한다.

Description

다공성 탄소물질을 이용한 금속 함유 입자 형성방법
본 발명은 다공성 탄소물질의 기공을 주형으로 사용하여 금속 함유 입자를 제조하는 방법에 관한 것이다.
나노입자는 수 nm ~ 수백 nm 크기의 넓은 표면적을 가진 입자로, 나노 촉매, 바이오센서, 차세대 디스플레이 형광체, 테라비트급 하드 드라이브, 태양전지, 나노 전자소자를 포함하는 다양한 분야의 기술이 상용화되기 위해 필요한 핵심재료이다. 원하는 목적에 맞는 적절한 입자 크기 및 크기 분포를 가지면서, 입자 표면에 화학적으로 결합하는 반응성 작용기 도입, 리간드 도입, 표면전하 종류의 변화, 자기조립단분자막(self-assembled monolayer) 도입을 통해 입자의 반응성 및 그 기능성을 향상시킬 수 있다. 또한, 한가지 화학 종을 이용한 나노 입자뿐만 아니라, 둘 이상의 무기재료를 이용한 복합소재 나노입자, 표면(Core)과 내부(shell)간 물질을 달리하는 Core-shell 구조의 나노입자 역시 그 활용도에 있어 여러 분야에서 차세대 기능성 재료로 기대를 받고 있다. 무기재료 소재의 나노입자는, 벌크 특성과 다른 독특한 물성이나 새로운 기능을 나타낸다. 양자크기 효과(Quantum size effect)에 의해 빛, 전기 및 자기 등에서 독특한 물성을 나타내기 때문에, 나노입자의 합성 및 응용에 관한 연구는 21세기를 선도하는 첨단재료과학의 연구분야로 큰 관심을 모으고 있다. 초소성 세라믹이나, 고강도, 고인장성 나노세라믹과 같은 구조재료 외에도 미세한 결정립을 갖는 단일구조의 결정이방성을 만족하는 자성재료 (초상자성 센서 나 자성유체 등)나 표면적을 극대화하는 광촉매 및 화학촉매, 연료전지 및 가스센서와 같은 전자 회로 등에 널리 이용되고 있다.
나노입자 합성 방법은 매우 다양하다. 중화유화공정 (Neutralization Emulsification Process)은 고분자에 이온화하는 기능성 유기그룹을 도입하여 계면활성제 없이 자가 유화(self-emulsification) 되는 방법으로, 유기산(-COOH) 등을 미리 중합시킨 코팅용 고분자에 화학적으로 결합시키면 유기산끼리의 반발력에 의해 나노입자를 형성한다. 이 방법은 주로 우레탄 분산입자를 제조할 때 사용된다.
고분자 전해질을 통한 나노입자 합성방법은 금속이나 반도체 등의 무기재료 나노입자를 형성하는 방법으로 잘 알려져 있다. 용매 내에서 이온화된 금속 전구체의 금속이온에 반대 전하를 지닌 선형의 고분자 전해질을 흡착시키면 고분자 전해질이나 금속이온의 농도에 따라 정해진 표면에너지를 갖는 특정 크기의 나노입자들이 고분자 전해질에 둘러쌓여, 더 이상 나노입자 성장이 일어나지 않고 일정한 크기의 나노입자로 형성된다. 그리고 뒤이은 환원반응을 통해 반도체 나노입자 조립체 또는 1차원 메탈로 전이된다. 예를 들어 양이온 체인 (PVP:Polyvinylpyrrolidone)이나 음이온(PdCl4 2-)에 의해서 형성되기도 하며, 친수성 블록공중합체 (hydrophilic block copolymer)에 의한 나노입자 조립체를 형성할 수도 있다.
나노선 및 나노튜브를 이용하는 방법은 고분자 전해질, 바이오 분자들과 비교하여 좀 더 단단하고 구조화된 지지체를 제공한다. 나노선 및 속이 비어있는 탄소나노튜브(CNT)의 표면과 내부는 나노입자들의 조립을 위한 템플레이트로 사용된다. 템플레이트 표면 위에 반도체 나노입자나 메탈을 화학적(CVD:Chemical Vapor Deposition) 또는 물리적인 기상증착법(PVD:Physical Vapor Deposition, ex. Thermal evaporation, Sputtering etc.)에 의해 합성하거나, 메탈 콤플렉스를 나노선 표면에 졸-겔법으로 형성시켜 합성, 또는 표면성질을 개질하여 특별한 흡착법에 의해 나노입자를 생성하는 방법이다.
또한, 자발적으로 배열하는 고분자와 나노입자의 전구체가 포함된 수용액을 혼합하면 고분자가 자발적으로 층을 형성하고 층 사이에 수용액이 고립된다. 이때 수용액에 녹아 있는 입자들이 응집되어 특정 형상의 입자가 형성된다. 이 방법은 자가조립 (Self-assembly)에 의한 나노입자 합성 방법으로 이때 제조된 금속 및 반도체 나노입자의 크기 및 형상은 사용하는 계면활성제의 종류와 농도로 조절이 가능하다.
재료에 있어서 기공이란 어떠한 물질에 무수히 구멍이 뚫려 있다는 것을 의미하며 그 구멍의 크기에 따라 크게 마이크로포러스(microporous), 메조포러스(mesoporous) 및 마크로포러스(macroporous) 물질로 분류된다. 나노기공물질은 그중 마이크로포러스 물질과 본 발명의 중심이 되는 메조포러스 물질을 일컫는다. 특히, 메조포러스 물질은 기공의 크기를 다양하게 조절할 수 있고, 크기에 따라 알맞은 분자들을 선택적으로 흡착하거나 분리할 수 있으며, 고유의 표면 특성 및 촉매 활성 물질의 담지를 통해 석유화학에서 이용될 수 있다. 이러한 메조포러스 물질은 넓은 활용도로 인해 다양한 물질들이 소개되고 있으며, 그 응용도를 넓히고 있다. 1992년 Mobil사의 연구진에 의해 개발된 MCM-41, MCM-48의 경우, 전자현미경 사진으로 보면 기공의 크기가 나노미터 수준으로 매우 균일하며 그 배열이 일정한 것을 알 수 있다. 또한, 나노기공의 크기를 합성조건을 달리하면 1nm에서 30nm까지 정밀하게 조절할 수 있는 장점을 가지고 있다. 이들 물질의 합성은 나노기공을 연구하는 분야에 큰 패러다임이 되었고 이후 다양한 구조를 갖는 메조포러스 물질들이 합성되어 폭발적인 연구개발이 시작되었다.
