Description
本発明は、電子写真方式が採用される画像形成装置に用いられる現像装置に関する。
電子写真方式の画像形成装置として、静電潜像が形成される感光体と、トナーを担持し、感光体に供給して静電潜像を現像する現像ローラを備えるものが知られており、現像ローラとして、ブラシローラが提案されている。
そのようなブラシローラは、静電気植毛によってローラの表面に短繊維を植毛することにより製造される(例えば、特許文献1参照)。
しかるに、静電気植毛に用いられる短繊維は、飛昇性を確保するために、電着処理剤で表面が電着処理される。特許文献1に記載のブラシローラでは、電着処理剤として、親水性のコロイダルシリカが用いられている。
しかし、特許文献1のように作製されたブラシローラでは、高温高湿環境下において、トナーの帯電不良を生じる場合がある。
トナーの帯電が不十分であると、トナーが感光体に供給されたときに、静電潜像以外の部分に飛散し、かぶりと呼ばれる印刷不良が発生する。
そこで、本発明の目的は、高温高湿環境下においても、安定して画像形成することができる現像装置を提供することにある。
(1)上記目的を達成するために、本発明の現像装置は、芯材、および、芯材の周面に繊維部材が植毛されることにより形成されるブラシ部を備え、ブラシ部が現像剤を担持するように構成されるブラシローラを備える。
繊維部材は、非導電性の繊維が銅化合物にコーティングされることにより形成され、下記試験方法により測定される、ブラシ部の水分率が、5%以下である。
水分率の試験方法:
温度40℃、相対湿度10%において2時間乾燥させた後、ブラシローラの乾燥後質量Aを測定する。続いて、乾燥後のブラシローラを、温度32℃、相対湿度82%において12時間放置した後、ブラシローラの高温高湿後質量Bを測定する。そして、下記式(1)から水分率Dを算出する。
温度40℃、相対湿度10%において2時間乾燥させた後、ブラシローラの乾燥後質量Aを測定する。続いて、乾燥後のブラシローラを、温度32℃、相対湿度82%において12時間放置した後、ブラシローラの高温高湿後質量Bを測定する。そして、下記式(1)から水分率Dを算出する。

このような構成によれば、ブラシ部は、非導電性の繊維が銅化合物にコーティングされることにより形成される繊維部材からなり、その水分率が、5%以下に調整されている。
そのため、高温高湿環境下においても、安定して画像形成することができる。
(2)現像剤は、重合性単量体を重合させることにより調製されるケミカルトナーであってもよい。
このような構成によれば、優れた流動性を有するケミカルトナーを現像剤として使用しているので、ブラシローラに対する現像剤の担持量を容易に調節することができる。
そのため、より安定して画像形成することができる。
(3)現像剤は、正帯電性を有していてもよい。
このような構成によれば、現像剤が正帯電性である場合に、より安定して画像形成することができる。
(4)本発明の現像装置は、ブラシローラを回転可能となるように支持するケーシングと、ブラシ部に担持される現像剤の一部を掻き落とすことにより、ブラシ部における現像剤の担持量を規制するように構成される現像剤担持量規制部材とを、さらに備えてもよい。この場合、現像剤担持量規制部材は、ケーシングに固定される第1部分、および、第1部分からブラシローラ側に向かって延びる第2部分を有する本体部と、第2部分から芯材側に向かって突出することにより、ブラシ部内に侵入するように構成される規制部とを備えてもよい。
このような構成によれば、ブラシ部内に侵入した規制部により、ブラシ部に担持された現像剤の一部を確実に掻き落とすことができる。
その結果、ブラシ部に担持される現像剤の量を均一化することができ、より一層安定して画像形成することができる。
(5)本発明の現像装置は、規制部が侵入している部分におけるブラシローラの回転方向と、本体部の第1部分から第2部分に向かう方向とが、反対方向となるように構成されていてもよい。
このような構成によれば、現像剤担持量規制部材の規制部を確実にブラシ部に侵入させることができる。
その結果、ブラシ部に担持された現像剤の量を、確実に均一化することができる。

