放射線撮像装置は例えばX線という放射線を扱うため、撮影対象である人体に対するX線の被曝量をできる限り少なくする必要がある。このため、X線を検出する撮像部は、X線に対する高い感度と高いS/N比が要求される。
しかしながら、アモルファスシリコンTFTと比べて抵抗値が低くなったとはいえども、感度を向上させる際に熱雑音が邪魔になるおそれがあり、高感度の撮像部を実現するのが困難であった。
上記シーケンサは、A/D変換器を動作させてデジタルデータを出力するに先立ち、光検出信号に対してローパスフィルタを有効に機能させた状態において、画素トランジスタをオン状態に制御させておき、受光素子と信号線を接続させるものである。
上記シーケンサは、光検出信号に対してローパスフィルタを有効に機能させた状態において、画素トランジスタをオン状態に制御させておき、所定時間が経過した後、画素トランジスタをオン状態に制御した状態を維持しつつサンプルホールド回路をホールド動作させ、A/D変換器を動作させてデジタルデータを出力した後に、画素トランジスタをオフ状態に制御するものである。
上記した以外の課題、構成及び効果は、以下の実施形態の説明により明らかにされる。
図1は、本開示の実施形態に関わる、放射線撮像装置のブロック図である。
X線管102から放射されるX線は、被写体103を透過して放射線撮像装置101の撮像部104に照射される。撮像部104は受光したX線に基づく微弱な電荷を発生する。
信号処理部105は撮像部104から発生する電荷に基づく画像データを生成する。
制御部106は信号処理部105から画像データを受けて、表示部107に表示すると共に、不揮発性ストレージ108に画像データを保存する。
また、制御部106は操作部109の操作を受けてX線管102のオン/オフ制御も遂行する。
なお、画像処理や不揮発性ストレージ108を用いた画像データを保存する処理を行う代わりに、信号処理部105が出力する画像データを表示部107で直接表示し、あるいは信号処理部105が出力する画像データをビデオレコーダ等で保存することも可能である。
本技術は、主に、撮像部104に接続される信号処理部105に関するものである。なお、制御部106の詳細な説明は割愛する。
図2A~2Cは、撮像部104の外観を示す分解斜視図と斜視図である。
図2Aは、撮像部104の分解斜視図である。撮像部104はセンサアレイ201と、センサアレイ201の撮像面を覆うシンチレータ202よりなる。
センサアレイ201は低温ポリシリコンTFTで構成され、フォトダイオードとスイッチングトランジスタが格子状に形成されている。
シンチレータ202はX線を可視光に変換する蛍光膜であり、アントラセンを含むプラスチックや、ヨウ化ナトリウム、ヨウ化セシウム、或はガドリニウムオキサイドサルファ(GOS)等の蛍光物質を塗布或は封入したシートが採用される。また、ヨウ化セシウムを用いる場合は、シートだけではなく、センサアレイ上に直接蒸着で形成する事も可能である。
図2Bは、撮像部104の斜視図である。撮像面にシンチレータ202が貼り付けられたセンサアレイ201には、その縦と横に信号処理部105の回路基板が接続される。センサアレイ201に含まれるフォトダイオードが出力する電荷は極めて微弱である。このため、配線長を極力短くするために信号処理部105はセンサアレイ201に直結する形態で構成される。
図2Cは、撮像部104のもう一つの実装形態を示す斜視図である。信号処理部105をアナログ回路部203とデジタル回路部204に分割する。そして、アナログ回路部203はCOG(Chip On Glass:ガラス基板等にLSIを直接搭載する、実装の手法)やCOF(Chip On Film:ポリイミド等のフィルム基板にLSIを直接搭載する、実装の手法)にて構成する。デジタル回路部204は通常の回路基板に実装する。
前述の通り、センサアレイ201は画素を構成する受光素子であるフォトダイオード301と画素トランジスタ302が網目状に形成されている。
画素トランジスタ302は例えばMOSFETであり、フォトダイオード301が光電変換した結果の出力電荷を信号線303に伝達する。
画素トランジスタ302のソースは列毎に共通の信号線303に接続され、更にその信号線303の先にはチャージアンプ304が接続されている。