일반적으로 메조포러스 물질들은 계면활성제나 양친매성 고분자(amphiphilic polymer)와 같은 유기 분자를 구조 물질로 사용하여 수열 반응을 통해 합성된다. 계면활성제나 양친매성 고분자는 친수성의 머리부분과 소수성의 꼬리부분으로 이루어져 있어 수용액 내에서 자기조립현상을 통해 다양한 구조의 마이셀(micelle) 또는 액정(liquid crystal)구조를 이룬다. 이렇게 형성된 거대분자들을 템플레이트로 사용하여 원하는 형태의 메조포러스 물질을 합성한다. 메조포러스 물질은 현재 촉매, 나노 촉매의 지지물, 흡착 및 분리, 센서 등 다양한 분야에서 응용되고 있다. 이러한 응용이 가능한 가장 중요한 특징은 목적에 따라 기공의 크기 및 구조를 조절할 수 있다는 것이다. MCM-41과 같은 일차원의 기공 구조를 갖는 물질은 금속 나노선 및 전도성 고분자 등과 같은 0차원, 1차원 형태의 나노물질을 제조하는 템플레이트로 사용하는데 적당하고, 나노기공들이 규칙적으로 육방 배열을 하고 있는 형태인 SBA-15은 또 다른 물질인 탄소로 이루어진 메조포러스 물질인 CMK-3를 만드는 데 이용된다. 마찬가지로 메조다공성 형태 (mesocellular foam) 물질인 MSU-F-Silca은 또 다른 물질인 탄소로 이루어진 메조다공성 형태의 MSU-F-C을 합성하는데 템플레이트로 사용된다. 계면활성제는 수용액의 농도나 온도에 따라 다양한 구조로 존재할 수 있기 때문에 이를 통해 구조나 기공 사이즈가 다른 메조포러스 물질을 합성할 수 있다. 특히 기공 크기를 조절하기 위한 가장 쉬운 방법은 계면활성제 소수성 꼬리 부분의 길이를 달리하는 것으로 소수성 꼬리부분이 길어질수록 기공의 크기는 점점 커지게 된다. 또한 소수성 꼬리부분의 길이에 따라 기공의 모양 및 형태가 달라지기 때문에 이 방법을 응용하면 다양한 구조의 메조포러스 물질들을 만들 수 있다.
주형 물질을 이용해 합성된 메조포러스 탄소는 Knox 그룹에 의해 처음 보고되었으며 (J. H. Knox, B. Kaur, G. R. Millward, Journal of Chromatography 352, 3, 1986), 메조포러스 실리카를 주형으로 사용하여 합성된 메조포러스 탄소는 2001년 유룡 등에 의해 처음 보고 되었다(한국 공개특허 2002-0084372). 메조포러스 탄소 물질은 기존 상용 탄소 물질과 다르게 마이크로 기공뿐 아니라 균일한 메조포러스 기공이 형성되어 있어 촉매의 지지체로 이용 시 반응물과 생성물의 확산에 중요한 역할을 한다. 계면활성제에 의한 soft template method를 이용하기도 하지만, 주로 nano-replication method를 사용하여 합성한다. 템플레이트로 단단한 메조포러스 실리카를 사용하기 때문에 hard template method라고 불리며 실리카 기공 안에 탄소 전구체를 넣고 탄화하는 과정을 거쳐 템플레이트를 제거하여 메조포러스 탄소체를 합성하는 방법이다.
종래 메조포러스 물질을 템플레이트로 이용한 나노입자의 합성방법으로는 SBA-15를 이용하여 제작한 메조포러스 탄소에 2.5nm의 팔라듐 나노입자를 형성시키는 방법(Claudia Zlotea, Fermin Cuevas, Vale´rie Paul-Boncour,Eric Leroy, Philippe Dibandjo, Roger Gadiou, Cathie Vix-Guterl, Michel Latroche, Journal of American Chemical Society 132, 7720, 2010)과, 메조포러스 탄소인 CMK-3에 다양한 유기물질을 표면처리하여 입자크기를 제어해서 두 금속의 합금 PtX(X=Bi, Pd, Pd, Ru) 나노입자를 메조포러스 물질의 기공에 형성시키는 방법이 있다(Xiulei Ji, Kyu Tae Lee, Reanne Holden, Lei Zhang, Jiujun Zhang, Gianluigi A. Botton, Martin Couillard, Linda F. Nazar, Nature Chemistry 2, 286, 2010). 또한, 표면이 아미노(-NH2) 작용기가 형성되어 있는 메조포러스 실리카에 금 나노입자를 모세관 현상을 이용하여 표면에 형성시키거나(Jing-Yue Fang, Shi-Qiao Qin, Sheng-Li Chang, Xue-Ao Zhang, Microporous and Mesoporous Materials 145, 205, 2011), SBA-15 메조포러스 실리카 표면에 팔라듐 나노입자를 형성시켜 불균일 촉매로 사용하는 기술이 있다.
