Definitions
- the present invention relates to a touch panel system and an electronic information device including the touch panel system.

- an indicator for example, a user's finger or stylus, the same applies hereinafter
- a projected capacitive touch panel system capable of multi-touch operation (simultaneously detecting a plurality of indicators that are in contact with or close to the detection surface of the touch panel) has become a resistive touch panel system. Instead, it has become widely used.
- a plurality of upper electrodes provided so as to be parallel to each other along the detection surface and provided so as to be parallel to each other along the detection surface so as to intersect the upper electrode
- a touch panel provided with a lower electrode is used.
- the upper electrode is provided between the lower electrode and the detection surface, and the upper electrode and the lower electrode have a two-layer structure.
- Projected capacitive touch panel systems include self-capacitance and mutual capacitance.
- the self-capacitance method signals are obtained from the upper electrode and the lower electrode, and the change (increase) in the capacitance of the upper electrode and the lower electrode is detected.
- the position and the position of the indicator in the alignment direction of the lower electrode are separately detected.
- the mutual capacitance method drives one electrode (hereinafter, illustrated for the case of the lower electrode) and obtains a signal from the other electrode (hereinafter, illustrated for the case of the upper electrode)
- the position of the indicator in the detection surface is detected by detecting a change (decrease) in capacitance between the electrode and the lower electrode.
- the distance between the detection surface and the lower electrode is larger than the distance between the detection surface and the upper electrode. Therefore, in the self-capacitance type touch panel system, the change amount (increase amount) of the capacitance of the lower electrode when the indicator contacts or approaches the detection surface is changed by the change amount (increase amount) of the upper electrode capacitance. ) Smaller than Therefore, the detection accuracy of the position of the indicator based on the output signal of the lower electrode is lower than the detection accuracy of the position of the indicator based on the output signal of the upper electrode.

Therefore, a parasitic capacitance is formed between the indicator and the plurality of detection electrodes (the upper electrode and the lower electrode in the self-capacitance method, and the upper electrode in the mutual capacitance method), thereby the plurality of detection electrodes. A change in capacitance is detected from each output signal.

- the indicator exists at a position away from the center line of a certain detection electrode, not only the detection point and the detection electrode but also the periphery of the indicator and the detection electrode is detected. A parasitic capacitance is also formed between the electrodes for use. Therefore, the amount of change in capacitance at the position of the center of gravity is smaller than that in the above case.