画素トランジスタ302のゲートは行毎に共通の制御線305に接続される。ゲートセレクタ306は「行」に該当する複数の制御線305のうちの一本を高電位にすることで、該当する「行」の画素を選択する。
複数のサンプルホールド回路部307の出力電圧はマルチプレクサ308によって選択され、アンプ309に供給される。アンプ309の出力電圧はA/D変換器311に供給されて、デジタルデータに変換される。アンプ309は図4にて後述するCDS413の出力電圧を増幅する。
A/D変換器311が出力する、アンプ309の出力電圧に相当するデジタルデータはデジタル画像信号処理部312に供給される。デジタル画像信号処理部312は、例えばオフセット補正、ゲイン補正、欠陥画素補正、信号強度の対数変換、周波数処理、DR圧縮処理、階調処理、感度補正等のデータ処理を経て、デジタル画像データを出力する。このデジタル画像信号処理部312の詳細については割愛する。
X線はシンチレータ202によって緑色等の可視光に変換される。この可視光がフォトダイオード301に入射すると、光電変換によってフォトダイオード301から電荷が発生する。フォトダイオード301から発生した電荷は、画素トランジスタ302を介して第一オペアンプ401の反転入力端子に供給される。
第一オペアンプ401は反転入力端子と出力端子の間にコンデンサC402が接続されている。このため、第一オペアンプ401はチャージアンプ304を構成する。チャージアンプ304は入力される電荷をコンデンサC402に蓄積させ、電圧に変換する。なお、コンデンサC402の両端にはディスチャージのための第一スイッチ403が接続されており、シーケンサ313によって制御される。
なお、第一オペアンプ401の非反転入力端子には、画素トランジスタ302のリセットレベルを定め、チャージアンプ304等後段の増幅器に必要なオフセット電圧を与えるために、定電圧源404が接続されている。この定電圧源404の電圧は全ての信号線303に接続される全ての第一オペアンプ401に共通に与えられ、第一オペアンプ401のバーチャルショートによって全ての信号線303に等しい電圧が印加される。
第二オペアンプ408は反転入力端子と出力端子が直結されており、ボルテージフォロアを構成する。第二オペアンプ408は非反転入力端子の電圧を出力端子に出力する。第三スイッチ407がオフの状態では、コンデンサC409は電荷が保持されるので、オペアンプはサンプルホールド回路部307を構成する。更に、第三スイッチ407がオンの状態で且つ第二スイッチ406がオフの状態では、抵抗とコンデンサC409がパッシヴ型一次LPFを構成する。つまり、コンデンサC409はLPFの構成要素であると共に、サンプルホールド回路部307の構成要素でもある。
前述の通り、第三オペアンプ411も第二オペアンプ408と同様の機能を実現する。
図5A,5Bは、1フレーム期間内におけるゲートセレクタ306が出力する制御信号とX線管102が発するX線のタイムチャートと、1水平期間内におけるゲートセレクタ306が出力する制御信号とアナログ回路部203の動作状態のタイムチャートである。
次にゲートセレクタ306が画素トランジスタ302をオン制御した上で、シーケンサ313はサンプルホールド回路部307を制御して、画素トランジスタ302がオンの状態におけるチャージアンプ304の電位を、コンデンサC412及び第三オペアンプ411でサンプルホールドする。この時点で、CDS413は第二オペアンプ408の出力信号と第三オペアンプ411の出力信号との差分を出力する。
次にシーケンサ313はマルチプレクサ308とA/D変換器311を制御して、CDS413の出力信号を順次A/D変換する。
図6(a)~(d)は、比較例に係るシーケンサ313のタイムチャートと、ノイズ成分のグラフである。
(a)は、図4に示すGateの信号であり、画素トランジスタ302のゲートに印加する制御信号を示す。Gateが高電位の時、画素トランジスタ302はオン動作して、フォトダイオード301の電荷がチャージアンプ304に流れ込む。
(b)は、図4に示すSHSの信号であり、第四スイッチ410の制御信号を示す。SHSが高電位の時、コンデンサC412は抵抗R405又は第一オペアンプ401の出力端子に接続される。つまり、コンデンサC412と第三オペアンプ411にて構成されるサンプルホールド回路はサンプル動作になる。逆にSHSが低電位の時、サンプルホールド回路はホールド動作になる。