그러나, 상기 종래 나노입자 형성기술들은 메조포러스 물질에 나노입자를 형성시키는 방법으로 템플레이트로 사용되는 메조포러스 물질 내부에 나노입자가 포함되어 있어 선택적으로 템플레이트를 제거하기가 어렵다. 특히, 고온 열처리에 의한 템플레이트 제거방법을 사용할 경우, 형성된 나노입자들이 신터링(sintering)에 의해 재결합하여 큰 입자를 형성하거나 지지체로 사용한 메조포러스 물질과 화학적인 반응 및 결합에 의해 본래 의도했던 물질의 나노입자가 아닌 다른 화학조성을 갖는 나노입자가 형성될 가능성이 있다. 화학적인 식각방법을 통해 템플레이트를 제거할 경우, 식각속도에 따른 식각제 선택의 어려움이 있으며, 선택적인 식각이 되더라도 식각제가 나노입자의 표면구조에 영향을 미치거나 화학적인 오염이 수반될 수 있는 여지가 있다. 특히 온전한 나노입자 만을 형성시켜 이용할 필요가 있을 경우, 메조포러스 구조 물질 내부에 있는 나노입자를 추출하기 위해서는 적어도 나노입자의 형성과정과 템플레이트 제거과정 등 2개의 별도의 공정이 필요한 단점이 있다.
전술한 나노입자 제조 방법 중, 계면활성제를 이용해 원하는 나노입자를 합성하는 기술은 별도의 템플레이트가 필요하지 않지만, 표면안정화 물질인 계면활성제가 3차원 구조로 나노입자 표면에 화학적으로 흡착하여 대부분의 나노입자 활성점이 차단된다. 이로 인해 나노촉매로 이용하기 위한 별도의 계면활성제 제거작업을 거쳐야 하며, 전자소재에 활용하기 위해서는 전극소재와 전기적 접촉이 저하될 수 있기 때문에 마찬가지로 계면활성제 제거작업이 필요하다. 계면활성제 제거를 위해서는 고온의 열처리가 필요하기 때문에 나노입자의 신터링, 화학적 조성의 변화가 야기될 소지가 있다.
이러한 배경 하에서, 본 발명자들은 나노입자의 신터링 및 지지체와의 화학적 반응을 피하면서도, 단순한 공정으로 나노입자를 제조하는 방법에 대하여 연구하던 중, 다공성 탄소물질을 템플레이트로 사용하여 금속 함유 입자 제조시, 분해되면 산화가스가 생성되는 금속 함유 전구체를 사용하면서 소성 조건을 조절하면 나노입자 생성 및 탄소물질 템플레이트 제거를 동시에 이룰 수 있고 순도 높은 나노입자를 수득할 수 있음을 확인하였다.
본 발명의 목적은, 분해되면 산화가스가 생성되는 금속 함유 전구체가 기공 내 적용된 다공성 탄소 물질을 준비하는 제1 단계; 산화분위기 하에서 상기 준비된 다공성 탄소 물질을 상기 금속 함유 전구체의 분해 온도 또는 그 이상으로 열처리함으로써, 다공성 탄소 물질의 기공을 주형으로 하여 상기 금속 함유 전구체로부터 입자를 형성시키면서 동시에 탄소물질을 제거하는 제2 단계를 포함하는, 금속 함유 입자의 제조 방법을 제공하는 것이다.
본 발명의 다른 목적은 금속 함유 전구체가 기공 내 적용된 다공성 탄소 물질을 준비하는 제1 단계; 불활성 분위기 하에서 상기 준비된 다공성 탄소 물질을 상기 금속 함유 전구체의 분해 온도 이상 내지 탄소 물질의 열분해 온도 미만의 온도로 열처리함으로써, 다공성 탄소물질 제거 없이 다공성 탄소 물질의 기공을 주형으로 하여 상기 기공 내에 상기 금속 함유 전구체로부터 입자를 형성시키는 제2 단계를 포함하는, 금속 함유 입자의 제조방법을 제공하는 것이다.
본 발명의 또다른 목적은 분해되면 산화가스가 생성되는 금속 함유 전구체가 적용된 탄소 물질을 준비하는 제1 단계; 및 산화분위기 하에서 상기 준비된 탄소 물질을 상기 금속 함유 전구체의 분해 온도로 열처리하는 제2 단계를 포함하여, 탄소 물질의 열분해 온도 이하에서 탄소물질을 제거하는 방법을 제공하는 것이다.
본 발명의 다른 목적은 분해되면 산화가스가 생성되는 금속 함유 전구체가 기공 내 적용된 다공성 탄소 물질을 제공하는 것이다.
이하 본 발명을 자세히 설명한다.
본 발명에서 "산화가스"는 다른 물질을 산화시키는 산화력을 갖는 가스이다. 산화가스의 비제한적인 예로는 산소 또는 산소 함유 혼합물 뿐만 아니라 산소를 발생시키는 물질, F2, Cl2, Br2, I2와 같은 할로겐 가스가 있다. 산소를 발생하는 물질의 비제한적인 예로는 HNO3, H2SO4, KMnO4, H2O2와 등이 있다. 또한 FeCl3, SnCl4과 같은 원자가가 큰 금속 이온에 의해 산화가스가 형성될 수 있다.
본 발명은 분해되면 산화가스가 생성되는 금속함유 전구체를 사용하고 산화 분위기 하에서 열처리하면, 상기 금속함유 전구체로부터 발생되는 산화가스에 의해 탄소물질이 기존 온도, 즉 탄소물질의 열분해 온도 보다 낮은 온도에서 제거되는 것을 발견한 것에 기초한다.
본 발명의 제1양태는 분해되면 산화가스가 생성되는 금속 함유 전구체가 기공 내 적용된 다공성 탄소 물질을 준비하는 제1 단계; 산화분위기 하에서 상기 준비된 다공성 탄소 물질을 상기 금속 함유 전구체의 분해 온도 또는 그 이상으로 열처리함으로써, 다공성 탄소 물질의 기공을 주형으로 하여 상기 금속 함유 전구체로부터 입자를 형성시키면서 동시에 탄소물질을 제거하는 제2 단계를 포함하는, 금속 함유 입자의 제조 방법을 제공한다.
상기 제1 단계는 분해되면 산화가스가 생성되는 금속 함유 전구체가 기공 내 적용된 다공성 탄소 물질을 준비하는 단계이다.