1.現像装置
本発明の現像装置2は、電子写真方式が採用される画像形成装置に装備される。現像装置2は、図1に示すように、画像形成装置内において、感光体3の前下側に配置されている。現像装置2は、ケーシングの一例としての筐体6を備えている。なお、現像装置2に関し、方向について言及する場合には、図1に示した矢印方向を基準とする。また、図1において、紙面手前側を左側とし、紙面奥側を右側とする。
本発明の現像装置2は、電子写真方式が採用される画像形成装置に装備される。現像装置2は、図1に示すように、画像形成装置内において、感光体3の前下側に配置されている。現像装置2は、ケーシングの一例としての筐体6を備えている。なお、現像装置2に関し、方向について言及する場合には、図1に示した矢印方向を基準とする。また、図1において、紙面手前側を左側とし、紙面奥側を右側とする。
筐体6は、後側が開放される略ボックス形状に形成されている。筐体6には、トナー収容室4と現像室5とが前後並んで配置されている。トナー収容室4と現像室5とは、互いに連通している。
トナー収容室4には、現像剤の一例としてのトナーが収容され、その前後上下方向略中央には、アジテータ7が設けられている。
現像室5には、パドル8と、ブラシローラ1と、現像剤担持量規制部材の一例としてのブレード9とが設けられている。
パドル8は、現像室5の前側に配置されている。
ブラシローラ1は、パドル8の後上側に配置され、その後上側部分が現像室5から露出するように、筐体6の後端部に回転可能に支持されている。ブラシローラ1は、左右方向に延びる略円柱形状に形成され、現像室5に回転可能に支持される芯材10と、芯材10の周面に繊維部材の一例としての導電性短繊維11が植毛されたブラシ部12とを備えている。ブラシローラ1は、導電性短繊維11が感光体3に接触されるように、感光体3に前下側から対向している。
ブレード9は、ブラシローラ1の前上側に配置されている。ブレード9は、ステンレスなどの金属からなり、上下左右に延びる略平板形状に形成されており、その上端部は現像室5の後上端部に固定されている。
ブレード9の下端部は、左右方向すべてにわたって後側に折り曲げられており、ブラシローラ1に前側から接触されている。
そして、画像形成装置に印刷ジョブが入力されると、トナー収容室4のトナーは、アジテータ7が回転することにより、攪拌され、現像室5に搬送される。
トナー収容室4から搬送されたトナーは、パドル8が回転することにより、ブラシローラ1に供給される。
パドル8に供給されたトナーは、ブラシローラ1の導電性短繊維11に一旦担持され、ブラシローラ1の左側面視反時計回りの回転に伴って、ブレード9によって一部が掻き落とされる。これにより、導電性短繊維11におけるトナーの担持量が規制される。
ブラシローラ1がさらに回転すると、ブレード9によって規制されたトナーは、感光体3に供給され、これにより、感光体3に形成されている静電潜像が現像される。
2.トナーの詳細
トナーは、正帯電性の非磁性一成分系の重合トナーである。正帯電性の非磁性一成分系の重合トナーは、ケミカルトナーの一例である。

このような重合トナーは、例えば、特開2008-186002号公報などに開示される方法により得られる。
より具体的には、このような重合トナーは、カチオン性基を有する重合性単量体と、その重合性単量体と共重合可能な重合性単量体との共重合により得られる帯電制御樹脂と、着色剤を含有するトナー母粒子とを液相中で融合させることにより得られる。
3.ブラシローラの詳細
ブラシローラ1は、芯材10に導電性短繊維11を植毛することにより得られる。