(c)は、図4に示すLPF_Eの信号であり、第二スイッチ406の制御信号を示す。LPF_Eが高電位の時、第二スイッチ406はオフ状態になり、抵抗R405の両端が短絡されなくなる。すると、抵抗R405とコンデンサC412とでLPFが形成される。なお、図4では、LPF_Eの論理否定信号で表記されている。つまり、第二スイッチ406はLPF_Eの論理否定信号によってオン・オフ制御される。
なお、特に図示はしていないが、図6に示すタイムチャートの期間中、第一スイッチ403と第三スイッチ407(SHR)は何れもオフ状態を維持している。
(d)は、第三オペアンプ411から出力される信号のうち、ノイズ成分を示すグラフである。
時刻t3からt4の間、SHSは高電位を維持しつつ、LPF_Eが高電位に転化する。LPF_Eが高電位の状態では、配線の熱雑音が低減される。
時刻t4からt5の間、LPF_Eは高電位を維持しつつ、SHSが低電位に転化する。SHSが低電位に転化すると、第四スイッチ410が開放され、コンデンサC412の両端電圧が第三オペアンプ411によって出力される。つまり、サンプルホールド回路のホールド動作になる。この期間において、最終的なチャージアンプ304の電位が第三オペアンプ411に出力され、アンプ309にて電圧増幅された後、A/D変換器311によってデジタルデータに変換される。
Gateがオンの期間、フォトダイオード301が出力する電荷は、コンデンサC402に蓄積される。つまり、フォトダイオード301の出力信号は微弱なDC成分であると考えることができる。一方、画素トランジスタ302の熱雑音はホワイトノイズであり、交流(AC成分)である。Gateがオンからオフに転化すると、その直前の電位がチャージアンプ304のコンデンサC402によって保持されるため、熱雑音の振幅によっては、図6Aの(d)にて波形W601及び波形W602に示すように、第三オペアンプ411の出力信号の電位が大きく変化してしまう。つまり、比較例に係る駆動方法では、画素トランジスタ302の熱雑音がそのままノイズ成分として出力されてしまう。
(e)は(a)と同様の、図4に示すGateの信号であり、画素トランジスタ302のゲートに印加する制御信号を示す。
(f)は(b)と同様の、図4に示すSHSの信号であり、第四スイッチ410の制御信号を示す。

時刻t8(時刻t4相当)からt9の間、LPF_Eは高電位を維持しつつ、SHSが低電位に転化する。この期間において、最終的なチャージアンプ304の電位が第三オペアンプ411に出力され、アンプ309にて電圧増幅された後、A/D変換器311によってデジタルデータに変換される。
図7Aは、Gateがオフされるタイミングを変化させることを示すタイムチャートである。
(a)は、図4に示すGateの信号であり、画素トランジスタ302のゲートに印加する制御信号を示す。
(b)は、図4に示すSHSの信号であり、第四スイッチ410の制御信号を示す。

図7Aに示すように、Gateがオフされるタイミングを、LPFがオンされると同時(時刻t701:0μsec)から、時刻t702、t703と徐々にずらして、最終的にLPFがオンされてから25μsecに至る迄(時刻t704)変化させて、第三アンプから出力されるノイズのレベルの変化を計測した。
図7Bを見て判るように、LPFがオンし始めてからGateをオフするタイミングが長ければ長いほど、LPFが効果的に作用することが判る。
図8(a)~(d)は、比較例に係るシーケンサ313のタイムチャートと、第一オペアンプ401の出力端子の電圧を示すグラフである。

時刻t12の時点で、(a)に示すようにGateは高電位から低電位に転化する。
MOSFETはその構造上、ゲートとドレイン、及びゲートとソースとの間にキャパシタを内包する。ゲートに所定の電圧を印加してドレインとソースが導通すると、ゲートとドレイン及びソースよりなる一つのキャパシタを構成することとなる。ゲートに印加していた所定の電圧を除去してドレインとソースが絶縁されると、一つのキャパシタはゲートとドレインよりなる第一のキャパシタと、ゲートとソースよりなる第二キャパシタの二つに分割されることとなる。