분해되면 산화가스가 생성되는 금속함유 전구체는, 분해시 산화가스를 발생시킬 수 있는 모든 금속원소의 수용성 전구체 또는 지용성 전구체를 포함한다. 상기 금속함유 전구체는 수용성 전구체로 금속의 산화물염, 옥시수산화물염, 염화물염, 탄산염, 초산염, 시트르산염, 니토로실질산염, 질산염. 수산화염. 옥살산염, 카르복시산염, 황산염 등, 지용성 전구체로 탄화수소가 포함된 알콕시 전구체. 암모늄 전구체 등을 포함하지만 이에 제한되지 않는다. 분해시 산화가스를 발생시킬 수 있는 전구체라면 제한 없이 사용 가능하다. 상기 금속 함유 전구체는 금속의 산화물, 수산화물, 옥시수산화물, 질산염, 염화물, 탄산염, 초산염, 옥살산염, 시트르산염, 황산염, nitrosylnitrate(NO(NO3)2)또는 이들의 혼합물일 수 있다.
또한, 상기 금속함유 전구체는 알칼리금속, 알칼리 토금속, IB족, IIB족, IIIB족, IVB족, VB족, VIB족, VIIB족 및 VIIIB족의 모든 금속을 포함할 수 있다. 상기 금속함유 전구체에서 금속은 금속 촉매 또는 금속 산화물 촉매에 사용되는 금속인 것이 바람직하고, 이의 비제한적인 예로는 코발트(Co), 니켈(Ni), 구리(Cu), 철(fe), 아연(Zn), 루테늄(Ru), 몰리브덴(Mo), 텅스텐(W), 비스무스(Bi), 레니윰(Re), 로듐(Rh), 팔라듐(Pd), 은(Ag), 백금(Pt) 또는 이의 조합일 수 있다.
다공성 물질은 물질 기공(pore) 크기에 따라 마이크로포러스(microporous), 메조포러스(mesoporous) 물질로 나뉘는데, 통상 기공 크기가 2 nm 이하인 경우 마이크로포러스, 기공 크기가 2 내지 50 nm 사이인 경우를 메조포러스라고 한다. 본 발명의 다공성 탄소 물질은 기공의 크기에 제한되지 아니하나, 나노수준의 금속 함유 입자 제조를 위해 메조포러스 탄소 물질인 것이 바람직하다.
본 발명의 다공성 탄소 물질은 기공 평균 입경이 1 내지 50nm 이고, 표면적이 100 m2g-1 내지 2000 m2g-1 사이일 수 있으나 표면적이 넓을수록 나노입자의 함유량은 더 커진다. 만일, 기공 평균 입경이 1nm 보다 작은 경우 기공 크기가 분자수준에 불과하여, 더 큰 크기의 분자에 대한 응용에는 사용할 수 없는 단점이 있다. 또한, 기공 평균 입경이 50 nm보다 큰 경우, 생성되는 금속 함유 입자의 크기가 커지므로 바람직하지 않다.
본 발명에서, 상기 다공성 물질은 탄소나노튜브, CMK-3, CMK-8, MSU-F-C, 활성탄(acticated carbon), 흑연 섬유, 활성 탄소 섬유 또는 이의 혼합물일 수 있으나 이에 제한되지 않는다.
"탄소나노튜브"는 6각형 고리로 연결된 탄소들이 긴 대롱 모양을 이루어 만들어진, 지름 0.5nm 내지 10nm의 원통형 탄소 결정체일 수 있다. 본 발명에 탄소나노튜브는 단일벽 탄소나노튜브 또는 다중벽 탄소나노튜브일 수 있다.
"CMK-3"는 메조포러스 실리카인 SBA-15로부터 합성된 것으로, 육각모양의 기공과 축 방향으로 긴 실린더 모양을 갖는 다공성 탄소물질이다. "CMK-8"은 실리카 메조포러스 실리카인 KIT-6으로부터 합성된 것으로, 두 종류의 메조 기공들이 서로 독립적으로 삼차원적으로 연결된 입방 구조의 다공성 탄소물질이다. 또한, "MSU-F-C"는 메조포러스 실리카인 "MSU-F-silica"로부터 합성된 것으로서, 약 30 nm의 큰 기공과 기공 구조 사이에 4 내지 8 nm의 작은 기공을 갖는 메조셀룰러 구조의 다공성 탄소 물질이다.
"활성탄"은 흡착성이 강하고, 대부분의 구성물질이 탄소질로 된 물질이다. 흑연(Graphite)형상의 평면결정자가 복잡하게 조합된 무정형탄소로 되어 있고 다공질이며, 세공의 평균 반경이 1㎜ 내지 2㎜, 비표면적은 800㎡/g 내지 1500 ㎡/g이다.
본 발명은 나노수준의 크기의 금속함유 입자를 제조하는데 이용하는 것이 바람직하다. 본 발명에 따라 제조되는 입자의 크기는 템플릿으로 사용된 다공성 탄소 물질의 기공크기와 유사하거나 이보다 조금 클 수 있다. 기공 크기보다 조금 큰 나노입자가 생성되는 이유는, 표면 에너지가 높은 나노크기의 입자의 표면 에너지를 줄이기 위해 약간의 소결이 진행되었기 때문이다. 본 발명에 따라 제조되는 금속함유 입자의 크기는 사용되는 다공성 탄소 물질의 기공 크기에 의존하며, 평균 직경이 1 내지 50nm 사이일 수 있으나 이에 제한되지 않는다.
상기 제1 단계에서, 분해되면 산화가스가 생성되는 금속 함유 전구체가 기공내 적용된 다공성 탄소 물질은, 상기 금속 함유 전구체 용액을 다공성 탄소 물질의 기공 내 함침시킨 후 건조시켜 준비될 수 있다.