芯材10に導電性短繊維11を植毛するには、まず、非導電性の短繊維を銅化合物でコーティングして、導電性短繊維11を作製する。
非導電性の短繊維は、非導電性の合成樹脂などからなる繊維を切断することにより得られる。
非導電性の合成樹脂としては、例えば、ポリドデカンアミド(商品名:ナイロン12)、ポリエチレンテレフタレート、ポリプロピレンなどが挙げられる。
繊維の公定水分率は、JIS L0105:2006に開示される方法により測定され、例えば、1.5%以下、好ましくは、0.5%以下である。
また、繊維の直径は、5μm以上、好ましくは、10μm以上であり、例えば、50μm以下、好ましくは、30μm以下である。
また、繊維の線密度は、例えば、1d以上、好ましくは、2d以上であり、例えば、10d以下、好ましくは、6d以下である。
また、繊維の電気抵抗値(繊維の単位長さあたりの電気抵抗値)は、例えば、102Ω/cm以上、好ましくは、104Ω/cm以上であり、例えば、1012Ω/cm以下である。
繊維の電気抵抗値が、上記下限値未満であると、感光体3の電位が低下し、印字不良となる場合がある。また、繊維の電気抵抗値が、上記上限値以上であると、ブラシローラ1に電圧を印加しても、導電性短繊維11表面の電位が上がらず、トナーを十分に現像できなくなる。
繊維を切断するには、繊維を束ねてカッターなどで所定の繊維長に切断する。これにより、短繊維が得られる。
得られた短繊維の繊維長は、例えば、0.3mm以上、好ましくは、0.5mm以上で
あり、例えば、4.0mm以下、好ましくは、1.5mm以下である。

短繊維の直径が、上記上限値以下、かつ、上記下限値以上であれば、ブラシローラ1に好適な弾力を付与し、細い線を高品質で印刷することができる。
短繊維の繊維長および線密度が、上記上限値以下、かつ、上記下限値以上であれば、ブラシローラのブラシ毛として好適である。
銅化合物としては、例えば、第1硫化銅(Cu2S)、第2硫化銅(CuS)、ダイジェナイト(Cu9S5)などの硫化銅や、ヨウ化銅などが挙げられる。
そして、非導電性の短繊維を、例えば、特開平10-266067号公報に開示される方法などにより、銅化合物でコーティングする。
これにより、導電性短繊維11が得られる。
得られた導電性短繊維11の電気抵抗値は、例えば、102Ω/cm以上、好ましくは、104Ω/cm以上であり、例えば、1012Ω/cm以下、好ましくは、1010Ω/cm以下である。
また、得られた導電性短繊維11における銅化合物の膜厚は、例えば、0.1μm以上、好ましくは、0.3μm以上、例えば、2μm以下、好ましくは、1μm以下である。
なお、導電性短繊維11としては、市販されている導電性繊維を適用することもできる。市販されている導電性繊維としては、例えば、商品名サンダーロンシリーズ(日本蚕毛染色株式会社製)などが挙げられる。
次いで、芯材10に導電性短繊維11を植毛するには、接着剤が塗布された芯材10に、導電性短繊維11を電気的に付着させる。
芯材10は、例えば、アルミニウム、鉄、ステンレスなどの導電性を有する材料から、略円柱形状や略円筒形状に形成されている。
芯材10の直径は、例えば、3mm以上、好ましくは、5mm以上であり、例えば、30mm以下、好ましくは、25mm以下である。
芯材10の軸方向長さは、例えば、216mm幅印刷では、例えば、220mm以上、好ましくは、225mm以上であり、例えば、250mm以下、好ましくは、240mm以下である。
芯材10の周面に塗布される接着剤としては、例えば、アクリル系接着剤、ポリ酢酸ビニル系接着剤、ウレタン系接着剤、エポキシ系接着剤などが挙げられる。接着剤には、導電性を付与するために銀ペーストなどの導電性成分を練り込んでもよい。
接着剤の塗布方法としては、例えば、浸漬、噴霧などの公知の方法を用いることができる。
塗布された接着剤の厚みは、例えば、50μm以上、好ましくは、80μm以上であり、例えば、200μm以下、好ましくは、150μm以下である。
そして、導電性短繊維11を金属板の上に載置し、その後、芯材10と金属板とに、例えば、5kV以上、好ましくは、15kV以上、通常、100kV以下の直流高電圧を印加する。
これにより、芯材10と金属板との間に電界を発生させて、導電性短繊維11を芯材10に向かって移動させる。
同時に、芯材10を所定の回転速度で回転させて、導電性短繊維11を芯材10の周面に均一に付着させる。これにより、ブラシローラ1が得られる。
ブラシローラ1のブラシ部の水分率は、後述する実施例に記載の方法により測定され、5%以下、好ましくは、3%以下である。
4.ブレードの詳細
ブレード9は、図2に示すように、ステンレスなどから上下方向に延びる略平板形状に形成されている。ブレード9は、本体部の一例としてのブレード本体部21と、規制部22とを一体的に備えている。