Gateがオフされると、画素トランジスタ302のゲート-ソース間の寄生容量が小さくなる。すると、ゲート-ソース間に蓄積されていた電荷の一部がコンデンサC402に移動する。これはサンプルホールド回路特有の現象であるチャージインジェクション(Charge Injection)である。結果として、チャージアンプ304の出力電圧が上昇する。通常、チャージインジェクションの影響を回避するために、画素トランジスタ302をオフしたら、所定時間だけ電圧が静定するまで待つ必要がある。これが図8中の時刻t12からt13の間である。

本開示においては、SHSをオフしてサンプルホールド回路部307を有効にする時点(時刻t14)において、Gateはオン状態のままである。したがって、画素トランジスタ302をオフすることによって生じるチャージインジェクションが生じにくい。このため、チャージインジェクション対策のために設けていた整定時間(時刻t12からt13の間)が不要になる。整定時間が不要になる、ということは、それだけ高速化が見込める、という利点に繋がる。
(1)本実施形態の撮像部104は間接変換型と呼ばれる、シンチレータ202を用いる形態のセンサを採用している。X線をシンチレータ202で緑色の光に変換し、画素のフォトダイオード301で光電変換して、電荷を読み出す。これに対し、直接変換型と呼ばれる、シンチレータ202の代わりにアモルファスセレン等の、X線を直接電荷に変換する膜が画素上に載っている構造のものを用いても良い。この場合、画素はフォトダイオード301の代わりにキャパシタンスのみの構造となる。

画素を構成する画素トランジスタ302をオフするタイミングを、サンプルホールド回路部307を有効にする時点より後迄延長する。またその際、画素トランジスタ302がオン状態になっている期間中に、LPFを有効に機能させる。画素トランジスタ302及び配線から生じる熱雑音がLPFで除去されるので、撮像部104及び信号処理部105の低ノイズ化を実現できる。このため、S/N比が向上し、放射線撮像装置101における撮影画像の画質の向上や低被曝化を実現できる。
また、比較例に係る駆動方法と比較して、撮像部104から信号処理部105における撮影画像の読み出し時間を短くすることが可能になる。その結果、比較例に係る駆動方法より高フレームレート化が実現できる。
例えば、上記した実施形態例は本開示をわかりやすく説明するために装置及びシステムの構成を詳細且つ具体的に説明したものであり、必ずしも説明した全ての構成を備えるものに限定されるものではない。また、ある実施例の構成の一部を他の実施例の構成に置き換えることは可能であり、更にはある実施例の構成に他の実施例の構成を加えることも可能である。また、各実施例の構成の一部について、他の構成の追加・削除・置換をすることも可能である。
また、上記の各構成、機能、処理部等は、それらの一部又は全部を、例えば集積回路で設計するなどによりハードウェアで実現してもよい。また、上記の各構成、機能等は、プロセッサがそれぞれの機能を実現するプログラムを解釈し、実行するためのソフトウェアで実現してもよい。各機能を実現するプログラム、テーブル、ファイル等の情報は、メモリや、ハードディスク、SSD(Solid State Drive)等の揮発性或は不揮発性のストレージ、または、ICカード、光ディスク等の記録媒体に保持することができる。

前記ローパスフィルタの出力信号をデジタルデータに変換するA/D変換器と、
前記ローパスフィルタと前記A/D変換器との間に接続され、前記ローパスフィルタとの間で前記コンデンサを共用するサンプルホールド回路と、
前記光検出信号に対して前記ローパスフィルタを有効に機能させた状態において、前記画素トランジスタをオン状態に制御させておき、所定時間が経過した後、前記画素トランジスタをオン状態に制御した状態を維持しつつ前記サンプルホールド回路をホールド動作させ、前記A/D変換器を動作させて前記デジタルデータを出力した後に、前記画素トランジスタをオフ状態に制御するシーケンサと
を備えた撮像装置。 - 光を受光して光検出信号に変換する受光素子に接続されて前記受光素子と信号線との接続を制御する画素トランジスタをオン状態に制御し、
前記光検出信号に対してローパスフィルタを作動させ、
所定時間が経過した後に、前記画素トランジスタをオン状態に制御した状態を維持しつつ、前記ローパスフィルタに接続されるサンプルホールド回路をホールド動作させる