금속 함유 전구체 용액에 사용되는 용매는 금속 함유 전구체와 화학반응이 일어나지 않으면서 금속 함유 전구체로부터 산화가스가 분해되는 온도 이하에서 증발할 수 있는 한 그 종류는 제한되지 않는다. 상기 용매의 비제한적인 예로는 C1~C6 알콜(예, 에탄올), 물, 에테르 계열, 케톤(예, 아세톤), 사슬형 탄화수소(예, n-헥산) 등이 있다.
이때, 상기 함침은 상온에서 실시될 수 있다. 함침시, 모세관 힘을 최대한 이용하며, 함침이 잘 되지 않는 경우 필요에 따라 진공분위기를 적용하거나 초음파처리 등의 방법을 병행할 수 있다. 함침시 진공 분위기를 적용하는 경우, 진공으로 인해 물질에 함유되어 있는 공기나 수분 등이 완전히 제거되므로 함침량을 증가시킬 수 있다.
상기 함침 시, 금속 함유 전구체 용액은 다공성 탄소 물질에 대해 금속 함유 전구체 중 금속의 질량비가 1% 내지 500%일 수 있다. 원하는 질량비로 함침시키기 위해, 함침은 한번의 단계로 실시되거나 또는 2번 이상의 함침 단계를 통해 함침될 수 있으나, 이에 제한되는 것은 아니다.
상기 제1 단계에서, 함침 후 건조온도는 100℃ 내지 150℃일 수 있다. 상기 건조 온도는 금속 함유 전구체 용액에서 사용된 용매에 따라 달라진다.
상기 제 2단계에서, 산화분위기는 산화가스, 또는 산화가스와 불활성 가스의 조합으로 이루어진 혼합가스로 열처리하는 것일 수 있으나, 이에 제한되지 않는다. 이때, 산화가스는 산소, 산화질소(NO, NO2), 공기 또는 이의 조합일 수 있으나 이에 제한되지 않는다. 상기 주입된 산화가스는, 금속 함유 전구체의 분해로부터 발생한 산화가스와 함께, 낮은 온도에서 탄소물질을 제거하는데 기여한다.
상기 불활성가스는, 질소, 헬륨, 아르곤 또는 이의 조합일 수 있으나 이에 제한되지 않는다. 상기 불활성 가스는 혼합가스의 이동을 촉진하는 캐리어 가스로서의 역할을 함과 동시에, 산화가스의 농도를 조절하는 역할을 한다.
상기 2단계에서, 열처리 온도는 250℃ 내지 450℃일 수 있다. 이는 일반적인탄소물질의 열분해 온도인 550℃에 비하여 낮은 온도이다. 금속 함유 전구체의 분해로부터 발생한 산화가스와 주입된 산화가스의 상호작용으로, 탄소 물질은 기존 열분해 온도보다 낮은 온도인 250℃ 내지 450℃에서 제거될 수 있다. 본 발명에 따라 분해되면 산화가스가 생성되는 금속 함유 전구체를 사용하고 산화 분위기하에서 소성하면, 탄소의 열분해 온도보다 낮은 온도에서 탄소 물질을 제거할 수 있기 때문에, 고온의 제거과정에서 일어날 수 있는 금속 함유 입자의 신터링 및 지지체와의 상호작용, 화학적, 물리적 변화를 막을 수 있다. 또한, 본 발명에 따른 제조방법은 금속 함유 입자 생성 단계 및 탄소 물질 제거 단계를 동시에 이루어지도록 하여 비용 및 시간을 절감할 수 있다.
상기 2단계에서, 열처리시 처리되는 산화가스의 유속은 가스 시간당 공간속도(GHSV)로 측정되며 0 hr-1 내지 10000 hr-1 인 것이 바람직하다. 이때, 0 hr-1는 일정 유속을 갖지 않는 상태의 분위기 및 정체된 산화가스 분위기를 의미한다. 이러한 정체되어 있는 분위기에서도 산화상태의 금속입자 및 탄소 지지체의 제거가 가능하다. 산화가스의 유속이 10000 hr-1을 넘는 경우, 탄소 물질과의 접촉시간이 불충분하여 탄소물질이 충분히 제거되지 않을 수 있다.
상기 2단계에서 형성된 입자는 금속 산화물이고, 이후 금속 산화물을 환원처리 하여 금속입자를 형성할 수 있다. 상기 환원처리는 선택적 과정으로, 환원은 당업자에게 알려진 통상의 방법을 사용할 수 있다. 상기 금속 함유 입자는 피셔-트롭시 합성용 촉매 또는 이의 전구체일 수 있다.
한편, 본 발명에서 다공성 탄소 물질에 상기 금속 함유 전구체를 적용시키는 단계(제1 단계) 및 산화분위기 하에서 열처리 하는 단계(제2 단계)는 동시에 수행될 수도 있다.
본 발명에 따른, 금속 함유 입자의 형성 및 탄소 물질의 제거를 위한 소성과정에서, 금속 함유 입자의 표면이 일부 환원되기 때문에, 본 발명에 따라 제조된 금속 함유 입자는 기존 함침법이나 공침, 증착등에 의해 제조된 입자보다 격자산소(lattice oxygen) 대비 표면산소(surface adsorbed oxygen)의 비율이 낮다. 이와 같은 표면 산소 비율의 감소는 입자의 환원성을 개선하고, 보다 낮은 온도에서 입자의 환원을 가능하게 한다.
예컨대, 본 발명에 따라 제조된 금속 함유 입자가 금속 산화물인 경우, 다공성 탄소 물질의 환원 작용으로 입자 표면에 산화 결핍이 유도되어 높은 환원성을 보이게 되고, 이로 인해 금속 산화물이 저온에서 환원가능하여 금속 입자의 화학적, 물리적 변화를 막을 수 있다.
또한, 본 발명의 제2양태는 금속 함유 전구체가 기공 내 적용된 다공성 탄소 물질을 준비하는 제1 단계; 불활성 분위기 하에서 상기 준비된 다공성 탄소 물질을 상기 금속 함유 전구체의 분해 온도 이상 내지 탄소 물질의 열분해 온도 미만의 온도로 열처리함으로써, 다공성 탄소물질 제거 없이 다공성 탄소 물질의 기공을 주형으로 하여 상기 기공 내에 상기 금속 함유 전구체로부터 입자를 형성시키는 제2 단계를 포함하는, 금속 함유 입자를 제조하는 방법을 제공한다.