ブレード本体部21は、その上端部、すなわち、第1部分の一例としての基端部24において、筐体6の上壁に固定され、その下端部、すなわち、第2部分の一例としての遊端部25がブラシローラ1の上端部に後側から対向されるように、下側に向かって延びている。なお、上記したように、画像形成動作において、ブラシローラ1は、左側面視反時計回り、すなわち、ブラシ部12のうち、規制部22が侵入している部分が下側から上側へ移動するように、回転される。つまり、ブレード9は、基端部24から遊端部25に向かって、ブラシ部12のうちの規制部22が侵入している部分の移動方向に対して反対方向に延びている。
規制部22は、ブレード本体部21の遊端部25から連続して、湾曲しながら芯材10に向かって延びている。規制部22の外周面の曲率半径Rは、導電性短繊維11の繊維長に相当するように、例えば、1mmに設定されている。すなわち、ブレード9には、ブレード本体部21の遊端部25から規制部22にかけて、曲率半径Rを有するR曲げが形成されている。規制部22の先端は、ブラシローラ1のブラシ部12内に侵入している。
5.作用効果
(1)この現像装置2によれば、図1に示すように、ブラシ部12は、非導電性の繊維が銅化合物にコーティングされることにより形成される導電性短繊維11からなり、その水分率が、5%以下に調整されている

そのため、高温高湿環境下においても、安定して画像形成することができる。
(2)この現像装置2によれば、優れた流動性を有する非磁性一成分系の重合トナーを使用しているので、ブラシローラ1に対するトナーの担持量を容易に調節することができる。
そのため、より安定して画像形成することができる。
また、この現像装置2によれば、正帯電性のトナーを使用している。そのため、トナーが導電性短繊維11の銅化合物に対して、より安定に正帯電する傾向がある。その結果、より安定して画像形成をすることができる。
(3)また、この現像装置2によれば、図2に示すように、ブラシ部12内に侵入した規制部22により、ブラシ部12に担持されたトナーの一部を確実に掻き落とすことができる。
その結果、ブラシ部12に担持されるトナーの量を均一化することができ、より一層安
定して画像形成することができる。

(4)また、この現像装置2によれば、ブレード9の規制部22を確実にブラシ部12に侵入させることができる。

(5)また、この現像装置2によれば、簡易な構成で、ブレード9に規制部22を形成することができる。
(6)また、この現像装置2によれば、ブラシローラ1の回転に伴うブラシ部12の移動により、R曲げが形成されている部分に、ブラシ部12内に侵入する方向の力を作用させることができる。
そのため、簡易な構成で、ブレード9の規制部22を、より確実にブラシ部12に侵入させることができる。
その結果、ブラシ部12に担持されたトナーの量を、より確実に均一化することができる。
以下、実施例を挙げて本発明の現像装置をさらに具体的に説明するが、本発明の現像装置は、これらの実施例に限定されるものではない。なお、実施例中、配合割合を示す部および%は質量基準によるものである。また、実施例中の配合割合などの数値は、上記の実施形態において記載される対応箇所の上限値または下限値に代替することができる。
1.ブラシローラの作製
(1)導電性短繊維の準備
表1に示す繊維の表面にダイジェナイトの薄膜を形成した導電性短繊維(商品名サンダーロン、日本蚕毛染色株式会社製)を準備した。

各導電性短繊維の線密度および繊維長を、表1に示す。
(2)植毛
アルミニウム製、直径1.8cm、軸方向長さ23cm、円柱形状の芯材の周面に、アクリル系導電性接着剤を厚さ100μmとなるように均一に塗布した。