이때, 상기 금속 함유 전구체는 분해되면 산화가스가 생성되는 금속 함유 전구체일 수 있다. 상기 불활성 분위기는 불활성가스로 이루어지며, 불활성가스는 질소, 헬륨, 아르곤 또는 이의 조합일 수 있으나 이에 제한되지 않는다.
상기 금속 함유 전구체의 분해 온도 이상 내지 탄소 물질의 열분해 온도 미만의 온도는, 탄소 물질의 열분해 온도인 약 550도 미만의 온도를 의미한다. 금속 함유 전구체의 분해 온도는 사용되는 전구체의 온도에 따라 달라질 수 있다.
불활성 분위기 및 탄소 물질 열분해 온도 미만의 온도로 열처리 되기 때문에, 상기 제조방법에 따른 금속 함유 입자는 탄소물질 지지체가 제거되지 않고 탄소물질의 기공에 담지된 형태로 얻어진다. 이렇게 탄소물질에 담지된 금속 함유 입자는 탄소물질의 기공크기와 유사한 일정한 나노크기 및 높은 분산성을 가져, 촉매, 흡착 및/또는 분리 등의 용도로 유용하게 사용될 수 있다.
그외 본 발명의 제2양태에서 사용되는 용어는 본 발명의 제1양태에서 사용되는 용어와 동일 또는 유사하다.
나아가, 본 발명의 제3양태는 분해되면 산화가스가 생성되는 금속 함유 전구체가 적용된 탄소 물질을 준비하는 제1 단계; 및 산화분위기 하에서 상기 준비된 탄소 물질을 상기 금속 함유 전구체의 분해 온도로 열처리하는 제2 단계를 포함하여, 탄소 물질의 열분해 온도 이하에서 탄소물질을 제거하는 방법을 제공한다.
이때, 탄소물질은 특정한 구조로 제한되지 않는다. 금속 함유 전구체를 적용할 수 있는 구조라면 무엇이든 제한 없이 사용 가능하다. 상기 탄소 물질은 다공성 구조일 수 있으며, 금속 함유 전구체가 다공성 구조 안에 함침될 수 있다.
본 발명의 제3양태에서 사용되는 용어는 본 발명의 제1양태에서 사용되는 용어와 동일 또는 유사하다.
또한, 본 발명의 제4양태는 분해되면 산화가스가 생성되는 금속 함유 전구체가 기공 내 적용된 다공성 탄소 물질을 제공한다.
상기 다공성 탄소 물질은 본 발명에 따른 금속 함유 입자 제조 방법 또는 탄소 물질 제거 방법에 사용되는 중간체일 수 있다.
본 발명에 따른 금속 함유 입자 제조 방법은 저온 열처리를 통해 탄소물질 지지체의 기공을 주형으로 하여 금속 함유 입자를 형성함과 동시에 탄소물질을 효과적으로 제거할 수 있다. 본 발명에 따른 금속 함유 입자 제조 방법은 저온 열처리로 탄소물질 지지체를 제거함으로써, 나노입자의 신터링 및 지지체와의 화학적 반응을 피하면서도, 단순한 공정으로 순도 높은 나노입자를 제조할 수 있게 한다.

이하, 실시예를 통하여 본 발명을 더욱 상세히 설명하고자 한다. 이들 실시예는 본 발명을 보다 구체적으로 설명하기 위한 것으로, 본 발명의 범위가 이들 실시예에 의해 제한되는 것은 아니다.
실시예 1~2: 메조포러스 탄소 물질 및 코발트 질산염을 이용한 나노입자의 형성
메조포러스 탄소 물질로는 SBA-15 틀로부터 합성된 CMK-3와, MSU-F-silica에서 합성된 MSU-F-C를 사용하였다. 상기 물질의 기공 크기 및 BET 표면적은 표 1에 나타내었다.

CMK-3는 육각모양의 기공과 축 방향으로 긴 실린더 모양을 가진다. MSU-F-C은 메조셀룰러 구조로 약 30nm의 큰 기공과, 상기 기공구조 사이에 4~8nm의 작은 기공을 갖는다. 나노입자 전구체는 코발트질산염 (Cobalt nitrate hexahydrate, Co(NO3)2 6H2O)을 사용하였으며, 용매로는 에탄올을 사용하였다.
탄소 지지체 사용 전, 표면에 잔존하는 이물질과 기공 안에 존재할 수 있는 습기를 제거하기 위해 오븐에서 150℃, 12시간 동안 건조하였다. 메조포러스 탄소 지지체의 질량은 1.0g, 코발트 전구체는 1.235g을 사용하였다. 탄소 지지체와 코발트 전구체 용액을 충분히 섞은 후, 진공 증발기에서 2 시간 이상, 내부온도 70 내지 90℃에서 용매를 충분히 증발시켰다. 만들어진 혼합물을 110℃의 전기오븐에서 12시간 이상 건조하였다. 건조된 혼합물을 100 sccm 유속의 공기가 주입되는 소성로에서 반응온도 400℃에서 5시간 동안 가열하였다.
상기 표 1의 기공크기 및 표면적을 갖는 메조포러스 탄소 지지체를 이용하여 제작된 나노입자는 CMK-3의 경우 6nm 내지 10nm이며, MSU-F-C의 경우 10nm 내지 16nm으로 Co3O4의 조성을 갖는 코발트 산화물의 나노입자가 생성되는 것을 확인하였다. 기공크기보다 다소 큰 나노입자가 생성되었는데, 이는 표면에너지가 높은 나노크기의 입자가 표면에너지를 줄이기 위해 약간의 신터링이 진행된 것으로 판단된다. 소성 완료시 메조포러스 탄소지지체는 완전히 제거되었으며, 산화상태의 나노입자만 남아있음을 확인하였다.
비교예 1-4: 탄소지지체의 제거 원인 분석
열중량 분석기(TGA, Thermogravimetric analysis)를 사용하여 메조포러스 탄소지지체가 제거되는 원인을 살펴 보았다. 상기 실시예 1~2와 다르게 탄소지지체만을 이용하여 공기 중에 온도를 증가시키면서 열분해에 의한 중량의 변화를 확인하였다. 상기 실험 결과를 하기 표 2에 나타내었다. 또한, 비교예 1 내지 4의 열중량 분석 결과 그래프를 도 2(비교예 1-2) 및 도 3(비교예 3-4)에 나타내었다.

표 2에 나타난 바와 같이 CMK-3, MSU-F-C 모두 500℃ 이후 공기 중 열분해가 시작되고, 630℃에서 완전히 분해가 되었다(비교예 1~2). 탄소지지체 자체는 실시예 1~2의 소성온도에서 분해되지 않지만, 나노입자 전구체가 담지되었을 경우 실제 탄소지지체 자체의 열분해온도보다 300℃ 정도 낮은 온도에서 분해되어 제거됨을 확인할 수 있었다.
탄소지지체가 낮은 온도에서 분해되는 이유가 나노입자 전구체의 분해에 의해 나오는 잔여 가스에 의한 것인지, 분해 이후 생성된 금속 산화물 나노입자가 촉매로 작용한 것에 의한 것인지 알아보기 위해, 상용 코발트 산화물 CoO, Co3O4 (Sigma-Aldrich, purity >99%)를 메조포러스 탄소 지지체와 물리적으로 혼합하여 열중량 분석기로 메조포러스 탄소 지지체의 분해 온도를 측정하였다(비교예 3~4).
상기 표 2에서 나타난 것처럼 메조포러스 탄소 지지체 만의 열분해 온도와 거의 동일한 범위 (500~630℃)에서 열분해에 의한 무게의 감소가 나타난 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 이는 생성된 금속 산화물 나노입자에 의해 탄소지지체 분해 온도가 낮아진 게 아님을 보여준다. 이는 비교예 1,2의 열중량 분석 결과를 나타낸 도 2와, 비교예 3,4의 열중량 분석 결과를 나타낸 도 3의 비교로도 알 수 있다. 도 2와 도 3의 열중량 분석 결과가 거의 유사하므로, 탄소지지체가 낮은 온도에서 분해되는 이유가, 생성된 산화물 나노입자가 촉매로 작용한 것이 아님을 확인할 수 있었다. 따라서, 탄소 지지체의 분해는 코발트 전구체가 열분해되면서 생기는 잔존가스(residual gas)와 산화가스 분위기에 의해 보다 낮은 온도에서 일어나는 것을 확인하였다.
실시예 3-4: 메조포러스 탄소물질 및 코발트 아세트산 염 또는 염화 코발트를 이용한 나노입자의 형성
코발트 전구체로 염화코발트(Cobalt chloride(II), CoCl2), 코발트 아세트산 (Cobalt acetate tetrahydrate, Co(CH3COO)2 4H2O)을 사용하여 CMK-3에 담지시킨 것을 제외하고는 실시예 1과 동일한 방법으로 나노 입자를 제조하였다. 이때, 메조포러스 탄소 지지체 1.0g 에 염화코발트 전구체 0.551g, 코발트 아세트산 전구체 0.751g을 각각 담지하였다.
열중량 분석기를 통해 분해 온도를 하기 표 3 및 도 4에 나타내었다.

도 4에 나타낸 바와 같이 아세트산염 전구체를 사용한 경우 200℃ 부근에서 탄소지지체의 열분해가 시작되고 330℃에서 380℃에서 분해의 정체가 생기고 400℃ 이후 다시 2차 분해가 일어나 완전히 열분해되는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 염화 코발트 전구체를 사용한 경우, 350℃ 부근에서 탄소지지체의 열분해가 시작되고 450℃에서 대부분의 탄소지지체가 열분해되는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 이 같은 결과 역시 상기 비교예 1의 탄소지지체 자체 열분해 온도보다 낮으며, 전구체가 분해되면서 나오는 잔존가스(residual gas)와 산화가스 분위기에 의해 메조포러스 탄소지지체가 분해된 것임을 확인할 수 있었다.
실시예 5-6: 탄소 지지체가 제거되지 않은 나노입자의 형성
비활성 가스 분위기에서 소성하는 것을 제외하고는 실시예 1~2와 동일한 방법으로 나노입자를 제조하였다. 비활성 가스 분위기에서 소성하기 위해, 건조된 혼합물을 100 sccm 유속의 질소가 주입되는 튜브형 반응기에서 반응온도 400℃에서 5시간 동안 가열하였다.
비활성 가스 분위기에서 소성을 하면, 메조포러스 탄소 지지체는 그대로 유지되면서 지지체 기공 내에서 코발트 산화물 나노입자가 생기는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 비록 나노입자 전구체의 열분해에 의해 잔존가스가 존재 하지만 잔존가스만으로 메조포러스 탄소 지지체의 제거가 이루어지지 않음을 알 수 있었다. 즉, 나노입자 전구체의 열분해에 의한 잔존가스와 산화분위기에서 열처리 조건이 동시에 충족이 되어야 저온에서 메조포러스 탄소 템플레이트의 효과적인 제거가 이루어짐을 확인하였다.
비활성 가스 분위기에서 생성된 코발트 산화물 나노입자의 조성은 화학양론적으로 Co3O4 보다 CoO가 유리하며, 그 크기는 기공 내의 크기에 크게 의존한다. CMK-3 템플레이트에 담지된 코발트 산화물 나노입자는 3nm 내지 6nm의 크기를 가지며, MSU-F-C에 담지된 코발트 산화물 나노입자는 8nm 내지 15nm의 크기를 갖는 것을 확인하였으며, 기공 내에서 입자가 생성되는 것을 확인하였다.