芯材と導電性短繊維とを植毛室に投入し、芯材を高電圧発生器の接地極に回転可能に支持させるとともに、芯材の周面と35mm間隔を隔てて対向配置されると共に高電圧発生器の高圧極に接続されたアルミニウム板の表面に、導電性短繊維を設置した(芯材の周面と対向配置される部材がアルミニウム板であることが元の記載では不明瞭と判断しましたので文章を訂正しました。ご確認願います)。
回転速度6rad/sで芯材を回転させながら、接地極と高圧極との間に直流20kVを印加し、芯材に導電性短繊維を静電気植毛した。静電気植毛を1分間実施し、芯材の周面すべてが植毛されたブラシローラを作製した。
2.ブラシ部の水分率の測定

温度40℃、相対湿度10%において2時間乾燥させた後、ブラシローラの乾燥後質量Aを測定した。続いて、乾燥後のブラシローラを、温度32℃、相対湿度82%において12時間放置した後、ブラシローラの高温高湿後質量Bを測定した。結果を表1に示す。
また、表1に示すブラシローラの植毛密度E、導電性短繊維の線密度F、および、導電性短繊維の繊維長Gから、下記式(1)により導電性短繊維の総質量Cを計算した。
式(1):導電性短繊維の総質量C=22.3×植毛密度E×線密度F×繊維長G/9000
次いで、下記式(2)から水分率Dを算出した。
式(2):水分率D=100×(高温高湿後質量B―乾燥後質量A)/導電性短繊維の総質量C
結果を表1および図3に示す。
3.印刷試験
高温高湿環境A(HH、温度32℃、相対湿度80%)と、常温環境B(JJ、温度20℃、相対湿度30%)とのそれぞれにおいて、印刷面積率1%の印刷品質評価用パターンを印刷した。

感光体ドラム上の白地部分における付着トナーを粘着テープ(製品名「スコッチメンディングテープ810-3-18」、販売元:住友スリーエム株式会社)で写し取った後に普通紙(Xerox社 品番4200)に貼付し、反射濃度計(グレタグマクベス製スペ
クトロリノ)を用いて反射濃度を測定した。

Claims (7)
- 芯材、および、前記芯材の周面に繊維部材が植毛されることにより形成されるブラシ部を備え、前記ブラシ部が現像剤を担持するように構成されるブラシローラを備え、
前記繊維部材は、非導電性の繊維が銅化合物にコーティングされることにより形成され、
下記試験方法により測定される、前記ブラシ部の水分率が、5%以下であることを特徴とする、現像装置。
水分率の試験方法:
温度40℃、相対湿度10%において2時間乾燥させた後、ブラシローラの乾燥後質量Aを測定する。続いて、乾燥後のブラシローラを、温度32℃、相対湿度82%において12時間放置した後、ブラシローラの高温高湿後質量Bを測定する。そして、下記式(1)から水分率Dを算出する。

水分率D=100×(高温高湿後質量B―乾燥後質量A)/前記繊維部材の総質量C - 前記現像剤が、重合性単量体を重合させることにより調製されるケミカルトナーであることを特徴とする、請求項1に記載の現像装置。
- 前記現像剤が、正帯電性を有することを特徴とする、請求項1または2に記載の現像装置。
- 前記ブラシローラを回転可能となるように支持するケーシングと、
前記ブラシ部に担持される前記現像剤の一部を掻き落とすことにより、前記ブラシ部における前記現像剤の担持量を規制するように構成される現像剤担持量規制部材とを、さらに備え、
前記現像剤担持量規制部材は、
前記ケーシングに固定される第1部分、および、前記第1部分から前記ブラシローラ側に向かって延びる第2部分を有する本体部と、
前記第2部分から前記芯材側に向かって突出することにより、前記ブラシ部内に侵入するように構成される規制部とを備えていることを特徴とする、請求項1~3のいずれか一項に記載の現像装置。 - 前記規制部が侵入している部分における前記ブラシローラの回転方向と、前記本体部の前記第1部分から前記第2部分に向かう方向とが、反対方向となるように構成されていることを特徴とする、請求項4に記載の現像装置。
- 前記本体部と前記規制部とは、1枚の板状部材から一体的に形成され、
前記規制部は、前記第2部分から前記芯材に向かって屈曲するように形成されていることを特徴とする、請求項4または5に記載の現像装置。 - 前記現像剤担持量規制部材には、前記第2部分から前記規制部にかけて、R曲げが形成されていることを特徴とする、請求項6に記載の現像装置。