Claims (21)

  1. 분해되면 산화가스가 생성되는 금속 함유 전구체가 기공 내 적용된 다공성 탄소 물질을 준비하는 제1 단계;
    산화분위기 하에서 상기 준비된 다공성 탄소 물질을 상기 금속 함유 전구체의 분해 온도 또는 그 이상으로 열처리함으로써, 다공성 탄소 물질의 기공을 주형으로 하여 상기 금속 함유 전구체로부터 입자를 형성시키면서 동시에 탄소물질을 제거하는 제2 단계를 포함하는,
    금속 함유 입자의 제조 방법.
  2. 제1항에 있어서, 상기 제2단계에서 산화분위기는 산화가스, 또는 산화가스와 불활성 가스의 조합으로 이루어진 혼합가스로 열처리하는 것이 특징인 방법.
  3. 제1항에 있어서, 상기 다공성 탄소 물질은 메소포러스 탄소 물질이고, 금속 함유 입자는 나노 수준의 입자인 것이 특징인 방법.
  4. 제1항에 있어서, 상기 다공성 탄소 물질은 기공 평균 입경이 1 ~ 50nm이고, 표면적이 100 m2g-1 ~ 2000 m2g-1 인 것이 특징인 방법.
  5. 제1항에 있어서, 상기 다공성 탄소 물질은 탄소나노튜브, CMK-3, CMK-8, MSU-F-C, 활성탄(activated carbon), 흑연 섬유, 활성 탄소 섬유 또는 이들의 혼합물인 것이 특징인 방법.
  6. 제1항에 있어서, 분해되면 산화가스가 생성되는 금속 함유 전구체가 기공 내 적용된 다공성 탄소 물질은, 상기 금속 함유 전구체 용액을 다공성 탄소 물질의 기공 내 함침시킨 후 건조시켜 준비된 것이 특징인 방법.
  7. 제1항에 있어서, 상기 금속 함유 전구체는 금속의 산화물염, 옥시수산화물염, 염화물염, 탄산염, 초산염, 시트르산염, 니토로실질산염, 질산염. 수산화염. 옥살산염, 카르복시산염, 황산염 등으로 이루어진 군으로부터 선택되는 수용성 전구체, 또는 탄화수소가 포함된 알콕시 전구체. 암모늄 전구체 등으로 이루어진 군으로부터 선택되는 지용성 전구체인 것이 특징인 방법.
  8. 제1항에 있어서, 상기 금속 함유 전구체는 코발트(Co), 니켈(Ni), 구리(Cu), 철(fe), 아연(Zn), 루테늄(Ru), 몰리브덴(Mo), 텅스텐(W), 비스무스(Bi), 레니윰(Re), 로듐(Rh), 팔라듐(Pd), 은(Ag), 백금(Pt)으로 이루어진 군으로부터 선택되는 금속을 포함하는 것이 특징인 방법.
  9. 제6항에 있어서, 상기 금속 함유 전구체 용액은 다공성 탄소 물질에 대해 금속 함유 전구체 중 금속의 질량 비가 1% 내지 500%인 것이 특징인 방법.
  10. 제2항에 있어서, 상기 산화 가스는 산소, 산화질소 (NO, NO2), 공기, 또는 이의 조합인 것이 특징인 방법.
  11. 제2항에 있어서, 상기 비활성 가스는 질소, 헬륨, 아르곤 또는 이의 조합인 것이 특징인 방법.
  12. 제6항에 있어서, 건조온도는 100℃ 내지 150℃인 것이 특징인 방법.
  13. 제1항에 있어서, 제2 단계에서 열처리 온도는 250℃ 내지 450℃인 것이 특징인 방법.
  14. 제2항에 있어서, 제2 단계에서 열처리시 처리되는 산화가스의 유속은 가스 시간당 공간속도(GHSV)로 측정되며 0 hr-1 (일정 유속을 갖지 않는 상태의 분위기 및 정체된 산화가스 분위기) 내지 10000 hr-1인 것이 특징인 방법.
  15. 제1항에 있어서, 제2 단계에서 형성된 입자는 금속산화물이고, 이후 금속 산화물을 환원처리하여 금속 입자를 형성시키는 것이 특징인 방법.
  16. 제1항에 있어서, 금속 함유 입자는 피셔-트롭시 합성용 촉매 또는 이의 전구체인 것이 특징인 방법.
  17. 제1항 내지 제16항 중 어느 한 항에 있어서, 다공성 탄소 물질에 상기 금속 함유 전구체를 적용시키는 단계와 산화분위기 하에서 열처리하는 단계가 동시에 수행되는 것이 특징인 방법.
  18. 금속 함유 전구체가 기공 내 적용된 다공성 탄소 물질을 준비하는 제1 단계;
    불활성 분위기 하에서 상기 준비된 다공성 탄소 물질을 상기 금속 함유 전구체의 분해 온도 이상 내지 탄소 물질의 열분해 온도 미만의 온도로 열처리함으로써, 다공성 탄소물질 제거 없이 다공성 탄소 물질의 기공을 주형으로 하여 상기 기공 내에 상기 금속 함유 전구체로부터 입자를 형성시키는 제2 단계를 포함하는,
    금속 함유 입자를 제조하는 방법.
  19. 제18항에 있어서, 상기 금속 함유 전구체는 분해되면 산화가스가 생성되는 금속 함유 전구체인 것이 특징인 금속 함유 입자를 제조하는 방법.
  20. 분해되면 산화가스가 생성되는 금속 함유 전구체가 적용된 탄소 물질을 준비하는 제1 단계; 및
    산화분위기 하에서 상기 준비된 탄소 물질을 상기 금속 함유 전구체의 분해 온도로 열처리하는 제2 단계를 포함하여,
    탄소 물질의 열분해 온도 이하에서 탄소물질을 제거하는 방법.
  21. 분해되면 산화가스가 생성되는 금속 함유 전구체가 기공 내 적용된 다공성 탄소 물질.
